This was SUCH a great find during one day-trip to New York City.  We were near Central Park South visiting and decided to just pick a random place for lunch.  We wanted to try something different but also something light so after searching on Yelp we saw this place with 4+ star review and decided to give it a shot.

What a choice we made!  It's a cute little shop and we almost missed it because the building the cafe was in was going through some construction work.  But we were glad we found it.

I can't remember what other people ordered but I ordered a half sandwich and soup combo - lobster salad and I think the soup of the day was red pepper or something like that.  They were the BEST sandwich and soup combo I've had.  I loved the bread, unfortunately I don't now what it is and I don't really care because it was so good.  The creaminess of the soup was just right - it was light and flavorful with bit of spice.

I also ordered fruit iced tea which was equally light and flavorful (not too sweet either!).  They had other sandwiches and baked goods on display plus some patisseries and chocolates.  If I could I'd have bought one of each to take home to try.

Next time I'm around Central Park South, I will definitely stop by again!

Love this place - in my opinion, best latte you're going to find midtown. Great food, really amazing pastries (try the chocolate balls!). The meatball and beet sub was unusual and delicious. Cute cafe, small, not a lot of room to sit but would be nice if you could find a spot. They do customer reward cards - 10 coffees and you get one free, that kind of thing. The service is fast and courteous, not exactly chitchat friendly but that's also pretty great for midtown.

If you're looking for really good espresso in this part of town Fika's the place to go.

dude - this place is great.  the daily soups are so flavorful and delish, they have great sandwiches with interesting spins (avocado, tomato cheese on RAISIN bread - whaaat?  surprisingly delish)  it's also reasonably priced especially for the location - i can get a soup and 1/2 a sandwich for lunch for $9 - that's pretty sweet!

so far every time i've gone, there's been a veggie soup option which i'm a fan of - and to top it all off - the people who work there are super nice (and cute!)

so all in all - i give them 4/5 stars.  -1 star b/c i wasn't in love with their hot chocolate.

Espresso is normal. employees attitude is not great and always kinna mad when busy. The place is not comfy at all. Helpless. I believed and tried few times there... But, I never felt better there.

Normally when I'm running from one side of town to the other to get to work in the mornings from my chiropractor, I aim to grab a coffee on the way.  This particular morning was super chilly so I popped into Fika to grab a latte.

The interior is very modern looking.  It's mostly a black and white color palette with some paintings hanging (with prints for sale).  Fika serves food in addition to coffee, and that includes many impressive looking chocolates in its display case.  This was not a morning for candy however.  I ordered my latte from the two nice young ladies behind the counter and after a couple minutes of waiting, I was off and running despite quite the crowd having accumulated in the store.

The latte itself was tasty and I appreciated the cute heart shape the young lady put into it (I'm used to seeing a leaf).  The flavor wasn't as deep as I'm used to, but it was definitely full bodied and I enjoyed it as I wandered towards mid-town in the chilly morning.

I think next time I drop in it will be to try out their Americano, and maybe a chocolate (or three)!

I went there in October 2011 because of a Living Social deal. The ground coffee and most of the chocolates were delicious. However, one of the pur caribe chocolates tasted like it had some kind of chemical solvent in it. I took half a bite and then spit it out. I showed my roommates the other half and they all agreed it stank of some kind of strong chemical. When I complained to the store the manager Jessica F. apologized and offered to mail me a $25 gift card. I never received the gift card and she has not responded to my follow-up emails. Such a shame because the other types of chocolates were delectable but that experience was awful enough to deter me from ever trying them again.

Atif, I gave this place a few more shots just for you (and my love of chocolate & coffee haha)!

The cappuccino was good, I was surprised when I saw it was only $3, until I received my little baby cup.. aha.. 2/3 the size of a 'small' elsewhere. It was rich, intense and tasty.

Double macchiato was too strong, right amount of caffeine for the day I was having, but a little too intensely bitter for me, I'll be sticking to the cappuccino.

If you like flavored or sweet drinks, this is not your place, but if you are a fan a straight espresso, come here! :)

I like the cookie flavors but they are a little dry, and on the small side, especially for $2 each.

I LOVED the coconut chocolate balls! Fun to order, and delicious. Soft, fudgey and plentiful coconut. If you don't like things that are rich, sweet or coconut, avoid this, otherwise they are heavenly :)

I got the ditsy blonde experience the second and third times, with the girl often confusing my order with the ones of other customers when I was paying, and just being confused in general, but she was cute and sweet.

The barstools are pretty uncomfortable, I like drinking in and not wasting the paper for to-go cups, but especially if its busy here you're better off taking your drink down the street to the park.

    * finally tried their latte. Perfection! If you like high espresso to milk ratio go for the cappuccino, but I think the latte is perfectly creamy and silky, but still distinctly espresso. yum!

Long story short: Get a latte/cappuccino & chocolate balls to go :)

After taking a stroll through Central Park with SL last Saturday, we decided to stop by here for some treats.  It was right before closing and a luckily we got our order in...

    We had the following:
    1.  cappuccinos (medium or large?) with double shots of espresso for $3.75 before tax:
SL said it was one of the best she's ever had.  The double shot of espresso did not make us extra jittery.

    2.  chocolate chip cookie for $1 before tax:
I'd avoid this item.  The cookie was of the crunchy variety and not really my thing.  The chocolate chips were very good though...

    3.  six chocolates for $10 before tax:
white chocolate:  it was good.  But you you have to eat it slow as it's really sweet
milk chocolate:  very nice with a liquid center...

In regards to the service, that day the AC broke down and it must have been 85 degrees in that little coffee shop.  Despite the rough conditions, the level of service was still very good.  Thank you ladies~

As my buddies Hans and Franz say, We Want to Pump You Up! (With Fika)

Ahh the Swedish. They have all the cool stuff. Björn Borg. ABBA. Ikea. Saab. Fish. And now coffee. I think if there was a country we could take over for their goods, Its this country. Who needs oil when you have good coffee?

Listen, I've been paying $5 bucks at Grom for a small cup of gelato. Their coffee cups are a little smaller, true.  I'd rather spend more money to get a quality product than to have a Venti crappa mappa of anything else.

Here's the cool part about this place. Ok, the coffee is bangin'. But the cookies?

I had a chocolate Hazelnut cookie here that was off the wall. It tasted like there was fiber in this sucka?! It kept me full all day!

So tell the barista, what type of coffee shop closes at 7pm? This is NYC, things start rollin' after 10:30? He says, I need a life. A life? Dude, I need FIKA! (And what the HECK is Fika? How do you even say it, Like a FICA score?? I've been calling it FLICKA!)

I love their sandwiches, and im  little crazy in Swedish food, because I'm so rarely in Sweden and only been there a few times. , So you can go here and eat the good pastries or sandwiches, or just have a cup of coffee.

There are a lot of Swedish dishes that are good.
Try also their "crisp" very good.

Found by accident.  Great find, returned the next day.  That being said, suggest enhancements to the quantity of the stuff in the sandwiches.  The bread was fresh and yummy, but when I opened my chicken curry sandwich I wondered if the chef had forgotten to add the chicken, and the same was true the prior day with the tuna sandwich.  Like be real, add some more food in those sandwiches!  The soups needed pepper and salt, and we're served luke warm.  The music is force and stayed longer to listen to it and enjoy cappachino and dessert.

the coffee is far above average, but despite the cool décor, there was an air of neglect about the place.

the quality of the pastries and sandwiches disappointed. as a copenhagener living in new york, i had hoped for it to be several notches above IKEA-standards, and it is, but, on the day of my visit, the cardamon buns lacked vitality while the shrimp sandwich seemed to suffer from sitting on display for too long. as a small detail, the tables had also not been wiped down from the morning rush.

that said, there was nothing wrong with the service: all smiles and good intentions.

for future visits, i'll limit my order to the coffee drinks and be quite happy with that.

Fika is an oasis for me. In between Quality Meats and Plaza Hotel on the 58th street, this unexpecting Swedish Espresso cafe jewel welcomes, comforts, and well, excites me.

One day, I walked in, there they were - Two boys wearing identical blue shirts with three buttons down , with caption Hook kinda hats, wearing 'bad boy' smiles... "What can I help you?" twin boys asked. "Everything!", I almost cried out.

Every time I go back to Fika, this erotic (there, I said it!) excitement bubbles around me.

Fika expanded its stores up to three now; Midtown, Park Avenue, and Pearl street (signature flagship store). I only patron Midtown one for 'erotic' expectation.

Now, Fika means 'coffee break' in Swedish. How appropriate name it is. Its vibe is relaxing featuring decent espresso, handmade chocolates, light sandwiches, soup, of course, swedish meatballs. You can sit as long as you want, but at the same time, you don't want to sit there TOO long since it's just perfect for a short, satisfying afternoon pick-me-up.

Espresso is decent. It's not over the top, but better than Starbucks. You can easily spot Europeans sipping espresso with a glass of water standing by the bar. There should be a reason why Europeans come to this place for a caffeine fix. Fika imports coffee from Sweden's oldest roastery, Löfbergs Lil, every two weeks. You can buy these beans at Fika, also.

Milky latte is good a company with buttery cookies they bake.

Simple vanilla cookie with berry jam is buttery and comforting.

Or you can try a thick chocolate cookie with sugar or farmer's cookie for almond bites. Muffins are good, too, especially if you are fond of egg-based chewy baking goods.

Hand made chocolate balls are on display. Flavors are from rose hip to coconuts. Fika's chocolates are getting more attention since they debuted the New York Chocolate Show. Also, sandwiches from tuna, veggie, grilled veggie, avocado, shrimp, salmon to meatballs will attract you.

When you need more than wake-up caffeine, you should try their soup. Everyday showcases different menu. This day was tomato soup. As a not-so-crazy-tomato-soup fan, I'm confident to say this one blew me away. Creamy with cheese, Biting with tomato chunks, not so sour not so sweet either, it was so warming. You can order it with bread ($6) or any kind half sandwich($9).

The other day, I had split pea soup with bread. EVOO drops were savory, carrot chunks were sweet, and pea soup was nourishing nutty. It was a little watery, though.

If you are not a soup person, go for meat. Swedish meatballs with creamy potato salads and lingonberries($12)?  Should be better than Ikea version of it, right? Jessica, help me here. How was meatballs? I forgot to taste it.

Look, I confessed already. I go to Fika for an 'unhealthy' reason. However, when leaving, I am always lightened up from healthy bites or sweet chocolates. And of course, caffeine helps.

Super good lattes and cappuccino and absolutely the best croissants(and tiniest) I have found in the city, better than Petrossian! The only reason I'm giving it only 2 stars is because they don't offer organic milk. Since it's now common knowledge that non-organic milk comes from cows injected with bio-engineered hormone that cause serious health problems for human beings, all coffee bars should offer organic milk. I would especially expect this from European places as Europeans have more conscience when it comes to the quality of food (European governments have banned rBGH hormone). When they do, I will upgrade my review to 5 stars.

I went here since I was in the neighborhood and there was a Scoutmob deal for it!

I ordered the Avocado sandwich and a cappuccino. Since I got 50% off (thank you Scoutmob!), it totaled to $5.75. The avocado sandwich was definitely good and substantial, but $8 for an uncomplicated sandwich I could make at home?! Alright alright, that neighborhood is a little pricey and $8 is standard. But the $3.50 cappuccino was small; I'm talking a little bigger than an espresso shot cup I get on my college campus.

This place is small; however, I was able to relax and read my book for about an hour. The staff doesn't disturb you at all. You just feel bad that you're taking up space while new people are coming in and want to sit down. At least that's why I left. There is only one table and then there are the two bars with stools. I would bump this rating up to a 4 if there were more places to sit.

    What a wonderful little place!

...and I do mean little. I came here today to check it out thanks to a ScoutMob deal and what a surprise! This place is rather small with a short line quickly making the place look like a packed house, but everything I had was delicious.

I ordered a Swedish meatballs platter and a latte. The meatballs were soooo good. They were perfectly juicy and well seasoned. The lingonberry sauce was yummy, too, and helped add a nice touch of sweetness. My food was also served with a bit of salad and creamy potatoes to round out the meal. It looked (and tasted) so good that it caught the attention of a nearby patron.

As for my latte, I must say that it was probably the best latte I've had since I was in Europe a couple years ago. I kinda wish I didn't add a packet of brown sugar because it probably would've been perfect without it.

I'm only giving 4 stars, because the place is tiny and can really accommodate individuals hanging out there briefly. It actually made me fill a bit silly that I was eating a large lunch in such a little setting. Other than that, I highly recommend it!

Despite the preponderance of coffee bars, GOOD espresso can be hard to find! Thus, Fika is a pleasant discovery. Cute little place with sexy, well dressed barristas, dispensing a good cup of coffee. Is it the Swedish connection? I don't know, but they do espresso very, very well. With Demel closed, this serves as a nice euro-influenced substitute.

I stopped in one wintry day with two friends who were visiting.  Tiny little location without much seating, but we were only looking for some coffee to go, so no worries there.

Between us three, we got a hot chocolate, a black coffee, and a delightfully milky latte.  We tried each others drinks (all lovely), and I was more than a little unwilling to share my latte with my friends.  No complaints about any drink.

Additionally, the cute Swedish barista behind the counter was an absolute pleasure.  The line was pretty decent (about seven people inside a tiny location), but he was more than patient when a few people did not have their orders ready by the time they had reached the counter.  And although I already knew what I wanted, there were others in line who asked for suggestions and he was more than willing to oblige them.

    Will definitely go back.

O, Sweden, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways:

    1. Ikea
    2. H&M (what I can afford) and Acne (what I wish I could afford)
    3. Your progressive and egalitarian attitudes towards politics, the environment and sexuality
    4. Your mastery of modernism
    5. ABBA
    6. Herring for breakfast. Don't laugh, I like it.
    7. Saunas

So, I have a soft spot for pretty much anything Swedish, except the salty licorice (which is available for purchase here). Now I'll enumerate why I like Fika:

    1. Food is really quite good and the portions are big. I've had and enjoyed the shrimp sandwich (forget the name) and the vegetarian sandwich (Malmo), plus some cookies, chocolates and coffee. The bread is fresh and crusty on the outside, chewy on the inside. And I'm very picky about bread.
    2. Swedish eye candy. Everyone who works here, male and female, is attractive and it's fun to listen to them speak Swedish.
    3. Lovely modern decor. A lot of it is from Ikea.
    4. Best for last: BOTTOMLESS COFFEE! When you stay, they serve you in a real cup and saucer (I HATE drinking out of paper cups, especially when I'm staying) and will refill regular coffee as often as you like.

    Cons (small ones):
    1. The food is fairly expensive. But the portions are large, as I said, and it's okay for an occasional treat. The coffee drinks are reasonable.
    2. The service is coolly efficient, but I think it could be just a touch more charming. A little more warmth and Fika would be absolutely perfect.

Both of these cons are barely even worth mentioning, however, since they are both completely negated by the pros, especially the bottomless coffee. All in all, it's a wonderful little place to duck into for lunch or to sit for awhile for a fika with a friend.

Swedish coffee shop with no proper wi-fi.

I came here along my coffee shop wi-fi hop. Needless to say I was disappointed when they said they don't have wireless set up. You gotta try connect to whatever unsecure network you can find and none of them were that good in connection.

The coffee shop itself was very small and cramped. they have bar + stool setup against a wall (couple power outlets) and a window. There are also a couple tables. The drink and snack selection was alright. I ended up getting the swedish Pear soda which tasted like Ramune (Japanese marble soda)- the fridge they keep it in didn't cool it much (unless thats how they do it in  Sweden?).

It was ok. I'd come back, but without my laptop. No wi-fi.

The IKEA of coffee shops - that's how my friend described this place.  Quite a good summary LOL

Turns out Fika is Swedish for coffee so entirely unimaginative hahahh - but it's cute :)  The place does look like an IKEA, with contemporary furniture with the clean, austere lines - almost minimalist!

We really were looking for the free Wi-Fi - no need for coffee.  So we got some kind of flavored sparkling water - I added two vanilla cookies and bingo - good to go for the next few hours and complete some work.

The guy who took my order was clearly Swedish and a funny guy too.  When I asked him about the SSID for the Wi-Fi, he says something like - "oh, just connect to whatever you find, if it works great, if not, tough!!"  Hmmm, so they leach Wi-Fi from neighbors?  Or was he being facetious?  I'll never know since we connected to a network quite easily and were up and running.

A lot of food options (this is also a pseudo restaurant/deli) - and the place was really busy (got there a little after 3, if I remember) and people were still stopping in for food/lunch.

A large selection of Swedish products (packaged) - lingonberry jam, flatbread, cookies and jelly beans.  Sadly, no Swedish fish :(

Ideally located on 58th very close to Central Park, I can see this being popular with tourists as well as locals from the hundreds of surrounding office and retail establishments.

Had a good, undisturbed couple of hours - the staff never intruded or gave us a sense of unwelcomeness, despite the fact that we only bought about 10 bucks worth!  Lots of credit for that.

So, an overall good experience.  Maybe next time we'll try the coffee as well :)

    4 stars!

    I love my Fika.

This is my go-to place for that perfect cup of latte.  A whopping 8 blocks from my office, and I kid you not-- I will trek over there in the rain, sub-zero temperatures, hail, sleet, or snow. No more fear when I start nodding off in a staccato beat next to my boss a mere 2 feet away (i can literally almost touch her)--a 10-min. walk to Fika and I'm revived! Sleek and oh-so-clean, this place is a haven for espresso lovers. Excellent quality espresso the kind that rivals my other favorite espresso place-- Zibetto. These two are neck & neck, but I will give the edge to Fika due to their delicious selection of cookies, hand-rolled chocolates (a must try),  sandwiches, and basically all things Swedish!

Warning: Starbucks 'aficionados' beware, this place is tiny, service (though efficient) is European pace, and no--you cannot order your "tall triple shot skinny peppermint hot white chocolate mocha" here. Sorry, make haste, and proceed to the next corner please.

The vanilla dream cookies are worth dreaming about, especially when paired with a steaming cup of cocoa. The cute staff doesn't hurt either, although I do find the interior a bit cold (design-wise), and they could figure out seating a bit better. I mostly prefer coffee places where you feel like you can hang out awhile over the ones built for darting in and out. And with the delicious desserts they've got here, you'll want to leisurely linger.

I'm not usually in the 'hood, but it's definitely worth the stop if you are.

Everything about this place is clean. From the decor, the taste of the food, the caliber of the servers, to the literal dirt level. It's modern, chrome and matte wood surfaces, nothing superfluous. There's a four person bar, overlooking the street and a three person table, tiny. (But the best seat is on the rocks at Central Park on the left of the 6th Ave entrance.)

First thing you'll notice behind the counter is the huge, sweet espresso machine, which they boast is the best in town (though I didn't sample any). The heavenly pastries and homemade chocolates will be calling to you which they've separated from wandering hands by a thick glass, though I don't know if this is more a disservice to your caloric intake or their money making potential. Don't leave without several of these for the tasting. We had lunch, the crab and shrimp salad for my gal, and the laxpudding (square quiche) for me. Dressing selection was nice: ginger and basil, lingonberry vinaigrette. Nothing fancy overall, but certainly tasty, prepared by the woman in the chef's coat and hat on premises. Yes, Sweden. You do it better.

I work in Midtown, almost equi-distant from Fika and Zibetto, and let me tell you, it's always a struggle trying to decide which place to go to get my afternoon espresso fix, because they're both good.

In terms of decor, this place has chairs (unlike Zibetto, which is standing room only), so it's great to sit down, but the dingy street view of 58th street, makes you thankful that you're sharing your espresso with a friend.

I have yet to try lunch here, but the baked goods, especially the Chocolate balls, are unbelievable.  This is usually the deciding factor for me, as Zibetto doesn't offer such delicacies.

However, the consistency of the quality of the espresso can be a hit a miss, depending on who's behind the counter.  When it's good, your palate will be floating on a cloud of espresso bliss.  When it's bad...well, let's not go there.

I wish it weren't so, but this cafe is overly priced and not as Swedish as I had hoped. Namely, the food is mostly what makes this cafe "Swedish," even though the menu had the heading "Summer Menu." (Confusing!) I guess I was hoping for some other Swedish flare. Fika has some additional gourmet foods, spreads, and snacks for sale, but even they are not marketed as something obviously Swedish - except for the glögg.

For two lattes and two pastries, my total came out to $14.
I would recommend the cinnamon and apple muffins, but the cinnamon roll was a bit dry.

This place has a surprising amount of seating available, but you will most likely get a counter seat.

Maybe I was just expecting too much out of this Swedish cafe.

Fika ar myket gott. (Fika is very good)

Coffee & snacks at FIKA, is true Swedish experience.

My brother and I stopped by this past weekend for the first time. We walked in to find a delightful archipelago of Swedish cuisine and culture...

Everyone in FIKA were speaking Swedish which further solidified the authenticity of the little Coffee Shop.

We tried Coffee, Kanelbullar, and Gravlax. Everything was tasty, fresh, and genuinely Swedish.

After spending two weeks in Sweden I have come to appreciate that Swedes know a thing or two about their coffee.  FIKA provides some of that enlightment right here on 58th street.

Loved the coffee.  Loved the Choklad bollar (coconut-covered chocolate-coffee cookies).

This is my new watering hole.  Yum!

I wanted a snack, and we had just finished looking for toy lambs at FAO Schwarz, so we consulted Yelp and ended up checking out Fika, a short walk nearby.  It was great!

I tried the hot chocolate, which was delicious and not too sweet (a rarity!), and also made from real chocolate shavings.  We also tried a cinnamon roll, which was solidly good.

The Swedish barista guy was super nice and sweet.  The decor is clean and modern.  Thoroughly enjoyed our short visit there, and wished we could try some of the coffee.

Pricey coffee and treats served in a cramped Ikea-inspired sitting room. Its a great place to have a classy chat but a rip off otherwise.

This place is IKEA meets Starbucks. In a good way.

Very good coffee and friendly service. I don't have much to add over the other Yelpers except to say that Fika does have free WiFi! (Hard to find in midtown.) There's not much seating, but most of their customers are to go so you should be able to find a spot.

Delicious!!! I've been there twice for lunch and everything has been great. Very friendly staff, good sandwhiches, great coffees and amazing deserts. This place is quickly becoming a regular spot for me.

    Thanks ScoutMob for introducing me!!!
