My partner and I went to the Fig Tree for our Anniversary, it was amazing.  From appetizer to dessert... 5 stars all the way around.

We each had the prime rib, I would say this steak was probably in my top 5!

They also went above expectations and surprised us with a plate of yummies, and wrote happy anniversary in chocolate!!!

I thought this place was a bit overpriced and the food underwhelming.  The back patio is nice because it is a multi-layered terrace overlooking the Riverwalk.  The foot was good but not great, it sort of reminded me of when I went to the racetrack with my grandparents and sat in the dining area.  Which is to say it felt like an upscale 1950's dining experience.  The service was fine if not a little aggressive, but I think you could do better for the money.

Higher end restaurant on the Riverwalk.  I haven't been to the Riverwalk since I was in high school (think ~10 yrs. ago).  We were taking a road trip to San Antonio since when we usually come to Texas we're in Houston the entire time.  I was looking for something a little nicer than the bbq joints (which I love) and the tex-mex places.  We ended up here after searching the yelp reviews.  Based on looks, the average age of the patrons was around late 40s to early 50s.  We were definitely the youngest people there.

We've been to a lot of nice restaurants; it's one of our hobbies, food.  I really think this place is more 3.5 stars rather than 4, but I rounded up in the spirit of the holiday season.  We sat outside on the patio and the service was decent, but it was one waiter running up and down quite a few stairs to serve two tables.  He was a nice guy, knowledgeable, but he would disappear at random intervals and we wouldn't see him for a while. At the price point of this restaurant, I expected slightly more attentive service.  The amuse bouche was a crab and caper filling in a puff pastry.  We split the crab cake as a starter which was tasty, but nothing amazing.  For entrees, I had the duck breast and my husband had the striped bass.  The duck breast was good, but I think the striped bass was better.  I skipped on dessert because the entree portions were quite large (rare for expensive restaurants), but my husband had the baked alaska.  Everything was prepared well, but the key to success here (like a lot of expensive restaurants) is lots of butter and fat.  If you want inventive creative, this doesn't really fit the bill. If you want expertly prepared French cuisine this is your place.

We went to the Fig Tree to celebrate our anniversary and had a wonderful time. We had an early reservation and were the first guests at the restaurant. The staff was pleasant and very accommodating. They started our dinner off with a complimentary champagne for our anniversary, which was a very nice touch. Our server was very helpful, if a bit overbearing, but only in such a way to show that she was trying to help us appreciate the meal to its fullest. The Fig Tree has an extensive wine list, with options to fit most budgets.  The soups were tasty, with the main courses being perfectly prepared. I actually broke a personal ban and ate the venison, which came with such a perfectly complimentary set of sides that I couldn't pass. We finished the evening with the Bananas Foster, which provided a nice show as well as a delicious end to our meal.

The view of the Riverwalk was gorgeous and I regretted sitting inside. If you can be assured of nice weather, book your table for the patio area for the ambiance. If you can, plan on visiting the shops in La Villita before your meal - it's like a walking art tour, and you may find the perfect addition to your collection.

Oh.. My.. God.  This restaurant scored perfectly in every category I can think of.  Let's start with location.  The Fig Tree Restaurant is located directly on the Riverwalk near the Hilton Hotel.  There's a riverwalk entrance, but the formal entrance is on Villita Street.  Don't try to find parking nearby - park at a parking garage and walk the riverwalk.

The atmosphere was wonderful.  Although it looks small from the outside, the restaurant is actually very spacious!  It's essentially a large house, complete with two stories, a fireplace and an outdoor patio.  Even the bathrooms seem very "home-like" - small and made for a single person.  We felt very comfortable in this environment apparently, so did everyone else.  While we were dressed nicely (suit for me, a dress for me wife), other people interpreted "business casual" as jeans and a t-shirt.  One douche who was being particularly loud was wearing shorts and sandals.  If a restaurant is going to put a dress code out there, they should ENFORCE it.  Ugh.  Oh well.

The food - oh man, this is where it went from "great" to AMAZING!  We started with the lump crab and avocado stack that was served with some pureed cilantro ($10).  This is really only enough for one person.  We made the mistake of trying to split this and it was tiny - but delicious.  For our entrees, I orderd the 16oz. prime rib eye ($40) cooked rare and it didn't come with anything so I ordered a side of the mac and cheese gratin ($8) and a lobster tail ($58), which I realized was like 10 oz. and really more of an entree than an add on.  My wife ordered the Rossini ($42), which was basically two beef filet medallions with foie gras (duck fat -  possibly one of the most wonderful things in the world) on top of each.  It came with mashed potatoes with truffles, asparagus, and wild mushrooms.  Everything was DELICIOUS - the steaks were cooked perfectly and the macaroni and cheese gratin was amazing.

We ended the night with two orders of the Banana Fosters ($10/each), which was neat because the waiter actually flambes them at your table-side.   They have a little bit of a twist when it comes to this dessert and that is that they use a puff pastry shaped like a swan!  The put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the swan and then put the cooked bananas in it and drizzle it with the remaining sauce (banana liquor and rum).   You HAVE to get this when you go.

The service was excellent, which was expected of a restaurant this caliber.  The waiter was polite, quick, attentive, and always there if we needed him.  Drinks never went empty and he was always very quick to describe any and every dish we asked him about.

There's really nothing I can complain about this restaurant.  If you do go, I suggest dining inside instead of on the outdoor seating.  It's way too hot during the day to be enjoying food like this and at night, when it cools down, it's too windy and noisy.  Sit inside and if you want, get a table that's facing outside and you can still enjoy the sights of the Riverwalk without sacrificing your atmosphere.   Enjoy!  I know you will!

This was the best meal that we had on a business trip (5-6 days, 2-3 people) to San Antonio a few weeks ago  The food was amazing, the wine was terrific, and the server know his stuff.  If we had room for the baked alaska or other flaming desserts, it would have gotten expensive.

There were groups of business people having dinner, couples celebrating their anniversaries, etc.  It didn't seem like the most child-friendly restaurant in town but a kid who knows when to sit down and act like an adult for a few hours could do well.  A meal at the Fig Tree is an event, and one that I hope I get to experience again.

A thought about eating outside:  It's a great idea but it's hard to predict the weather when you make reservations.  The restaurant probably has a way to deal with this & next time I'll ask about it when I make reservations.  Not that there are any upcoming business trips to San Antonio... I'll have to work on that.

This place was an amazing find. We sat in the outdoor seating, which was right above the River Walk and was beautifully decorated. The indoor seating was nice too, but if the weather is nice, the outdoor seating is much better. The menu had a range of seafood and other meat options, but there were not any purely vegetarian dishes (other than the starters). We opted for the cream of pumpkin soup (amazing) and the dish of the day (blackened halibut with a baked tomato filled with rice and veggies). The food was outstanding, as was the service. The desert menu was impressive, with a couple deserts featuring at-the-table preparations that included briefly setting the dish on fire - our firing baked alaska was pretty impressive (and tasty too).

I've been to a fair number of restaurants in the Austin and Georgetown area, and this is by far the best restaurant I've been to in Texas. Be ready to spend a decent amount of money, but it's well worth it.

It has been years since we have been here, yet it stands out in our minds. We sat on the patio near the water surrounded by trees and Fairy Lights....how could you ask for anything more? Especially when accompanied by delightful food and gracious service.

This place was outstanding. I was very surprised at how nice it was. We sat outside, basically right above the riverwalk. We started out with pumpkin soup, which was excellent and then had a blackened halibut for the main dish. My wife thought that the soup was the best whereas I was partial to the fish. Either way, the meal was excellent. For desert we had the baked alaska, which was worth  the $10 just for the fire show. There really are no downsides to this place other than that it's pretty pricey. We were also reminded that we were in texas as we were within earshot of a kids dance competition. Great place and I would definitely go here again for a special occasion.
