Since I occaisionally work only one block away, I have been here a few times. Like everyone says, the service is always impressive. I've had the chimichanga, taco salad, which were both pretty good, but my usual order is a black bean burrito with extra cheese and sour cream and chips with no salsa, mmmmmm mmmmmm. Sometimes when work has gotten to be too stressful, I've had to get away to come here for a few drinks, and all the drinks I've had were good.

Wow! I'm shocked at the mediocore reviews for this place. It seems like many are discussing lunch, and since i've only done cocktails and dinner, it may be that we are looking for different things.. But to me, this place has it all! The drinks are top notch and they are stocked w/ a full bar, so modifications are always welcome. The service is fantastic and the salsa here is fresh and delicious (i could make a meal out of it alone, like a spicy gazpacho soup!). They are very health savvy in their ingredient selection, so even the chips are light, fresh but not greasy. The chicken soup is fantastic, big chunks of meat and fresh veggies.. the salad delicious and fresh, i've liked the salmon. In general, its the healthiest mexican choice around, has a fabulous back patio for dining al fresco and on weekend night they have a jazzy guitar lighting things up. Sure, it isn't cheap, but i appreciate the emphasis on fresh ingredients and figure that's what it costs to eat a nice meal in Los Altos. My one complaint is closing at 9 pm, makes for an early Friday night, but I guess that's what the market there requires. All around, i'll be spending many a summer night on this patio and thrilled to have such a yummy standby for my tequila and taco cravings!

The service here was TOP NOTCH, in my opinion, it's the kind of service you SHOULD experience at white linens.
As much as this pains me to say it, the food was kind of... not incredibly great. The waiter suggested carnitas as the meat of choice, so my boyfriend and I both ordered carnitas super burritos.
The chunks of carnitas were huge, definitely larger than what I would prefer, and the burritos were just so-so. And even worse, since it's a Los Altos establishment... the prices were pretty outrageous for a mediocre burrito, $13 I think.
We also had margaritas, and they were pretty good!
Funny local drunk bar crowd that were pretty entertaining.
You can tell this is a family business, and the service was 5+ stars, but I think they need to cut down the menu size (there are a million entrees on there) and they need to bump up the food quality, STAT!

OK, I dont know who you other people are...but on SUNDAYS...after a longgg weekend, I wants me some MEXICAN FOOD. And Vive sol is closed, and as much as I love La Fiesta, they are slow as helll there. This place was like a big glowing AAAAAAAH light from heaven. WOW, good food, INCREDIBLE service, and they dont care if my friends and I are rolling on the floor laughing at ourselves (because, we ARE the funniest people WE have ever met!) I havent been here during the evening, because it would never EVER occur to me to actually go out and get drinks in Los Altozzzzzzzz..the most boring town ever. But, we have decided this may be our version of church. Sundays at Fiesta Vallarta. Beats the hell outa a guilt trip......lol
I will be here any freakin sunday I can...and apparently, reading this blog, I need to go at night? LAWD, I thought "Bandera" was the only Los Altos place for drinks. Maybe I will try this? does it close at freakin 7 when LA's streets roll up?I will keep you posted if I actually have fun somewhere in LA at night. Aint happend yet.....(again, I can throw this crap out, I GREW UP HERE!!)
Ascencion G. must be one of the owners or work for this restaurant because there's no other way in hell this place could get 5 stars!
I really wanted to like this place. Boyfriend & I both ordered burritos. They're equally as bad as Gloria's Famous Burritos on Saratoga in SJ. Bland, dried out meat & expensive for what you get.
I agree with the others, service is great. Oh, the soda was alright too LOL! Taco Bell & Del Taco has better food to offer than this place though...

Okay Mexican food but nothing memorable. Had the tamale lunch with rice and beans and it was okay. Nice outdoor patio but not much business during lunch time.
Bottom line: Ho hum. But willing to give it another try.

Service is excellent. Servers were attentive and patient and we were served very promptly and politely.
They have a lovely patio with heat lamps, and it's perfect in the evening to be out in the open air.
Food was below expectations. The carnitas was lumpy and lacked flavor. Definitely had better Mexican food elsewhere. I'm sorry to say, for the price they charge here, the entrees are mediocre. The side dishes like rice and bean were good.
Tried the pina coloda and the mix they use had an odd taste...
Ok, this would be by far the worst burrito in history.
Los Altos doesn't know what a burrito is, let alone try to make one that is edible. I wouldn't be so hard on this place if the burrito didn't cost me 11 bucks.
The people were nice and they tried to decorate the place with a Mexican theme. I guess red tapestry and sombreros do the trick sometimes. But really, the food here was sub par.
The chicken the burrito tasted like the frozen strips you get at safeway and the rice and beans tasted like paste. Plus, the burrito was about 4 inches long, super small!
Ok, so I was starving and remembered that this place existed in down town Los Altos and thought I'd give it a shot. Bad news to the max.
That day I really felt guilty on something I shouldn't have ever splurged on. You know that feeling you get when you see a homeless guy on the street asking for money and you walk by with wad of cash in your hand burning them with fire, then felt bad because you didn't give him your Burger king fries? Yeah, I got that feeling that day and it was bad.

LOCATION:
In down town Los Altos, street/parking lot parking.
AMBIANCE:
I have never eaten inside but the outdoor courtyard is very pleasant. Warning: Do not use the restroom (it is shared by the other stores around) if you can help it. I literally walked in and turned around to leave. It looked like it had not been cleaned in a very long time.
MENU:
Your average menu (I have only been there for lunch), I ordered the carnitas soft tacos which were not as spicy as I am use to, but not bad.
SERVICE:
Very slow. I had to ask the waitress for a refill on my water 3 times.
OVERALL:
A fine place for lunch, not the best or the worst Mexican food I've had. 3 stars for the overall experience.
Great spot as both a local watering hole and restaurant. If you come in alone, the evening bartender, Abdul, makes you feel at home by introducing you to others at the bar. He also makes great margaritas. The food is quite good. The bean soup with avocado is outstanding.
Very cute patio to enjoy a table in the outdoors behind the restaurant.
Friendly service, bland food (I thought it was edible, my husband who prefers 'real' Mexican disagreed).
For lunch it is okay.
My date and I were very unsatisfied with the food. My vegetable burrito tasted like it had been boiled in salt water for an hour. Her chilli relleno was just as flavorless and soggy. We barely ate. Prices were high for the quality (Taco Bell prices would be high for this quality). The server insisted we take the food home, even after I declined the first invitation. Not wanting to be rude, we obliged, and then threw it away in the trash can outside. My marguerita martini was OK.
We were strolling through Los Gatos down town yesterday and asked: "Is there somewhere good to eat that is 'kid friendly'?" We were told that "the mexican restaurant on the corner" was pretty good and that they had a great place to sit outside. We were sold.
So, we walked in and I was a little taken aback by the bar (we are not drinkers...) and thought this might not be the best place to take my 4 yr old to eat...however, we were quickly seated outside and the patio was really nice. Lots of foliage (if you are into that), shade and comfortable seating.
The service...was SLOW! Friendly and Smiley but terribly SLOW! I think this one girl had all the tables outside and there were about 6-8 that were full, so she was a little over booked. No worries. We didn't have anything better to do.
We finally orderd and I had 2 steak tacos (kind of street taco style) with the rice and beans. My son ate the rice and beans... My husband ordered the "Super Burrito". He always orders the "Super Burrito". Makes no difference what new place we try...he will order the Super Burrito. This is just too much burrito IMO. But I digress...
So, the food came pretty quickly, but was bland. No flava! I had orded guac on the side (thank God!) and it was the only thing that saved my meal.
Next time we go hang out/shop in downtown Los Gatos....we are going to try the Japanese place (people refer to the restaurants by cuisine and not names there, apparently...)
Too bad about this joint....
Food was OK, but it should be better for the price you pay.
They have a nice patio that you can use in the summer.
My main issue was the time it took to get service. We waited a total of about one hour to get the food. It first took a long time for the waitress to get to us - it seems that she was getting a large phone order. Then, after she got our order, we waited also for a long time. Apparently they gave priority to a large group that arrived after us but got their food served before us. I guess they are not interested in getting new customers. Given the selection of Mexican restaurants in the area, I would go somewhere else.
This Place is absolutly out this world the food is excelente and they a verry nice patio, full bar Etc.
my favorite part of this restaurant is the patio area in the back. very nice to chill during a nice evening. they also have heaters in case it's gets a little chilly. other than that, this place doesn't stand up to a lot of other mexican restaurants i've been to. and the service was kinda weird. for one - i couldn't really understand what any of the waiters were saying, cause it sounded like they were all mumbling. i came here w/ my friend j, and she ordered a margarita, and i ordered a beer. the waiter ends up carding me, and not her! haha. wtf? isn't that a little rude? i guess it made me feel young, but she was a little offended. i told the waiter he "better card cause she's only 20!" service was a little slow, even for the drinks. overall - nice area, enjoyed the patio, but the service didn't seem too good...
