Farallone Inn
7 reviews for Farallone Inn
UPDATE:
the innkeeper quoted me $165 +$25 for our dog. so i was a bit shocked when i saw a $250 charge on my bank statement. when i called, she said the room was $175 and she had told me that (she clearly told me $165, which i wrote down). she also failed to mention there was an additional $25 deposit for the dog too. well, isn't a deposit refundable, i asked? she agreed to refund that but these are really unacceptable business practices. i don't think i would stay here again.

we stayed here on saturday night after we went to the half moon bay pumpkin fest. a little mini-vacation. DOG FRIENDLY!!! the room was very spacious but oddly decorated. we had a big patio out back too, nice touch, but nowhere to really walk the dog. the walls were paper thin. i could hear our friends, staying directly above us, peeing. seriously. the jacuzzi was nice but the shower head didn't work, so i didn't shower on sunday. for $165 a night (we had room 8), it was fine, but definitely not a pampering experience. the innkeeper was really nice but the place is a little quirky. despite the thin walls, i slept well (also in part due to lots of pumpkin ale at the pumpkin fest) and there didn't seem to be much traffic, so i didn't hear street noise. none of the light switches worked either so the entire room was lit by one lamp. tons of closet space if you needed to ever move in there for like a month. and hey, there's cable!
As I scanned the list of B&B's in Half Moon Bay and realized I'd have to forgo groceries for a week if I wanted to have an overnight stay, I was thrilled to find the unthinkable: a clean, well-lit B&B with a nautical feel and reasonable rates.
Add to the mix jacuzzis in every room, and my boyfriend and I were sold.
Upon arrival, however, the "clean, nautical feel" of the exterior as featured on the website had transmogrified into an Astroturf wonderland of ceramic lions and wonky garden statues.
The "well-lit" room we'd selected was a dank, Gorey-esque hollow straight out of Masterpiece Theatre... one of the episodes where the protagonists don't fare so well after their nightcaps.
We hastily upgraded to the third-floor suite, where the furniture that had looked so stately in 1995 had been half-heartedly covered by an enlarged tea cozy - the sofa itself quite possibly having been mauled by said ceramic lions.
The jacuzzi was... cozy. However, we folded in with little trouble, we being devout yoga practitioners.
The owners were lovely people - but then again, my parents taught me to see good in just about everyone, and when I really think about it, it's unconscionable to promote such false advertising.
So - the bottom line is, your hard-earned money is much better spent going the extra mile at a more expensive B&B.

We would never book here again.
We booked this place while in Half Moon Bay, having found it on the internet. We were extremely disappointed. The rooms smell, they're oddly decorated, and the curtains and windows are paper thin. We hung up every spare piece of fabric over the windows to get some semblance of darkness.
Best of all, it's right next to a gas station, and you can literally hear the 'beep beep beep' of folks entering pin codes well into the evening.
I can't imagine what this place would be like in the winter. It must be freezing inside.
I happened to book this place BEFORE reading any reviews. So after I reserved a room (8) I checked out these yelp reviews and was mortified. Also when we got there the desk lady asked us to look at the room before we stayed. I was worried. So I was expecting the worst when we arrived but I was very surprised to see a big room that was clean, smelled fine (a little like chlorine, but hey that means clean right)
I was in the room furthest from the highway and I don't recall hearing even one car go by.
We I didn't hear or even see any t guest's and my girlfriend and I slept in and weren't interested in any breakfast.
There was a note in the bathroom stating that the jacuzzi was not to be used for water conservation purposes. No biggie.
The porch was a decent touch. It is shared with room 7 but there were no guests there so we had it to ourselves.
Pictures on website are accurate.
All in all I felt I got a good deal, the staff was friendly, and I would honestly stay here again. It's no ritz but if you want to pay an extra $200 to spend the night with the rest of pretentious California and get a smaller room with "thick curtains" and no character, be my guest. I enjoyed my stay here.
AVOID THIS PLACE.
My husband tried to surprising me for the weekend. He booked in this "supposedly" heavenly B&B. As soon as we arrived the place looked already really old, uncleaned and smelled bad. We decided to go ahead and spend the night there anyway, it was already late Saturday night. We walked into our 214$ room and we were totally disgusted ! the room was big but so uncleaned and smelled even worst. It was clear that the carpet Hadn't;t been vacuumed in years and that the owner tried to cover the dirt with rugs and stuff. The look of the room was even worst. We could'nt;t watch out of the windows because they were too dirty too. We decide to leave and ask for re credit our visa. The owner charged us 50$ cancellation even though on a sign by the door it was clearly written 40$. We fought to have 40$ back and we left saying that it was a steal to charge people for 214$ room for such a unhealthy ,noisy (it' s on the main road.highway) place ! go to the Montara hostel instead ! you get your own private room for 63$, ocean view

Interior could use some work. Smells a bit funky, and doesn't have an "inn" feel to it.

i might have been expecting a little much out of my first bed and breakfast thing, but dude. overall, for the classification as a "value" lodging spot - it's ok.
but, for the services you get... it's not alright. for the price you pay (unless you're an amazing negotiator), it's superbly not alright. all in all, passable and workable. see what you can do at the other places before you go here.
here are some notes:
* the inn keeper's daughter(?) atha - really nice and friendly.
- jacuzzi fits one. it's a great fit for one. powerful.
- the room was very large.
- there're a bunch of unprotected wireless networks to use.
- ethernet ports in room (though i didn't check if they worked).
- eclectic furniture selection... and i think random stained glass placement.
- dual heating/ac wall unit in the room.
regarding other reviews:
- the smell you smell when you walk in is NOT curry. it's a mix of incense and other stuff. just know that it's there. your brain'll phase it out within a few minutes.
- duct tape on the windows? yep. but the blinds are almost always closed so you can't really see it. but, they are thin, energy inefficient windows.
- dust on stuff? sorta. in the crevices. and more like fuzz than dust.
- ocean view. again. sorta. you get a sliver if you're in the lower rooms and none if you're on the street level. there's a high treeline directly across from the inn. you get most of the view if you're in room 1. room 6 and 3 also face the ocean.
- breakfast? what.. breakfast? there's lots of coffee, though.
- you're on the east side of pch 1 (or cabrillo hwy at that point). so... you'll have to hop across traffic to hit up the beach. well, hop across traffic, walk through a few paths, wander a little bit, and then you're at the beach. oh, go north a little and you're at the state beach. if you made a mistake and head south, you'll end up in a bunch of people's driveways.
- the photo posted is mostly correct. it looks brown/yellow, but that's due to the lighting. the place is actually brown/greenish. the more accurate colors are in the bottom fencing(?) in the shade - e.g., the steps. interior halls are reddish. the room i was in was a paler green.
- i think the common area got converted into a private living space. so the breakfast part of the b&b takes place in the hallway. by the stairs. across from the office opening (with the little sign that reads $40 for cancellations, when they mean $50 even 5 full days ahead of time).
at least you're close to a gas station and caffe lucca. yay? for a while, i thought i was a reviewer like fishy t. where everything was good. then i came here and went blah.
