only cafe around the tender-nob area that really cares for their products. the people are friendly and are knowledgeable about their products.
the place is really tiny and there's a large table that takes up about 2/3's of the dining. farm:table is very warm and homey.
support your local shops, forget starbucks!*
I just really loved the taste of a tuna - it's my favorite meat.
I ordered a tuna salad and it was absolutely fantastic and unique! They have big menu and when you eat here, you won't feel the guilt of eating unhealthy food. Visit this place is you are health conscious.
Best lunch that I have had in a while.
I had a spicy tuna salad over mixed greens with kiwi-strawberry juice, apple cauliflower soup and finished with a latte and chocolate hazelnut tart.
Everything was amazing, fresh and healthy.
If you're looking for a large place with a big menu, fancy ambience - a place to socialize and mingle - this is not it.
this place has one table and 3 new items everyday on the menu.
I had the apple bread, which was very tasty. The coffee was good, but not hot enough, so I am saving the last star for my next visit...
WooW.
Great little place to grab a quick biteeThe coffe was awesome, the bread pudding was delicious. The owner is very sweet.I hope they do great.:-)
They make the best lattes that I've ever had.
I'm never happy anywhere else now that I drink theirs.
Amazing coffee and espresso drinks. In a world being taken over by blubobblers, it's nice to taste coffee from another, equally delicious roaster.
The service is great and food is delicious looking (I have yet to try it).
Limited seating, both inside and out, but I'm not complaining. It adds to the charm of the place.
If there is a downside, it's that it's not the most inexpensive coffee in town, but then again, you get what you pay for, and at farm:table, you get great coffee.
If I were to open a small tiny cafe one day, I would plainly copy this place. Even just the idea of twittering daily specials that change everyday and that feature seasonal ingredients is a big plus for improving customer satisfaction.
The cappuccino was great and the food was fresh when we were there. I wish we had a branch of them down in LA.
OK, so you can't not notice that EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT HAS REVIEWED THIS PLACE THUS FAR....
....HAS GIVEN IT FIVE STARS.
For a reason.
This place is uber-cute, with an ambiance you just want to take home with you. It's super-small, it's the only one of it's kind, especially in that neighborhood....
The coffee is amazing. And I am a coffee snob. It's the only place I've found that does my wet capp with extra foam as well as Peet's.
The only offer 1 sandwich and 1 soup daily (or at least they did when I went), but it didn't matter. The sandwich was so good, the guy I came with got 2 of them.
The gave us little apples to eat with our food. Oh, yay! I told our server, "Thanks, Mom!"
They have cute outdoor tables. And purdy plants. And hipsterish staff that are open and not jaded.
Two words: A gem.
This is hands down the best coffee in the city!
The drinks are amazing, the staff is wonderful, and the food is worth it's weight in gold.
Just about everyday my brother and I trek from Pac Heights to Farm:Table to get an iced coffee, and little smoky.
The owners are sweet as can be, and the regulars here make it feel like home.
Anything, and everything they do oozes of quality ingredients, attention to detail, and a passion for what they do.
Seattle might have invented coffee shops but San Francisco's farm table has perfected making coffee.
farm table is a tiny neighborhood cafe with just a farm table. I ordered the latte and hard boiled eggs on baguette. YUMMY!
The latte was just perfect. The expresso can be overpowered by the foam milk if it's not done correctly, but at farm table they got it perfect. You could taste the coffee flavor all the way through the last drop.
I need to go back to SF in a couple of weeks, and you bet I'll pick a hotel close by just so I can go get my coffee at farm table.
I'm not one to knock Peets or Starbucks. They serve their purpose, and they're, for the most part, clean and well kept.
But even I have to admit that there's this feeling I get when I sit down at a Peets/S-bux to read a book... it's a kind of ho-hum "I'm at yet another Peets that looks like a Peets and has the typical Peets customers ordering the typical Peets drinks" feeling. You know what I mean? It's a lack of inspiration... and I guess it's to be expected when the decor and layout is so studied.
farm:table, on the other hand, couldn't be a more perfect example of what it means for a space to have personality, charm, and warmth. It's refreshing to stop by a place as a first-time customer, sit at the one and only communal table, and feel like you're welcome. The simple decor, the friendly staff, and the coziness of the space embody what most people want and appreciate in a local cafe.
The coffee tasted rich, the baked good I purchased was a nice complement to my drink, and I was able to read my book in a pleasant atmosphere that lacked pretension.
I'm sold.
i love this little spot! it's tucked in the tender nob, and tiny, cute and quaint as ever. there are a few tables in and outside to dine at, and otherwise you can do take away, or find a step at the surrounding buildings or a curb to perch on. i do fancy menus written on chalkboards, and farm:table lists the breakfast, sandwich and soup de jour daily. i like how they only have 3 things to choose from daily, and what they serve is simple yet scrumptious. last time i was there they had hard boiled eggs with bacon and a fig chutney on a baguette, and a creamy cheese topped with tomatoes and chives on a baguette, and soup of which i forget.
i hate to say that i detested my coffee. i ordered an almond milk latte, but something about it was all wrong. i couldn't even try to drink it. i should have trusted my gut and ordered it with regular milk -- the next time i will do so!
thanks to the SF chronicle's cheap eats, i found this place. i love the look from the outside in. super small little place with a large farm/communal table inside and two small tables outside.
i ordered the "toast of the day" which was outstanding a now a fav @ home. two thick pieces of crusty wheat bread, cream cheese, thinly sliced green apples and pomegranate seeds.
my latte was on point too and beautiful to the eyes. friendly staff. i'll see you again on my next visit!
Finally, a 5 star!
After getting tired of walking all the way to Starbucks, only to be greeted by a half-retarded staff and a line that only an idiot (read: me) would stand in, I knew I needed a change. Thanks to Gregor G., farm:table was recommended and it only took me 3 weeks to actually try it out.
Wow.
I asked if they could make an iced latte, and was told no, BUT, they could make me an iced coffee w/cream and sugar and I figured what the hell. And can I be any happier that I did? I think not. It's delicious and only $3.50 and I was in and out within 4 minutes. Now THIS is what a morning coffee run is supposed to be like.
Oh, and the workers? Pretty easy on the eyes. Ha.
Feeling groggy on a Saturday morning and desperate for some caffeine, I stumbled upon this place and was delighted to taste some of the most delicious espresso I've had...anywhere. I'll be back!
I was going to give this 4 stars and bitch about the small space, but then I remembered that one of the folks behind the bar walked over to the table and cleared out a swath of their regulars so we could sit, so the space was a non-issue. "They like it when I boss them around" is what she said.
There is one table full of hipsters, one bench along the wall, and two tables outside. The coffee was awesome, the bread pudding was delicious, and I got to show off the new Yelp monocle to my hip tablemates, who were very impressed. A fine way to start the day. Hope they do great!
My favorite place in the world (that's right, the world) to get coffee / espresso drinks and yummy food.
The lattes are the best I've ever had. The iced coffees are perfect for those rare warm San Francisco days. And the food is always delicious, inspiring and made with love (courtesy of Kate!) Don't be intimidated if it looks crowded inside, everyone if always very friendly about making room at the table!
You can check them out on twitter to see what they're serving for breakfast and lunch each day. Oh, and the homemade caramels are just to die for! I love love love farm:table.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Everthing here- unbelievable.
Staff, espresso, food, ambiance... everthing.
Go.
Sweet little one room location that has a down home feel on one of the best blocks in the TL.
Everything is made fresh as you order (even the whipped cream!) and the flavors are amazing. I had the carrot soup (vegan) which was soo yummy, I practically licked the bowl.
We had no problem with street parking, on a Saturday afternoon, which was a major bonus. Cash only.
You must try it for yourself.

Loved our lunch at Farm:Table.
Sunny outdoor table+Badoit+creamy tomato soup+stone fruit salad+ham and cheese baguette+lovely Kate= best lunch ever
So glad we finally came to visit. Can't wait to go back have more tasty snacks.
They also have amazing coffee and handmade treats.
I was on my way to Pearl's Burgers when I saw this new gem of a cafe looking all pretty and shiny amidst gloomy Post Street. I decided to stop in and was shocked to see that they served Verve coffee!! I haven't seen this since I visited my friends down in Santa Cruz and went to the Verve coffee shop!
The two people behind the counter were sooo nice and helpful. No emo college kids working here.. Just down-to-earth people who know their stuff about coffee! I told them how excited I was to find a place in SF with Verve coffee, and they mentioned that this is the first cafe in the city to sell it. It's incredibly drinkable coffee that is, in my opinion, better than Blue Bottle: sweet, clean, and smooth... Yes, this is your cue to go there NOW and try it!!
The table space inside is limited to one large community table (love this idea) and a few small tables out on the sidewalk. As for the food, I've only tried a lemon scone with my coffee so far, but I will gladly come back and work my way through all of their delicious treats. I am so happy to see this little spot on Post Street where its presence is well-needed!
I may have a new top-five favorite espresso spot in town. Farm:Table uses beans from Verve, a roaster based in Santa Cruz that rotates its blends (the one they're using is called "All City") on a seasonal basis (i.e., whatever is good and fresh, they use). It was a spicy shot, pulled short & thick, but without the syrupyness of your average double Ristretto. (Eliciting warm-fuzzy home in Pac-NW feelings, where the spicy Hairbender blend from Stumptown has always been a personal fave.)
I'll be back for the coffee and for what looks to be some fantastic lunch fare (daily rotating seasonal menu, all looking gorgeous in that simple and un-fussy but meticulously prepared way that focuses on quality of ingredients.)
I was told (not suggested, but TOLD) by my dear friend Tony Nash to come in. He raves about this place, so I figured "What the hell", right? I come down here for a late breakfast, and was completely impressed.
The place is a bit small, but do not let that fool you! The taste and quality of the food is completely amazing, and the service is insanely kind and considerate...totally not what I'm used to in this town, ya know?
Let's review...coffee was delicious. I mean...YUM! I ended up getting a slice of their boysenberry proud cake or coffee cake. Whatever it was, it was so good. Freshly made with a big scoop of homemade cream and a giant scoop of boysenberry preserves. AH! Heaven!
If you're in the area, definitely check it out. And if you're not in the area, get your ass there. You honestly will not be upset!
Best ice coffee, ever.
Cute spot on the sunny side of Post st.
Super friendly, great cookies, I'll be back.
There may be other places in the city where you can start a meal with Badoit and end it with a Bustelo Cool, but I haven't come across them. Liikewise, there may be other places in the city where the spot goes 2 for 2 on good lunches, and combines that with outdoor tables that (at least in Summer) face the sun, making for a great spot to eat, drink and watch traffic (including some pretty intrepid skateboarders) head down Post towards the square. But again, I haven't found one. And even if I did, Kate and Shannon wouldn't be there and neither would the awesome lattes in the glasses rather than cups or paper which allow the foam to rejoin the coffee ensuring a delicious drink to the bottom.
So, give it a shot. And if you sit outside, make sure when you're remarking about how good everything is, you say it just a bit louder when folks not in the know are walking by.
Tiny, cozy and comfortable. The coffee was delicious and exquisitely prepared with gourmet treats
A tiny gem of a place that I feel lucky to have stumbled into (onto?). Warm, knowledgeable staff brew up some exceptional coffee (complete with hearts in foam). Want to know more about what your beans have been up to? Just ask! They know! Top this off with a moist decadent scone (or any other tasty treat they serve- they have a couple of awesome house-made breakfast items), a cosy community table, and a large open window and you have an exceptionally happy customer.
Worth taking an extra walk just to be there.
A great tiny place that's big on taste! The coffee is excellent, and the food was tasty. It's coffee shop-esque so I really can't comment on the service (it's hard to screw that up), but all of the staff were really friendly and nice. Great not to have more disaffected art students making my coffee any longer.
Also, this spot is tiny. I've very glad that they went with the one large community table approach instead of trying to cram more small tables in there. Socialize, say hi to your neighbors, whatever.
A great spot I just hope that Yelp doesn't ruin it. Damn you Schrodinger!
A nice little respite in the heart of the city!
The coffee is delicious ... and served up in a warm and friendly style. (Oh so civilized cappuccino with a delicious little shortbread on the plate.) It's European coffee meets Californian quest for localization and quality.
The cakes and pastries are always to-die-for: rich, moist, comforting. the space is adorable: quaint and bright with a warm and comfortable interior.
Yay, yay on a fabulous little shop where one can have a sweet European coffee experience, step out of the street craziness for a few moments, and enjoy.
finally things are starting to look up for new establishments coming into the City, and FINALLY they are not all located in neighborhoods like the mission or hayes valley. i get it, you want a nice hipster/yuppie market/clientle because they will always be filling up your space, but some of us foodies don't live in those hoods or want to always go to the same area for a quick lunctime snack with that crowd. strollers, handle bar mustache's, and constantly taps on the iphone can really get on ones nerve when wanting a relaxed atmos' for a bite. sustainable and organic goods by the season for the downtown lunch hour, with a mixed clientle, and a comfortable setting. don't come in starving because it's not a gut-bomb type of place. welcome to the City farm:table, you sure are a treat.
Don't be intimidated by Kate, the remarkably foxy cuisinier. Or her gorgeous partner, Shannon, the barista.
Kate and Shannon serve up a welcoming and refreshing space to grab some perfectly-seasoned, expertly-prepared nosh and skillfully-brewed coffee in the heart of the Tendernob.
Enjoy seasonal, fresh, local ingredients and freshly-roasted, aromatic coffee around a beautifully crafted family-style wood table. Chat with good people and soak up some sun.
A perfect start to, or break from, your day.
Yummy food. Lovingly prepared coffee drinks. Super accommodating staff.
We couldn't decide and so they let us order breakfast and lunch at the same time. Definitely a tender spot in my nob for this place.
Great little place to grab a quick bite and an outstanding coffee drinks. Awesome staff.
farm:table is a great place to enjoy awesome coffee and tasty vittles, listen to a bunch of skinny 20- and 30-something web 4.0 dudes talk about twitternomics, and watch girls with ipods and big sunglasses walk by. highly recommended.
Shannon really knows his stuff. He assisted me in finding the perfect light roast for my foodie bf, and could helpfully compare them to Blue Bottle as he had worked there in the past. (He is also super nice and adorable.)
Too bad it's not in my hood, but then, if it were, I'd be living in the 'loin. ("Not that there's anything wrong with that.")
I sampled a little coffee there, and also got the bread pudding to go. I can't wait to come back.
Sweet new shop on Post Street run by some Blue Bottle Coffee Co. expats. Expertly-brewed coffee (they use Verve, from Santa Cruz) and pastries both savory and sweet; handmade caramels and candies to come. It's a small space, but gets great light--the front window opens out--with the Marzocco and food prep area taking up the back half, and a really handsome wood table with benches on all sides taking up the front. A really great addition to the neighorhood, and Kate and Shannon and Catherine are a terrific team.
Working on Post street in the lower Nob Hill is always interesting , but what it lacks is a place to grab something healthy and good to eat. The Farm:Table offers just the right choice, Kate always manages to create , ( yes I said it ...create) the most artistic and delicious morsels to satisfy the palette and your hunger. Her mate Shannon is the barista, and makes the best cup of coffee and fresh squeezed juices in the area. I failed to mention how friendly and adorable they are as well. I look forward to eating there every day.....It makes my day.
This place is great. I live fairly close, and I love that they twitter their daily AM and PM menus so I always consider their menu before thinking about my other options. The food that I have had so far has been amazing. The portions are a great size, and the prices are a bit expensive for my budget, but not for what you get in terms of quality food. I'm the type of person who loves to find a favorite item at every restaurant I go to, and stick with that one dish. Farm:Table isn't really a place where I can do that, but I'm ok with it because their food never lets me down. The coffee is REALLY good too, however, it's expensive so I don't get it regularly.
There are several things that make this place special. Namely, the service is impeccable. There is no coffee service with a scowl or 'f*#! you' for trying to get something to eat here (you know that attitude that seems to poison so many san francisco coffee houses). The service is always pleasant. The cloth napkins. The food. The coffee. The community table. Everything just seems to work. Making a leisurely mid-day visit to farm:table is like getting a massage, going to therapy, and returning home to the excited greeting of a loved one all wrapped up in one. The prices seem just right for the quality of the food and drink. I wish I could visit daily.
