    THE BESTEST OF THE BEST!
    Great ambiance.
    Great wine.
    Great food:

    What to do?
    1. get one entree and lots ot tapas.
    2. drink wine
    3. get hungry again and order another entree.
    4. order some more tapas
    5.  order dessert!

CHORIZO is a must.  So are the scallops with risotto.  CRAB CAKE is actually crab! (who woulda thought??)

I highly recommend the place for parties and also to chill.  If you're a Queens person, no need to trek out to the city -- Fino is where its at!!

Fino has become a regular spot for me.  They have a great wine selection and the bartenders know how to make a mean dirty martini.  I like that they offer tapas which are good when drinking.  And all of the tapas I have tried have been delicious.

It's a nice atmosphere and I love the block table in the front.  The staff is knowledgeable and friendly.  I go all the time with friends and often suggest it for a first date spot.

I highly recommend Fino if you are in the Bayside area!

I really like this restaurant located in the heart of the Bell Blvd. shopping  and dining district. The service is excellent and attentive. The cocktails, although priced for NYC,  are generous and the Tapas style menu is creative, sophisticated
    and delicious.

We got there at 7:30 and it was fairly empty. By the time we left at 9: 30 or so, the place was hopping. The owner (always there) and the staff have an efficient way of handling a crowded place, making it feel like it isn't packed in the first place.

    Try this place.

One criticism, and I hope the owner is reading this.
A classy elegant place like this should have cloth napkins.
The use of one thin paper napkin is what I expect at a diner, and it detracts from the message the restaurant is trying to convey.
It would have gotten 5 stars but for that.

I love this place for grabbing a good dinner during the week.  I haven' tried anything on the menu that I didn't like.  To make it even better their sangria is AWESOME!  The crispy calamari is some of the best I've ever had.  They fry it in rice flour so it has a much lighter feeling.  The scallops are also really delicious.  If your more of a meat eater the state tartar is nice and spicy, but it doesn't make you beg for more water.  Another favorite of mine are the braised pork ribs.  They fall off the bone from being cooked at such a low temperature for many hours and the sauce is perfect on the palate.

Stopped in here before dinner at Avli for a few glasses of wine. Very good selection of wines from all over the world.
The ambiance is dark and quiet and romantic. They have a private room in the back for parties which can accommodate 12 people. I have not yet eaten here but plan on writing another review once I do!

Friday nights are usually date night for us - our way of kicking off the weekend by ourselves in preparation for the usual flurry of activities planned for the weekend which we sometimes have to spend apart.  Date night usually consists of a nice sit down dinner at a restaurant we've never tried perhaps followed by a movie.

We decided to give Fino a try.  I've met the owner before & sampled their menu from previous events & I must admit - definitely intrigued.

The decor was nice; looks like they spent some time and money designing - something comparable to what you would find in the city.  I mean how many restaurants in Queens have a visible wine vault in their restaurant instead of a basement full of dusty liqour crates?

No listing on Open Table for reservations but we didn't think it was going to be that bad.  FAIL!!! If you're going on the weekend, you should defintely make reservations.  Parking is usually tough but we got lucky.  They have valet but unless you're dining at Uncle Jack's down the street, when do restaurants in Queens have valet parking?  It provides jobs for others so I'm not complaining, just found it a little odd.  We walked in & the hostess asked us if we had made reservations.  It was visibly busy but we said no so she asked us if we wouldn't mind waiting at the bar for a pre-dinner drink.

    'How long's the wait?'

'Oh no more than 10 - 15 minutes.'

'That's not bad, we'll grab a drink at the bar.'

Decent start, friendly hostess, nice decor, & pre-dinner gander at the menu seemed like something we'd really enjoy.  3 tables sat empty with a 'Reserved' sign sitting on them.  I'm all for reservations but if a table sits empty for 15 minutes+, it's time to give it up for patrons who are waiting.  If you can't get to your reservation on time, then you either deserve to lose them or most likely are not showing up & didn't bother to call - nothing new in the restaurant biz folks.

Bartender was attentive & delivered nice & tidy;  +1 Point. The drink menu - although interesting + a tad unique from all the other places on the Bell Bld strip, was a bit pricey ranging from $12 - $16 per, definitely tasty but they really didn't warrant that price ..
    15 minutes, 30 minutes ..

'How are we looking on our table miss?'

'Oh sorry, it will only be a few more minutes.'

'No problem - thank you'.  45 minutes ...

'You're table will be ready in just 2 minutes'.

50 minutes, 1 hour ... Meanwhile there were 4 tables that opened up 10 minutes ago, were cleaned, but not yet set - not sure what the hold up was but I threw a look over to the hostess & she seemed to acknowledge with an apologetic look.

    'Sir, you're table is ready.'

The fact that she did it with a smile & with no attitude was a nice touch.  She redeemed herself nicely.  By this time we were famished - we sat down & looked around.  2 waiters were standing around yet we still hadn't received our menus.  Another table was seated 5 minutes after us and they received their menus immediately.  WOW! Not only was I hungry but my blood was starting to boil.  What kind of service seats you and then makes you wait 15 minutes for your menus?  Our waitress comes over w/ a smile and asks - have you received your menus yet?  I looked back at our empty table and w/ an obvious fluster said 'Uhm, no?'

Wife jumps in before I could become so sarcastic that we ended up with the 'special sauce' in our food.  'No, we haven't received menus yet but we know what we would like to order.

Another waiter comes & asks - 'Have you received your menus yet'? What?

Menu looked great: Categories of $13, $8, & $6 tapas, cheese & cured meat platters, entrees, & desserts; all priced fairly reasonably.  Okay if the food is good, this place will have redeemed itself.

We ordered 3 starters: (no parsley/cilantro please)
    - Sauteed shrimp w/ chili flake: It was okay but throw a ton of garlic, EVOO, & a stick of butter on anything and it'll taste good & no chili flakes whatsoever  (fail)
    - Cheese Polenta: Full of flavor but they killed it by adding what tasted like a handful of salt & stick of butter.  We asked for bread to balance it out and they looked at us like we had 5 heads, no mention of fixing the issue.
    - Wild Mushroom Crostada w/ goat cheese: not bad but a little boring with too much salt again.

Wife ordered a grilled calamari spaghetti and I opted for the seafood paella.  The waitress actually called it PAH-EL-Uh.  What would Gordon Ramsay or Robert Irvine say? We got 2 of our starters  15 minutes inbetween & then our entrees before our 3rd. Uhm, what?

Entrees were pretty good - small portions.

The owner was really attentive & very friendly, always asking us if we were okay.  All in all, 2 stars: service, 3 for food, & the owner gets 3.5 since she seemed quite hands on. Overheard a waiter tell a table that the new chef worked for Bobby Flay & was on Iron Chef.  Really? A little disappointing!

I'm usually not too enthusiastic of the restaurants on Bell, but Fino was surprisingly great. I went with my wife and a couple of her friends on a Tuesday night for her birthday.

I loved the scallops with risotto. Scallops was a wee bit salty but the dish was perfectly cooked. We also had the crabcake. Lots of fresh crab meat. Loved it. The grilled octopus was great. I wanted more pieces in the dish, but it is a tapas place. I had the seafood paella as my entree. The menu says its for 2, but I selfishly ate most of it myself. Surpisingly it had more seafood than I thought it would have.

The sangria is good, not weakened by too much juice. They add brandy to their sangria. A pitcher of the sangria is $15 during M-T 4:30-8PM.

Fino is kind of out of place for Bell with a higher end and modern chic feel to it. I'm not sure if the area is ready for it, but I wish them luck on being a pioneer.

So.....I'm always hesitant to try places on Bell for food, because the majority are not that good. Even though Fino got great reviews on Yelp & I live 5 mins away, it took a recommendation from a friend to convince us to try it!

We were NOT disappointed!!!! I can't believe this amazing place has been there all along! The waiter (Peter) was awesome; very knowledgable about the food and wine & recommended a wine that paired well with seafood as well as chorizo.

We decided to just have tapas & a bottle of wine. Loved every single dish that we tried. The scallops & risotto; crab cake; grilled octopus with potatoes; chorizo; calamari; mushrooms on french pastry; side of potatoes!!!!!

We usually go to Casa Mono for tapas, but now that we know Fino is so wonderful and convenient (5 mins away).... we'll definitely return.

Prices are a bit cheaper than Casa Mono and menu is slightly smaller, but delicious. Oh, we also went a little earlier than the dinner rush and even the waiter said it was a good time (since he was able to take his time & explain the different wines & menu).

Went there last night for girls night. There were 5 of us. The sangrias were awesome, tapas portions left a little to be desired. We pretty much ordered one of everything and I have got to say the staff didn't warn us about the portion sizes. Their carmelized bruschetta was amazing, octopus leaves a burnt taste in your mouth, and I was looking for the grilled quail cause it was so tiny. For the entrees their ribs were delicious. I had the paella which was yummy b/c it didn't taste of seafood and their steaks are burnt and blackened. I will go back just for their sangrias and tapas as well as the ambiance...will prob bring my husnband this time because he doesn't eat much.

It has been over a month since I had the crispy potato at Fino and I still crave for it. It's worth the trip from Penn station. I'll definitely go back and have a bottle of Champagne with it.
Their wine list is so resonable and well written!

Pretty good food, nice atmosphere, fast service.

We had a ladies' (mama's) night out here-- and for not having to go all the way to Manhattan, this place had that modern, dark ambiance to it, which we were looking for. The sangria was alright.  Caramelized Onion Bruschetta was sweet and tasty.   The scallops with risotto was done right. Overall, no tapas dish was bad, so i give it a solid 4 stars!

    AMAZING!

So basically: the yelpers were right, this restaurant is a must-go. I loved the following (from great to not so great) : butternut squash risotto(super amazingly good), cheese assortments (option 1, 3,4; I love sheep milk cheese), SANGRIA ( M-Th $15 for a pitcher of sangria. It'll be the best you've had), Crabcake (real lump crab meat = delicious), Paella ( juicy and filling, dish for two), and the charamelized onion bruschetta (OKAY but i don't really recommend).

Only thing I didn't like was the beef tartare, because I feel like it masked the real flavors of raw beef, but what was worse was how the waiter responded to our unsatisfaction. He said that people who don't really like raw food wouldn't like a dish like this (I told him I eat lots of raw foods and have had raw beef on numerous occasions) and then said "well it's actually our best dish, people love it!". I know he was wasn't trying to be rude (and the service was superb up until this last comment) but if a customer doesn't like something, don't justify it.

All in all, I had a GREAT experience there and will definitely go back (and the prices werent bad either!). I have 4 stars cause it was perfect until the waiter said those things. He was a great waiter though, just slipped.

Burnt steak. I don't know how they did it, but the center of the steak was still rare, while the outside of the steak was completely burnt. They sliced it for us, and with the dark lighting, we did not see that it was all burnt. The entire piece of steak tasted like charcoal. It was disgusting. If I was just rating it for the steak, I'd give it one star - zero if I could.

Luckily, their scallops with risotto was cooked to perfection, and was delicious. Their cheese platter was okay.

The boyfriend and I frequent Fino probably once a month or so-when we want to go on a date locally.

    Food:
For the most part, the concept is better than the execution. For instance, yes the paella is not great, as others have noted. The rice always seems underdone and there seems to be a bit too much liquid. I think if it sat a good 5minutes longer on the stove it would be delicious.

They also change their menu up. For me, I am fine when restaurants do this, as long as they keep the remarkable foods on the list. But we've seen several items on the menu that have gone and are sorely missed. Take, for instance, the lamb over polenta tapas dish. It made me a lamb believaaa. It was perfectly cooked, seasoned, portioned-it was truly why we came back. That was gone. They also had this wonderful fig/prosciutto tapas concoction that had so much flavor, even in its simplicity. That's gone, too.

They obviously kept some staples-crispy calimari, bruschetta with mushrooms and truffle oil (it's bananas)--all tasty.

    Service:
Pretty good. Clearly there are some servers much much better than others.

I would recommend though. Though a bit on the pricey side, at the end the whole experience delivers.

Very cute place to go with friends or a date - has great wine and tapas.

For 2 people, we got for appetizers
    1) GRILLED OCTOPUS  roasted tomatoes, croutons, olive oil (this was ok)
    2) CARAMELIZED ONION BRUSCHETTA  fresh mozzarella, balsamic vinegar, rosemary (this is not your typical bruschetta with tomatoes, basil on top of it but it was great. i liked it a lot)
    3)  SWEET PEA RISOTTO parmesan chesse, chives (I really like this - it tasted great! it has a very homey taste to it. I loved it and would want to learn to make this for the family :))

For entree my friend got the CRISPY STRIPED BASS asparagus, roasted tomatoes, black olives, lemon zest (the piece of bass was pretty big)

and i got the GRILLED SKIRT STEAK crispy fried potatoes, herb butter, horseradish crème (it came in a hot plate with 2 layers of skirt steak)

the entree's portion was just right :)

I liked the ambience. Like I mentioned, great for a date as it is a little on the darker side. They also have rooms in the back if you want to have a birthday party or something, you can have the rooms, i think i saw around 2-3 rooms.

Surprisingly I enjoyed this place and its tapas. Sheep cheese is good stuff. So is the soft cows cheese they have for choices on the cheese plate sampler. The truffle oiled mushroom bruschetta was great (but so is everything that has truffle oil on it). Got really stuffed on 4 tapas selections and a shared entree.

The red and black atmosphere is very lounge appropriate. People don't really dress nicely to come here so don't expect the whole Manhattan dressed to the nines scene. Its just a decent place to enjoy "finer" foods and potent but tasty drinks.

Bottom note: Might go back for Tapas.

    Price: Average.

Service: Terrible. I was there on a slow night, but I still had to wait at least 5 minutes to get my waiter's attention every time I needed something.

Wine: For a wine bar, it has a very limited selection for wine per glass or per half bottle. Not sure of the full bottle selection bc we didn't want the full bottle.

Cocktails: They were strong and delicious :)

Tapas: It was AMAZING. If I ever go back it'll be b/c of their tapas!!

Mood/Atmosphere: quiet, calm, chic, and bit romantic.

F is for the Freakin amazing dishes we had.  Wild mushroom risotto blew my mind.  Short ribs with spinach and gruyere cheese was about to make me climb over the table and push my gf down if she kept stealing more of our dish.  We also had the grilled calamari, which were good, but have definitely had better.

I is for the Inviting and super-fancy yet modern and not stuffy decor.  It'll feel like you're in the city, but then you'll step outside outside to find pizzeria uno across the street, the tanning salon on the corner and remember that you're in guidoland.

N is for the super Nice, friendly and helpful staff.  The waiter was spot on with his recommendations and descriptions.

O is for a bit Overpriced considering it's in far Queens.  Looks like you're in the city, feels (to your wallet) like you're in the city, but you're not.  It's like you got incepted into thinking you were.

I've been dying to try this place out since i noticed it. I was first introduced to Tapas the summer of 07 while traveling through Barcelona. I loved the idea of overpriced small portions with sangria or wine. It's just so... pretentious!

I've been trying to find a decent tapas place since I've been back and for Queens, this is pretty good! Portions are small but not too small, their sangria is good and the selection of wine is extensive so if you don't see anything you like, maybe you're a little TOO pretentious!

The dishes are hit or miss. I didn't like the octopus with potatoes, but everything else is pretty decent. I do have a problem with their timing. The orders came out in 10-15 min intervals so there were times where there were empty plates sitting around waiting for more food to come out.

GUYS: I would advise you research the place ahead of time before you bring a date here. It would suck if you assumed it was good and didn't know what to order or ordered a few dishes that sucked.

This place really deserves 3 stars but I give it four stars because I'm pretentious and so is Tapas

Have many great meals at this Tapas restaurant. My wife loves the red sangria. Some of our favorite dishes are the cheese course, cured meat, grill octopus, sea scallop, steamed mussels, calamari, risotto. What keep us coming back is the Paella. So continuing my reviews of local attractions I had to try Fino. I would have to say that most of the other reviews sum up my feelings about this place. The digs are very nice, kind of an upscale lounge vibe which is desperately needed in Bayside. Contrary to some other reviews I found the staff to be very professional and friendly. I'd give it 5 stars but the food wasn't really over the top. The balsamic sauce on the quail dish sort of overwhelmed the bird I thought. We both enjoyed the fried artichokes, they are very lightly battered and fried so don't be put off by the description on the menu. The gnocchi was a bit soggy and I wasn't crazy about the beef that went along with the dish. We did like the tomato bread prosciutto combo. I'll definitely be back to try some of the other items.

Definitely recommended, especially if you don't feel like schlepping to Manhattan for an upscale meal.

wow.  Tapas on Bell.  This I had to see.

Saw Fino just opened a week ago and decided to give it the once over before bringing a date there.

Had the chorizo / pepper / heavenly sauce for $9, and the bruschetta (with caramelized onions and melted cheese on top ... DELICIOUS) for $6.  Obviously, its tapas, so I would plan on ordering at least 3 if you are hungry... Blackberry / champagne mix for $11 (most drinks are $8-12), which was excellent.  The menu had several choices that looked enticing, but only 2 options for desert, flan and... something else I cant remember.

The atmosphere?  black & red dominating the color scheme, with lots of candle light.  Music was a soft jazz, a far cry from pop you would hear on the rest of Bell.  Vaulted ceilings too.  There were only 2 other groups when I arrived at 6, and they close at 1230 on weekends, so those of you that follow the "there arent any people here, it must suck" mantra will miss out.  I definitely wondered if it was open yet when I walked by.

One word of caution- the bartender mentioned that the owner did not have any previous restaurant experience (working or running)... so It will be interesting to see what happens with the service if this place gets hopping.

For now, its wonderful.  plan on $30 per person plus tip, not counting drinks @10 a pop.  Sure for this cost you can go into the city, but its too damn cold out now to hop on the LIRR or subway.  This place belongs in the city anyway.

Totally love this place! Its a great spot to go and catch up with friends.. get a little bite to eat (emphasis on the word little.. but to be fair it is tapas style) Every kind of risotto I've tried I've loved.. the staff is great, all of them are willing to give opinions and help you pare wine with what you order! They don't rush you out at all, you can stay and chill basically all night. Its a great local spot, i wish more places had the ambience and attitude this place has!

Ambience-wise, this place is great. Feels like you're dining out in Manhattan yet here you are in Bayside, Queens. There is a vast wine selection menu and then a tapas menu. Food-wise, was not overly impressed especially given the prices charged. Friend and I ordered the three cheese plate ($15, came with slim slices), the sweet corn with lobster and chives soup ($8), garlic shrimp ($8), and grilled asparagus ($7).

The cheese wasn't bad, the soft milky one was my fave. I thought that for $15 and just small slices it was way overpriced though. The soup was AMAZING. I would totally come back for the sweet corn lobster soup. It was creamy and there were chunky fresh lobster pieces. So yummy. The garlic shrimp was ok, but again too much for the cost. The asparagus was eh, the balsamic dressing they drizzled over it was way too much. And we ordered a half bottle of wine for $26.

So all in all, we spent $50 each for dinner (incl. tax and tip). For Bayside, I feel like that's wayyyy too much. I could've spent that much in the city and have better quality food! Service was fine though. And they have drink specials, but it's like AFTER 11 pm. So yeah. Not a bad place to go if you don't wanna trek out to the city. Great for a date, and to pick up girls (a lot of girls having wine at the bar). But food-wise, except for the soup, wasn't wowed.

This is one of the greatest Tapas restaurant outside the NYC. Bayside is a great spot of escape during the weekend for people live in NYC. And Fino completes the adventure for those NYC visitors. Nicely priced dishes with excellent drinks. Clean and modern environment is also great for dates or friends get together. For the tapas, Sautee shrimp is a must try! Rich butter garlic/chive sauté with fresh shrimp is so irresistible.  The Grill pork tenderloin w/ bake potato chunk & smothered onion over the dried cherry/sauce is very delicious and filling. Every bite from the first to last gives you a consistant sensation. Not too salty nor too oily. Very well balanced seasoning! The dark chocolate creambrulee adds a great finish note to the whole meal. The only draw back is the waiter for our table. He is not helpful at all for suggesting what's special, what's the signature and people's favorits...I can just say they need more training on their customer service. Other than that this is the place I definitely will come back again with friends.
BTW, they do have 3 course pre-fix menu for $20 Sunday to Thursday before 7pm. And Happy Hour of 50% off on certain drink from 5pm to 8pm.

    First review!

Fino is one of the few spots in Queens that's actually nice! Compared to other places around Bell blvd. This place is definitely more classy. It's got good decor, atmosphere and the music is light and relaxing.

I have to say the tapas dishes are pretty good. I would come back for the food. The caramelized onion bruschetta was really good!

The drinks are strong! The mojito was a little sweeter than I would have liked but strong as hell! try the sangria its awesome!

Overall- This place is great especially because it's in QUEENS! There are VERY few nice places in this part of Queens. On a quiet night skip the rowdy bars in the area and come here. 5 STARS for being the best in the area.

I'm impressed!  Superb wine selection and good recommendations.  I like the prix fixe specials so there's enough food.  Tapas is perfect if not too hungry...octopus is a favorite....scallops good but very rich.  Good choice for couples looking for a sophisticated spot in Bayside.

Stopped in after dinner for drinks. Nice wine selection. One of the waiters stayed with us chatting ( a little too long!) before discovering a female only table. They needed the attention and so did he!

Will come back and review the food.

Very nice looking place. Good first date dinner.

What a  refreshing new spot on Bell Blvd. I can honestly say, that aside from Press 195, this is my second favorite restaurant in Bayside. Wonderful decor, I felt like I was in the city, without dealing with all the traffic and parking. Service was excellent, wonderful food. My first tapas experience.. The owner( I assuming) greeted us, and asked how dinner was, we got  dessert on the house.:)  Oh, I ordered scallops and shrimp- DELISH! And the sangrias are aweeesooome!! Great first  date spot, very romantic, and cool to hang with your friends too! Love it here! Thanks Finos!!! See you soon!!!

Grew up in the city, now living in Bayside. Been waiting for a "city" (quality, style, culture) joint to come to Bell Blvd. I think there are 3 such places now (Fino, Press 195, and Martha's). Decor is excellent. A kind of place you come to at 8 and stay until midnight. Excellent place for dates, close group of friends, or hanging out at the bar. As for food, you have uncommon dishes like quail, liver, and truffle, but you can also find comfort food like steak, empanadas, and my favorite, crispy artichoke hearts. Supurb wine selection, well-adjusted music, motivated service. Been here twice now, brought friends each time. Planning on making Fino a regular go-to. I hope it's here to stay. Taste and see for yourself.

Very nice inside. They have a great list of wines to choose from. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Most importantly the food was delicious. Great spot for a date. No place like it in Bayside.

A welcome addition to the Bell Blvd scene in Bayside.  Just tried this place last night with my honey.  It was great.  The decor is very lounge-like, with Spanish music playing the background.  Definitely a Manhattan-type atmosphere.  I did not overly scrutinize the wine list, but the list looked decent and provided several options for half bottles and by the glass.  The food, more importantly, was very good.  We tried the shrimp empanadas, mussels w/chorizo, crispy artichokes and grilled octopus.  Loved them all but the empanadas were my favorite.  Then we ended the evening with a delicious pot de creme (i.e., chocolate mousse).  The service was very attentive (understandable because it's still quite new, and the place wasn't packed), and hopefully that level of service will continue as the restaurant generates more business.  Overall, a great start, and definitely worth a visit!
