Living within walking distance of this Farmer's Market I am a frequent visitor.
Although I am not a fan of the animal farm or blow up slides, this Farmer's Market provides some neat hand made things to look at (and a lot of crap!), and some really good fresh food/veggie vendors.

There are two vendors who both have amazing hummus' that provide sample of really unique flavors.  This hummus only lasts a day in our house.
Old Town Baking Company- a bread vendor is one I visit every week. Check out the Rosemary Garlic Sourdough and their Veggie bread!
Klausebees has amazing honey- their crest wildflower is my favorite.

A good selection of fresh fruit and veggies, and the largest avocados!!

Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

5 stars for the actual Farmer's Market part......the food, that is. As for the other crap...and I DO mean crap.....its un-rateable. Its the same junk you can buy at any craft fair. Its useless, but you can't help looking at it. Maybe for some there is treasure, but in my eyes.....no.

Now, I consistently can find the best fresh baked bread, the best hummus, the best honey, the best strawberries and the best cobbler in L.A. every friday night! The parking is easy if you go early and the prepared food is also at its best early on. I love getting freshly squeezed lemonade and grazing the stalls of produce.
My thing is, I don't go to be entertained, I go to grocery shop. I come from a family of fresh and organic produce lovers, so to me, there is nothing better than a dark ripe juicy peach or homemade tamales.

This is a large street fair located in downtown Monrovia on Friday evenings.  I wish there were more farmers at this farmers market.

The Farmer's Market/stree fair spans about 4 blocks, and the streets are closed so there is plenty of space for 4 rows of booths and the many shoppers.

In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, they also have vendors that serve ready made food to eat. They've got kettle corn, cookies, drinks, hummus, Bavarian candied nuts, etc. They also have tables and chairs set up for entertainment and dining and a kid friendly area that includes inflatable jumpies. There are non-food vendors as well who sell t-shirts, purses, soaps, candy, toys, decals, sunglasses, etc.
There is plenty of free street parking on the surrounding streets.

Monrovia Farmer's Market, please get rid of the Petting Zoo! I detest petting zoos; especially those that only have baby animals. I'm completely appalled that people can ooh and ahh at the baby animals and ignore the fact that these animals are going to killed or used as breeding machines when they're no longer cute enough to make money for the petting zoo owners. And I can't stand the parents that let their kids chase the goats/pigs and drop the chickens from 3 feet up in the air!  Please, for the sake of the animals... no more sugar coated animal abuse.

I was looking at homes to rent around Monrovia and one poor soul actually said that the Farmers Market is within walking distance of this one particular place. He said it as though it was a perk!
This place is a circus complete with sideshow, vaudeville, traveling freaks and very little fresh produce. if you are a gastro-phile and are looking for a real farmers market, wait for the one at PHS on Saturday mornings. There is a little Mexican food stand there that is wildly overpriced but will cure ANY hangover. and LOTS of beautiful fresh fruit and vegetables. If however, you are looking for carny treats and trailer park kids in a stroller brigade,, henna tattoos and a sad pony going round in circles, then by all means!!!! come on down!!! oh and they f- up the entire street of Myrtle so if you would like to go to dinner or see a movie at one of the perm establishments, again, head far far away.

the first farmer's market that i know about. they're only opened on fridays from 5-9 30pm. don't be surprised, this farmer's market is not that big, but with tons of people. and it's also not as clean and pretty as you would think it is, but it does it's job. it's a FM with fresh groceries, drink and food stands, toys, clothes, shoes, jewelry, pets, people. once in awhile, you'll find something cute and weird sold by some psycho. pretty interesting place to go to when you have nothing to do on a friday night.

go grab a drink, have a hot dog, sit down, have a dessert, and walk around with a bag of buttered pecan and kettle popcorn. be sure to wait in line for that fat/cholesterol booster funnel cake.

i believe there is a parking lot by the market but i couldn't find it the last time i went there. so be prepared to fight for street parking.

There are a lot of farmer's markets around the San Gabriel Valley but this is my favorite. It's pretty easy to find parking (because there are several lots and plenty of street spaces), there's great prepared food, lots of fresh produce, crafts to see (not that I would really want to buy any of it), and there's even a petting zoo and activities for the kids. It's a great way to spend a Friday evening.

Samples of fruits/drinks/cakes to try... Why not go?

Sometimes there is a band practicing, but well, free concert for you!
There has some Mexican grills- but I'm not here for the food, so yeah!

Some booths accept credit cards, but it is best for you to bring cash!

Please stay away!  This market has an awful petting zoo where animals are manhandled mercilessly by hoards of people. Who knows how many die when the "doors" finally close. Baby chicks are tossed about as if they were stuffed animals, while parents allow kids to whatever they want to the chicks if it keeps 'em occupied for a few minutes.

It's simply not right. The market should not exploit animals and expose them to such inhumane treatment. I'll shop elsewhere and I urge you to do so, as well.  Too many other places to buy fresh produce.

Food:  A (fresh and some organic)
Clothes:  A (made in the USA with some originals ... a lil pricey)
Value:  A (better than a natural foods store & made in the USA clothes)
Service:  A (they'll let you try anything without any haggle)
Return Rate:  Often

I love going to any farmer's market, but this one is on Friday nights.  It's great for families, pet owners, or shopaholics.  But this is one of the few places that a couple who are smitten for each other can enjoy a light and romantic stroll filled with lots of tasty treats while deciding what's for breakfast.

My friend had a booth at this event and I was stopping by to help.  I was also shopping for breakfast items as well ... for my friend and I.  I took a suggestion from one of the Greek vendors (there are many) to use 1/2 of the pita for the base of scrambled eggs, feta, tomatoes, and spinach ... and then the other half for a sweeter version of pita, feta spread, and strawberries (this was a delicious sample).

We shared dinner under the stars:

Beef & Gyro Sammy:  Delicious and please read my detailed review of the official restaurant.

Pulled Pork Sammy:  Even though the place was packed, it was meh.  Please read my detailed review of the official restaurant.

I also wanted some empanadas because of Linden G's review.  I thought that I was only going to get a few to share, but I left the place with a dozen.  The foodie in me had to do a comparison.  We could only share one empanada and decided to have more for breakfast and snacks.  Please read my detailed review of the official restaurant.

We ended the night with some froyo and Wii at a local joint.  This will also have a separate review.

P.S.  I forgot, dancing in the streets is not frowned upon at all :)

During the winter months, understandably the booths are scarce, and there is a low turnout rate of people perusing the different products each stand offers.  But come spring/summer, and the booths multiply tenfold, and take up multiple blocks, and not just one or two.

For food, there is an abundance: stands selling fresh kettle corn, nuts, vendors hawking their pita/hummus fare, breads, pastries, and of course fresh veggies, fruits, flowers, and plants.  Most of the vendors are local business owners who bring a sample of what they sell in-store to the Farmer's Market.  What's GREAT is that most of the time, you can ask for a sample of their foods (yuumyumm).  There are also small booths selling all types of food, and many of these have restaurants hiding away a block or two from the market.  There are also quite a few cafes that dot along the main street, so if taste-testing foods is just giving you a tease, then head out for any of the many charming bistros/cafes/restaurants that line the blocks, because I'm sure all of them are delicious.

Vendors that sell material ware vary: Mainly it's clothes and accessories, such as purses, jewelry, belts, etc.  I remember seeing a stand of Jehovah's Witnesses one time, and another one which gave you a free stress management test, or those that offer you massages.  There are also fun activities for the kiddies, such as a pony ride around in a circle, or the jumping play house.

Overall, this place is great for the family, or two lovers looking to perambulate the streets in a warm summer night, with the stars blanketed above their heads. . .with the smell of bbq, sweet sugar and butter from the kettle corn, and the musky scent of flowers mixing together to create a sweet aroma reminiscent of a food festival, and the eclectic stalls that dot along the block like a street fair.

AH YES, I feel like such a domesticate suburban hee-haw when I stroll around the Monrovia Farmers Market.

I must say, I enjoy walking along hearing the birds chirp.... blah blah

No really I love this market. WHY?  The food, that's why!  I especially love the fresh fruit, veggies, honey sticks, fresh breads, free samples, funnel cakes, BBQ  and this one vendor dude that sells Mediterranean foods.  Peppers stuffed with feta cheese, feta cheese with garlic and spreads.
It's really a great atmosphere and interesting to view the booths and just see what everyone is selling. Definitely recommend it.  Even if you don't go to buy anything, its just a cool place to walk around.

I went at around 5:45pm couple weeks ago(summer time), there's plenty of street parking just a street down.  I went there specifically for cold packed honey to cure seasonal allergies and there's a lot of variety of honey there.
I only strolled through half of the market and I came across three strawberry stands, multiple vegetable, flower, orchid stands.  It's a very comprehensive farmer's market I'd say.

I think I've only been to one or two other Farmer's Markets, but this one was pretty enjoyable. They had a lot of stuff here. From arts and crafts, to a petting zoo, to a man on a chair singing Karaoke next to the produce section.

It's located on a street that already has a lot of businesses and things to do, so if you're going to watch a movie at the Krikorian, or having dinner in one of the many restaurants along this street, the Farmer's Market is worth a visit on Friday evenings. It's a good addition to a date night.

As far as parking goes, my mom and I usually just park in the theater lot in the back and just walk down.

Friday Evenings.

I really enjoy this farmer's market for many reason.  They actually have many decent craft/art booths. It is not made up of a majority of 80 year-olds who have crocheted toilet roll covers, ponchos, and whatever else you can manage to crochet that should not ever be crocheted.

They have good food stands so you can sample a restaurant in the village that you may not have bothered to try before. It's how I tried Empanda's gourmet and the tamale place.  They have a good variety of veggies, nuts, and honeys, and flowers.

Or you can have a nice dinner at one of the restaurants, sit by the window, and people watch. You can relax at the sports bar or Mundial lounge to rest your feet after walking the fair, or catch an early movie adn then buy your veggies and food to take  home.

It really makes for a nice Friday evening.

flower selection is pretty good. booths and booths of fun little things everywhere. i got a custom phone charm for my girlfriend here. i swear it was the best looking thing when i was looking at the sample ones, but when i made one it looked kinda funny hahaha. make sure you go with someone else so they can check it out for you.
i got a license plate frame here for my friend who goes to ucla. the top said USC. the bottom said SUCKS :) reasonable price.
i gotta get some of the food though! haha im definitely coming this friday.

Even though I have plenty of Farmer's Markets in my area, I don't mind driving a bit further to Monrovia for this market. I love the atmosphere - families, groups, dates .. and everyone is so relaxed and chill. We even came across a local band performing outside the theatre and people were stopping and dancing in the street. How cool is that?

I especially liked the grilled corn and the bbq (the tri tip is sooo good.) There's also a lady on the sidewalk, close to theatres, that sells these little pastries. I forget what they're called, but they're cheap ($1) and GOOD.

I love this farmers market...

... I think I like it so much because of the location.. i really like Mrytle Street. There are tons of restaurants, cafes and even a movie theater.
There are lots of booths.. a majority are fruits, vegetables, nuts, honey, organics and so on...  There are some selling non-sense junk, but they don't rule the market. The prices are decent, the organics cost more of course.
It does get pretty busy... it seems to be the hang out for high school kids, maybe its because the movie theater is right there.
They have a petting zoo... I love animals.. but its so sad to watch little kids picking up and dropping the little animals!
Overall is seems like a great family place, lots of stuff for kids, lots of places to eat.

It's cool, this is more of a family scene, lots of local food vendors of Monrovia which is good. They close Myrtle on Friday so you get to walk in the middle of the street. BBQ vendor and petting zoo, not together tho.

Very eclectic. Look one way & you see a humus stand & veggies, look the other way you get belt buckles & belly dancing outfits. Not too crowded 80% of the time. Live music (E.G. Moonshine Mountain Boys!). Good job, Monrovia.
