3 reviews for Fifth Street Dick's Coffee House
Fifth street dicks is a dope cafe where you can get good coffee, meet interesting people, and check out some good music or a good film.
great place to go to catch up with a friend, or even just to read the paper or the book that's been sittin on your nightstand~!
You can never have enough favorite coffee houses right? I've definitely found one in Fifth Street Dick's. You can linger over a coffee and sandwich or the fresh juice of the day at this recently re-invigorated Leimert Park coffee house / music destination. I love that you can choose from cozy indoor couches, tables or espresso bar seating to outdoor tables - great for connecting with the neighborhood regulars.
The staff made us feel right at home - even my friend's curious, crawling 16-month-old was made to feel welcome. I've read that they have wireless Internet available - I haven't checked it out yet. Also worth calling to find out their performance schedule. Traditionally they've had jazz and spoken word for a nominal cover charge on weekend evenings.
It's worth the trip for the story alone...it's namesake and founder, Richard Fulton, was known as "Fifth Street Dick" during his 4.5 years living homeless on the streets of downtown Los Angeles. He opened the storefront coffee company around the corner from the current location in 1992. The world has since lost Dick, in 2000, but his spirit lives on in the re-opened location. Located in the heart of Leimert Park Village just a block east of Crenshaw. Easy parking and cheap meters!
a leimert park darling and community staple. love this place and the people who dwell in it.
