Review #1069.
More like 4.5 stars.
Let your imagination run wild, without your wallet run skinny.
Creativity is calling.
I was recommended to come here to get the cellophane bags for my holiday cookies. They have quite a few different sizes and also larger treat bags.
And what hidden treasures I found!
This place specializes more in dried flowers and leaves, and tons of ribbons and mesh cloths that are add-on(s) for decorations. All these are great for your personal projects of home decoration.
Everything is so inexpensive and only a dollar or 2 here and there unless you are like me, buying in bulk, then it will be even cheaper! And with the help of Elsa, she provided some great ideas how to mix and match using different color tissue paper and ties and even pipe cleaners to create a complementary and eye-catching individualized gifts.
Lots and lots of themed party items, from Hello Kitty, to other American cartoons, as well as for baby shower, weddings.
Multiple aisles of ribbons and mesh cloth gift wrapping that can bring a personal touch to your personalized gifts. Add a teddy bear for care too.
Accompany with all the little tag cards of different occasions. As well as different decoration that can be added into a treat bag before you tie it with a colorful star wrapped twist. Or if you want to add a hand bouquet wrapped with lace.
They also have an isle of all sorts of candles, unscented so if you want to do your own scent this will be an excellent foundation.
With Christmas just around the corner (religious or not they have them all!), they decorated the back side with tons of life like Christmas trees, which look quite real, and eliminate the need to recycle the real trees because you can reuse (save money), and minimize the cleanup post holidays. They carry tons of decorations that can add to the tree, not just the colorful and gigantic shiny balls, but the flowers and leaves (painted or you can get paint to do it yourself.) They even carry a few Hello Kitty and SF glass blown ones. Add a couple deer headbands to be more charming.
Because it's a true all year around party store and the huge size of the place, if you want to plan ahead of certain gifts, say Valentine's Day, or even next Halloween, they keep them around. It's almost timeless.
Yes, this is not all prettied up fancy looking dust free (right off from highway) and slightly tired looking, but most items are so well wrapped in boxes that once you open the items, they all look great. That is also how they can reduce the costs you are paying.
And don't forget to look up where some items are hanging from the very high ceiling. -

Off the entrance to the 280, Fantastico is an old school emporium of decorative details covering all your typical event needs- and then some.
As you enter, it's like a Party City on the right and a Michaels on the left. In between those are several aisles of candles, Christmas items, colored tissue paper, googly eyes, other fun random items and faux silk/plastic flowers in every imaginable variety. There are a few DIY items such as wires, glues and tapes but not on the scale of a Michaels.
All the way to the left is a separate section with dried flowers/pots/vases which is also where a bathroom is, should you worry about managing your needs while browsing through the many items. Or wanting to wash your hands after shopping here because it is DUSTY. Allergy sufferers be warned. -

This is an old school, last-century party supply store + fake plant and flower extravaganza. If you need something with leaves, but that's not living, I have a feeling you'll find it here. There is also an aisle of candles, items for wedding crafts, and lots of Christmas ornaments/decorations. And if you like pinatas, you're in luck. They had a wide variety of them, from cowboy boots to cartoon characters.
I was interested in the party supplies (decent selection -- not high end, but not super expensive either). They were organized by theme (Tiki/Hawaii / Pirate / Mardi Gras etc.) and while the items in each group were not extensive, you could put together a decent party out of what they had on hand. They also had napkins and plates in solid colors in just about every hue.
The costume area was very small -- just a few to choose from and not many sizes, but you could piece together something from the party sections -- e.g viking hat and wig, or a cow hat and bell, if you weren't looking for the whole outfit. .I bet they have more in stock around Halloween.
I was going to get some wrapping paper -- but it was way overpriced, outdated/ugly and sold in big rolls to compound the mistake if you bought on a whim. $17.90 for a roll? No thanks. However, they did have a reasonably-priced, nice selection of colored tissue paper, which is what I ended up getting.
The staff wasn't particularly helpful -- a lot of them were working in comparison to the number of customers, but not one said "hello" or offered to help me find something when I was wandering around a bit lost and dazed. Not a biggie, because I eventually found what I needed, and it's not like I need a personal crafting consultant or anything. However, the guys at the register were doing some kind of inventory (as opposed to helping ring up people, and by "people", I mean me). I had to wait until they counted two boxes of weird little decorative items and wrote the totals on a 1950s carbon paper invoice "machine" before they rang me up.
I will be back, though, because it's convenient and has a LOT of stuff, so I'm sure to find something next time I'm in a theme-party crunch. -

I am addicted to Diddams in Mountain View so was a little biased when I came in here. I was blown away by the selection and VERY good prices (compared to Diddams). It has a warehous-y industrial feel so it's not as polished as other party stores. The men working at this location are nice and helpful when searching for things. We came in before closing and I didn't feel rushed at all. I can't wait to plan another party just to come back here. If you like party planning this will make you feel like a kid in a candy store, especially if you are used to more expensive places.

Wow, they really do have everything you would need to outfit your party/celebration. I wandered through the aisles for almost an hour just brainstorming future uses for their products. From Christmas to Halloween, Flower arranging, birthday parties.. heaven. They have a huge variety of napkins/plates/cups in different colors- perfect for matching themes.
Minus 1 star for hours.. they close at 5:30 on weekdays which makes it tough to get there after work. -

This is a professional-grade industrial strength bulk item party store. If you want some paper napkins and maybe a lei, and find crafting or creative solutions intimidating, or just want somebody else to do the work and hand you a matched party package - go somewhere else. If the idea of a warehouse full of silk plants and party tiaras and disco balls and wedding cake toppers and tulle trim and Christmas ornaments makes your craft senses tingle and your hands itch for your glue gun, come here. And don't wait for an excuse, because knowing what's here will come in handy (and give you Ideas).
Wheelchair accessible, but the aisles can be a bit narrow and it's sometimes hard to find staff when you need them. But when you do, they're very helpful.
The entrance has one of those "stop you from driving here" waist-high steel pillars, and on my first visit I thought I wouldn't be able to go inside because the bap between steel pillars was too narrow. Turns out those suckers unscrew from the floor and let me in just fine.
I have forgotten if the parking lot out front includes wheelchair parking - I think so? I take MUNI or roll there myself. Check the hours before you go, they're early types. And you're going to want extra time to be distracted by the amazing array of stuff. Last time, in addition to the stuff I went there for, I came home with stuffed animal eyes, craft wire, and a loaf of fake bread. (And yet it only now just occurred to me that my loaf of bread needs eyes. Go figure.) -

Story Time
Martha Stewart gets Lady Gaga pregnant, but Martha's not ready to be tied down. Martha's the star quarterback, and a bunch of colleges are going to the Big Game to watch her play and perhaps recruit her. She has so many hopes and dreams that she can't just throw away because of a "mistake" with the head cheerleader.
Martha's mayor dad wants Lady Gaga to have an abortion before the whole town finds out, but Gaga's ultra religious mother forbids her.
So, in the dark of night, Gaga's family smuggles her out of that little podunk town of 2,500 and bring her to California, the home of the brave and the land of the free, and settle her in San Francisco to give birth to that Martha/Gaga hybrid.
She names this baby Fantastico, and he grows up to be the most wonderful and all-inclusive one-stop shop to get the gaudiest, baubliest and celebratory decorations for any of your most festive occasions and home decorating needs, at the best prices! -
Review from Katy H.
I needed a red afro wig STAT! In addition to lawn ornaments, home accessories and random odds and ends, Fantastico has a fantastic selection of wigs, costumes, face paint, clown noses, and basically everything you'd need to host or attend a fun themed party. What's more fantastico than that?

The holidays of Fall and Winter are approaching and my focus starts shifting from shorts and sun to home and hearth and first up is Halloween which Fantastico will focus me on some of the great possibilities of design, decor and fun for special occasions and the holiday's. Fantastico is barn like, but without the spaciousness because every inch is packed with decorations and costumes and they've got several of everything for any and every event. Prices tend to be high in my opinion, largely because much of what they sell is designed for a single use and probably gets tossed after the event it was purchased for. No matter what you go there for, it's going to be a challenge to leave without a basket full of things for events that may never even happen. A very fun place to shop.

This has been a "go-to" place for many parties...then I realized that was many many moons ago...back in the high school days... Fast forward and I'm beyond underwhelmed - actually, very disappointed. Selection isn't great and the prices are not very low.
We came out empty handed and wished we had went Michael's or World Market instead. -

The name says it all. This is THE place to go for high quality crafting materials. I found literally everything I needed for my predesigned centerpieces for my company holiday party. We are able to make over 40 centerpieces for less than $900.
The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. They stayed open a bit later to make sure we had everything we needed and gave use 10% off any items we purchased over 12.
-1 star for the fact that they close at 5:30pm. -

I never knew this place existed, it's amazing! It's Fantastico!! They have everything you can think of to throw a partay! I went looking for a Tiara that is not too expensive and fits my big head. I found one for $1.95! What a deal! I'm super happy I found this place, now I know where to buy my party favors.

For people like me who don't have a Martha Stewart bone in their body Fantastico is just aisles and aisles of crap made out of (mostly) unnatural materials. If you are creative and can visualize what could be put together with what to make an utterly fabulous party environment, you'll probably like Fantastico.
If you are like me and just want basic paper cocktail napkins, it's overpriced for that kind of stuff. Just go to a regular party store or even a Crate & Barrel or CB2 or some such. -

Fantastico!!!!
I can totally picture the Fanta girls - covered in paper mache with disco balls hanging from their orange outfits, parading around this store, squealing.
"FANTASTICO!!! ( girlish giggle) FANTASTICO (pulling at the tight orange shorts which are riding up their...)!"
Fantastico is pretty fun though. It reminds me of those kitchy, craft stores in New Jersey, which I adored visiting when I was younger. With a big cart in tow I'd shuffle through the aisles, throwing big balls of string, streamers, and tacky Christmas decorations into the cart . My mom would trail behind me, taking everything I just put in the cart - back on the shelves.
Fantastico is a welcoming haven for all those looking for balloons, streamers, disco balls, cheesy (though some are quite adorable) fountains, fake flowers, candles, glitter, ribbon, colored paper, halloween decorations, christmas decorations, candy, and well all of that stuff that you really don't need, but
" that would so work for that room...during....well...the holidays....about three months from now....yeah...."
have to get.
Also the salespeople are very friendly, and as of now (Holiday season could be a WHOLE different story) the store is easy to navigate and practically empty.
"And well..."(noticing out of the corner of my eye the Fantastico girls huddling together)
"I guess the Fanta-stico girls say it best..."
(Fantastico girls create a conga line and are now donning feathered headdresses with glitter taped onto each individual feather. They shimmy while conga-ing, and smiling, throughout the store - winking at entering customers and shrieking at the top of their lungs...."
"FANTASTICO is FANTASTICO (giggle, giggle)!!!!" -

My new favorite store!
I stopped in this morning on my way to work (they open at SEVEN) to pick up some finishing touches for my Halloween costume, and was floored by their selection. I came across their name through Google after spending days searching for affordable fake fruit on Amazon. (Some of the places said they would ship within three weeks -- NOT good enough.)
The place is huge. If you're planning a party or designing a costume, they have what you need. I almost guarantee it. -

Oh the granny hats I could make replete with feathered birds, and juniper boughs and fake flowers! A veritable crafts disorganized maze of a wonderland, there's nothing this place doesn't have including LOL CAT NAPKINS (which bode well at tech geek bday parties).
They've got a whole greenhouse of plants of every variety, except they don't need water or light and will never grey. Dedicated aisles for every occasion. Cowboy and pirates gear, Star Wars paraphernalia up the wazoooo, candles in every size and color, piñatas - it's a one stop party shop!
But note: the candy's weak, so fill up yer donkey elsewhere. And though it's mad fun discovering what this place holds, it adds up mighty quickly.Listed in: Event Planning 101, Home Decoration & Revamping

I feel like singing 'Your Body is a Wonderland' when I walk in here. (Don't hate on John Mayer, and don't think any less of me cause I just said that. I also shop at Abercrombie, what now?!) This store REALLY is a wonderland of sorts.
They have everything in here. Like, anything ridiculous. Want Disco Balls? They got 'em, in 5 different sizes! Ribbon? They have a whole aisle dedicated to the stringy stuff. Fake flowers galore. Train sets. Candles. Vases. Blingy Gold Bowls. Chinese takeout boxes (in a wonderful range of colors). EVERYTHING you guys. And a lot of it didn't seem that expensive.
So yes it's a great place. I noticed that when I came here today, they painted the building so there currently isn't any signage. Make sure you don't miss it. Like I said, it's a wonderland for the coolest crap ever. Screw the other party stores, this is your one stop shop. -

OH. MY. WORD.
I was fascinated and repelled by Fantastico's...sketchy-ish location and dingy interior, but as I was taught never to judge a book by its cover, I opened my heart to Fantastico's, and it did not disappoint.
Our mission was to find decorations for our Enchanted By The Sea themed Prom, and they had EVERYTHING I was hoping for: fishing nets, gold coins, lucite "jewels", coral, shells, even a plastic Captain's wheel. (We ended up with a spectacular display!) If you're the type who likes to theme a party out, and theme it out well, Fantastico is your new best friend. Vegas theme? Garden theme? Luau theme? Pirate theme? Mardi Gras? Yep, I'm pretty sure they have something for you. They aren't exactly the cheapest place in the world (you'd have to order online to get better prices), but definitely less expensive than some of the party store chains out there.
And, like a true princess, I got super distracted when I got to the unusually large tiara section (usually reserved for weddings)... -

We needed some New Year's Eve decorations and stuff. It turns out that the Mythbusters shop here. I love them, so now we shop here.
Rows and rows of statues, decorations, favors, paper, fake plants, and other assorted goodies for once-a-year use. The prices are much better than at Party City or other commercial establishments.Listed in: My Old Hood

This place is Party City on steroids! My go to place for party supplies for all occasions, all reasonably priced, and a huge assortment. I ordered 40 balloons for a retirement party at my work at the Hall of Justice which is right across the street from Fantastico. They were nice enough to hand deliver the balloons even though it was a windy day and went through the hassle of going through the metal detectors at work. Thank you Fantastico staff for helping to make our party more vibrant =)

This joint is great!
Wall to wall, floor to ceiling, jam packed with party "stuff" galore. I love to throw a good theme party every now and then, and this place is a must visit for anyone looking for party "stuff".
A few things that caught my eye as I whizzed through the aisles.
- Disco balls of various sizes
- Fake plastic 1.25ct diamonds by the bag full
- More silk and dried flowers than you'll ever need - ever.
- Gang loads of vases to put your dried and silk flowers in
- Pinatas... though I didn't immediately see Spongebob or Nemo... (joke)
- Ribbon... ribbons and more ribbon
- Swathy, drapy, sheer fabric for accent schmacksent
- Handsome fake rooster, almost life size. Maybe go back and get it so I can put it on my night stand. -sexxxy-
Hope you have as much fun in there as I did. -

This place was heaven sent for my party needs. It's like a Chinatown trinket store on steroids . . . but more useful. I was looking for disco balls to wear on my graduation mortar board cap (Don't ask). A family member suggested I go here.
I walked into the place doubting that I would find said disco balls. It had plenty of beach, Halloween, Christmas and wedding stuff. But then the shimmer of the various sized Disco balls caught my eye. And life was good. -

After learning the Mythbusters crew sometimes shows up here, I insisted we shop at Fantastico for a friend's Mexican fiesta-themed party with the glimmer of hope I'd have a run-in with Grant Imahara.
Sadly, no Grant, but more Mexican fiesta-themed options than you could ever imagine. Would you like some tiny novelty sombreros? What, those you found aren't tiny enough? Here, look in this box: *tinier* sombreros.
That was the beauty of Fantastico. The multiple options available for every single party theme were absolutely mind-boggling. Not only were we thrilled to find everything we needed in less than 5 minutes, but we also got distracted by other themed displays and somehow stayed a full hour. Like others have said, we found ourselves brainstorming for other parties to throw, just so we could come back and buy all the cool stuff we discovered.
The store itself, however, was cavernous, kind of dusty, and frankly almost creepy in its manufactured cheer - as in, this is the place in your nightmares where a deranged clown jumps out from behind a stack of boxes and chases you. Of course, if this is what comes to mind at a party store, perhaps you should party more to take the edge off. And this shouldn't stop you from the thrilling shopping experience that is Fantastico.
Great parking. Easy to find. Tons of stuff. Maybe try the Star Wars aisle for a Mythbusters sighting. -
Review from Steven R.
I would call it more "Fantastic-eh".
One thing to point out from the beginning which I felt wasn't expressed in some of the other reviews is that the influence in this place is more on the DIY/craft aspect of decorating. With tons of plants, fake fruit, candles, paper, pillars, etc, I can see some pretty awesome stuff being created from some of the goods here.
For the rest of us who rely more on pre-made stuff, depending on what kind of party you're having, I felt Fantastico's was just average. They've got a ton of stuff for New Year's, 4th of July, Chinese New Years, 50's, kids and wedding parties but other than that I didn't feel that had much for other situations or parties. They also have virtually nothing in the way of costumes which I think is a slight shortcoming based on some of their competitors although they do have at least a minor selection of hats.
The layout of the store is not very customer friendly either. With virtually no signs and nearly as few floor employees, efficiently navigating the store and finding what you're looking for could take a decent amount of time. You kinda just have to walk around and hope you find what you're looking for. The customer service at the cash register wasn't terribly good either (we'll call it "fair"). The prices can also be a little high as well (1 fake lime = $4).
Overall Fantastico's is pretty good if you really have something creative in mind to make but for the rest of us chumps looking for pre-made stuff this store is best utilized when you're in a jam. -
Review from Ryan W.
I need some faux fruit. Not French? No big deal...I need some fake fruit. Limes to be exact. In my search, I called Williams Sonoma and the nice guy who I spoke with said, "We don't sell what you need, but I can tell you where to get it." You can figure out where this is headed.
So, I am off to Fantastico. Probably for fake fruit. Possibly for a margarita or pinata party??
I get there to find a huge warehouse full of party supplies. As I wandered around, I noticed quite a few items of interest from Christmas trees to ornaments and wreaths and on and on.
Finally, I stumbled across the mecca of faux fruit...aisle 4. I have never seen to much stuff. I had no idea they made this many fruits in plastic format. As I looked up and down the aisle for the limes, I didn't see them. Surely it is just me. I looked again.
Oranges, Lemons, Peaches, Pears, Pineapples, Santa Rosa Plums, Chiles, Jalapenos, Corn, Figs, Green Beans, Tomatoes, Eggplant, Squash, Red Apples, Green Apples, Bananas, Carrots, Onions...This place has virtually every fruit or vegetable known to man, but I cannot find the limes to save my life. Time to ask for help.
I get a nice guy from the front of the store to come back and help me look through the boxes and extra stock to find these crazy limes. This place is not 100% displayed as many boxes are sealed and have writing on the sides. As we stood and peered up at the rafters of boxes, he began saying he didn't think they had limes. Then, he remembered all of the sudden that a woman came in and bought 150 limes recently. She wiped out the entire stock. I laughed and asked when they might get more in stock. He said he would check.
A few minutes later, he returned to say that they were not going to order any more limes because they didn't sell well. What? Didn't they just sell 150 of them in one transaction?? There were hundreds of Oranges, Lemons, Peaches, Pears, Pineapples, Santa Rosa Plums, Chiles, Jalapenos, Corn, Figs, Green Beans, Tomatoes, Eggplant, Squash, Red Apples, Green Apples, Bananas, Carrots, and Onions sitting around.
Oh well. I guess I won't go back. Instead, I am going to go to Bloomingdales where they have limes in a display (and were probably the ones that wiped out Fantastico) to convince them to sell me a handful. Fingers crossed. -

Fantastico is right!
If you're looking to throw a party or find some inexpensive decorative touches to make your home more warm and festive for the holidays...this huge SOMA craft store is the place that will help you do it up right. I grew up in Pasadena, where there's this amazing craft store called Stats, that I truly thought was so unlike any other place in the universe that I wouldn't have ever given Fantastico a glance had it not been for a coworker of mine getting a good idea in her head.
But then . . . we arrived, I knew exactly what kind of place I was walking into . . . and realized all of my crafty dreams _can_ come true here, too.

if you have an event coming up, take a trip to Fantastico first! They have a whole warehouse full of supplies....They have an extensive collection of baskets and silk flowers as well. I did see today that they were starting to put up Halloween supplies in case you want to shop for that now : /
I did not see any licenced party theme supplies, more of the generic themes like luau, mardi gras, and poker party supplies. A few items for first birthdays, and batchelorette parties. -

Bored on a Sunday afternoon and find yourself wandering down 6th street in SOMA? Yeah, not often for me either... but Fantastico is definitely a place to check out when you have a chance.
This place has almost everything you could want in a party store. Sure, the cement floor/warehouse feel doesn't exactly scream "Wooo wooo!" but the aisles upon aisles of pinatas, fake flowers, balloons, party hats, glitter, banners, chef-themed cartoon character cardboard cut-outs (you can't make this ish up), prove otherwise.
Party stores are few and far between in the city, but Fantastico is pretty, uh, fantastic...o. -

You will have a mental breakdown if you try to plan a party in San Francisco and you don't know about Fantastico. It's ok, I was you once! I went to every 'party supply' place in the yellow pages (pre-yelp; hey look, I have no nostalgia for the yellow pages!) and even scammed a ride to Target, and NOTHING.
I almost gave up and then the tooth fairy (read: I can't remember) tipped me off about this place. Who knew there were aisles and aisles of tacky and classy and colorful party supplies? They have everything you need, and plenty of things you do not understand. -

I love Fantastico's! You can find all DIY wedding items under one roof. Prices are also reasonable (much cheaper than Party Warehouse & Joann's!).

Fake Trees!!!
We have this sun-well that we put real trees in that died (because there is no sun) and decided we need some fake trees. We went to Fantastico to look over their selection and I thought the trees looked pretty good but that they were expensive. Then a miracle happened! I spoke with the manager and not only could they make custom trees for us, it's actually cheaper!
So we are getting two 7 foot trees (medium "bushyness") for only $100 each (believe it or not, that's cheap). -

Hard to focus, sooo mesmerized by shiny objects....gahhhhhh....
Seriously though, if you need some sparkle in your life or at your event, this IS the place to shop for it. The prices are fairly reasonable, but if you're crafty you can take ideas from here & go home & make that stuff on the cheaps. They've got everything (right now for Xmas & Turkey Day) for themed parties, weddings, birthdays, showers and graduations from decor to gift bags/boxes and plates/napkins.
When you live in Cleveland these types of stores are a dime a dozen, but in these parts it's practically a novelty.
The parking lot is super small FYI. -

I shouldn't have chosen such a unique theme for my BF's birthday party. The theme was underwater/trojan. And it was tough to do. No wooden horses, no swords or breast-plates. But they did have decorations for practically every other theme possible.
Well, not exactly because my runner-up theme was communism. And the 2nd runner up was Ghengis Khan. Didn't see anything close to that at all.
But they had so much that I did not utilize. I should have decorated the patio umbrella like a jelly fish, with the ribbons and streamers.
I got some paper fish, seahorses, a plastic gangster necklace, plastic fish, paper lobster, and pipecleaners.
Oh, right. This place has the most amazing fake fruit!!! I got grapes to make a wreath for the BF. They look so real!! -

There is a hodgepodge of stuff at this place. If you need anything for a wedding or party, you can come to this place. We bought silk flowers, ribbons, colorful tulle, and bouquet materials. I thought the prices were a bit high for some items, such as the green tape for the bouquet and the ribbons. You pay a premium for convenience.
Bring a jacket since the warehouse is cold.
