The pizza is good, the Italian dinners are delicious and the Friday fish fry is amazing. Staff is always great and cheerful. Dinners include soup or salad and a bread basket. You will not leave here hungry. Fish fry is lightly battered and flaky, not greasy. If you do go for fish fry, go early as they do sometimes run out. My only complaint is that they serve Black Bear soda, which I find to be not very good.
Dinners are great from the specials on down to the pasta dinners. I love having linguine with their meat sauce. And even though I am a good eater, after the bread and salad, the pasta portions are big enough to take half home for another meal. Their pizza is really good as well. Choice of crusts and plenty of the traditional toppings to choose from. It's worth it to go up a size for leftovers if you can. -

A few quick precursors to my review:
1. We've never been inside Filippo's - we've always had it delivered
2. We've only had pizza and an appetizer when ordering
The food here is good. I really like the the Sicilian crust! It's got a great flavor. The price is right too. Two reasons I haven't given it 5 stars: the way the pizza is packaged and delivered, it always gets stuck to the cheese and it's a tad greasy. But it's pizza, I'm not eating it for the health benefits.
We order from Filippo's about once a month. It's our favorite local spot in West Allis and there's A LOT of pizza options around! -

Decent little family-owned, Italian restaurant. I have had the pizza (good thin crust) and the pasta - both dishes were good. I don't know what it is about the sauce they put on the pasta dishes, but it's like crack to me. The must use fresh basil because it has a sweet, underlying taste, that makes me gorge myself while I'm there.
Service = decent. Our group had to wait a long time (longer than usual) to get drinks, order, and the bill tonight. But still, it was a good meal.
The only thing I would change? The side salad. First - cabbage with the salad. Gross. Way too much cabbage, hardly any actual lettuce.... Second, the salad was dry and tasted like it had been (and probably was) sitting in the cooler all day. Not very appetizing.
Try the cheesy garlic bread. It's delicious. -

I had a great meal at Filippo's the other night. We started with the antipasto, which was more than generous The pasta we ordered was wonderful and the salad didn't have any cabbage in it.

Finding a good neighborhood Italian restaurant that has great food, good service, and inexpensive prices is a rough one these days.
We've been to Filippo's before for lunch, but dinner was an all new experience. It was outstanding, among our best experiences so far this year.
We were a fairly large party (8) which is always challenging for waitstaff. The server, Mario (per the receipt), had another server tagging along, possibly training. He expertly described the specials, soup, etc., and took drink orders, leaving us for just about the right amount of time to ponder the menu. He had good advice regarding an appetizer of sicilian garlic bread, which we ordered with some reservations, but he turned out to be 100% correct, it was better than the cheese garlic bread we had also ordered (which was good in its own right, the sicilian was just *better*). Taking our orders, he was helpful and patient. Appetizers were announced a few minutes before arrival, and were served in reasonable time. Salads and soups, included with entrees, arrived at a reasonable pace, not rushing us, but not making us wait. A breadbasket with both toasted and untoasted soft break arrived. A refill on drinks appeared shortly before the entrees. Dinner arrived, and was beautiful.
One interesting point, with several children along, and Filippo's not offering any children's menus, we opted to place an order of mostaccioli with sausage and split it between two kids. It arrived, without asking, pre-split on two plates, and kind of raised eyebrows because it actually looked like two separate orders, the plates were both pretty loaded. We didn't say a word, just curious to find out if they had made a mistake when we checked on the bill, but it was correct. I was very impressed at the effort displayed.
As for the food, I ordered chicken cordon bleu, and they delivered what almost looked like a cannonball in gravy and mushrooms. It was ... huge. It was great. Definitely my best dinner in a month. On top of that, it was reasonably priced, only $13.45, which included salad, soup, bread, and a small bowl of pasta with sauce. Everyone else's dinners were less expensive.
Service, excellent. Food, excellent. Price, affordable. Five stars, no hesitation. -

Best crust in Milwaukee, assuming you like a sicilian-style crust: not too thick, not too thin, with a cruncy outside but a chewy inside. I find the pizza is best if you order extra sauce.
