UPDATE: they stopped serving their unique version of tater tots. Quite a disappointment, but still a favorite spot with good food!

Fardowners is an awesome gastropub in an adorable, small town, with good food, killer music and good vibes, friendly people all over the place.
Hey, I like to go to bars. I enjoy fine spirits, craft beers, gourmet food... I'm from a big city, I'm well traveled - I get around man. What I really like and find to be so rare in the world today is a good bartender. A good bartender takes care without any effort on the patrons part. They know their customers and give them quality, personalized customer service. S/he pays attention to the little details, has finesse, knows food and bev product well enough to talk about it with intelligence and sets the tone for your visit. Fardowners has this bartender!
I don't know his name (tall, thin, facial hair, bandanna on head), I don't know if anyone has told him this - but your are a great asset to this cute place, keep up the good work.

Review from Whitney R.
Definitely another one of those "this is what Yelp is all about" moments; we were heading to Starr Hill Brewery and wanted some food in our belly before the beer extravaganza. Checked yelp and found Fardowners. Headed in on a Sunday around 11:30 and were immediately seated. It was world cup season and it was on all of the screens. They are literally right around the corner from Starr Hill and proudly serve their beer. We ended up ordering some sodas and unfortunately the mix was WAY off, a lot of carbination, a little soda taste.
I had the vegan scramble which was way tasty, if not a little over salted. The tofu was almost non existent though, and I wished it had been served with chunks of tofu vice what looked like a little sprinkled on top. Hubby had a mexican dish with a strange pink salsa. He did eat a lot of it though, but again, said it was very salty.
Service was descent enough, the servers were more concerned with a baby who had joined his family at the restaurant and were parading him all over.
That said, if you're looking for a place to stop on your way to the brewery for a cheap meal, this is your place. -
Review from Jim D.
Charlottesville, VA
Dinner for a family of four for under eighty bucks (with drinks, including tip) = not bad in this day and age. The train theme carries through to the paper my daughter was given to occupy her time - with a train to color, naturally.
Outstanding fresh bread with three home-made sauces - raspberry, horseradish mustard and honey mustard - all of which were very tasty. Appetizer were corn fritters - five fried fritters that looked quite a bit like hush puppies - having five to split amongst the four of us provided an opportunity for negotiating.
The house salads were fresh and good, as were the dressings. The meals came out, well-timed in their arrival.
The kids' mac and cheese was quite good (and good the next day as well) and resembled a cheese soup with noodles. Around the rest of the white-clothed table were pork chops with asparagus and mashed potatoes, grilled meatloaf with the same sides and a monstrous chicken pot pie with a crust of mashed potatoes - all of which did nothing but encourage us to return.
Staff were friendly and helpful and the owner came over to inquire if "everything was alright," and the selection of wines, beers was impressive as were the choices of local wines and beers - that we have two breweries so close is quite nice.
As an aside, having Jerry Garcia Band as background music was an added bonus.Listed in: My Neighborhood

Being adventurous, my wife and I headed into Charlottesville, VA via the small railroad town of Crozet (pronounced CrowZay - it's French you know). By sheer luck we found a fairly new restaurant called Fardowner's on The Square. It's a relatively small place, tastefully decorated with pastel hues. The staff is very friendly and aims to please. The locals must think that this place is a find considering that almost all the tables were taken. No doubt not many out-of-towners have discovered it yet. The proof-of-the-pudding is, of course, the food. And this certainly did not disappoint. For a pair of spoiled east coast liberals splitting their time between New York city and the mountains of Pennsylvania, the wonderful taste of the crabcakes and pork chops was sheer delight. The crabcakes would hold their own next to any world-renowned version served on the Chesapeake bay while the pork chops were moist under a properly balanced glaze of cranberry sauce. If we lived closer, we'd most likely become regulars.
