The BEST prices ever on produce and meat. The bakery is pretty awesome too...hot, fresh rolls six for a dollar! If you can get over the fact that it's mighty ugly on the outside...and just as ugly on the inside...you'll be happy you did your shopping at Farm Fresh.
Say it with me: Ralph's sucks. Sure, you can get a shiny, wax-coated Red Delicious there, but what if you want real food? And what if you don't want to pay $.59 for a lime?
Cue Farm Fresh Rancher's Market, the best grocery store in Hollywood. Not only is the produce "farm fresh" (who are the ad wizards who came up with this one?), but it's ridiculously cheap - six lbs of yellow onions for $1, four lbs of plantains for $1. Those are not exaggerations.
And where else are you gonna get that honeycomb tripe for your Sunday BBQ?
They specialize in all foodstuffs Latin American, but cater to the Armenian crowd as well. Pretty much anything you could ever want for a Mexican feast (dozens of varieties of dried peppers, banana leaves, that nasty shit that passes for Mexican candy, etc) is available in spades.
I suggest picking up a cow tongue and cooking up some lengua tacos. Seriously.

I love this place for all of the wrong reasons and a few of the right reasons.
When I moved to LA, I tried all of the major grocery chains: Ralph's, Albertson's, Von's, Pavillion's, and Whole Foods. They all had their upsides but none of them grabbed me and forced me to make them my go-to grocer. I settled for Albertsons because of their broad product range and moderate price.
Then I found Farm Fresh Ranch Market. It looks scary from the outside and doesn't get any more welcoming on the inside. It smells weird, doesn't look particularly clean, has very narrow aisles, and doesn't carry a wide assortment of the type of products (cereal, candy, toiletries) that I've come to expect at a large grocer but what they do have makes up for it.
Their meat and produce departments are vast and super-cheap. Things like chicken breasts, pork chops, broccoli, cherries, and potatoes are often half the price of the major chains. Not only that, they usually have a better variety, especially of meats (you're not going to find chicken feet and whole beef tongue on display at Ralph's). Sure, the meat might be packaged poorly and the fruit and veggies often bruised significantly. But that's part of the fun and adventure. I save so much here I can afford to indulge in their huge selection of ethnic (and by that I mean Mexican) foods.
Be forewarned, they don't let you take the carts into the parking lot so as you check out you have to grab one of the carts that they're stolen from other stores to get to your car. This just adds to the charm!
