23 reviews for FINS Fish House and Raw Bar
Review Highlights
We chose FINS during our stay in Rehoboth Beach because of it's good reviews. We expected there to be a long wait no matter what time we went, so we just decided to go whenever we felt like it. We got there around 5:30 and waited no more than 40 minutes (being told there would be an hour wait). I have to admit, it was funny watching people walk outside acting totally shocked that the wait was "an hour and a half long!" My fiance was so tempted to tell them "if you want fast food, go to Wendy's" but I wouldn't let him.
The inside of the restaurant is a little dark but has a nice ambiance. It's rustic and comfortable, and the hostesses/waitstaff are really nice. I noticed when we first entered that the bar was almost empty save for a few folks eating dinner. I guess it wouldn't be such a bad idea for someone not wanting to wait to ask the hostess if they can eat at the bar if there's room.
FINS has quite a bit to choose from on their menu, and one of the biggest beer selections I've ever seen. I had the lobster roll and my fiance had the seafood broil, and we both split the crab dip as an appetizer. My lobster roll was good, but I don't have anything to compare it to as it was the first lobster roll I've ever tried. My fiance said his seafood broil was "good, but not $25 good". He'll probably get something else if we go back. The crab dip was in my opinion the best crab dip I've ever had. It's a generous portion and a definite crowd pleaser.
Our check was $57 pre-tip with two dinners, one appetizer, and one beer. A little more than we're used to spending on dinner but could have been a lot cheaper as there were much less expensive options on the menu. Overall, a very good meal to go with our wonderful vacation.
This place is packed on a weekend night. We waited at the bar for a good 45 minutes for a table. If you are familiar with Bonefish Grill, FINS is pretty much the same thing. The menu is very similar with the way the fish is cooked (stuffed etc) and the selection of sauces that go with the fish. I had the stuffed trout.. and really nothing to write home about. The fish was way too dry. We also shared an order of the clams casino. The bacon pieces were too big that you can't taste anything other than bacon.
On the bright side.. the kids mac and cheese-- is the bomb. To sum it up, the food is so so, but for sure one of the better places to have dinner in the Dewey/Rehoboth area.
A rainy weekend at Rehoboth Beach. The crowds were filling all those cool shops and restaurants. I did my usual homework and picked a couple restaurants to try. We settled on Fins Fish House & Raw Bar for a late lunch right on the main drag into Rehoboth Beach. This is an eclectic and quaint stop with old oyster packing tins displayed throughout. It has the casual ocean location, bar/grill atmosphere.
Serious beer selection of micro brew specials, bottled imports and draft beers. I mean SERIOUS-60 in total. You can make this a beer stop and go for the hops overdose without ever getting to the food.
Amazing high quality seafood selection. A whole chalk board listing oysters from many different regions. The have figured out every way possible to prepare and serve oysters. The fresh fish board displayed Salmon, Tuna, Red Snapper, Mahi Mahi, Swordfish, Rockfish, Grouper and Halibut.
We ordered a Bloody Mary, RJ Rockers NY brewed brown ale, salad, curry lobster bisque and the Rockfish (blackened) sandwich and MahiMahi (broiled)sandwich. This was the best piece of Rockfish I have ever tasted. Perfectly prepared massive moist piece of fish with just right amount of blackening season. Massive serving!!! The fish portion sizes are not to be believed for a lunch menu fish sandwich. I skipped the roll and went right for the fish. The sides, cole slaw and potato string fries were perfect and delicious.
Excellent server, very friendly staff. The meal with drinks was $50 for two. Impressive price/value. This is a top notch restaurant as you can see from other reviews. I will be back for dinner and probably a five star rating on the next visit.
This place is fabulous and well worth the wait. It's only open for dinner (bar opens at 4 and seating begins at 4:30). I waited about an hour for a party of two at 6 pm on a Thursday. It's maybe a 10 or 15 minute walk from the beach.
The selection of beers on tap and bottled microbrews and imports is vast. The bartender was willing to provide samples of those on tap, which really helped in making a decision. I settled on a pint of very hoppy IPA and nursed it for an hour while waiting.
These people know their oysters. We started with a sampler of six varieties of raw oysters harvested from along the east coast. The server explained a bit about the varieties and the condiments. All were fresh and tasted great.
My main course was the FINS cioppino over linguine. I've never tried this dish before... but wow. Lots of seafood (muscles, scallops, shrimp, fish, crab meat) in a tomato and white wine sauce. The portion was a good size too.
Even knowing that there will likely be a long wait, or maybe because of the expectation of a long wait with a pint or two of top notch brew, I plan to return for the excellent fresh and cooked seafood next time I'm near this beach.
We visited as a party of 4 this past Saturday night. We had to wait about 45 minutes for a table (we put our name on the list at 6:45 pm). I had expected this from what I had read on Yelp. Consider it is the middle of July an we were in a popular vacation town I don't think this wait time is unreasonable.
We did the sampler plate of oysters. We got six and we all agreed that they tasted great . Very fresh and not fishy at all. They were served with three sauces: tarter/horseradish, cocktail and vinegar.
Between the table we had the a chowder soup - it was a special and if memory serves me correct it had scallops in it (but it wasn't the tomato based soup on the menu) - , the crab dip and the house salad. All were great.
I loved the entree menu. Lots of great stuff to choose from. I had the lobster roll and I would go back to FINS again just to have it again. It was very good. My wife had the crab cake sandwich and enjoyed it. The other two we were with had fish from the specials menu and they were happy with their choices.
As you can gather from reading here this place is popular and busy but I would say that our server did a great job keeping up with it. He was attentive and our food was delivered on time.
I can't really think of a bad thing to say about this place. I'll go back again the next time we are in Rehobeth Beach.
I didn't review this place last time I went as I liked the place but was a little underwhelmed. On my last visit to Rehobeth, we went here a couple of times. The selection of draft and bottle beer is excellent -- and their prices are more than reasonable.
Great oysters and clams -- and the staff are more than happy to help you make a good choice -- and sample the goods if appropriate as well. We didn't eat here, but it seemed like a different place from last time looking at the food coming out of the kitchen. Everything looked excellent and folks around us seemed very pleased with their food. All of the staff were super friendly and genuine -- really a great neighborhood place that makes you wish it was your neighborhood.
Went here for dinner for our bachelorette weekend at Rehoboth Beach. Very friendly staff and good service. Our waitress Steph was the best - she was such a good sport as we played bachelorette dice games and scratch off cards.
My friends said the oysters were yummy, but the shucker didn't do a good job of excluding all the bits of shell. We split several apps (crab dip, seared ahi tuna) and one entree. Overall, the seafood there was pretty delicious. Our seafood pasta had nice sized scallops and shrimp.
Their martinis are also delicious. Try their lemon drop - but be warned that it tastes like lemonade...very dangerous. :)
No reservations accepted, so either come for early or late dinner (or be ready to wait 1-2 hours)!
Fresh fish all around the table - grouper, wahoo, Chilean sea bass, &; fried oysters. Everything was amazing. The center cut grouper with apple chutney took the cake. Fried oysters were incredibly tender.
Saturday night, the space is loud, but the service was great, good beers on tap, and the food was top notch
Had dinner at Fins, food was good, atmosphere was so-so. Great selection of wine and beer. I had the lobster and scallops dish - very good. The wait was about 15-20 minutes on a slow Tuesday night in September, there was plenty of room at the bar, so this was no problem.
For some crazy reason. on the coldest day DE has had in like 4 years, we said "hey, let's drive to the beach with the dogs!". After wandering a few outlet stores and playing with the dogs on the beach, we decided to go into Fins to thaw ourselves a bit. It was a good choice.
Their choice of beer is good...although I recommend asking for a sample of any draft beer you're not familiar with, because some of them are a bit funky.
Not being a big seafood fan, I had the fish and chips. The breading on the fish was thin and crispy...very good. The french fries were 'string' cut. Also very good.
My husband had a raw oyster sampler. They were all very good and fresh. There was one dipping sauce...a white balsamic with ginger and ???...that was amazing. I ended up dipping my french fries in it :)
This was my first visit to Rehoboth Beach, so I'm not familiar with any other restaurants there...but this place is definitely worth a stop if you're looking for somewhere to thaw out during a winter chill!
Walking into Fins, there is always some degree of disappointment because you have to brace yourself for the 30-45 minute wait. I tried to go here in October but there was a Jazz Festival that weekend and therefore a long wait. My family decided to get out of the house after the holiday cabin fever became too much to bear. As I walked into the restaurant, excitement set in since the place was not bursting with the usual amount of people. We were sat immediately this time.
I split a dozen of the Blue Point oysters with my Dad, which were delicious and lasted about 5 minutes after they landed on the table. I went with the crab cake sandwich as my entree. Again, delicious. I also got to sample the rest of the family's entrees as well. The seafood tortellini, grilled tuna and cod were also great at this place.
Next time, I'm going for an early dinner, especially during the summer. This place is definitely one of the best in Rehoboth.
Wow...
We went here based on the positive Yelp reviews, which turned out to be well-founded. We ate here two nights in a row (it was so good, we came back the second night!) The wait was fairly long both nights around 8:30, but shorter than they told us it would be (probably about 30-40 minutes each time in truth, though they told us an hour to an hour fifteen). The wait is a good thing (there's never a wait at the lousy restaurants!)
We had scallop salad (amazing!), the oyster sampler (superb!), the seared tuna (top notch!), and the crab dip (also great, probably not as good as the other three). They also had a sommelier who was very helpful. We had a brownie with ice cream for dessert, quite good, though not much different than any other restaurant's brownie-with-ice-cream.
Very cheap, it was about $50 for the two of us including wine! The service was top notch as well.
We will be back.
Without question the best quality meal we had during our trip to Reheboth.
The first night we tried to eat here there was no way we could get in - so we were waiting outside the door the next night at 6pm, or whatever time they opened for dinner. Honey was still mooching around the shops, I had Thing 1, Thing 2 and Soccerballgirl. It could have been very ugly. Three sets of crayons and coloring paper, one lemonade, one sprite and one chocolate milk accompanied by a dozen oysters and a fine glass of white wine later and all four of us are in our own little slice of heaven. Honey can shop for as long as she wants. And she did.
The meal was awesome, the place is fantastic. Rehoboth didn't have anything like this 20 years ago let me tell you.
Fins is consistent. Only occassional service lapses prevent this from being the best on the beach. Our waitress B__h was not up to Fins standards so everyone else had to help her out. I sure hope they share tips because we saw her only twice! Other than that everything was cool The last time we went, the waiter was really good so that makes up for it, we were at table 3 if you are wondering.
Also, Fins is getting to be the expensive too. The tab for 4 with salads, drinks and deserts will be $200 or very close. This is a little bit shocking, but no one made me order wine or desert I guess. Just be careful...
Still amazing. The best fried oysters I have ever had, and amazing salad.

I was looking for a place to eat in Rehoboth that had BOTH good beer and good food. I heard some… Read more »
Visited Fins Fish House and Raw Bar with daughter during our annual shopping excursion to Rehoboth Beach, DE. It was great. She'd been there before. First time for me. There was a wait--even though we waited until around 8:00 p.m. But, it was worth it. We weren't starving, so we opted for a salad, and an appetizer each. The appetizers to share. The salad was amazing. With lots of fresh greens, and dried cranberries. I liked the feta cheese too. Our appetizers were seared tuna (kind of sushi style) and fried oysters. Tuna was excellent. But I must say, the oysters may have been the best I've ever had. And, I've had lots oysters in my time. We liked the oysters so much we got a second helping. A "must-stop-and-try" if you are in the Rehoboth area.
I would suggest eating a late lunch or an early dinner at this place because it gets crowded. I am more in between of 3 and 4 stars. 3.5 would be my choice but you can't give half stars here...
We came here to try the RawBar. We were not diappointed. But we are not raw bar experts so the 6 diffrent oysters seem to be good. I ended up just ordering a sandwich. They do not hold back on the portions here. My chicken sandwich looked like a whole chicken!! It was that big! It just took a long time to come out and the waiter was no where to be found when we needed some ketchup. This place does have a friendly staff.
I went here after I yelped for good seafood places in the Rehoboth/Dewey Beach area. I was certainly not disappointed. We saw that several people were waiting outside and it was a good sign, but it was almost 9pm and we were hungry. However, it turns out we got a table for two right away =) We got a sampler of the raw oysters for appetizer and I had the 1.5lb Lobster while my boyfriend got the steak and cake. Both of these came with a choice of two sides and we got mashed potatoes and wild rice, and mashed potatoes and fresh green beans (the veggie of the day), respectively.
Oysters were amaaazingly good. It came with three dipping sauces: a clear vinegrette, a red vinegrette, and cocktail sauce w/ horse-radish. I've never put vinegar on my oysters before and so I was wary about the whole idea. But they proved me wrong and i was pleasantly surprised at how the whole combination of sauces actually turned out to be. Yumminess melting in my mouth.
My lobster looked beautiful and tasted just as beautiful -- juicy, tender goodness. As for the steak and cake... the crab cake was perfect, but my boyfriend complained that the steak was too chewy. Sorry to be one of the firsts to deduct a star! The wild rice was a bit undercooked and although the mashed potatoes were pretty good, they were chunky and we like it creamy -- just a personal thing though. Anyway, I like how you can wait at the bar if you have to, it looks fun.
Oh and I would've liked there to be crab on the menu too. Slightly disappointed about that...
Just as you folks advised, this place is spot on. For starters, it is very good. Nothing fancy or wildly conceived, just fresh and high quality.
I had an excellent grilled halibut... perfectly cooked and extremely tasty. My wife started with the local oysters(which she said were as good as anywhere we have traveled) then had a special rockfish entree.
Friendly service, a lively scene and the biggest crowds of anywhere in Rehoboth Beach during an off season October mid-week evening.
A great spot right in the middle of town.
Went in here randomly on a weekend when we were looking for a restaurant that was open between lunch and dinner on Sunday. SCORE. I knew I was in for a treat as soon as I walked in the door and saw their oyster display -- it was like an oyster fish mart with so many different kinds. Plus, they had a separate oyster menu with fantastic descriptions, if I remember correctly.
We ate large, tender steamed clams cooked so perfectly that it was almost sinful...and the fish was super moist and flavorful, flaking apart so easily. If I'm ever back in the area, I definitely have to come back here. The prices are great and I'd say it's better quality for the price than anyplace I've been to in the greater DC area too.
Jamie the bartender is the best! I was only there for drinks and oysters so I can't speak to the food but I will note that this place was PACKED in September and with a lot of locals. When we asked around about the food we were told very solemnly and seriously that the food is the BEST seafood for the best price in Rehoboth. The drinks we had were great, the oysters were great, the atmosphere was fun and relaxed and lively, the service was excellent - what more could you want? Give the bartenders a good tip and they'll ring a bell to announce it.
This is the best seafood restaurant at the beach. Staff is laid back, extremely friendly and attentive. Great raw bar--awesome oysters. Has the freshest fish. Somewhat lacking in other entres, although there is enough to choose from for non-fish eaters. However, if no one in the group is eating fish, we usually sit at the bar for oysters, and then head elsewhere. Can be a bit too family friendly from the hours of 5-6:30, so we usually go a little bit later.
This is a brilliant yet moderately-priced seafood restaurant that's lively without being over the top in noise or discomfort. We were seated upstairs and immediately went for the steamer assortment, which delivered superb local oysters, mildly spiced shrimp, supremely fresh mussels and Manila (small) clams. The oysters and mussels were heavenly; the shrimp delicious and fresh (perhaps a bit more Old Bay, but still superior;) and the clams: well, perhaps a bit overcooked. But the overall effect was magical, and the freshness unquestionable. Second courses in our group included Oyster Stew loaded with tasty oysters and loads of celery in a cream base; and Fried oysters that were greaseless, fresh and tasty, and came with excellent cole slaw. I can't remember much else, except that they had a super-bitter beer from Victory Brewing in PA that was basically an IPA with a kick and a half. We never even got to the fresh fish specials, prepared the way you like. No pretense, no complication; just great beach eating and fresh fresh seafood - - what more could you really ask for in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware?
