Ate here during an afternoon TV Taping of the Price is Right. This is an outdoor cheap date. The place has every sort of restaurant you want, korean, breakfast, hash, bars, candy apples, etc, but all is a tad bit overpriced to take the change away from your pocket, but not too much. You pick the food and it's there.

I got myself some take out sushi. Next door is the grove if you want to take the significant shopping in a cleaner area type mall. Even have a mini "Las Vegas Bellagio" fountain show in the middle of the grove.

I went here for lunch with a friend on Saturday, and it was a good time out. Sooo many choices! Face it, if you go here and can't find anything even remotely interesting to eat, you're not hungry.

We ended up getting food at this Russian stand. I got the veggie plate and my friend got a borka (sp?) or something like that... it was this pizza-like thing that had spinach and egg in it... both were delicious! We wanted to hit one of the dessert stands afterwards, but we were so full it was just not going to happen.

I've been going to this place since I was wee lickle child. I returned this past week to find that it's even better.  Getting produce every day of the week is awesome.  All of the restaurants to choose from makes it a good place for groups. Being able to pick up some souvenirs for the boys parents was good too.  This place is just so nice and I think it should be up there for a spot on anyone's tourist list.

One of my favorite places to be.  All the little food stands, from Korean food to Creole, Brazilian to French crepes.  YUM!  There's a tea stand, different butchers and bakers, and even a sports bar.  There's a store with all things spicy, and there's amazing smelling barbecue.

I love buying produce here.  Everything's always super fresh, and it lasts.  My favorite butcher (Marconda's) is there, and there's even a Sur La Table store nestled in near the Chinese food stand.

I wish I had time to go today...

REVIEW: My God, the Farmer's Market! This is one of THE tourist's delights, and if you're not a tourist it's STILL a delight. All sorts of food mainly, the most incredible variety of food ever assembled in one place -- some items to be had, it seems, nowhere else. You can spend a whole day and evening here and not get bored. You can wander around and explore what there is, or settle in at a table or a bench and do some world-class people watching. And nowadays, you can even wander out of the funky Farmer's Market into the chichi kicky-trendy Grove and spend even MORE money!

Some of the "stalls" have been there for years and years, patronized by two or three generations of Angelenos. If you've never been, spend time exploring their website first, get the lay of the land!

PAYMENT: Cash, check, CC -- whatever's legal tender.

PARKING SITUATION: Big lots, but be warned: you could still have a problem finding a spot during their busy hours.

Who knew I'd enjoy an LA food court so much? We stopped by the city of angels for just a night, and our friends happened to live right by the Grove, so we strolled by for dinner. Each of us picked up grub at a different stall, and we all sampled each other's food.
Everything was delish - the crepes, New Orleans Cajun/Creole food (ah, those beignets!), the Brazilian churrascaria, and a killer Greek platter. I loved the ambience of the place, which was chillled out, diverse and as un-LA like as I could imagine. Live music was playing, our feet were tapping, the breeze was lovely, and we could've stayed all night.

This is one of my favourite places and I don't get bored with it.

The Farmers Market on 3rd is an excellent place for fresh produce and since I live so close by I will by more produce here than at Trader Joe.
The fruit salads from the fruit markets are excellent value for money, nice little coffee places, of course Singapore Banana Leaf for an exotic lunch, Pinkberry, you name it.

Breadworks is to be opened, which is exciting coz I love that place.
In a nutshell: this is a nice place, not only for tourists but also for locals like myself.

Parking... not really a problem between the two parking lots and the structure. With validation it's still very reasonable.
Should it really be very hard then go to Ross Dress For Less on the opposite, park there and walk through the Ross shop :)
Naughty, but it works !

Everywhere we go,
People want to know.
Who we are,
So I tell them.
We are the Yelpers,
Mighty mighty Yelpers,
Oh ah, I feel good, ah!

My first weekend with my fresh new Yelp Elite hoodie, I went to Los Angeles to cheer for two buddies that completed the AIDS Lifecycle (congrats again to Vincent V. and Cory L.!).  Even though I only could wear my hoodie for less than a minute in the 90+ degree weather, I still felt the tingle of Yelp super review powers run through my body.

That power lead my group to the Farmers Market at The Grove.  This is by far the best food court I have ever been to in my life.  Reminiscent of hawker centers in Asia, there are many different cuisines available to satisfy your taste buds.  From Greek to French, American to Mexican, Brazilian to Korean, Sandwiches to BBQ, Fruit Smoothies to Fruit Stands, and Froyo to Ice Cream, this place has it all.  For large groups with multiple cravings or in my case, individuals that love to eat and have multiple cravings, there is no better stop.  With the cheap prices, easy parking, and wonderful location, its definitely worth a visit.

Tips:
- The Farmer's Market is nestled inside The Grove.  For out of towners, this is a perfect lazy day stop to shop and eat.
- Park in the parking structure at the Grove.  Its easy, cheap, and close to the Farmer's Market.

This was the first place I visited when I moved to Los Angeles almost 3 years ago. I love the hustle and bustle of the market, and all of the different food choices (the Brazilian place is a must try!) They have pretty much anything you could want - an amazing array of different ethnic foods.

There are stands to buy fresh nuts, fresh meat, candy, baked goods, and even a gourmet shop that sells the most eclectic selection of wine, cheese, drinks, and an assortment of other unusual, but appetizing goodies (The cheese selection is really amazing though. It's all I can do not to stare.) It's also a good place to go to find obscure fruits (like Dragon Fruit. YUM!)

I lopped off a star because of the recent additions of Starbucks and Pinkberry. I mean... Seriously? Shame on them for allowing corporate business in such an old landmark.

This place is apparently an L.A. institution and a landmark. I guess it's a famous meeting place for Hollywood of yore. "Meet me at the corner of 3rd and Fairfax." http://thirdandfairfax... is a common phrase for Los Angelinos to meet for Brunch, Lunch, Snack. Dessert or Dinner. It's a place to see and be seen.

However, parking is a pain but they do validate your ticket stub which is always a plus. You have to have patience but aggressive at the same time. Passive aggressive is always a good thing.

They have all kinds of goodies here and it's a treat for the senses. The aroma is wonderful and full of mouth-watering smell. From the Thai vendors to the BBQ, Burritos and Tacos. Butcher and Bake Shop all in one place. For dessert they have Ice Cream to satisfy your sweet tooth. And if you're craving something else they might have that as well. Now, isn't that swell?

Gee, golly oh Holly, will sure come back for more. But wait there's more. More... you say? But aha, you will have to come here to see what I'm sayin.

What am I sayin?

I say I like this place...So, why don't we meet at 3rd and Fairfax someday?

A food-lovers dream is this place! I did not want to leave. I wanted to try everything!! We ate at the Cuban BBQ place and I was not disappointed. We grabbed snacks, dried fruit, candy, candy-dipped fruit, nuts and much more. I will come back here next time I'm in LA. I hate LA, but I would live here to be near a place like this. sigh

The Farmer's Market is apparently an LA establishment. It is THE farmer's market and it is quite apparently because there are plenty of permanent structures, kiosks, seating and many vendors take credit cards. I had delicious chicken, spinach and mushroom crepe here, and even finished a third of my friend's Singaporean noodle dish. YUMMY! Fresh-squeezed orange juice made it all the better. We even picked up some roasted nuts and cashews, though I'm quite sure I'd be ready to by the whole place once over if I had the time, money and a U-Haul. Four stars because it's sooo commercial that it doesn't ahve the same charm of a traditional farmer's market.

Ooooooooweeeee!  I am not really a new kid to SoCal or LA, but it was just my first time to the Farmers Market at the Grove. Being from Seattle, it was a nice oasis and reminder of home.  But not really quite like home since it was mostly restaurant booth areas vs. the vendors that sell mostly their fruit/veggies/wares on these constructed benches.  It is more out in the open in Seattle.  But I digress as this review is about LA's version.

It is odd to walk through a commercial outdoor mall like the Grove and then to magically be whisked away to this place.  I would def be back!  Its like a mall food court but on steroids.  Call me a new kid, but I love LA!

I agree with Wendy C.  This place is a bit overrated and commercialized.  I'd much rather go to one of the local farmer markets (i.e. Santa Monica or Brea) where the produce seem like the real deal.  And don't get me started on Seattle's Pike place or Berkeley's Farmers market... now THAT's a Farmers Market.  And when did farmers markets get to be so trendy and expensive?  I think I'll get my oranges from the Mexican produce stand that sells 10lbs for 99cents in Anacrime, thank you very much.

Maybe I've gone to the wrong food stands, but so far everything I have tried has been average.  The Brazilian BBQ is definitely more affordable, but you get what you pay for.  The meat was tough and dry, and the side dishes seemed to be lacking.

I tried the Mexican stand in the middle.  The nachos and burritos cannot beat some of the authentic hole in the wall places and at half the cost.  You call that hot sauce?

I also tried the French pastry place.  I got an eclair.  What a waste of my $3 (it could've been more, I don't remember the exact price).  Seriously, the eclair tasted at least a day old... hard, dry, and the custard was lumpy/curdled.  I had to throw it away.

I must admit, there is an awesome selection and variety of ethnic cuisine.  However, which place tastes good and which items are worth your money is hit or miss.  Know before you go.

Bad experiences aside...L-A Farmer's Market is sooo L-A.

Meet me at 3rd and Fairfax...so the saying goes is an awesome place to do lunch or have dinner after work.  There's Korean, Cajun, French, Americana, Brazilian (def. try), and a long list of other cuisines for you to sample from.  Beware - there are virtually no ATMS and most of these venues only take cash...I think because its an old place...lacking infrastructure for such.  The food is tasty and a bit on the steep end of the pole.

It's a pretty cosmopolitan and hip place, you'll find all the walks of life here...and should you find the need to take a stroll...the Grove has shaped up to be a clean place to do that.

I had lunch at the farmers market twice in the last 2 weeks and both times Ive been incredibly stuffed.

First trip was on a Sunday and it was packed. I had myself a BBQ Beef sandwich, a tirimisu, slice of pizza and a rootbeer float. Everything was great.

Second trip back I hit the other end of the market and had a French Dip sandwich with some mac and cheese, a bowl of jambalya, some beinets and a mint iced tea, again, everything was awesome.

Parkin was kind of nightmareish so we parked at the Grove parking lot. Other than that, I was psyched all the way through.

Woah.. I stumbled upon this place and had no idea what I was getting into.. rows and rows of stalls with all types of food in a rustic setting. I felt a little like I was going back in time until I started looking at the prices of things.. sort of expensive.. sort of touristy but you can't beat the variety.  I saw types of food here I never knew existed.  I settled on a huge bread like donut filled with jelly from a Russian bakery and licked my fingers all the way home.

Farmer's is the foil to everything about the adjacent Grove that I hate. Rather than clean, full of generic shops, new, and attractive of the plastic celebutante set and their faithful minions, the Farmer's Market is historical, sometimes run down and simple. It's real, even if the prices leave me in little doubt I am still in West LA. It's a dense bit of the things in this city I love, at least in the gastronomic sense.

Ethnicities and their food, from Irish to Middle Eastern to Brazilian and even good ol' American diner fare, are all on show and even the cheapy tourist shops interwoven with the food stalls can't keep it from holding a bit of charm for this native, along with the tourists eager to scoop up those fake Oscar statuettes, bikini-clan boob magnets, and Beverly Hills or James Dean postcards.

In non-nostalgic terms, it's a great place for groups to meet at before or after LACMA, the Tar Pits, or shopping on 3rd St. because there is something for every appetite and parking for 2 hours is free with validation from any stall.

Most of the options are good quality and satisfying and you could visit a hundred times and still not experience it all. Farmer's is one for everyone in LA, visitors and inhabitants alike.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Hands down this is one of my favorite places to go or to take a friend when you can't decide what type of food you are in the mood for. There is sushi, brazillian, chinese, french, middle eastern, american, italian...basically a little bit of everything and it is all in one location. The Brazillian meat place charges by how heavy your plate is (so if you eat a lot, maybe it isn't for you ha) but this is one of the best places there and the french place in the back of the market is also very tasty. You can also get ice cream there which is made fresh but please avoid the starbucks and pinkberry when you go here...you can go anywhere in LA for that....

i can't believe after living in LA for 7 yrs, i never came here!!  my  bf and i came here today for lunch to meet up w/ friends who were shopping at the grove.  this place is happening, and parking is not, so if you can spare $7, just valet it.  once you walk in and see all the sights and the food,  you'll realize it's worth it.  there are so many choices that i didn't know where to begin, but i snagged a falafel sandwich at moishe's, since i had been craving falafels.  this is a great place to take out of towners and walk around to see the hodgepodge of cultures that is LA.

This reminds me of those open air markets that you go to have lunch at, and thats what i did. First time visit and it didnt help that it was 100 degrees and my head was performing hara-kiri, dont mix jager, vodka and beer...and wine...i digress...you have tons of choices and the cure is in front of your eyes....you really have to just choose your cure, plus they sell beer there! damn the bay needs to learn from this place. I found my cure and the food was good. I recommend, its off the beaten tourist path and worth the visit.

I love farmers market food and candy!    My first stop was the candy shop for the TOFFEEEEEE!!! YUM I remembered it from my last trip (4 years ago? before i was living in LA), and it was as delicious and fresh as in my memory.  I scarfed it down, forgetting that I came for dinner.  They also have a bunch of other fresh made chocolates and candies but I held myself back.

Then we made a circle around and decided on the brazilian BBQ place, and it was a bunch of meet and salad bar for a decent price.  Though there were a bunch of other types of food. sandwiches, french/italian, bbq, mexican, japanese, cajun, crepes, ice cream, good luck choosing!!

After we finished eating, we headed to Pinkberry for some yogurty fruity deliciousness.  On our way out, we smelled the scrumptious food from Banana Leaf, and that is something we have to check out next time.

This is not a market and there is no farmers here!

Maybe the joke is on me.  I came here expecting to experience some local tastes, instead I found this place nothing more than a commercialized outdoor mall with Nordstrom, Victoria's Secret, J Crew, Barnes New York, and etc.  Granted these shops are an extension to the original Farmers Market.

The site of the original Farmers Market does have a fresh fruit stand, but I am not convinced they were freshly picked.  The Singapore's Banana Leaf was just OK.  I had the Lido Special.  The Chicken Satay was quite good but the noodle (Mee Goreng) was nothing 'special'.  I couldn't finish more than 1/3 of it.  My finance had beef curry and liked it.  We also ordered Paratha.  The curry dipping sauce made it very tasty.

Because I was still hungry, I thought I'd give Gumbo Pot a try.  I mean I love spicy food and am a fan of Jambalaya.  I ordered a small bowl.  The minute he opened the pot, I regretted it.  It just didn't look appetizing!  It was sort of dry and not saucy enough.  I took a spoonful and told my finance I was done.  I hate wasting food.  I felt terrible throwing away the Mee Goreng and the Jambalaya!!!!

I left the place disappointed.  Don't get me wrong.  I think it's a cool place to hang out.  It just wasn't what I expected from a farmers market!

You can find so much different food here. I tried fried Alligator meat!! haha. What I loved the most was the Barbarian bbq they had there and it is also the vendor with the longest line!! The food there is absolutely amazing... so juicy and tender. I dont remember which part of the beef it was but I remember trying sirloin which was good but the best one is the 4th one! just remember to pick the 4th one!!

And I had strawberry lemonade from another vendor which was really good.

Also had some fudge. You gotta have fudge. There's a pink berry there but I wouldn't get that when I could get something more different since theres plenty of variety.

must try. BARBARIAN BBQ!!!!!

Be prepared to embrace the glutton inside of you, because you're going to want to eat EVERYTHING!  If it's to be your first and only visit, you must definitely try out the Brazilian place.  There ought to be more hodgepodge eating venues like Farmers Market in this world.  If you're doing the whole Grove/Farmers Market thing, I suggest you eat FIRST, and THEN do your shopping, so you burn off the food baby in your stomach and don't feel like such a fat ass on the drive home.

This is truly an L.A. classic, and I'll give you TWO great "insider's tips"...

#1: find the way up to the upstairs seating area (hint: near the toy store) and check out the amazing classic photos of Los Angeles circa the 20s, 30s, 40s.

#2: at Bennett's Ice Cream stand in the market, ask them about their amazing cast-iron ice cream molds, that they've been using to make ice cream in fun shapes for over 50 years. I brought some ice-cream turkeys (about the size of softballs) to a Thanksgiving dinner a couple years ago and they were a HUGE HIT.

This is sort of a fake farmers market, since its open all the time and is very expensive for a farmer's market.  But its a great place to come by for some great food (including amazing BBQ, Ice-Cream. Mexican, Sandwiches/Burgers, Sushi, and lots of sweets).  There are also some cool shops, and yes, there are fruits, but a real farmers market is probably just as fresh and cheaper.

It's also right next to the Grove, which has fancier restaurants and lots of shopping.  So no matter what, you won't likely be bored.

This farmers market is my dream come true and one of my favorite places in all of los angeles. Lets start of with a fact which will explain why I love this place. The plain pure fact is that I am a huge pig. I love to eat and really am amazed that I'm not pushing the scales at four hundred pounds.
So since food is the one thing that will calm my piggish ways the farmers market is my haven to help curb my cravings. The market place is filled with all varieties of food that each time I go I don't know what to eat first. Yes I say I don't know what to eat first because there's no way I am spending time at the farmers market and just eating from one both.
Do you want sweets there's candy booths as well as bakeries and pastries. Do you want Italian, Mexican, Indian, Greek, Chinese, sushi, BBQ? It's all here as well as so much more. There are fruit stand as well as meat stand, newspaper and magazine stands as well as little shops filled with anything from souvenirs to incense and nick knacks, so you can also take home anything you want.
I have obviously eaten at many of the places here but some of my favorite treats is the tortilla soup at Loteria which is a Mexican eatery, the flavored potatoes at Bryan's Pit Barbecue, and my absolute two favorite things here that I will go out of my way to get each time and will drive threw traffic to get to is the Chow Mein at the China Depot and the vanilla soft serve ice cream at Gills old fashioned ice cream.
So for all you foodies out there come on down and get fat with me here at the Farmers Market, there's always The Grove next door to walk some of the food off.

Really great place to eat. So many places to choose from. I swear you definitely will find a place where because they absolutely serve every single type of food here. Prices varies from place to place but very reasonable from what i seen. Some of these places have even been featured on food network.

This is a great place to come and show LA to someone from out of town. It's not really the best farmer's market per se, with the prices being so high and the selection being so slim, but what is really impressive about this place is the range of eateries available all in one small area. Ten or twenty grease spoons line the joint, and there is inexplicably a Starbucks and a Pinkberry. Magazine stands that have been doing business since the 1920's and ice cream parlors who still do it the old-fashioned way. Really, there's something for everyone here, but make sure you come hungry. More food than you can shake a stick at, and a beautiful LA legend.

Want to spend quality time with family, friends, or loved ones? This is the best place to it. You'll find an endless array of food, shops and entertainment. Although its located next door to The GROVE (trendy outside mall) I never go there because all I need is at the Farmers Market. Here are my Favs: The French Crepe Company (panini or nutella crepe), Loteria! (taco de pollo in chile de mole poblano w/ white rice & black beans), Pampas Grill (churrascara), & clam chowder soup in a bread bowl (can't remember the name). Still need to try: Singapore's Banana Leaf (I here it's Great) and many others. You can spead endless hours walking around enjoying the shops while sipping on a cool drink. This is a favorite bonding spot for me and my mom. Hope you enjoy it too!!!

I love this place.... one of my favorite places to gather a posse of friends and go an eat.

None of the "What do you wanna eat?"  "Nono, what do YOU wanna eat" conversation... there's something there for everyone.

I haven't tried everything there... so I'll list the places I've eaten at there, and inform you now that my review of the Farmers Market is limited ONLY to these joints.

The Cajun Joint
The Crepe Joint
The Mexican Joint
The Brazilian Joint
The Persian/Lebanese Joint
The Spicy Spice Store Joint
The PinkBerry Joint (who the fuck let them in??)
The Multiple Bakeries Joint

So... show up... first grab a table... then disburse and go get your grub.  See, how easy is that?  You can eat what you want... there's no fighting over the bill... and then everyone comes back together happy and admiring what the other person got.

In my list of what's I've had there, scratch PinkBerry from that list... people either LOVE or HATE that place.  Me?  I'm a hater.  Yes... I admit it... so I'm counting it out of my review.  Why pay $7 for a frozen yogurt when you can pay $7 for a fresh made crepe?  With cornichons?  How can you even beat that?

So eat one... eat all... everything there is great.  And tip the busser... they do a great job.

Fresh fruit, delish baked goods, Bob's Doughnuts and the list goes on...This place is outrageous.  I love the hot sauce store, has 100's of variety's of hot sauce from mild to xxx.  This place is my favorite place to eat for variety.  My hubby and I can eat together separately, so to speak...He can get ribs and I can eat Greek.  It's just so versatile and the food is always fresh and reasonably priced.  Parking is a pain, but worth the hassle..don't forget to validate!

This place is quite overwhelming the first time you step inside.  My wife and I went yesterday and was confused at first because we parked in the Grove Structure but we finally figure out that the farmers market was Right next to it.

The farmers market is more like a smorgasbord of different foods rather than the typically farmers market..although they do still have the fresh produce and the trinket type stores but the food...that's the real reason to go.  My wife ordered Chicken Mole at a the Mexican Restaurant while I got my grub on at the Brazilian BBQ.  The food was  stars to say the least it was just that delicious.

This is a definite place to visit for the experience, we are planning to take our Friends here next week.

Definitely a cool place to browse whether you're there shopping at The Grove, or not. I love the crowded and quaint country fair charm of this farmer's market. Nothing like Seattle's Pike's Place but the closest thing you'll find among Angelenos who detest cotton candy because it's a carb. Seen the commercial for the LA County Fair?? xD

Definitely recommend Bryan's Pit BBQ and the Brazilian place where you pay for your food by weight. It's pricey fare but freshly prepared and convenient on a cold night of shopping. BRING CASH.

Great place. Love the atmosphere, love the selection, and love coming here when I'm down visiting LA.

Best addition to this wonderful plethora of food is Pinkberry. However, I have to subtract 1 star because the prices are a bit too expensive for the food you get. The stands that are worth your buck are: BBQ, Mexican, Pinkberry, Cajun, Thai.

Can I recommend adding a Vietnamese food stand with pho? I was really craving a nice hot bowl when I was down at the Farmer's market over the weekend. However, there was no Pho and I had to suffice with a mediocre bowl of Mexican tortilla soup.

I spontaneously ate at the Gumbo Pot on some random Tuesday night. It was goooood!! Unfortunately we came right before they closed so they didn't have everything available...but it was still good. I don't really have jambalaya very often, so it was definitely worth it. And yes, they have EVERYTHING. have fun scouting out some international food!
