My first purposeful vintage shopping outing...

Feathers was the highlight of the 4 or 5 stores we explored. Beautiful clothes (all different decades), fabulous boots (mostly tiny sizes--WHY don't I have size 6 or 6.5 feet!?).

Although a lot of the GORGEOUS pieces were high dollar--there were definitely still items priced in the affordable range as well. You can tell that the owner/buyer really cares about the merchandise she gets in. They even had a stunning dress made by Marilyn Monroe's dressmaker...niiice

Staff were not so friendly. They had their moments of kindness and were great w/ helping get a fitting room. At one point I took a dress up to the front w/ a broken zipper and was blamed for breaking it. hmm. or not? I told them that that was how I found it, was then given a snide remark on how they never carry broken or malfunctioning items and was I SURE I didn't break it. That just kind of turned the visit sour.

I want to come back when it's just me and I have time to browse and enjoy. Maybe buy that killer dress I tried on too if it's still there...

Pricey, but fabulous... and the whole store always smells like cinnamon!  If you ordinarily don't like the idea of used clothing, this may be the place for you to begin your exploration of Austin vintage and thrift.

I absolutely love to come here and look.  Would give it higher ratings if it weren't for the high prices and the staff, which tends to be slightly less friendly than the average Austinite.

However, this is THE spot in town for vintage designer.  They don't stock huge variety in terms of sizes, but everything in this boutique is usually chic, adorable, and oh-so-much fun.  I like to come here and comb the racks for the rare bargain (i dare to dream) or to splurge on an accessory that will make my thrift store finds really shine.  Definitely check out the belt collection--it's always fantastic and usually a little more reasonably priced.  The jewelry rocks too. And don't miss the classic old-school Playboy magazines for some peek-a-boo coffee table scandal.

My favorite shop in Austin. Don't miss it. I always check it out when I visit.

Why? Hand selected vintage clothes at reasonable prices.

I love the styles and the amount of clothes the store displays at one time. Most other vintage clothing shops cram tons of racks in the space, but this boutique layout makes it much easier to appreciate their great finds.

I met one of the Project Runway stars in town for fashion week here. I'll have to post that picture. Super Fun!

Scored a lovely Lillie Rubin white maxi dress with red and blue polka dots for $48! Very Marni-esque.

Funky jewelry and accessories. Should have gotten that amazing feather (real feathers, mind you, and not some putrid neon color) boa. Stupid, stupid!

I hadn't gotten into vintage clothing until I stepped foot in this store! One of my Austin friends was always ranting about it and finally got me to go one day! I was oh so happy they convinced me to go!~

They have am zing pieces with amazing price tags!
--Around $50 for real fur coats-what a steal!
Great jewelry, dress, scarves, etc..

You can spend some great quality time here-never walking out empty handed!

I love it,love it, love it!

I still haven't found a vintage shop quite like it!~oh and the clerks are super friendly!!

Best vintage boutique in Austin.  Hands down!

The owner has an incredible eye for vintage.  I find something there every time I stop in, and she gets new stuff in often.  I'm surprised at the review of the "scowling" service person....the owner has always been really nice and helpful every time I've been in.  I actually like her a lot.

Don't pass this place up.  And make sure to check out the jewelry counters, because there is some awesome jewelry! Also, don't miss the sale rack in the back by the fitting rooms.  This place has been featured in Lucky (and I think a few other magazines), and rightfully so.  It's not overpriced for quality, hand-picked vintage.  You're sure to find something you love!

Every time I head down South Congress I have to stop into Feathers. And even when I think I'm going in to just "look around" I tend to leave with a new bag full of cute vintage dresses, tops, and accessories, without spending too much money. I love how the shop is set up into a few rooms, because after looking through one room, there is another one waiting for me, and another one after that! So many of my favorite staple clothing pieces came from Feathers, I love this place. All the best in retro fashion.

I went on a vintage prowl with my little sister today. It's hard to review vintage stores since I tend to favor places where I find things I like and as I always say, with vintage it's always hit or miss.

One thing I can comment on is that it really ruins the experience when the service person has a permanent scowl on her face. Maybe I'm asking too much, but I generally like talking to customer service people who like their jobs. It could be I'm nit picky, but considering that I've been to 6 vintage stores today and that attitude is the only memorable wart on my ass - maybe I'm not so nit picky, or everyone else just likes their jobs.

Now on to the clothes. They were Ok. The shoes were arranged nicely so it wouldn't be that much of a scavenger hunt. That's about all I can remember. Things were moderately priced in the $20-$40 of what I looked at. They have a sale section consisting of things $5-$8.

Finally, a vintage shop that isn't just an overpriced thrift store!

I love the taste of their buyers, and am always beside myself when I go in and like everything on the rack (as opposed to the usual vintage catastrophes where you're going through rack after rack of undesirables to find a gem).

Prices are fair, selection is great, 4 stars.

I feel like "meeh" about this place. I did enjoy looking at everything but didnt buy anything. As far as "Vintage Boutiques" go this one is typical and has nothing out too special about it, even though I would probably still check it out next time i am in town. The prices were okay, not awesome, but okay a Anna Sui dress was like $40, and shoes were like $30+. The lady in the store when I went in was nice but not too welcoming? I didn't know she was the worker until after I tried something on and saw her behind the counter.

If you do not appreciate vintage you will not appreciate Feathers.

I found ridiculous and beautiful things in this place, I can just spend hours and hours browsing through this shop as if this is a museum except you can really buy them and call it your own.

The jewelry is a steal if you can untangle them.

I bought an evening short dress and a pair of shoes that look brand new but needed some extra glue to hold it together. Still, I love the shoes!

I dig this boutique. I don't come often since it's a bit of a drive for me, but whenever I am in the SoCo area - I do like to drop by.

First, you have to be into vintage. Second, you have to be prepared to shell out some $$$. Third, if you like the item - buy it! Cause it might not be there the next time you go back.

Case in point - they had these great necklaces displayed at the cashier counter. I fell in love with this owl one. I talked myself out of it - since the last thing I need is another accessory. The bad thing is that I kept thinking about this necklace during my trek to other vintage shops around town...by the time I made it back to Feathers - it was gone. Bummer.

I've pretty much been a window shopper - haven't bought anything yet. That doesn't mean I don't think the items aren't cute - cause they are. Just haven't found anything my size. Case in point - stumbled on this really cute pea coat. Definitely different, but it was too large. Bummer.

Great variety - take your time in this place. Never know what you'll find.

Oh my! This is my favorite stop on South Congress, and my favorite vintage store in the city. The organization is perfect, and the buying is totally on point. The selection of boots and shoes leaves me drooling, and if you are looking to consign a piece you have hanging in your closet they'll give you a fair deal. Feathers makes me love being a girl.

I am constantly complaining about the direction that vintage has gone in Austin.  Everything is picked over and over-priced.  But Feathers has managed to curate a spectacular  collection that is not all a size 0 and is fairly priced for the quality.  We need more places like this.

Serious props to feathers. The bars on the door don't give it away to be the really awesome vintage clothing store that it is.

As mentioned before everything is colored coded, the items look like they were hand picked. High quality, flattering, interesting cuts.

( I found out later that this is a store that works on consignment. My friend Jen gets all of her clothes from this store, and now I know why!)

I bought a dress. A beautiful 50's housewife style dress with an awesome neckline and a red cinch belt. It almost fits and I bought it anyways.

I paid 24 for the dress and 12 for the belt and did not feel guilty. Not one bit.

Its hard to find, but you'll be glad you found it when you do.

I try to stay away from this place as much as possible and it's not because of the incense wafting in from Mi Casa next door.  I have to practice entirely way too much self-restraint in Feathers.  Their vintage offerings are the cream of the crop, they rise to the top, I never eat a pig because a pig is a....you get the drift.

And the place is organized.  To sum it up, you feel like you are shopping in a chic, ultra-hip exclusive store where you can actually afford things!  And not a million thousand people will be wearing it!  Thank you ladies for your wonderful store!  LYLAS!

The owners of this store know exactly what kind of woman they're shopping for: cool, confident and sexy. Of course, Feathers carries mostly '70s and '80s vintage clothing, from dresses to elastic belts to pewter belt buckles to owl jewelry (!) to sparkly, acrylic sweaters - and TONS of shoes and tall boots. I have honestly never seen so many cool vintage boots in one place, except a few boutiques in New York.
I bought a very cute navy and yellow, Indonesian batik (I don't know if it's real or manufactured), sleevless dress. It skims by body oh-so-flatteringly and it was only $30. Actually, that's $5 more than I'd be willing to pay but I'm sure the rent in SoCo is fantastically horrific.

I accidentally wandered in there through (literally) Mi Casa - it was like finding a secret room in an old mansion.  Unfortunately, I was on a budget, and the clothing and shoes on the $5-and-under rack were there for a reason.  Why can't I ever get a Gunne Sax skirt for $5?  The prices were boutiquey, but not outrageously so.  I could have bought that Gunne Sax skirt for the $30 it was marked at and not have felt too guilty.

There were a couple of things I found unique about this shop: the clothing is all separated by color, which is a wonderful thing for an OCD shopper.  Also, they sold recycled notebooks made out of old books:   the small ones were $12, the larger ones $15.  Cool gift items!

I'll just have to go back and see if that Gunne Sax skirt made it to the clearance rack.

Yelpers you let me down ;(
I was so excited about this place after reading all these rave reviews just to find out that this is another mumu and cowboy shirt heaven like every other vintage "boutique" I've been running into.

But I did find the only 5$ item in the store and bought it, a way cute green shirt!
Tons of owl jewellery, why are owls an "it" item now?
Oh well.

Be prepared to park at least four blocks away.

This little gem is one I return to whenever I can...there's alway something unique I can't leave without.  I like their taste in color, textured interesting fabrics and great accessories.  Even though there is quite a feel of 70s and 80s boho, these pieces can easily be coordinated without feeling like you are dressing from another era...love Feathers.

As a tried and true New Yorker, I can't help but drool everything I think about the delectable vintage offerings at Feathers.  I chanced upon this adorable consignment shop last month during a weekend Austin trip.  (btw, it's HOT there!  sheesh.)  The owners go on weekly driving trips around the area, scooping out yard/garage/estate sales.  And do they ever find the coolest stuff!  The selection is varied, the store is well lit and coordinated by color.  And the prices, oh goodness the LOW prices downright shocked me into buying the goregous 50's kitschy cream dress I was holding in my hand.  :)

I might move to Austin just cause of Feathers. Just got back from Austin after a fabulous weekend. Came in on Thursday for the wedding weekend. Friday was shopping day and Feathers was the jackpot. Great taste, great prices, excellent display of merchandise and best of all I walked out with a rocking outfit.

Feathers has the most modern interpretation of what women are currently looking for in vintage and designer clothing. The owners, Emily and Masha, both come from several years' experience of buying vintage and resale clothing, so they have an eye for quality and style (no broken zippers here!). They search ebay, travel across Texas and New York digging through thriftstore racks, and consign from some of the most fashionable folks in town to create a substantial collection of unique finds. On my last trip in, I tried on outrageous 5 inch Vivienne Westwood heels, a red and white polka dotted sundress, and a kelly green diane von furstenburg blouse. I left with a rust colored 60's mod style handbag. The selection of items always makes me smile, even though I might not wear them (lace Hammer pants? someone wear these to the beauty bar please). Feathers is perfect for those willing to spend a little more to have the selection narrowed down to the best items.

I have never had so much luck in one place. I wanted to get something quirky to wear to my college graduation and this was the place. I ended up looking like Barbara Stanwick at her ranch house in the '40s, complete with dress and boots. It was seriously a dream come true, all for under $100! Feathers is decently priced, has a variety of sizes, and a great little collection.

During my shopping today, Feathers was my unlucky day's one lucky moment. Out of the three pieces of clothing I bought today, two were from Feathers. I tried on several awesome things that I loved but didn't fit me. The staff was friendly and not overbearing, and the prices were reasonable. This store is the best vintage store I have been to in Austin. I had to park a couple of blocks away, but it was worth the walk.
