A unique-tasting pizza. Thin, crisp and delicious.

They have great service. The girl that took my order was very polite and made sure to get my order right.

I haven't been inside the actual store yet (only ordered in to work), but I'd definitely give them another try.

Farinella, located on Worth Street near Broadway, is a downtown Manhattan lunch hotspot so naturally I had to see why. I got there before the lunch rush and ordered up an entire margarita pie. Now, Farinella's pizza is not your traditional round pie rather its a Napolitano, just like chef/owner Alberto Polo Cretara.

To my dismay, the pizza was not brought out in its true splendor (pictured here:
http://farm4.static.fl... g) but cut up and shoved into a pizza box. I jokingly called that the first strike. Unknown to me, there would be many more to come. The first bite left me asking, "Where the hell is the flavor?" Strike two. Their margarita pizza did not even have any basil leaves on it, what the hell?

Yes, both the sauce and cheese (including their pathetic drizzle of olive oil) left be begging for the traditional pizza condiments (Oregano, red pepper flakes, parmesan cheese). Unfortunately for me, Farinella only has one red pepper flake shaker. Yes, one. Third strike, Farinella, you're out.

I was actually forced to sprinkle their table salt on my pizza. Unheard of I know, but sadly this was the case. The only thing that Farinella does well is their crust, flat, cripsy on the outside and yet still fluffy and bread like in the inside. In short I would have never thought that someone would actually 'beat' out John's Pizzeria for dead last on my list, surprisingly Farinella did just that.

Farinella isn't the best pizza in NY as they claim outside (its actually a lie on their part, they've never been called the best by anything I've found), but it is tasty pizza.

Went there with a friend and I had a Margaritan slice, while he had a DOC and a vegetable slice (forget the name).  The highlight by far is the crust, which is crisp and flavorful.  The cheese however was weak, and the sauce could've been more flavorful.  If I lived nearby I could realistically see myself ordering a full pie, if for no other reason than to see them bring a four foot long pizza to my place.  Space is good for a quick bite, but thats what Roman pizza is intended to be.  Service was very good, considering this is essentially a slice joint.

If nothing else, the prices are very cheap for a hot new pizzeria, so its definitely worth a shot for a quick lunch if you're in the area.

Tried Farinella for the first time via delivery from Seamless Web.  Ordered around 8:30 and it arrived under the 30-40 min estimate -- which meant the pizza was still warm.  Was amused by the delivery guy trying to maneuver out the very long box in the narrow hallway.  We got a half  palam of prosciutto and a slice of the DOC.  I tried the DOC first and that ruined me for the prosciutto.  Both pizzas visually reminded me of the ones I've had in Italy that were very light on the sauce and the cheese.  The DOC had a wonderful tangy flavor and the prosciutto was still moist, which is nice change of place from alot of places that burn it into bacon.   Would definitely try again and maybe even schlep over there myself!

I  love the pizza. I ordered pizza for my school group. They delivered 6 pizzas within 45 minutes at exactly the time I had requested. The Prociutto Pizza was amazing. The thin crust was awesome. This may be my favorite pizza in the city.

I'm a little torn about this place.  I almost gave it an extra star because the neighborhood it is in is so bereft of good food.
On the other hand, there is already way too much grade inflation on yelp so I'm going to give it what it deserves: 3 stars (which should indicate that it is pretty good).
The crust is the highlight-crispy and thin and perfectly done with a nice olive oily flavor.
The letdown is the toppings-i had the potato and the roma tomato with arugula, both were bland bland bland.  I appreciate the use of fresh ingredients that should not be overwhelmed by seasoning, but this place went too far - how about a pinch of pepper or salt?!

Still, some of the best food in the area.

I am in love with my wife and my wife is in love with a fat man.
She works close to this pizza place and started telling me all about it - how it is the closest thing to pizza that you get in Italy.
She lovingly brings her big fat daddy pizza from here home to me (in a brown bag).  This is the best pizza in the city....and I love goddamn pizza.
Farinella has reaffirmed my love for my wife and I'm thinking of renewing my vows here on our anniversary.  That's how great the pizza here is.
If you don't like this pizza you're probably a jerk-off (or Irish).

So I call to place my order... and on the opposite end I get this voice, quite possibly a voice I will never forget... the Italian accent... the way this man taking my order spit sex as he spoke... it was a heavenly moment...

The pies are a great deal, 10 slices (and normally 3 bucks each) so a 24 buck pie is pretty good deal and besides it comes specially packed, almost like a design of some sort... they also put the pizza box in a pizza big, long bag so u don't have to balance the box as you text (pretty thoughtful huh)...

so then I ask this sexy Italian immigrant on the phone what the special of the day was to which he replied - croquettes stuffed with prosciutto and love... SOLD two please, 2.50 each and good enough to use an appetizer for 3 - 4 people.... MmmM they were different and worth it...

The Napoletan Calzone - enough ricotta, enough Parmesan, enough prosciutto, and the sauce was yummy (the bread is prob the key here as it is in their slice)... i didn't quite taste the salame in the calzone however it was great and at 9 bucks a pop it should be... also big enough to share with 2 maybe even 3 skinny people...

Signore Farinelli, you were originally a rapper how do you know how to make such great pizza????? Also, i seriously hope the girl working behind the counter is related to you otherwise I am boggled by your decision to hire her; she has proved to be an idiot 3 for 3 times I have visited you...

Decent pizza, but my mushroom slice could have been a tad doughier. The crust was like a cracker. Wasn't in love with the sauce.

Aaaaand that's about all I have to say. I'd go back if I have a craving for pizza, but there are so many other places around here I'd try first.

I'm increasingly delighted with Farinella on each return visit. On my first try, the toppings on the potato pizza were a bit bland, but the flavorful crust made up for it in spades.

I've learned that the eggplant slice is really where it's at - the thinly sliced eggplant sort of melts into the pizza, and the sauce and cheese are light enough that you actually taste the eggplant. The plain slice is a good choice to round things out. My coworkers had nothing but good things to say about the various panini, which I have yet to try.

HORRIBLE!!!
The pizza was not good.
They overcharged me AND tried to give me change of a $10 rather than the $20 I gave them.
They charged me $3 for a slice that looked like an Ellios frozen pizza AND wan't even as good as an Ellio's!
They said it was a margaritta slice BUT there was no fresh mozzarella and no fresh basil!!!
This place serves crap
Don't waste your time.

More authentic Roman pizza in NYC.  Opened by an Italian rock star cum baker, this spot boasts great pizza and amazing looking darkly baked calzones.

I had the pizza with potatoes, and mozzerella cheese as well as the zucchini mushroom slice.  Both came to $6.75.  Any serious pizza person should check out this pizza.

Crispy crust along the lines of Sullivan Street bakery/Grandaisy with lots of flavor due to all imported ingredients except the flour.  Not as doughy as Golosi (near Grand Central) which is more pizzalike,  this is almost more of a baked good though absolutely fabulouso.

I went here after looking for pizza places in the area. This place sounded interesting so I checked it out.

When you find the place, you're greeted by the scary looking Italian guy in his stylish hat. Inside, they have a bunch of tables for the sit-in crowd, but I was taking mine to go.

I ended up getting a Doc slice ($3.80) and a Prosciutto slice ($3.80). The menu says that the Doc is made with tomatoe sauce, fresh Italian buffalo mozzarella, parmesan cheese, and basil. The Prosciutto is Italian smoked ham, mozzarella, and a pinch of black pepper. I liked both of them but I preferred the Prosciutto since the ham is really good and I'm not really a fan of tomato sauce in pizza. Fucking thing rocks. The Doc slice was good, but it had a generic pizza taste.

I would recommend NOT getting one of the end slices. There's a bit too much crust. I love crust, so that's saying something. The girls behind the counter were quick and friendly. I'll definitely be going back for lunch soon.

So I finally came back to grab a slice. I got the mushroom. The bread (and crust) were delicious, very thin. Only complaint is that it could have used a bit more cheese, but I am a cheese whore, so I guess I'm biased.

All in all, very yummy. Reminded me of the pizza I used to have in ole Napoli.

Tucked into the bustle of the courts and federal buildings is Farinella, a small pizza restaurant that boasts authentic Italian pizza with "no additives, no animal fats, locally produced and organic ingredients" and also claims to be "highly digestible."  Sounds good to me.

According to New York Magazine, the Roman rapper (yes, that's right) who started the place uses a special triple-decker electric oven.  There is no door into the kitchen so you can look right in to see the long pizzas being created.

I ordered a slice of margherita and a slice of mushroom.  The slices were sizable - about 6 inches by 3 inches.  The margherita was right out of the oven, but the mushroom had been sitting out for a while.  They offered to warm it up for me, which they did by placing the slice on a panini press.  Interesting, but not very effective.  The pizza was very good; the crust was a perfect combo of crispy and chewy, and the sauce and cheese were mild but very delicious.  I liked how I could taste the olive oil on each slice.  The mushrooms were sweet and fresh.

Even better, the price is totally reasonable.  The margherita slice was $2.75 (pretty normal these days for a regular NYC slice), and the mushroom slice was $3.

It seems like they haven't quite mastered the whole getting-people-in-and-out thing at lunch (they just opened so it makes sense).  There are about a dozen seats, and many people were standing.  It took a while for my group of 4 to get through the line even though there were only 2 people ahead of us.  Plus, I like my pizza hot - there must be a better way to keep it warm or to warm it.

I'm sure I'll be back as I often have to work in the area.  I'm not sure I would come with a group again, but I would definitely come in to grab a slice by myself (oh, and the paninis looked really good, too).

Delicious and simple pizza that uses organic ingredients.  Very different from typical NY pizza.  Owners are straight up Italians and make their pizza with a very thin crust, many without tomato sauce and many without much cheese.  I highly recommend the potato and onion, the siciliana (eggplant) and zucchini slices.

There's not much seating so you are better off getting take out and sit in the open space in front of the court house or Javits Federal building when weather permits.  Also, they don't heat their slices long enough so make sure to request that they leave your slice in the toaster a bit longer if you like it hot.

It's easy to spend more than $9 for two slices and a soda but overall, Farinella is a great addition to this area.  I wished it was around when I worked down the block for four years.

The arugula and cherry tomato slice is a fresh, artisian style, flavorful slice on a crispy light crust and a good snack for $3.50.

I believe I was waited on by the man on the store logo. Hes an elegant gentleman who in and of himself creates a unique pizza ordering experience.

Next time, I'm planning to try one of the rice or pasta dishes. They look quite special as well.

One of the best slices of pizza I've had in NYC.  It's not in the best location in Tribeca, but I can see it as definitely being a go-to spot for the lunch crowd in the area.

The place is very charming and authentic Italians serve you!  I tried the prosciutto slice which one of the managers said had a different consistency than the other slices.  It was a lot crunchier and the sliced prosciutto was simply amazing.  There was some cheese sprinkled on top.  Very simple and classic.  No tomato.  I also tried the margherita, which the woman behind the register claimed was hot out of the oven -- it wasn't really.  Kinda cold actually, but still very good.

There is also a selection of Italian beverages.  Overall, I think the place is very good.  Prices are very reasonable and dare I say that it might rival my beloved Fascatis as best slice I've had in the 5 boroughs.  Ok, well maybe best slice of non-new york style pizza in the area.  The place is still new but I really hope it does well.  If I'm ever in Tribeca or far enough downtown and I'm craving a slice, I'll definitely stop by here again.

I found myself with nothing to do after work last Friday evening. I'd read the review of Farinella's in New York magazine and am a massive fan on roman style pizza (esp. potato) so thought I'd give it a go. I was the only one in there apart from the two guys working there (one was the owner I think).  I ordered the potato pizza and a prosciutto croquette.  They were both fantastic! The pizza was great though might have done with a touch more oil on top and maybe a little rosemary but was otherwise excellent.  The croquette was as good as any I've ever had...and far better than most.  Crispy on the outside and rich, creamy and velvety on the inside.  Absolutely great.

I will definitely go back!

I've only been here a few times, but I'm hooked on that prosciutto pizza.  You can taste the quality in the ingredients, and it doesn't ooze like your NY style pizza (or the Whole Foods variety, for that matter).  Added bonus - the last time I was there, I got to hear a friend spout off some Italian to flirt with the guy behind the counter.  Good times. "Manga!" she told me.  Then I think they made fun of me for only downing one piece, but I'm not sure.  Hmmm.....

I immediately came here when it opened because there is no decent pizza around work.  The concept is more high-brow than your normal pizza joint- use of local ingredients, etc.   The slices are thinner than your average slice and they charge around $3 a slice.  I got the mushroom...excuse me..."funghi" (it was listed as such, not that I would normally order pizza in Italian) and it was a lot nicer in texture and flavor than a regular mushroom pizza.  I didn't even miss the lack of cheese on it.  I will definitely go back for the other toppings.  For a decent lunch, you'll need to order two or even three at a time.  I made the mistake of ordering just one and had to raid my cereal bars at work to make up for it later.

This is exactly what the neighborhood needs.  There are plenty of puffy-crusted, red sauce slinging, greasy pizza joints in the neighborhood.  Farinella is the welcome alternative.  Thin crust pies, delicious and fresh toppings (I had mushroom and zucchini and then returned for the eggplant) as well as paninis brimming with fresh arugula and calzones begging to be bitten into.  It's run by Italians who know how it should taste, and take pride in doing it right.  There is no wonder why this place already has a following after being open only a few months.

Great thin crust with just the right balance of crunch and chewy goodness. We sampled the tomato/cheese, prosciutto, zucchini and mushroom, and arugula with grape tomatoes - all were well balanced, and leftovers reheated well in the toaster oven. The man and woman behind the counter were polite and helpful - a rarity at many counter service places in the neighborhood. All in all, a great Saturday afternoon experience.

A few quick notes. At the moment they are open Monday thru Saturday until 6 or 7pm (sorry - don't remember exactly, so do call to confirm!). However, extended hours are imminent, as are Sundays and delivery (according to the nice people behind the counter). The whole storefront is warmly lit and inviting, with sunny, yellow walls, and an amazing smell of freshly baked bread and toasted cheese. Definitely worth a visit!
