I can't add much that hasn't already been said, but want to give another shout-out to this awesome little gem in the super-sketchy Quincy 'hood.

I've been going here for about eight years, and though I don't go nearly enough, have found immense benefit whenever I can make it.  Bring a loofah, steam up, slough off, and you will be TRANSFORMED by the end of your hour.

Jennilee's recommendations below were spot on, but I'll recap for extra emphasis:
-Bring water
-Fill up your bucket with ice cold water, dip in the provided facecloth, and put it on your head/neck/face for added awesomeness
-Take a COLD shower every 10 or 15 minutes
-Bring a loofah or buy one there-- you absolutely MUST do this to get the full-on sauna benefit

There really is no place like the Finland Steam Baths to relax and rejuvenate.  Also, the owners are so nice (and they positively glow from frequent sauna baths!).

(P.S. You can rent this place out for parties... I'd totally do this if I could round up enough friends down enough to do it.)

I love this place but unfortunately I think I am going to out priced here, their prices went up a lot of over the last few years and it cost me $25 last time.. I wish he had coupons on maybe some shorter steam times so I could go, but it'll be opening soon so I guess we'll seen the prices soon...

great place... Immaculate!!!!

Went here with my friend, had an awesome time! It was my first steam bath so the whole thing was new to me! I actually went the last weekend before they closed for the season but I'm hoping to return! Everything was exceptionally clean and it had a very calming atmosphere inside, despite the neighborhood it is located in.

This place is a great deal for your money!

SERIOUSLY NOW - I never expected this to be a perfect heaven.
It was so relaxing - especially because it is sooooo clean. My straight laced friend hemmed and hawed about going - then the week after asked to go again. Very private as well - they can clean the room after you leave via a side door so you are not rushed in the changing room. Smells good too like mint. 25$ for more than one person not 30 as advertised. Also I have never had a wait and the seven 11 next door is great too? really a delight please go if you are interested. Strangers have commented on how good my skin looked - jeez a little steam goes a long way.

The best steam bath experience you'll get in the Boston metro area.

If the idea of sharing a misty room with hairy Finnish strangers intimidates you, then relax - it ain't like that.  $30 gets you a completely private experience:

* A wood-paneled changing room that locks securely;
* A separate shower to clean off and cool down;
* A completely private steam room
* A full hour to soak and relax to your heart's content

Seppo cleans each steam room after a client uses it - trust me, these steam baths are cleaner than your shower at home.

Pro tip: a fantastic place to go on a date.  Not because of any implied nookie - as hot as a steam bath gets, you're not going to have the energy to get frisky.  But it's a way to relax in absolute privacy with your significant other.  It's the quiet moments that are sexy, folks: trust me on this one.

A slice of heaven lives next door to a convenience store in Quincy?  Well I'll be!

After an hour in your own little steamy bungalow you'll leave entirely relaxed and at the same time stimulated and rejuvenated.   There aren't too many better ways to spend 60 minutes (er, outside the bedroom) and for the price it's a truly unbeatable outting.

seasonal note:
Not a fan of winter weather?  Fret not. Take a trip to Finland Steam Baths.  It is the perfect remedy to wet winter boots, icey windshields, frigid mornings, and yellow snow.

Going to Finland is an adventure to be had by ALL south-shore residents!
I took my wife here last weekend, and it was great great great.
The service is very nice.
The facility is spotless.....and historic!!!  Finland Steam Baths has been open since the 1920s!!!

And, no wonder....steaming is relaxing, envigorating, romantic. and healing.  I had a little lower back pain from shoveling the day before....and steaming cured it!!!

I will definately be back for more!!!

by about mid-february in new england, ninety percent of the population pretty much looks like they are on the verge of either the flu, consumption, or general deprivation of any vitamin intake whatsoever. i count myself as one of the unfortunate. so for my health, i decided to do as the fins do, and braved the streets of quincy to find an unassuming little shop consisting of twenty or so private finnish saunas.
parking can be found up the driveway around the back of the blue building housing the saunas, or usually out in front on the street. upon walking into the doors, you'll find the private saunas upstairs. as of the 2008 season, you'll shell out 30 bucks for an hr of sauna if it's just by your lonesome, or 25 each if you are sharing one of the private saunas with a friend or four. after paying in advance, you'll be shown to a dressing room that leads directly to a private shower and your private sauna. before the kind hostess leaves you to cook, you are advised to ring the little bell in the dressing room when you are finished so that the staff can vigorously clean out the sauna, and ready the room for another group of customers.
now for those who haven't been to finland and enjoyed the experience of sauna, i have a few recommendations: 1. only spend about ten to fifteen minutes in the sauna, and then take a break to the shower room. don't stay in the hot room for the full hour or anything. (that's dangerous!) 2. make sure to drink plenty of water. 3. short bursts of the lever used to shoot hot steam into the room will do just fine. don't like open the lever and count to forty or anything like that. (again, that's dangerous!) 4. fill one of the buckets they give you with cold water before each sauna session, so that you can pour it directly onto your head after you spend a few minutes in the steam room. 5. don't be a wuss. really pour that cold water over your head. you know how those people look on those crest toothpaste commercials? that's how you'll feel.

So awesome! Located in a rather sketch looking area of Quincy, but once you get inside it is fabulous! You can easily recognize it from the street by the bright, blue walls and the blue and white Finnish signage. You enter into a small vestibule that is filled with an old scale, some really cool giant rocks and a chime. We entered, waited a few seconds and then were warmly greeted by Seppo. He brought us upstairs to the steam baths area and showed us the set up: you have a small, private dressing room where they have towels waiting for you. There are also many hooks and hangers for you to hang your clothes. The small dressing room then locks from the inside and you proceed to the shower area where you have two large buckets to use during your steam. Adjacent to the shower area is the steam room itself where you control the steam. There is a high and low bench so you can sit or stretch out at your leisure. You might want to study a bit on their website before you go for a visit to feel more comfortable with the experience. While you have the rooms for an hour they recommed you take breaks every 5-10 minutes to take a cold shower and then re-enter the steam room. If you spend too long, uninterrupted in the steam, it is bad. Everything is super clean and all the rooms look freshly painted and very well maintained. You can request that they signal you by flicking the lights when you have 5 minutes left. You then shower and before dressing, signal them to come into clean the shower and steam room via a separate entrance. We had a super pleasant experience. As others have said, it is so relaxing and leaves your skin super smooth. Highly recommended. I can't wait to go back.

GregO's review is right on-this place is superb!!!!
Seppo is a magician,i swear! He does most,if not all of the bodywork here, and he knows every single stitch contained in the human body-and how to help it feel better! He is so down to earth and friendly,no frou-frou spa snobby!
Extra bonus, you get a steam with every massage-before or after..i choose after-what an incredible way to end a massage!!
Do this for your health,do this to relax,do this on a first date...not only do you get to see your hottie nude-but you get to see what sort of endurance they've got! can they handle the heat??
I recommend a big, healthy meal accompanied by a good beer after the steam!

This awesome place was recommended to me by a pal who is married to a guy from Finland and those Finns are all about the sauna! They go all the time and take friends and beer and snacks! It's no frills (if you want a foofy spa, you'll be disappointed) and really cool. I took my husband for his birthday (Naked in Quincy? Right on!). You get your own steam room with a shower room and a connected dressing area. You go by the hour and can steam, take a break in the shower area when it gets too hot, go back and steam, eat your snacks, steam...you get the idea. You get a bucket and some washcloths and you're on your own. We were really pink and totally unstressed afterwards. You need a car to get there...(we used Zipcar).  This place is a real gem. Try to go when they have deals, like Mondays!

This place is great!  You can go on your own or with friends.  I have only gone with my friends- we have "girls day" in the steam room  (we could fit up to 5 of us comfortably in the same steam/shower room).  You get to sit in the little steam room and make it as steamy as you want!  Then cool off in the water when you need to.  Bring your lovely shower scrubby soapy stuff and get squeaky clean.  A good novelty thing to try, and to go back to from time to time- especially in the dead of the cold Boston winter!

Hey,  I am her friend with the Finnish husband!  The owner here is a guy named Seppo.  He is really nice and will tell you anything you want to know about sauna.  It is the only place for a close to authentic sauna around here aside from one in Pembroke run by some temperance union (that means no beer - and that's no fun).  Give it a try.  Your skin is going to love ya for it.
