Like another reviewer, I also followed my hairstylist Sheila here from her old salon. What an improvement. Fandango has been in the community for 10 years and it's the real deal. No gimmicks or Hollywood egos, just experts who do great work and give excellent customer service.

Fandango is a cozy little salon with retro charm and a very warm, friendly staff. It's right off of Sunset in Silverlake on a street with ample parking, a huge plus. Sheila's been cutting my hair for 3 years and she always pampers me. She's sweet as pie, but will give it to you straight when it comes to what your hair wants to be doing. No BS, which is much appreciated in this crazy town.

Some salons are really intimidating. Getting a haircut can make you feel like you're going to the dentist. I felt immediately comfortable here. The owner, Barbara, made me feel at home and I enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing afternoon drinking tea and chatting with everyone. I look forward to going back in 6 weeks for a trim, which is always like a refreshing brain reboot.

Carmen has been cutting/coloring my hair for 3-4 years.   I always get a great cut, lots of compliments, and it continues to look good as it grows out.   Fandango is a hip, comfy salon where everyone is 'down home' friendly.  Carmen is terrific and great about giving the cut you ask for!

Man. I got a bad coloring and a bad haircut here. I walked out 117.00 lighter and hating my hair.

I asked for the ombre hair color and this guy thought that meant to just paint bleach on my hair under my top layer. I don't know if he even toned it because it's all different, one color on the sides, a different in the back? I ended up just dying over it.

Also he said my cut had no layers and he wanted to put layers in it, however, he took a razor to it, and made my normally so thick hair look not only super thin, but just TRASHY.

Here's to a hat for the next couple months :(

Love this salon. Fun decor. Really friendly and approachable vibe. I followed Sheila here from another salon. I've been getting great cuts from her for about two years now. Love this lady and her wicked awesome hair magic. Last week I went in wanting a new color, but was totally scattered and unsure as to which ONE. After looking at some magazines, I decided to go from blonde to red. She spent a lot of time on this transformation and did a gorgeous job! Beautiful highlights and low-lights galore. I walked away in total admiration of her work. Despite how lovely it was, the following morning the red just felt wrong on me. I missed my blonde hair...a lot. Damn my moods! Sheila had my back though. SHE called me that day as a courtesy follow up. How awesome is that?! Do you know what she did? She had me come back to the salon to turn me back to a blonde at no charge!! If that's not customer service, I don't know what is. Pretty sure going red to blonde is THE number one pain in the ass transition you can put your hair through. But as usual, Sheila had a great attitude and gave me no guff whatsoever. I always enjoy my time in her chair. Now my fabulous blonde hair is back and I have Sheila to thank for helping me make up my friggin' mind! Totally trust this woman and highly recommend her. And the owner Barbara is a real doll also.

I live in SF and was visiting a friend in LA right around thanks giving. I have a fantastic hair dresser in SF who I LOVE. While in LA I really wanted to cut my hair short called up Fandango on  Monday afternoon and was able to get an appt w Sheila. OH MY GOD, the BEST haircut i've had in a LOOOONNNGGGG time. Her technique, patience, experience, energy, and wonderful personality have convinced me to travel to LA from now on to cut my hair. I have been getting countless compliments and have been gladly giving out her contact info to friends up in San Francisco. Thank you Sheila :)

I can only give a review for Barbara, the owner.  Amazing! She is great listener, talented, creative, and patient....everything you would want in a stylist.  She takes her time in studying your hair.  She looks at the texture, the way it lays, and will let you know what kind of styles work best for you. I've seen her do amazing things w/ Asian hair, big fro's and super curly's.  She does both cut and color.

Barb has a super loyal client base and it is ever- growing.  Plan ahead if you want an appointment with her, especially around the holiday season.

There have been times where I have gone to other salons and I always come back to Barbara and have her repair the damage.  She's really the best.

I have seen some really cool styles from the other stylists, but have never had any desire to see anyone but Barb.

The salon is really cute and clean.  Located in the heart of Silver Lake, parking can be difficult at times.  Watch for street cleaning signs!  They use Aveda products.

This place is cute, the people are nice, I really wanted to like it. My hair did not like it.

I learned that the stylists here rent their chairs so there is no overarching salon but a group of stylists. So to be fair I only tried one stylist she was super nice but did a horrible job on my hair.

I have very curly hair. I have been to salons that did a good job this salon left me looking like a poodle. She "scrunched" my hair I looked like an 80's soccer mom. I wanted a cut that could be both straight and curly ,when I did my straighting my hair was completely uneven.

My Color was better then my cut but only about 3 stars my stylist who was really nice seemed to give up on my hair before even starting. She seemed to think my hair was hopeless. I am in my 30's, I felt like maybe she only likes young hipster cuts. She just really seemed disinterested in making my cut right. She seemed annoyed that I had curly hair.

She kept asking me what I wanted rather giving any thoughts of what she thought would work. I hate this, she is a hairstylist I am not. She might be good for someone who knows what they want completely and is young and hip.

I will continue looking for a good salon in L.A.

    no reviews for Carmen?!

Carmen is my regular hairstylist and I love her a bunch. I have curly hair and it's hard to find someone who knows what to do with it. Carmen always listens to me and does a great job. She never assumes I want my hair blown out straight, but she's happy to do it if I'm in the mood. And if not, she takes the time to twist out my curls so they don't dry all fuzzy.

I also went to her for an updo right before a special event and even though she warned me that updos weren't her specialty (i decided to take my chances), she did an amazing job and charged me much less than any other salon in the area would have for the same service.

Her prices for a haircut are totally reasonable. She also does a great job with color and is very personable. Big yays for Carmen!

My hair really needed a new style, and I have just moved to Silver Lake and I wasn't really sure where to go. I found so many good reviews for Jamie that I decided to go see what she could do for me.

She was GREAT. She really listened to what I wanted, and made sure before we started that I really did want to cut off 5 inches. She took her time and gave my hair careful attention. Now I look great with my new style!

Finding a new stylist is exhausting.  I have one that I love but since moving, I can't make the trek out to see her anymore.

Based on all the yelp reviews, I came in & was set up with Jamie.  My hair was in pretty bad shape...I was trying to grow it out and I wound up looking like a soccer mom :(

An hour later and my hair is looking AWESOME again!!!!  Jamie really listened to what I wanted and stayed clear away from "wings" ;)

I am sooo happy with my haircut but even happier that I have found a new stylist!

I have been going to Fandango for three years now; it's like my home away from home. I was referred to their stylist, Anita Santilli, by a good friend of mine and I couldn't be happier! Anita and the entire staff at Fandango are very friendly and very receptive to what you want and need. They always offer you tea and make you feel right at home. Anita is an amazing stylist if you're looking for a retro look, a modern sophisticated look or something a little crazy / a little punk rock like me --- purple highlights :) In turn, I too referred a friend of mine to Anita; he has now been going to her for hair cuts for about a year and absolutely loves Anita's work.

Fandango is an Aveda Concept Salon, so only Aveda products are available in the salon - which is great because all of their products are environment friendly. Over the three years I've going there I have switched over to using Aveda's whole line of hair and skin care products, and the whole line is completely remarkable! Anita has been doing bleach retouches on me the entire time I've been a client of hers and with the aide of Aveda's deep conditioners, leave-in products and conditioning treatments from Anita my hair has never been healthier. I could not be happier with the service I get from Fandango and the special care Anita gives to everyone of her clients. I highly recommend Fandango, you won't be disappointed!

I had a great haircut from Keith recently. He seemed to understand my hair type (fine and long) and made suggestions for cutting (or not cutting) layers in the back. He was very friendly and professional and gave me a fantastic head massage! I told him I didn't really care what the haircut looked like, because the massage was worth the cost alone. Of course, he did a great job, and I will definitely go back. So, 5 stars for Keith!

I have to take off one star though; I also got my eyebrows done here and my skin blistered afterward. It's been about a week and they are still sensitive and blistered. That seems to happen to me sometimes and it might be the type of wax and not the esthetician's fault. She didn't do the greatest job of trimming though. Either way, I will go to Wax Poetic in Burbank for my brow wax next time. I'll stick to haircuts at Fandango.

I will be going here forever as long as it stays in Silver Lake :) It's an Aveda salon which means you KNOW it's worth it all. The setting is small but pretty. Great music is always on - never blaring. They offer refreshing water while you wait.

I adore Ava and plan to be loyal to her cutting/styling power! The stylists seem to be completely accomodating and offer options for your cut. I hope they stay in Silver Lake forever. Viva Fandango!

I have been coming here for a really long time. I have had my hair cut, colored and even permed there. I have been happy with all of my cuts that I get from Barb, the owner. She listens to what you are looking for and also gives honest, good advice. In other words, she tells me whether or not the picture I've brought in is realistic or not.

I also just recently got a facial from Mary Jane here. I came out with glowing skin (in a good way) and felt like jelly from the awesome massage.

Overall, great services with a really friendly vibe.

Three months ago this would have been a five-star review.  I'd been going to Fandago regularly for about a year, and I was thrilled (and stunned) to walk out every time with a cut that didn't make me want to put a paper bag over my head.  Stylists listened to what I knew about my hair and used the information to sculpt a lovely style out of my thin and fine mop.  I was very happy to finally found a salon "home."

Just before Christmas, however, I realized I was long past-due for a cut and I didn't want to go home for the holidays all scraggly.  (It was healthy, it just needed a trim.)  Unfortunately, neither of my regular stylists were available, so I decided to go with one of their newer staff members, Spring.

I explained to Spring, pretty pleasantly but pretty precisely, that my fine and thin hair doesn't layer very well and shouldn't be more than one inch in difference between the top layer and the bottom layer.  I also let her know that I was growing my hair out for my wedding in June.

So you can imagine my horror, after putting my glasses back on, to see that she'd chopped several inches off, and layered half-way up.  I'm four months away from the wedding and it still looks heinous.  It's only just hitting my shoulders now.  I SO regret having her cut my hair; avoid her at all costs (particularly if you have specific hair needs and would like a stylist to *listen* to you.)

I gave the review four stars on the strength of the lovely haircuts I received over the past year.  But that one cut was enough to rate negative stars.

I have had two great cuts with Keith and am very happy with this salon.  As other have mentioned, it is an Aveda salon, so the products are great.
The receptionist is super cool and the music is nice to listen to.  If you go early on Saturday, make some time for parking as there is a farmers market in the area.  They do have a small lot, but it may be full.  A bonus is visiting the market after you are done and getting some great produce or a delicious tamale!

I have been seeing Carmen for a couple years.  This is a great salon.  I love Aveda and I like how their philosophy (natural, non-toxic and theraputic) gets incorporated into this salon.  I have very thick and stiff hair.  It's really hard to cut right so I really respect the amazing job Carmen always does.  People literally stop me on the street to ask where I get my hair cut.  The best part is that my hair always looks great even after my cut has grown out, which is the mark of a great stylist!

Also!  Carmen does eyebrow threading, which is way easier on my skin than waxing.  When I wax my brows, I usually break out but not with threading.  I usually book an appointment for a cut and brows at the same time.

I've gone to Fandango several times over the past two years and I've always seen Keith (who's great) except for this last time.  My point of this review isn't to bash a particular stylist, but to point out that who you see at Fandango is VERY relevant to the quality of your experience.
I was booked for partial highlights and a cut (a 2 hour appt) but was in and out in less than 55 minutes.  The entire time the stylist (again, NOT Keith) was working on me, he was also informally working on someone who appeared to be his pal.  He set me up with some foils for 20 minutes, rinsed those out, had me brush out my own hair while he worked on his pal, and basically just cut two inches off the ends in a straight line.  All of this for $175.00 (plus this tip that I felt compelled to leave for some reason).  My haircut looks really weird. In his defense, he said I could some back if I needed it touched up, but I felt like such a burden on this guy that I wouldn't want too.
So: Fandango is cool and they are an Aveda salon, but the experience really depends on who you get to see.

The best thing about this salon is their attitude.  Just like the other reviewers say - the energy in here is great.  No upturned noses, no gossipy stares, no "so who did your hair last and WHEN did you get it cut... ?!"  In general, this place feels like your best friends' house when the neighbors are all over for an afternoon chat in the kitchen.  Love it.

I went here a few times. The first time, it was cool.. nothing spectacular, but not too shabby. Then I went back and the same person wasn't working there. The guy I got was horrible.. I hated what he did, I don't think he listened at all. I love that it is Aveda, but otherwise, I would never go back unless it was an emergency and I couldn't drive to AT Tramp.

Mary Jay is my girl for waxing.  I just walked out with the most beautifully waxed, newly tinted brownish-auburn eyebrows I have ever seen on anyone.  Her little waxing parlor is comfortable, smells great, and she herself is sweet, smart and a great gal to spend an hour or more with.  She also waxed my underarms for the first time in my life, and I now have no fear for future waxing expeditions, no matter where on my body they may be.  I'm feeling adventurous, cuz I know I'd be in great hands.  It was as painless and comfortable as I hoped it could be!  I've never had my hair cut there, but the cuts that come out of the place look great.  The receptionist always picks up the phone on the first or second ring and is super-helpful.  And it's walking distance from my house, lucky me!

Oh man... I sooo wanted to like this place/stylist. Jamie was recommended by a friend. The reviews were great, so I took her word for it. WRONG!

I profess that the bad haircut was partially my fault because I said "I'm game, I trust you"... but I ended up with a color much too dark for my skin color, even though I cautioned against it. She tried to remedy it by adding in some lighter highlights. Ok, worked a bit but not great.

Then came the haircut. She started cutting my hair without even first fixing my part... seriously, I had to ask her. When asked, I stated that I usually blow dry my wavy hair and then iron it straight. So instead of taking my style into consideration, she blowdryed it into a wings with a brush and then chopped my hair up with layers to bring out the wave... WHICH I TRY TO STRAIGHTEN OUT!  Cutting my bangs were no better. I asked for Zoe deChanel style crown bangs, and got something totally different. I had to instruct her afterwards on how to cut each lock so that I could try to redeem the cut. No luck there.

Two weeks later, I still think my color is too dark, and my cut is still terrible (a cross between a soccer mom and an 80s rockband - I never thought that would be possible...)  My hair feels dry and yucky. No way I would go back to her. The only redeeming thing was that she was so nice, and comped the cut and color. But still, I would rather have paid, whatever the cost, and walked out with a great style. Sigh.

Steven (McNicholl) is my man.  He does a great job and gives me a great rate for the quality of work he does. He cuts and colors my hair and I love love love it everytime.  I'm a blonde and he does an amazing job with my color.  I have very thin, unmanageable hair, but you would never know it when Steven is done with it.  Plus he's just a great person.  Fun to chat with, but not too chatty.  Doesn't work on more than one person at a time- in fact, I never see any of the stylists at Fandango bouncing around between clients.  I'm in and out in an hour every time. The salon is quiet- hip but not trendy or annoying.  Everyone on the staff is pleasant and friendly.  I've been going there regularly for a year and a half now and have never had a problem booking an appointment or anything.  Parking is free and easy- they have a small lot in the back or there is street parking.

Cute salon in the Silverlake/Los Feliz neighborhood- its Aveda as well. The staff is fairly friendly and seems to be experienced with cutting curly hair, which is always a plus! I have had Steven there, who is awesome. $55 for a cut and more for extra stuff. Thought the prices were pretty reasonable for LA. The parking sucks, so your best bet is to park across the street rather than try to cram into the tiny parking area in the back.

I have gone to this salon on and off and was always really happy with Barbara. She is a great listener and good at hair. My only one bad experience was when I tried to change my hair color. I wanted to go from dark red to blonde. Barbara referred me to some other guy who was really impatient with me on the phone and had a condescending attitude. He wanted me to come in for a consultation first but the times he suggested did not work for me since I have a job with a tight schedule. I gave him other suggested times but none of mine times worked for him. I asked if I could do the consult and then the color the same day. Nope, not only did that not work for them but they had the gall to call me and say they would not do my color at all since I was unwilling to come in for a consultation!  I was shocked to say the least since that was not even true. If anything, that guy should have been reprimanded for how nasty he was. I only wish I could remember his name so I could say --"don't go to him!"

I have been going to this salon for years. My hair dresser is Anita - the beautiful woman with the colorful tats. Anita is so talented - she has done wonders with everyone I've sent to her. She is respectful of what your limits are and frankly after all this time, she can practically read my mind  and knows exactly what I want! She doesn't press you to purchase services that you don't want. She is just lovely, has a gorgeous smile and makes you feel good when you are in her chair.

    HIGHLY recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    seriously.

Stylist Steven McNicholl is AMAZING.  I have been to all the best over the years...Fredric Fekkai, Michael Canale, etc.. and Steven does the same quality  color & cut. job as the best in the business...if not better for way less $.  I have been going to him for years and get complimented on my hair very often.  He does the great highlights, color & cut.  Many of my friends and family now go to him as well.  The salon is low key and comfortable....no snooty Beverly Hills vibe here.

I've gone to get my hair cut at Fandango four times now. I have to admit the first time I was there I wasn't blown away, but I think it was because I was too limited in my choice. I had long hair and wanted to keep it long, so really, there wasn't much they could do. All other times I was adventurous and went shorter, and was really happy with the cut. I have gone to Ava and Jaime. Both are really cool--Ava is a sweetheart, (though I think I prefer Jaime when it comes to the actual cut).

I got my hair cut in Beverly Hills for years, but when my stylist moved, I went searching for someplace closer to home.  I was thrilled to find Fandango.  Not only is it close, but it's fun, laid-back and I've been very happy with my hair (and trust me, I'm very vain when it comes to my hair).

    What I love:
    1) They have a full range of services - hair, makeup, waxing.
    2) They're reasonably priced (my haircut costs around $42).
    3) Since it's an Aveda salon, the products are high-quality.
    4) Everyone is very laid-back and friendly.  They even have signs posted saying that if you decide you want to switch stylists at Fandango, that's okay - they won't be offended.  Last salon I went to, if you switched stylists, you got nasty glares.
    5) There's no chic, glamour-vibe here.  It may be a little bit hipster, but this is definitely a place where you can come in "undone."  You do not have to do your hair to get your hair done, know what I mean?

I wish they had better parking, but otherwise I'm totally thrilled with this salon.

I discovered Fandango a few years back when I moved to Silver Lake and even though I've moved to Glendale I continue to go here. Ava has been my hairstylist and I wouldn't have it any other way. She always listens to my requests and will let me know when what I want may not be the best for my hair type. I love the products and I am never pushed to buy them which is a plus. I love me some Fandango :)

Third haircut from Jamie was the charm.  She's a five star girl, now.  My fave of all those I've yelped.

I was looking for a good place  get my hair colored after I moved to Los Angeles, and Fandango is definitely it!!! I go to Keith for highlights and lowlights, and he does a fantastic job every time. Plus he's super nice and professional. The salon itself has a lovely atmosphere, sort of retro, and the staff is all very friendly. It's an Aveda salon, so the products they use on you are good for your hair, and it smells really good! The best part is, it's totally affordable, and I don't have to go broke every time I color my hair! Yay Fandango!
