I booked a stay and then read the reviews (backwards, I know).  I wasn't optimistic after reading most of the reviews so I took my own towels, sheets, etc... Just came back from a weekend at Fernwood Villas 2/5/12. I can only speak about villa 1532.  It was very clean, neat, and nothing was broken. Yes, it was a bit dated but was fine.  How many of you redo your whole house every decade???  It was perfect for 2 couples (1 bed room on lower level, kitchen & living/ding on main floor, and 2 bedroom on upper level).  Perfect for privacy!!! Plus there were pull out couches if you want to squeeze more people or kids in. Get there at 4 pm to check-in and request room # 1532.  Maybe the best rooms go first!!!! You won't be disappointed!!!  I would go back. It's 5 minutes from Shawnee mountains (ski & tubing) and plenty of inexpensive restaurants down the street.

    9/5/2011 1 Check-in Here

This place is the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. My girlfriend and I wanted a nice relaxing romantice getaway from our hectic lives and it was anything but. First we got there around 4:30 pm and check in time is 4pm. The guy at the front desk said our room wasn't ready it would be 10-15 mins more. So we walked around the hotel area for a bit. Went back 20 mins later to have a different person tell us the room still wasn't ready. I had her call housekeeping to see if the room was cleaned yet, which it was, but apparently the head of housekeeping needs to change it in the computer for people to be checked into that room. The lady told us she didn't know how long it would take. No one offered to give us a brochure of things to do around the area while we waited. We went back close to 6pm for them to say the room still wasn't available and housekeeping left for the day. I was livid, the relaxing romantic getaway went right through the window the first hour and a half we were there. I told them they find a way to get us into our room or we are getting a refund and leaving. One of the guys talked to somebody and was able to check us in. We got our keys and our stuff out of the car went to use our key to open the door, didn't work. Had to go back to the front desk for them to reactivate it. Finally got into our room, huge king size bed (very hard and uncomfortable), there was a tube tv with dvd/vhs player, bathroom that had mold in the corners near the shower, a heart jacuzzi tub that the motor blewout when we tried to use it, and a sauna that wasn't much of a sauna. The next day we went out and did some stuff, Bushkill Falls was amazing! We came back to the room to relax before we went out again when 2 different couples were able to use their cards to get into our room. This is so unsafe, what if we weren't there?! We called down to the front desk they told us to go get our cards reactivated. When I got there the guy told me that this couldn't have happened and that no guest could have been able to get in. Well they did and I didn't appreciate being called a liar. When I got back to the room I called the Manager/Supervisor that was on that day, which I had to wait 10 minutes for them to get on the phone, as I was telling her about our experience she cut me off. That is so rude for people to do. I told her I wanted a refund and that we were going to check out and never come back again. Also there was no customer service at all. A busy weekend such as Labor day weekend hotels and their employees need to be at the top of their game and this place definitely wasn't. We got the EZ card, since we have never been there we had no idea what we could use it for, the people at the front desk never told us, I had to ask. Also there is a shuttle that we never knew about we were driving places we wanted to go. To top it all off, my girlfriend and I felt like we were in the middle of the ghetto.

I am sure there are other resorts/hotels in the Pocono area that are way better than this place. This hotel is not worth what they are charging. All in all I wouldn't give this hotel less than 1 star, like 1/8 of a star maybe even less.

Can I give  less than 1 star?????

This place was repulsive.  Circa 1992 decor w/faded flowered bedspreads and matching curtains.  Stains on the carpet...no bed ruffles.  Sheets that felt like attic insulation and pillows that were flat as a pancake.  Rooms are NOT relaxing to sleep in.  This is a place to pass out in, after you had way too much to drink at a bar.  The parking lot at night looks like a scene out of the Soprano's b4 a 'hit' takes place.  We had made reservations for 2 nights....but stayed for only one.

We stayed in the hotel...maybe the villas are nicer.

If I could give this resort no stars I would. I recently booked a villa to celebrate my 30th birthday with some friends and family, to start the lady who took my reservation info was rude. She asked about 50 questions and made it seem as if we did not bring residency proofs and all kinds of othe information we would be turned away when we arrived. Needless to say when we checked  in did not need any of the requested in formation. Additionally when we did check in this was the slowest process ever. The guy checking us in was being asked several different questions by his coworkers and had to keep asking us to wait a minute before he could finally finish with us. Once we checked in and went to our villa we had 3 room keys and none of them worked. finally after about 5 minutes one worked and the green light went on but you had to keep putting the card in for about 5 more times before the door would open. None of the other cards worked the entire 3 days we were there. I will say the villa was nice and spacious. The resort also offered a start up kit with dishwasher soap, tissue and paper towel etc... The biggest issues i had with the resort were customer service related issues. First we had to go to a presentation, in the parking lot on the way to the presentation several people fell in the parking lot because no salt was put down after a night of snow. One man fell completely on his back, it looked as if it was something from a movie. One older woman fell and her knee was busted and bleeding. Her pants were even ripped from falling. Once she came in and told the service desk they were not helpful and told her welcome to the Poconos. Another man fell and went to tell the service desk and was told to go sit down. It took about 20 minutes for them to even have someone go outside and salt the walkways. In addition a snow plow driving through the parking lot hit 4 cars and no one from the resort staff made an anouncement to notify people their vehicles were involved in an accident. Especially since all the vehicles in the parking lot were for people located within the same room. Then the resort security took your information and told you to just let you insurance companies handle it. The offered no comps or apologies for the fact that their snow plow truck took out four cars. The first car had the entire front of the vehicle ripped off!  No one offered any type of compensation and still required us to finish the meeting or be charged $750.00. They could of atleast offered snowtubing passes or something. This resort  has horrible customer service and should shut down and regroup. Their is no reason to pay money and be treated this way. I would never stay here again.

The decor is kinda dated and I have a hard time keeping the temperature even in my suite.  The staff is professional though, and respond quickly to every need.

Little shopping in the area.  You need a car if you want to get away, but they have a shuttle that will take you to shopping about 7 miles away about two or three times a week.

Karaoke on the weekends.  Friday night is kinda mellow in the Trolley stop.  Too mellow.  Saturday night at the other bar is better, but can probably only get one song a night as there are 3 KJs and they like to each sing their own songs at the beginning of every cycle including some 15 minute song about baseball or something like that.

Nice enough resort, I've read a lot of mixed reviews on other sites and I think I know why. The whole resort is huge, there are hundreds of townhouses and even just a regular hotel. Some of the townhouses are quite old and look it, mostly in the lower 1000s but if you go up to the 6000s and the 1600s they are really nice. So when you book just ask when your building was built or tell them you want a new one.

There is a giant hill for snowsledding that has a cable that will pull you up the hill. The cost is a bit much for my taste 25$ on weekends but if you can buy an annual pass for it for about $100.

There is also horseback riding and canoeing. On site there is a pub see my review: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
There is also a diner, a fancy italian restaurant, a cinnabon, tiny pizza hut and a ice cream store.

There are always all kinds of family activities and a bunch of pools some indoors and some outdoors.

We stayed here for 3 days, and I loved the house.
Two bedrooms in the basement, a living room and a kitchen on the 1st floor, 2 beds on the 2nd floor.

    My complaints?
    - Housekeeper doesn't come daily unless you call the front desk daily and pay additional fee.
    - Coffee machine exists but no coffee offered. Come on, I need coffee!!
    - There is no restaurant or stores in the area. So boring..

A good place for a romantic getaway on a budget.

We had both an in-room jacuzzi tub & sauna. Room was clean and a good size, but with dated decor. There is a great gym on premises. MUCH better than typical hotel gym closets! Also a massive game room. Our jacuzzi wouldn't turn on the first time we used it and the front de\sk had someone fix it within 5 minutes.

The restaurants at Fernwood are limited - typical unhealthy / Standard American Diet type of fare. Restaurants that offer healthy food and vegan selections are diifficult to find in the area.

    I would go back again.

I stayed here as part of a week-long training camp, apparently early March is part of their "off" season as it was practically a ghost town during the weekdays.  Families started trickling in on Friday afternoon, and it was especially busy on Saturday (it looked like they were doing some sort of vacation time-share promotion that weekend).  I spent seven days at a 1000-level villa, the buildings in that area seem to be badly in need of updating - they have a very worn 1970s-era decor and the bath tile, carpeting, and appliances were quite shabby.  But in spite of all that, the accomodations were tolerably comfortable, with full kitchen and enough room to spread out a little bit.  Due to a cancelled flight I had to rent an extra day at a 6000-level villa, that was a bit nicer.  They also have cheaper hotel-style accomodations, but the villas seem to be the way to go - my extra night cost me only $109 after tax & AAA discount, not bad for a two-level, 1BR townhouse.

I understand that summer is their "high" season, rates jump at the end of spring and there's a lot more "outdoorsy" things to do such as horseback riding, golf, and canoeing.

I stayed here over New Years Eve, for their "Slamin' New Years Eve" party. First, the room was designated non-smoking and it was sickeningly smokey. The hot and cold settings on the water were reversed and there was mold growing on the ceiling. The room next door was the same exact way, I looked.

The party was a mix crowd and it had a band and it was good. The food was not good though. They actually served room temperature tuna tartare. They had a huge arcade and snow tubing across the street, both were very nice.

I was going to complain but I didn't want a free night nor did I think I could switch rooms and get anything better.

Unless you hear they radically changed the place, I would stay away.
