This place is absolutely wonderful! They have a very large selection of wines and liquors and also carry Devotion Vodka (which is my favorite).
They are also conveniently attached to whole foods and offer a much more reasonable price than alcohols sold in the grocery store. The owners and managers are very fun and friendly. When in the area, this store is certainly a go-to! -

I've been here a few times for a last miniute gift. You can get good advise, get it gift wrapped and be out of there quick. You pay retail but if close and quick with good with a good selection is your criteria then this fits the bill.
And now for a lttle extra review filler, (someone said my reviews were too short).
There is easy/good parking in the back, the staff is pretty knowledgeable on a wide variety of bottles, (you want really good tequila for a client gift, they can talk the talk), the girft wrapping is actually quite impressive for a small store and the place never seems to be crowded/busy so if your in a hurry you can get in and out pretty quickly.Listed in: Born to Shop

Wine dorks of the world unite and take over!
If you are like me, you appreciate a good dork-out session about wine. I typically get my fill during dinners with a certain group of my friends, but sometimes you just gotta hit the streets and start talking terroir and harvests and pairings.
This is the place to do it.
The two dewds here are super knowledgeable about their labels and wine, in general. The prices aren't too high considering it's located on Montana Ave.
They also sell liquor too. Don't git skeerd. You'll still be able to get that rot-gut stuff that reminds you of that ex from Louisiana with the limp.
Don't half step. Go here to get a bottle to pair with a nice dinner. -

They helped me find a good wine for a christmas present, which is bomb because I know NOTHING about wine.
They also shipped it for me, so that was equally cool. -

I came across this place on Yelp while searching for a small liquor shop that sells mini bottles of liquor in Santa Monica. (I needed 1 oz of whiskey for cooking, but I didn't want to buy a whole 750ml bottle)
I came into the cellar, not expecting much. They got a great selection of mini-bottle liquors, (even some of the high-end ones like Chopin vodka or Pravda vodka) as well as a decent selection of wine. The clerk was very helpful and knowledgeable. I ended up spending way more than I intended to (very typical of me): scored maker's mark whiskey, Chopin vodka, American honey-liqueur. All in mini bottles. And a Pravda vodka "tasting kit" which consists of a mini bottle and two cute miniature martini glasses-- the kit was on sale for 5 bucks.
I will go back here once I get enough cash to shell out on wine and may be write about their wine selection. -

I love this place. I visit at least 1-2 times a week. They are very, very knowledgeable and helpful with recommendations, have a very broad selection of wine, single malt scotch, and other spirits. They are always super friendly. And the prices are very reasonable, esp considering the Montana location. Their major domo, Mark, is a gem. Simply a great neighborhood business, a (sadly) dying breed.

I wish I were an alcoholic. Well, an elegant alcoholic. Not the dirty, poor kind. Or the kind that yells at people during family picnics. Maybe I'd just keep my alcoholism under wraps, but I'd go home and drink a couple bottles of wine or gourmet infused vodka nightly. No one would ever expect it because I show up to lunch in a Chanel suit and I recycle all of the bottles before I have weekly dinner parties.
But, I'm not. So, my chances to visit this liquor store are rather limited. I hate calling it a liquor store because it's a classy place. Liquor store sounds like the kind of place you overhear people trying to buy single cigarettes and lottery scratchers.
I wanted to make Banana Flambe tonight, so off I went to secure for me some Banana Liquor. The two gentlemen working were terribly friendly and helpful. Fireside Cellars was my third and final (thank god) stop. They had a giant selection of hard liquors and wine. Better yet, they had the biggest selection of those tiny bottles of booze I've ever seen. You could go, stock up, put them in a shoebox, and when you bring a date home, ask them if they'd care for something from the mini-bar. -

It's the only liquor store I know where I can find peach liqueur imported from France. That rates 5 stars in my book.

Los Angeles, CA
This place is a little pricey, expect to pay 5-10 bucks more per bottle on easy to find wines, however, the selection is good, especially top tier California reds. From the Alban Reva, Shaffer Hillside Select, Kosta Brown Pinots, Caymus Special Selection...ect, Fireside has them. Granted, these wines aren't incredibly hard to find if you are really looking but this place has them all under one roof. They also have a decent French selection. If you're a high roller or just looking for a great bottle to give as a gift or add to your collection it is worth checking out Fireside.

They're not discount like Wine Expo of Wine House (also good places) but for a great selection and helpful staff, this place is excellent.

This "liquor store" has the most knowledgeable, helpful, unsnotty, and completely boozarific guy behind the register. And now I have four bottles of vodka in my freezer.

I'm not sure if some people avoid this place because they think the selections are going to be overpriced just based on the location. If so, you're wrong. Does Fireside offer higher priced selections - oh god yes. However you'll find bottles there from about $10 and up. The staff make it feel like it's still a neighborhood place, and are happy to give their opinion or provide suggestions when asked. Fireside offers a good selection of liquors, and several that are more out of the ordinary.
