I was a little skeptical when a friend told me this was the place where the area rockers got their hairs cut. I mean, I'm not a rocker, far from it. Don't get me wrong: I totally WISH I was a rocker, but it just isn't happening. Nobody would ever confuse me for one. At best, I might be taken for a tour manager's creepy brother. At best.
But I digress.
Rock and roll ethic or no, this place gives a really good cut and for reasonably cheap. Men's cuts are $20 plus tip, less if your a mostly clippered kind of dude. Women's cuts are somewhat more, but that somewhat isn't all that much.
Fast Eddy's accepts walk-ins, but I'd recommend an appointment. I followed a herd of people up the stairs to get my cut and was the only one not turned away (because I'd phoned first, as the commercial suggests). Come to think of it, that did kind of make me feel like a little bit of a rock star....
Oh yeah, one last thing: the receptionist totally took my coat and hung it up in the closet. Nice touch.
This place is affordable, hip and the staff here is very welcoming. I have been to six different salons since I have moved to California two years ago. I can never find the right stylist. I went home for a wedding and needed a hair cut. I went on to Yelp (unfortunately there isn't much activity as the bay area, but I decided to go with this place. I called them up and they were friendly on the phone and affordable. This place would fit in well in the bay area. Its hip and cool. The girl who cut my hair was amazing. She didn't go crazy, she just trimmed a couple inches but she was fast and personable. She really made me feel comfy. She wasn;t pretentious or boasty, just very easy going. This is my home salon everytime I go back now.
When I moved over to the East Side, I had to find a new barber. Plus, I was kinda tired of my old barber cutting my hair unevenly. So I started going to Fast Eddy's. I really liked it for awhile, until I realized that it seemed as if they raised their prices almost regularly. When I compared the haircut that I received from Fast Eddy's to lower-priced salons in the area, I realized that it just wasn't worth it anymore.
If I had a lot of extra money, I probably would have kept on going here. Why? The haircuts that I did receive were great and the stylists were very personable. I really liked the younger guy with the shaved head--he was a great conversationalist and a really nice guy in general. If you've got the money to spare, you'll get a great haircut at Fast Eddy's...but if you're on a budget, Fast Eddy's high prices just aren't worth it. And, as Justin V. said, regardless if you're broke or ballin', make sure you have an appointment before you go--I once made the mistake of going without an appointment and I waited so long that I think my hair grew an inch in the waiting area.
