I love coming to Father Nature for a quick lunch when in Oldtown Pas. My favorites are the Double Hummus, Father Nature, and Turkey Burger wraps. Everything is always very fresh and tasty. They even have fresh pickled vegetables that you can help yourself to. If you like spicy, definitely make sure to ask for the spicy tahini and check out the variety of fresh and pickled peppers at the bar.
They have a small amount of seating (maybe 8 or so tables that seat 2 people) and you order from the cashier so this isn't really much of a sit-down place. I'd definitely recommend it for a quick bite to eat or for food to go in Oldtown. Prices are very reasonable as well.
Pros:
1) The Father Nature wrap. It has all the stuff I like in it, they are pretty healthy, they're plenty big for even guy appetites, and you get to choose whether you want spicy or mild sauce.
2) It's relatively fast for lunch
3) It's in Old Town Pasadena
Cons:
1) Customer Service is less than great. I think another reviewer accurately described the dude with the glasses behind the the register as "creepy". The lady calling out the orders ready for pickup seems like she genuinely hates her life and does not mind passing that vibe off to customers as she hands them their food.
2) Seating is limited to about 6 small tables, so if you can take your food to go, do so.
So, to sum it up..
I like the food, just not being in the restaurant, so I grab my bag o' wrap and head on my merry way. There is plenty of great public outdoor seating across the street where Johnny Rockets is, so that's where I usually end up avec lavash wrap, sans restaurant weirdness.
Looking for a healthy bite that is quick and ready to go? Father Nature is your best bet. They have many choices that are "O So Tasty". I normally get a couple chicken bites and a side of hummus...nom nom nom.
Prices are affordable, service is decent, food is great...go here.
Holy black bean hummus, I'm in love. I begrudgingly have to admit that there is one food establishment that is technically located in Old Town that isn't completely rancid...or overpriced. But since it's technically on De Lacey....and not Colorado....whatever.
I'm not sure who Father is, but the burly gentleman who took my order would probably suffice. He was alarmingly helpful to my annoying needs being that I was on Phase 1 of South Beach. He was gracious enough to offer allllll kinds of substitutions for the carb items that were in the salad I ordered. I'm pretty sure I got this signature combo salad with alll chicken. The lettuce was perfectly ripe and crunchy...the balsamic dressing was pungent, tangy, and perfect. My friend got a vegetarian wrap that he said was absolutely divine. Their tahini is pretty incredible also, it goes well with chicken.
But the true star of this ship is their black bean hummus; I've never seen it anywhere else, and I've eaten alot of hummus in my day. It has the same consistency as regular hummus, but the taste is out of this world. My only gripe is that they close early, especially for Old Town...but the unpretentious-ness and high quality menu is definitely a dying breed for that part of town. Their prices a bit higher than say...Zakou, but their menu is definitely unique and product is definitely superior.
This is a little hole-in-the-wall place in Old Pasadena. I've had many a Mediterranean wrap and eaten in enough Middle Eastern joints to clog an artery or two, but this place is just so-so. I suspect they are trying to make it a bit "healthier", which leads to an incremental decline in tastiness.
We ordered a chicken wrap and had eggplant added in. There was an extra fee for this. Also got a side of falafel. The falafel was crispy and not that greasy. Unfortunately, it was cold. Flavor was mild, however, sauce gave it an extra kick. The sauce did seem watery for tahini. Weird.
The chicken wrap was a good size, but as others have noted, the outer wrap is a tad dry. There was a decent amount of chicken in there and some chicken tendon bits that I didn't like. My dining buddy liked those, so she would call that a plus. Eggplant didn't seem seasoned at all. Maybe we caught them on a bad day? I don't see what the hype is all about. It was almost $8/head and we split a wrap and didn't get drinks, so this place isn't that cheap either. Not sure if we're coming back.
I've passed by this little eatery for years, but never made it inside until today... For how commercial and semi-upscale Colorado Blvd. is, Father Nature has a refreshingly hole-in-the-wall quality to it. The interior is no-frills and the seating area a bit tight, but it's clean and sufficiently nice. We sat upstairs where there is additional seating in a loft-like space which for some reason had a blue-ish glow to it...
You order your food at the counter, where they give you a number on your receipt, then you wait for them to call your number. Yeah, like In 'N' Out...
I had the grilled eggplant wrap, which came with a little container of tahini sauce. Apparently you can request a spicy version of the tahini too. For additional hotness in your mouth, there are pepperoncinis and jalapenos at what appears to be Father Nature's take on a salsa bar.
Anyway, my order came in a little basket - kind of like the hamburgers at Island's... Except here it actually achieved that cute, homey touch. The contents of the wrap looked disappointingly plain - all I saw was like, a bunch of packed lettuce and a few slivers of tomato and eggplant. Somebody once told me looks can be deceiving, though - and this is certainly proof because it was soooooooo tasty!!! The creamy tahini sauce is definitely clutch.
I recommend the place. Simple, quick, delicious, tastes healthy too! A good, low-key place to go to with a friend, perfect for refueling while shopping!
Father Nature has tons of options for veg*ns. They've got falafels, eggplant, hummus, and other Mediterranean treats. The service is incredibly fast and parking in the De Lacey lot across the street makes it even more convenient.
The restaurant is clean, though not a lot of seating. It has an additional upstairs seating area, though I haven't gone to see it. It is a seat yourself restaurant where you order and pick up at the counter.
Food is fresh and tasty! Wraps are served in a reusable basket, but plates are served in a Styrofoam container. I really dislike the use of Styrofoam, so to see it used for dine-in service then thrown into the trash without even leaving the restaurant really bothers me.
Many people have told me that Father Nature's falafels are the best they've ever had. I'm not a falafel expert, but I also like them. They're light and crispy, but not dry and crumbly. Highly recommended if you like falafels.
Every couple of years I give this place another try. I respectfully declare that the food here is average to below average and the service is plain bad. Examples:
1. the meat is usually over cooked
2. the ratio of lavash bread to meat and/or veggies has too much bread
3. the tabouleh is very coarse. it has the texture of a prickly plant and the seasonings are harsh. plus, for almost $4 you get a very tiny portion.
5. the fries are a little too salty for me but some people like their fries salty.
I will say their humus is adequate but not great. If i was forced to eat here I'd have the neptune's catch (tuna) simply because the moisture of the tuna allows you to take a bite without causing your mouth to become parched (which happens with most of their other sandwhiches)
In regards to the service, I find the people who work here very unfriendly. They don't smile and they act as if they hate being there. This creates and environment where the patron will feel the same way.
Mother nature confuses me!
...but father nature has his s*** straight!
Yes he does! Well, how should I start? This is the place for you to have a lunch/pre-dinner while shopping on East Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena. It's located next to the 21 flavors of frozen yogurt.
Once you get in, you will see the straight to the point menu in front of you and you HAVE TO ORDER the father nature wrap or the one with chicken breast wrap. (the difference is that one has dark chicken meat, the other just breast, have tried both, and both taste adventurous)
The wrap has, except from the obvious, lettuce, tomato, pickled radish and their signature spicy tahini sauce (sesame sauce) which makes this rap very special from any other wraps. When you bite that crunchy heavenly wrap, you oral cavity is filled with the spiciness and the crunchiness of the rich flavor of the wrap.
Definitely get fries, cos they have really good fries and while waiting for your order, they have homemade pickled veggies. You gotta try them, they remind me of my mom's pickled veggies. They don't taste the typical corn syrup covered pickles that you get @ Ralphs, they are the true pickles! And of course, one of the most important ones, FALAFELS, that's a must as well. greatly seasoned with the best tasting spicy dip.
Give it a try, it's a great spicy experience.
I used to go here all the time when I was going to school at Pasadena City College. This place is one of the few non-touristy, authentic restaurants in Old Town. Plus, it has this cute garden-y upstairs seating area.
I have walked by this unassuming little eatery numerous times on my way to 21 Choices or Forever 21, and never gave it a second glance. Today, however, was different.
Meeting a friend for lunch, we wanted to go somewhere in the vicinity that was light on the tummy and the wallet, in order to save room and money for some frozen yogurt. After reading some reviews, I figured Father Nature was worth checking out finally.
It's a simple Mediteranean/wrap place that uses lavash bread for their wraps. They have plenty of vegetarian and carnivorous choices to suit customers, all of which pack a whalloping flavor punch. I opted for the Eggplant Ala Delacey wrap which had roasted eggplant, lettuce, tomato, parsley, spicy tahini and a side of mouth-watering garlic sauce. I had heard many good things about their eggplant here, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
My friend ordered a grilled chicken wrap and she seemed to really enjoy it. The wraps were warm with the lavash being freshly toasted or grilled. After eating, we didn't feel overly full or calorie-laden, which is definitely helping with those new year's resolution to be healthier.
Even though we came around lunch time, there was plenty of seating. They also had a seating area upstairs. They have condiment bar with pickles, pepperoncinis, and jalapenos to give your food a little kick.
Definitely worth checking out if in the area and wanting a healthy option for lunch.
If I lived in Pasadena, I would easily come here a couple times a month. Delicious wraps and baguette sandwiches with all sorts of good fillings. I had the eggplant snack wrap (smaller size, still very filling) and it was delicious. I love how the heated lavash is almost cracker like on the outside and then you get to the warm gooey inside with the eggplant and other goodness.
Order at the counter, then have a seat and they will call out your order. This place is small, but really cozy. One previous reviewer mentioned this place seemed, dirty, but I didn't notice that.
Father Nature wraps are very healthy yet mouth watering , i would always get a bite size eggplant wrap and it comes with a sauce or if your a customer who LOVES spice ask for the spicey sauce . The wrap has fetta cheese ,grilled eggplant and some diced tomatoes wrapped in a pitta bread wrapped . Its only 5 dollars if your wanting alittle snack or if your hungry for more try the greek salad wrap it has olives , fetta cheese , diced tomatoes , cucumbers and salt and pepper its basically a greek salad wrapped in a peta bread wrap . This wrap would feed 2 people !
Delicious wraps and healh food that I love. Great sauces, try Neptune's Catch.... Fast service.
I usually am not a big fan of wraps and was a bit hesitant to eat here mainly because it seemed little dirty but holy smoke, their "father nature" wrap was the best wrap i have ever had. (i am actually salivating right now as i am writing this review and thinking about that wrap. slurp slurp).
I would definitely go there again
for the record, it this place was a bit cleaner, i would give this place a 5 star. and did i mention that it's so freaking cheap?
"The Plate" is yummy! Rice , shwarma chicken and salad with lavish bread on the side.
And they blink!

i really like this place!
i always get the Father Nature wrap; it's delicious and nutritious!
they have such an array of tasty options....including some unhealthy ones (like fries and bakalava) if that's your thing!
the wraps sometimes can take a bit of time for them to make....but have patience!! it's worth it. I love the spicy tahini sauce and all the fixin's!
any place that has jalapenos, pepperocinis, and a homemade pickle bar is A-OK in my book!!
Check it out!
word to the wise: it gets really busy at lunch time, so go early!!

Mmmmm.. tasty lavash wraps. Pretty much the only place in Old Town you can get a made-to-order lunch for under $10. After sampling different things over the 3 years I lived in Pasadena, I've decided that the grilled eggplant wrap is my favorite. Comes with a small container of tahini sauce.
Pack some really strong gum or a toothbrush, you're going to need it after you're done eating.
I need to start listening to the little Israeli voice in my head that says 'order the falafel' and stop trying to be creative. Because I'm usually disappointed when I order anything else at casual Middle Eastern spots. I wish I knew of a good place for something else but the bottom line is that even when bad, falafel is still pretty tasty and since I have not yet been shown a place that can deliver anything else, I need to just go with my gut.
Back to the actual matter at hand, I ordered the Father Nature and while it was generously sized and featured all the traditional ingredients-pickled turnips, lettuce, hummus, tomatoes, pickles and peppers-the chicken was entirely dark meat, it was pretty dry, and it had nothing distinctive that made me really enjoy my meal or makes it anything to try other than if you're already nearby.
Which is a shame because their menu is so very tempting at first reading. I may stop in for the little chickpea balls if I'm hungry in Old Town again, but somebody, anybody, please give me the name of a place that will deliver on its offer of more than falafel, cuz this place sure as hell did not and since falafel is not all that hard to make delicious I am not impressed even if theirs is passable.
Ambiance is purty weak. Friendly staff...not so much. I had the hummus wrap add chicken the first time i had this crunch wrap was delicioso! Second time i had it was good. Third time i had it had to take a perro bag. Dunno what it is but ive only had it a couple of times and i cant really stomach it anymore?? Worth a shot.
Father Nature's chicken wraps with eggplant added are so delicious they have become another lunchtime staple for me. Their eggplant is always perfectly cooked. If you're looking for a lighter lunch try the eggplant side with some lavash and you will be heaven. Their fries are amazing too.
Beware of the lunch time rush though, the line can be out the door and the tables fill up. Still worth the wait!
gosh. so yummy!
I havnt been to the actual location in awhile but i remember it being extra cute! There are a couple tables downstairs (where you order and where they make your food), the condiment bar is also downstairs. Then you go upstairs and its a land of cuteness! Just a couple more tables (like..3 or 4) so I would assume it fills up quick.
My roommate just brought a wrap home for me though and it was ooOoO excellente! Soo tasty! It was the Father Nature Wrap with the chicken! So tasty! :)
I remember they also have the best fries! Not too crunchy not too soft! Perfectly seasoned! mm :)
Must go again soon! It's on the little corner right next to 21 choices...which is another place i must try!
I think I had the best wrap I have ever had. The hummus wrap was amazing. So flavorful, the texture was perfect. A little crispy and warm on the outside and everything compacted together in harmony on the inside. I can't believe how good it was. I have to go to Father Nature again very soon.
This place is amazing! I can't believe I never tried this before as I've lived in the area for so long! Get any wrap with garlic sauce or tahini, and it'll be amazing! It's more of a to-go and quick eat place also. Try the eggplant wraps!
Big, wide, and barely fits in my mouth. That's how I like my wraps.
Environment:
Small and always hot/stuffy. Sit as close to the door as possible, or just take it to go. Know what you want to order before speaking because the cashiers are impatient and don't like talking to customers apparently. Quick service, although not friendly. Parking (in Pasadena? what's that?) will have to be found in a structure or on some random street in the area.
Food:
Great wraps and so huge! First, the ingredients taste fresh and homemade. The wraps are made to order so your order is always warm. The tahini is soo good! Sorta spicy but tangy and thick, not watery like other places. I've tried the eggplant wrap, which is grilled eggplant and very tasty. The falafel wrap is really good; their falafel is crispy and very flavorful. The chicken wrap is my default choice if I don't feel like trying something new, which never disappoints me. The chicken is always flavorful from the bbq but still juicy and not dry. I've had the french fries (potatoes: my kryptonite) which are basic krinkle cut fries.
Why four stars?
Their wraps are killer. I haven't found a place that makes such a good wrap for the price. Also, the quality of their ingredients is very high. I wish they would have a bigger dining area or at least a better venitlated one and a better parking situation.
American culture needs to adopt two things from Europe:
1) Siestas: studies show that a post lunch nap actually makes you more productive!
2) Afternoon tea: little scones and tea are the perfect filler between dinner and lunch
So I get off work early and its just that no-man's land meal time. Lunch was 2.5 hours ago, dinner is not for another 2.5 hours and happy hour is not for another 1.5 hours. So before hanging out with friends I decided to get some afternoon food delight at 21 Choices. But when I passed by Father Nature's Lavish Wraps and saw their menu, I decide, "ehh, I could have pita and hummus. That could be my own little version of an afternoon tea!"
Well, the pita and hummus did hold me over till dinner time but in terms of the quality of it, I'll have to say that Carousel, Zankou's and Gerlachs, is all better. However, I did like how they served the pita warm.
Will be back to try their wraps!
Delicious!
Let me start with the self-serve condiment bar with jalapenos, sweet peppers, and relish. I love adding jalapeno to the wraps. Also, I highly recommend a side of hummus to eat with your wrap.
I tend to favor the "Double Pleasure" (I think that's the name) - it is the chicken with falafel. I love the flavor and texture the falafel adds to this wrap. The "Vegetable Delight" with eggplant is also a good choice. First time, I ate in for a snack (the wraps are big enough for two to share on a snack), or definitely filling for one person.
One of my favorite places to eat in Old Town because you have great food, reasonable prices, and simplicity with getting a table or taking your food to go. It is easy to miss unless you're looking for it or shopping at Forever 21 or Diesel.
i LOVE the "bite-size" eggplant wrap + the most yummy, amazing, fantastic lentil soup here.
Whenever I'm in Pasadena (which is nearly never & only for H&M) I go here... but if it was closer I *would* live on that lentil soup!
p.s. I'm not hating on the staff here... but they could use a tickle and smile.
I love this place!
It is healthy, delicious, quick, and inexpensive. Serg (the owner? manager?) is very friendly and even gave me some free desert.
There are tons of tables to eat inside or you can get your food togo. I have noticed people studying/working here too.
Tonight I tried the lentil soup for the first time. OMG. SO GOOD. It is a must try.
I've been to Father Natures twice and I really don't have anything good or bad to say about it. If you are vegetarian, you can do worse in the Pasadena area. If you aren't a vegetarian, then I don't recommend going there, since you can spend your $10 elsewhere and get better food. The price is sort of high for the amount of food you get. An average lunch is about $8 and the wraps aren't that filling. Parking is a bitch and if you are going to waste time searching for a parking spot, there are way better places in old town. I had the double pleasure there and the chicken ala press, both are not something to write home about.
Probably the healthiest thing you can eat in Old Town.
They're a little on the stingy side: no good air conditioning, sodas come in a can, exorbitant price for extra pita, over-priced food.
And the dude behind the counter freaks me out; he's so quiet.
Great place in old town to eat. The place is small and not easy to find if your not looking for it, It's located between Diesel and Forever 21. This simple little Deli looking place, serves delicious wraps. The portions are generous and the price very suiting for the location. My favorite is the Father Nature chicken wrap and I usually get a side of basket fries.
Worth a try if your out in Old town!
Decent salad, I'm eating it right now. I got the Father Salad with chicken schwarma meat. The dressing is a tad too spicy for me, but the portion is generous and the chicken in flavorful. Good pickled turnips, not as pickled tasting as I like them though.
This place has a lot of things going for it.
It's probably the best bang for you buck food-wise in Old Town Pasadena. The menu is HUGE, particularly for a wrap place (I'm so used to wrap shops with their scant selection), and it overwhelms me to be honest. I've only had three things on their menu, and I'd consider trying other things, but they do those three things SO WELL how can I deny myself from having them?
First is their veggie delight. That's item #1 on the menu; it's your basic falafel wrap. The falafel is made fresh and they're puck-shaped, which gives them a more even cooking and it's not greasy at all. They're big too, so you get a perfect proportion of falafel in each bite.
Second are the fries. Kinda pricey for what you get, but they're good and a worthwhile treat if you're having a bad day. Prepared as fries are (fried), but after cooking they're placed in a towel to absorb some of the oil and then sprinkled with magical seasoning. By the time I make it back to work, half of them are gone.
Then there's the lentil soup...though we fully haven't figured out what kind of lentils they use, it's good. they put green onion and some seasoning in your little bowl and that's all you need. It's a generous size for the $2.50 you get and polishing that off gives you perfect warm soup belly.
I went there today to get lunch and imagine my joy when I discovered you can phone in your order to pick up! YES! Especially considering in the time it takes for them to make anything there is how long it would take me to walk there from work. I have to say though, they misspelled my name as "CORTIZON" but I'm not holding it against them. In fact, I wore my receipt for the rest of the day. Some people commented on it, to which I'd reply, "I guess today I'm Cortizon, but that's okay, cause I had a really good falafel wrap!"
Next thing I want to try on the menu: black bean hummus.
Something I don't want to try there: their chicken on the roaster. Despite the fact I don't eat much meat anymore (weekends excepted), If you really want a wrap with chicken, it's TOTALLY worth driving to Zankou on Colorado. All the same, Father Nature is real good eats, particularly in the area it is.
I'm lopping off a star because of the customer service. Some complain of the creepy guy behind the counter, but I'd rather him than the nasty lady who doesn't get my order right and has a downright attitude. Coworkers agree, we'd be more willing to go there a lot more often if not for them being so grouchy. Don't blame us for liking your wraps so much, lady!
So, my friend and I came here actually expecting the crappy attitude and mean demeanor (but yummy lavash wraps), but were treated with smiles and friendly service, so I can't vouch for the grouch that everybody else seems to be getting. Both times I've had very pleasant staff behind the counters, and even had a compliment on my shirt! What gives!? Maybe I got them on good days : )
Anyway, the wraps are delish, and you have to appreciate the humor at a place stuck between 21 choices and forever 21. The Falafel wrap is good, but I got the eggplant wrap the second time around, and that is now my favorite- AWESOME flavor- very rich and moist and great lunch. Love the pickle bar too.
The portions are just enough for lunch, and just enough for a late afternoon snack. Very small, though, so wouldn't go with more than a friend or you'll find trouble getting a place to sit. Will definitely be back, and would recommend to anybody looking for a nice healthy, Mediterranean-style wrap lunch.
Yes, the dude behind the counter is crabby...as are some of the women who work there. (There's one nice woman, but I don't know her name.) But the black bean hummus is so freaking good, I can't stop going there.
I also tried one of the chicken wraps, which was super tasty. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of getting it on a whole wheat pita, which was chokingly dry. However, the spicy tahini helped a bit and had quite a flavor kick to it. Yum!
I really just like it because I feel healthy eating here. Also I like to say falafel!
Thats right yelpers it is another hummus and falafel review from Nicole G. Yes, I am bound and determined to try every hummus and falafel joint in this big ole city!!!!!!! All I had to do was see that Ericka Sparkles gave it a thumbs up and I was on my way to Pasadena....that sparkly gal never steers me wrong!
I really liked the food from there! I got the double hummus wrap with a side order of falafel. The wrap had a spicy black bean hummus mixed in with plain hummus....it was a great combination of two very different flavors. Quite tasty. I loved the bulgur wheat mixed in to the wrap, it added a nice texture to it. The veggies that were in it were crisp, fresh, and delicious. I must say the best part was the actual wrap itself. It was so good! Plus, it didn't fall apart the way pita normally does. The falafel was crisp and it wasn't greasy at all. It wasn't the best falafel I have ever tasted but it was really good. I liked it a lot.
Paul got the vegetarian delight wrap which had falafel and veggies in it. He got a garlic sauce for it instead of the tahini. He really liked his as well.
We found the service to be very friendly. After reading the reviews we were prepared for some cranky workers but everyone was really warm and friendly! You can't beat the prices, I was surprised at how big the wraps were considering how inexpensive everything was.
I think the only reason I didn't give Father Nature's five stars is because the wraps were slightly dry. Although to be honest, it was probably because we both got them without tahini...who knows! Also, I was bummed that my wrap didn't come with cheese but of course I had plenty of cheese at home to add to it! :)
We will totally go back. Delicious food, very reasonable prices, friendly service....how can you go wrong?!
Good, cheap Middle Eastern wraps. Surprisingly, they have good french fries too.
They have typical Old Town pricing for a quickie sit down/take out place. $7-$10 for a wrap and a drink.
I took off 3 stars because the owner/cashier is beyond creepy. If you ask him a direct question, he just stares at you. If you ask again, the woman doing the cooking (I assume this is his wife) answers.
It's not a language issue because I've heard the guy speak perfectly fluent English on the phone. If I ask a question, I expect someone to have the decency to at least respond with some ACTUAL WORDS.
Answer me this Father Nature - Do you actually want my money or should I go somewhere else? Huh? HUH?!?!?!?
This has always been one of my favorite places to eat in Old Town. You can't go wrong with anything you order --at least from what I experience. And I think the staff is super-friendly! Granted I've been coming here since I was 10 and they know me by name... But really, come visit!!
My ex and I affectionately re-named this place "The Felafel Nazi." As in, "NO FELAFEL FOR YOU!!" Yep, the guy who works there is surly as all get-out. But he makes a helluva lavash wrap, so I return from time to time.
Huge portions, nice vegetarian selection, and lots of toppings you can add on yourself.
And just a wee bit of verbal abuse for the masochist in you.
