I felt as though I should write a review for Father & Sons purely because it's the only decent pizza I've had in Fishtown. Some of the places on girard are actually inedible!

The pizza is greasy and cheap tasting, but.. what could be more american? The cheesy garlic bread sticks are awesome, though. I'm not going to lie. They look like a giant mess of cheese and bread, and that's exactly what they are. You can't really go wrong.

The service is decent and the delivery sometimes takes a while, but the food has never been cold.

Also.. great bargains. Extra large pizza & bread sticks & 2 liters of soda for $12.95.

Fishtowners, Kenzos, Port Fishingtons!

If you're having a nice little night to yourself, hunkered down in your jammies and a few good flicks, and think you may just wanna order a pizza to fill that empty belly of yours... DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE.

If you live in the area, you get the daily gift of pizza joint menus stuffed into your door, handrail, and mailbox. i typically set them aside in my "menus" file, but after i had over 15 copies of 2nd Street Pizza and the like, I thought it was time to chisel them down to a few good men-us..

So Friday night I was ready for a good bacon and broccoli pizza. I perused a few places and settled on Father & Son.. simply because in their advertising they claim to "take pride" in their food. Fair enough. I gave them a shot.

When I called the man on the other end sounded like he was still on a bender from the weekend prior. He grunted and slurred into the phone and I had to ask him to repeat himself several times because I could not decrypt anything he was saying. I should have known this was going downhill, but I'm one for giving people a chance. I ordered my pizza and asked for the tomato / mozzarella salad. He muffled the phone and came back with, "Uhhh (undecipherable) sitting out all day (undecipherable) lunch special..." What I gathered he was trying to say was that the cheese was sitting out all day - as if he was giving me the option to still order it. Instead, I ordered some spaghetti with meatballs for my lunch and dinner the next day.

He then hung up without giving me an ETA. 40 minutes later a guy arrives with my food. With tip it came to $23.. yikes! Didn't see that one coming. I guess I should have read the prices before I ordered. I knew I had my pizza in hand, but I was more curious about the pasta. I lifted the cardboard lid and underneath was crusty linguini with a drizzle of caked-on "tomato sauce" and three mystery-meat grayish meatballs. I took two bites and quickly concluded that this was probably made and frozen a month ago and reheated just for me. The meatballs reminded me of cooked testicle.. not that I know what that looks like, but it's the only comparable I can imagine.. I tossed that in the trash and waved goodbye to the $7.00 I dropped on it. I moved on to the pizza. The broccoli was still frozen in some parts and the strips of bacon were still squishy. TRASHED as well. I hope, at least, the fruit flies in my trashcan felt like they hit the jackpot.

I made a bowl of cereal and trudged through my evening of Halloween-esque flicks alone.. with no pizza and $23 poorer.

Yelp, is there a way to give half a star? Or negative stars?

Good mozz sticks. Pretty good pizza. Service is not so awesome, but it gets the job done.  Great rice pudding.
