8 reviews for Fess Parker Wine Country Inn & Spa
One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
We stayed here for our engagement trip on their wine and spa package. I let the reservations girl know ahead of time and they were awesome about helping me set the mood with a complementary upgrade to a suite, a bottle of champagne, and some chocolate covered strawberries in our room. The package also included massages for two (which were fantastic) and free tastings for two at several wineries in the area.
They also do complementary breakfast each morning in their restaruant. No, not bagels and muffins, I'm talking about a REAL breakfast where you sit down and order a full meal from a menu. They had REALLY good eggs benedict.
The staff was absolutely fabulous all the way around including taking care of reservations for us for dinner and making great suggestions about wineries and restaurants.
The hotel's location is perfect! Los Olivos has a neat little downtown (although everything does shut down around 8 or 9) and is right in the middle of some of the greatest wine tasting in California.
The downsides...
The rooms are dated (think of your grandma's bedroom when you were a kid). For the price, I would expect them to keep things a bit more up-to-date.
The cleaning staff seemed to be in our room three times a day and didn't quite understand the privacy sign on the door because they knocked to check for occupancy anywyas.
Best of the larger Inn's in Santa Ynez. They were dog friendly back in the day, but from what I hear that has been abandoned due to complaints...bummer!
My room here was large for a B&B style place. I really enjoyed the backyard where you can sit and read a book in solitude. It's centrally located so you can walk around the shops and restaurants in this very under-estimated little part of the Santa Barbara vicinity.
My folks came into town this past weekend and during their stay in Los Angeles, we decided to take a little road trip to wine country.
After a whirlwind tour of Santa Barbara, we headed into the mountains to a little town called Los Olivos and stumbled upon this lovely little inn. I'd heard good things about the Los Olivos Cafe but seeing that there was a line out the door (for lunch!) we opted for the not so crowded patio that the Fess Parker Inn had to offer. Overall the service was a little slow but everything else was just perfect.
I sipped a delicious Pinot Noir and people watched while waiting for our food. Los Olivos is very lively on a Saturday afternoon!
First course was a very tasty crab cake. Lots of juicy crab meat and not overloaded with breading. Matched with a vibrant beet sauce.
Next for me was the BBQ Salmon. My god was it good. The BBQ sauce was amazing and the fillet was cooked to perfection. I cleaned my plate!! My dad loved his Kobe burger and my mom wasn't thrilled with her duck salad...I guess the taste and texture of the duck reminded her of chicken liver. I don't know.
All in all, a very pleasant 1st experience in wine country!
Yep...5 stars! Not necessarily for the wine but for the winery and Davy Crockett...uhhh...Daniel Boone...I mean Fess Parker. He is often at the winery and he has to be one of the most nicest people I have ever met. He loves to talk to everyone too.
Try some of the Syrahs!
So, my sister and I are not ones to spoil ourselves but we did when we went on a little road trip to Solvang/Los Olivos. After talking about going to Napa for the weekend, we decided to stay somewhat local (bout an hour and half to 2 hour drive from us) and go to Solvang/Los Olivos. We knew we wanted to stay over night but we didn't decide where at until we arrived at Fess Parker Inn & Spa. We called the concierge, and they gave us a room for $315 for the night (not cheap but better than the $415 they charge on Fri. night).
We went for it and our stay was lovely! We got a king size bed, with a fireplace (you flip a switch and it's on), big bathroom, free wifi, complimentary small bottle of Fess Parker wine, 2 free wine tastings, and free breakfast in their restaurant. Only a half an hour or so after we arrived, they brought us fresh baked chocolate chip cookies...just because. We were in heaven. The staff was nice, and on Friday nights they show Noir films on their patio. I was bummed the we missed "It happened One Night" but we did catch "Citizen Cane." Awesome! The winery was great also!
Now let's talk about the RESTAURANT---
PRICEY BUT AMAZING...honestly one of the best meals I have had. Clearly, it was quality food. Because it was Friday (noir movie night) they had a special menu aside from their normal menu. These special menus change every Friday because they are paired and themed with the feature that they are showing that night. They also serve hors d'oeuvers before the movie. These were small candied and chocolate covered apples (apples freshly picked by the nearby apple crops), deviled eggs (that had a curry flavor), and some meaty, maybe teriyaki chicken skewers. We ordered lobster crepes to start, and I had the Chilean Sea Bass. My sister had the Salmon (comes with lentils). Both were perfectly cooked and so fresh. Then for dessert, we had a chocolate mousse with fresh berries and flower petals (tasted like coconut). What a fabulous meal. The only vegetarian option they had was a ravioli, and maybe a salad but I am sure they could cater to your needs. Thankfully, I eat fish on occasion.
Breakfast was good also. It was free with our stay, but there was no buffet or anything like that. You can order anything off the menu. At the end of your meal they just ask if you are staying with them and if you are, the food is free.
Perfect location. Rooms are just rooms but location, location, location. Los Olivos is a wonderful weekend spot if you love wine and food and Fess Parker is the only hotel on the street.
The rooms are in desperate need of renovation! But, location is great.
The appearance of this inn/spa looked great, I only experienced their restaurant. service stunk. waiting 10 min to find someone who could refill my water glass when i'm hungover because of the previous night at the los olivos cafe was brutal. but, the duck salad was quite good... darn it.
