A friend invited me out to lunch. I don't really DO hot dogs, but a free lunch is a free lunch. So, I ordered the veggie dog.
I am of the opinion that hot dogs are mainly vehicles for condiments. Yes, I like the ketchup and the Russian mustard, and onions (because its my hot gay friend taking me to lunch and there is very little chance that there will be any smooching), but I feel like something is missing.
Why oh why don't they offer sauerkraut? That is all that is needed.
"Hey Fat Dog- Sauerkraut is needed! Nay ---DEMANDED"

I live kinda close to Rosamunde, but I work really close to Fatt Dog. One day, I was wandering around the Financial District at lunchtime, wondering what would hit the spot. When I saw the Fatt Dog, I thought, "Hey, I haven't had a chili dog in forever."
There's no seating at this place, so you're either headed back to your office or you're eating on the go. I'm not talented enough to walk and eat a chili dog at the same time, so it was back to the office for me.
The frankfurter was not fat, but it was tasty. The casing didn't have the snap of some others I've tried, but it's still worthwhile. The chili was pretty good, and the bun was really a roll. Their lunch deals involve a dog, a bag of chips, and a fountain drink - not a bad deal. I had wondered why one of the specials featured a double dog, but after eating a single, I could see the need. On a future visit, I'll probably try another type of sausage, but Fatt Dog's now in the lunch rotation.

They have a small store front--practically only two counters: One to order, and the other for condiments. With a line, you're forced to wait outside while your food is prepared. I wish there was more fatt in my dog portion-wise, but $5 for a dog and fries that weren't half bad, I guess you really can't complain. It certainly hits the spot when you want that "fast food" fix. Service was quick and the cashier was pleasant, despite being noticeably bogged down by all the order taking. The staff do some great multi-tasking to pump out your food quickly and efficiently.

Hot juicy meat that squirts hot juicy streams of goodness into your mouth.
Lemon Chicken...mmm.
A very decided second to Top Dog.

Super Good. The chicken & garlic is delicious. The girls that work there also seem to not hate their jobs like a significant portion of the food service staff in the FiDi. $5 dog & a drink. Keep in mind there is no seating! It's just basically a stand.

Got a kielbasa and fries today. Tried to get a lemonade but they ran out (drats!). Wait wasn't that bad. The kielbasa was on the thin side. Come on, a Costco dog is plumper than this! Fries were ok. Not sure if I'd come back. The whole meal costs me $7!?!? That's a lot for a dog considering it's slightly cheaper at Costco!

When I want to be a fat-ass and have a great hot dog or chili-cheese fries for lunch, I go here. Fatt Dog. That said, everything here tastes great. It's small, fast, and close to where I work. The kosher all-beef dogs are awesome, and so are all of their gourmet sausage offerings. Prices are very reasonable, so sometimes I'll splurge and get a lemonade. One of my favorite parts about this shop is their commitment to condiments. A place like this, that understands the importance of a great selection of condiments, is a very good thing. Some interesting items include curry ketchup, and spicy Russian mustard. Plus you really feel important and city-like eating a hot dog on the street. "HEY!! I don't got no fuckin' time, to sit in no fuckin' restaurant!" Fatt Dog is where it's at!

Fatt Dog takes their dogs seriously. This is the only place I've ever seen that has a comprehensive menu of their offerings - they actually tell you the difference between a Kielbasa, and a Frankfurter, and a Bratwurst.
Who knew? Oh, wait, now I do!
If you're not a fan of the dog you should still at least give this place a looksie. They have veggie dogs, multiple types of chicken dogs, and even a turkey dog.
It's enough to make a hot dog a viable meal option.

One day when I was craving a hot dog for lunch, my fairy godmother planted one right on the corner of my street at work. So, I rushed over there, ordered myself a Sante Fe Bird (turkey) Dog, and piled on the relish and ketchup. Every time I go there, I feel a little awkward loitering around the corner waiting for my hot dog all exposed in the FiDi like that. Good thing is it's never a very long wait. Granted it's not the best hot dog I've ever had, but it will do just the trick for a quick hot dog fix.
The calabrese was almost up to my Top Dog standards I was hoping for but was definitely one million times better than the corndogs I've gotten from the Safeway up the road. And since I had 5 minutes to grab lunch, chow down and catch Muni, who can complain? Nice clean condiments area, counter dudes are friendly and quick on the grill, toaste bun and no excess packaging here. Just a wax paper to wrap up my hot, toasty dog. And no line at 12:45 on a Thursday afternoon! $3.25 seems like a lot to pay for a hot dog. But to get lunch in the FiDi for under $5? That's awesome.
I'll be back soon to review the corndogs! and the hot link.
On my way to What's up Dog, I saw this place and upon inspecting the prices and seeing them comparable, decided to give them a shot. I think I like FD a little better. Got the standard Kosher dog. Bun is top quality and though the dog extended too far in length past the ends of the bun which bothered me at first, it actually was sort of nice to get 2 bites in which I got an extra dog-to-bun ratio in my mouth. Fries were good, but as they pack them in a closed container they got a bit soggy, even after a 5 minute transportation, so I'd suggest opening the box to give them air. In all, it was a nice lunch for $5.25. Small place, no seating, quick service, takes credit cards if needed, I noticed
i found it interesting that the fatt dog dog is noticably skinny. tiny place. no seating. this is basically the world's most immobile hot dog cart. tasty enough and cheap enough. hotdog and a coke for exactly $5.

I just happened upon this place for the first time about 30 minutes ago, and it's just what the doctor ordered for a Financial District that's starving for a quality hot dog joint. Opting to keep it in the middle of the fairway with my first order, I forewent the calabrese and opted instead for the all-beef, Kosher, New York-style Fatt Dog, which was most choice. The toasted bun (which I didn't even have to specifically request) was an added bonus. The fries were also solid. All in all, the best $7 I've spent on lunch in quite some time. I'll be back soon and often.
Back when I worked downtown we in the office, periodically, would crave a good 'dog.
First, one of the most important ingredients for us is the chili. So far, we'd tried a couple of the FiDi options and been less than impressed with the chili-fare. Today, we were so happy to get a great chili cheese fries treat! The guys had a Chicago dog, a Fatt dog and a couple of us got the corn dogs. Terrific all around.
Thanks guys!
I've practically tripped over Fatt Dog on my way to run some errand or another along Market after work, but alas this small walk-up only eatery is closed for the dinner rush. The other day I finally got a chance to sample the goods, right there is the San Francisco pseudo-Spring (Winter) sunshine next to the cream-of-the-crop of the city's bike messangers. It was fun! Nobody knew who I was or where I was (except me) as I devoured with great gusto my bratwurst (still have not met a wurst I did not like!) and fries. The dog was juicy and plump, the fries salty and crispy like the ones at the Golden Arches (admit it, you crave those fries once in a blue moon!) The packaging was minimalist , nearly all biodegradable and retro which I appreciated. The price was a steal. The speed pretty zippy. But I did have to ask the lackluster college kid behind the counter to wash his hands after I watched him out of the corner of my eye push down the trash with a gloveless hand (as I was staring at the posted notice of a great health and safety record) on the window in front of me. He took it well, but he did annoy me a bit when he could not recommend the best selling dog to me (the top dog!) and later when he could not identify why the Russian mustard was different for the other offerings. The best he could do was suggest that I try a bit to see if I liked it! Maybe the staff at FD does not get a free lunch? Education is everything!
When I moved over from Berkeley, I bemoaned the loss of my beloved top dog. Then, I found Fatt Dog. Almost as good, I must say.
And the lemonade doesn't have to be a splurge! you can get one free, with this coupon:
