This semiformal restaurant is great for adults, not so great for kids althought they have a good kids meal its a little pricy for the under 12 crowd. My kids did lover their meal and the sunday the waiters made them but I normally dont spend that much money for pasta on my kids, sushi yes, pasta no.
Delicious food, great atmosphere...everything is pleasant about this place. I had the penne pasta with meat sauce and the filet mignon. Both delicious :)

What restaurant still serves escolar? Apparently Ferrantelli does.
For those that are not familiar with escolar, it has also been called the "ex lax fish." Yes, apparently this fish contains oils that cannot be absorbed by the human body and so your body ends up eliminating them rapidly just like any other kind of roughage, ie think of a laxative!
Of course each body is different but when my co-workers told our table about the fish (after most of us devoured more than half of it), we quickly lost our appetite. Luckily none of us were sick the next day but I guess there have been cases of other folks getting really sick from escolar.
The co-workers at my table that didn't order the escolar, sampled the steak and the chicken. Both were mediocre. All in all, I think this place is very average. I wouldn't recommend a company dinner here.
Ferrantelli's has comfort food! Wonderful pastas with fresh tomatoes and basil, portabella mushrooms as thick as steaks, fresh seafood and yummy chianti! The outdoor patio with the fire pit looking out towards Dana Point Harbor is really nice, and the indoor decor reminds you of "old world" Italy. Reasonably priced and very friendly staff. A very nice evening out.
