I just joined this club this week and like it very much so far. It's small, but fits everything I need for my workout routines. It's not a posh place, but it is also not very crowed. They offer free classes at lunch time daily, but I have not made it to one yet.
The enrollment fee is typically $50, but I got a discount special this month for $25. I understand they typically have a promotion at the end of the year for free enrollment, but I missed it. No biggie.
I recommend this place.
Other perks:
-unlimited free towels
-toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash)
-hairdryers
-free lockers
-friendly and helpful staff
-new nice tvs with sound at the cardio machines
-not very busy in the morning or afternoon (lunch is the peak, but not crazy) -

Not bad, not great. It's located inside the Federal building, so you have to go through security if you don't work in the building.
Best part: music. 90s R&B/soul! You will never hear as much Digital Underground in your daily life as you do here. Friday night got funkier with Jill Scott and The Streets.
Likes: free towels and about 10 showers on the ladies side. About a jillion weight machines. I mean, machines I've never seen before, like this torso-twisty machine. For the amateur discus throwers out there? Who knows. Sadly, with all the niche devices, it had no back extension machine. Crazy.
It was also refreshingly un-full for January.
Also, randomly, a ping-pong table.
Worst part: so far, laundry service has lost my socks and my underpants. Repeat: my underpants! I've taken to tying a knot in the bag to be safe.
Dislikes: sq footage of the free weight area is on the dinky side, but I haven't felt crowded out. No TVs, so your eyes wander with no place to land, much like sitting on Muni with those seats that face each other.
Also, the wealth of government employees with job security means a lack of lockers to rent. The one I was able to get is a dinky one on the bottom row of a bank of lockers OUTSIDE the locker room.
If I had another gym in the area to consider, I would, but there aren't any. But, the staff is nice and it gets the job done. -

Like sugar b., I work in the same building as this Club One and if it wasn't for the convenient location, I'd be a 350 lb. cubicle monster. Thankfully though redemption from all the sins of the holidays is just an elevator's ride away for me.
For those of you in the Tenderloin or Civic Center area for Barry Bonds-esque legal proceedings, to buy crack, or to attend Gavin's second marriage in 2 terms, you can't beat this location at 450 Golden Gate either. Close to public transportation and hot spots like City Hall, the Asian Art Museum, and the SF library's main branch there's no excuse not to stop by to attend one of the many fitness classes or to test your skills against one of the resident ping pong all stars.
"But I am not looking to become meathead." No worries. I think the best thing about this Club One location is the diversity. From the patrons to the staff you'll see people of different backgrounds, fitness levels, and personalities basking in a unique harmony. It's not the 49'ers training facility, rather a temple for the common dude/dudette.
My 1 complaint about the facility, given that I've accepted certain flaws because it is a Federal Building after all, is that the bathrooms need some kind of ventilation system. Unless I've been locked up in prison or time traveled back to my fraternity days, I shouldn't have to marinate in the odor of another man's fesces... enough said! -

Since my "home" gym is Bakar Fitness (a facility that pretty much dusts this one), it does seem odd that I give Club One Fed a similar four-star rating. But it's reasonably cheap, it's right near work, and the classes are really very good. I particularly like the yoga and the pilates mat classes. Climbing wall (like Bakar)?: nyet. Outdoor pool (or even indoor)?: no. But it's better than just fine. It's really quite good for a work-out in the Civic Center area.

Loving the unlimited towels and toiletries, friendly staff, james the kb instructor and robert the masseur. And the fact that it's in the building I work in. However, some of the cardio and weight machines could be updated and some of the suplies need to be replaced like the foam mats and foam rollers.

BAZOOKA JOE sais that this club is allright. The staff treats you well. If you where treated bad I believe you. I was not. Granted I'm used to clubs that make this look like a corner liquior store in the tenderloin. I'm very populer and sought after so I have to hide somewhere sometimes. If your looking for babes go to Ballys. Not even The Elite clubs I have been to THat are superior in any way to these Club ONe type clubs Have atractive women as a whole. Anyway I go to work out and be unnoticed. I will not mention the other clubs I belong to and ther afilliates that I have visited...so as to keep my secret identity secret. The only times beautifull women where at these clubs where when they where brought in by me. some of these clubs have A 5% beautifull women average. Balleys has A 20%. Again I will not mention the other clubs I belong to. The only way you can spot me is if you can't stop staring(thats me)if you can see me. I usually am stealth in my good looks. The Fairmont hotel has a clubone it's not bad but it's not 'FAIRMONT'.
