Atlanta, GA
My favorite poker "hang out".
Growing up in the Toco Hill(s) area, I feel at "home" at Famous. I have really become more attached over the past 5 years because of Wednesday night's Poker. About 5 years ago, my husband and I were looking for a new poker venue in the area and have been to Famous just about EVERY Wednesday since.
One thing that I LOVE about Famous is that it is two bars in one-- A sports/dining "Cheers" type bar in the front with a cute French Quarter type front porch and a dance/DJ bar in the back. The neighborhood crowd is diverse--with a large Emory crowd -- College Kids, University Professionals, Hospital Personnel, etc... (And, on poker nights--it is a melting pot of everyone!) If you like large screen TV's, plenty of pool tables, tables with booths, darts, video games, etc.. Famous has it!
The food is usually above par--except when they limit the menu to "Football Menu". Then, the food is just your boring typical bar fare.
Items to definitely try-- if available-- Crab Cakes! Or- Coconut Shrimp (but don't get the nasty mango sauce)--They used to have a real creamy sweet coconut sauce which was to DIE for--and for some reason they went with a tangy mango--yuck! So, I just order tarter sauce instead. Their burgers are very good. The spinach artichoke dip is very good too. Most items on the menu are pretty good.
The service is usually very friendly--which is what really makes or breaks a bar!
Unfortunately, the bar has gone through MANY staffing changes-- These people were what gave the place a feeling of being "Cheers". Hopefully, they will get some stability soon.
We go to all of the Atlanta Poker Club venues to play poker (Loco's, Tin Roof, Wooden Nickel, Bench Warmers, etc.) And, Famous is our absolute favorite--although it seems they are working on getting some poker night service issues worked out.
All of the other nights--Famous service is awesome! They have great attitudes--make you feel at home! But, we usually only go to play poker.
As for weekend nights, it is sort of hit or miss at this time-- sometimes there will be a crowd-- other times it is dead. It would be wonderful if they took some tips from Tin Roof to get some classic rock bands or DJ music rather than trying to make it a hip hop venue. It would be wonderful if Famous had the crowds that we see at Johnny's Hideaway on weekends or Tin Roof on Sunday nights because Famous has the space for huge crowds. Those places are WAY too crowded.
The music is usually pretty good in the front bar. And, this last poker game--they had a new stereo system up and running--with a great music selection playing in the back bar. (Although, music can be such a personal choice. --Some like it loud--others like it soft. I thought it was perfect.)
I see some really nice improvements that have been made lately-- Classier front doors, new paint theme, stage changes, pool tables, etc.
I had Famous as 4 stars -- (And, although some friends are still having difficulty with the poker/food service, my personal experience was perfect this past Wednesday!) So, I now give it 5 stars. -

Famous has been in business in the Toco Hills Shopping Center for a long time; I think at least 25 years now. I know this because I grew up in the Toco Hills / Emory area.
Famous Pub has never ranked up in my top ten or top twenty favorite haunts; however, because of the convenience and proximity, I have been here many, many times. I have always liked the fact that parking is never a problem at Famous. Unlike other area Sports bars, there is always plenty of parking and it is always free ( no parking attendants or valet parkers).
I have seen lots of changes; some good and some decidedly not so. I am basing this review on two recent visits. This past Saturday night Famous was crowded with people watching the Patriots-Broncos game. There were lots of wait staff in place bringing food and drink to tables. The place was hopping and, although I did not eat, everyone I was with seem to dig the food / bar atmosphere. The band playing in the back room / back bar area was not great (but there was no cover to go back there to hear them play either).
From my perspective, beer prices have always been on the pricey side and the food has always been fair to middling. A recent menu change seems to have elevated the food choices and perhaps also the quality levels. A recent no smoking policy has also drastically improved the bar atmosphere. But certain longstanding problems still persist at Famous.
I also went here on a Monday night and there was hardly anyone in the place. I sat at the bar and had a couple of drinks and ate a hamburger with spicy curly fries. The bartender was certainly attentive but also a little too smarmy and perhaps too overly concerned with selling or executing the up-sale.
The burger and fries were good (perhaps better than I have had here in the past) but also a little pricy given the portioning and quality; I have definitely had better pub burgers elsewhere.
The only thing I was excited about is that I learned Famous sells large mugs of "house" beer (Miller High Life) for 4 bucks; these are just like the ones one might procure in any Mexican restaurant..
My bill for the burger with fries, the two drinks (Miller High Life Mug and a glass of Crispin Cider), tax, and tip came to almost 23 bucks.
I'd rather eat, drink and watch games at nearby Outback Steakhouse for considerably less scratch. Now that La Parilla is nearby, maybe there too.
Perhaps Famous really deserves 2.5 stars but on this visit I will dispense with three.Comment from Anthony T. of Famous Pub/Club Famous 1/20/2012

They have tried to make this place better... new entrance, no smoking, reducing the available menu to poker players, forgetting to set the cash registers to charge the right price for the daily specials... wait... those last two aren't improvements.
Seriously. The last three times I have been here on a Wednesday they have attempted to over charge me. I have had to inform them of the special and, I know it's not the bartenders fault, they tell me that the manager and/or owner is supposed to change it, and they will make sure that it gets fixed. Three times
The food has gone down hill so much over the last 6 months. They had a black and blue salad that was pretty good. It's not on the menu anymore... the rest of the food is sub par bar food.
They do have several pool tables... and cold beer... if you like that...Listed in: places I play poker

Downtown, Atlanta, GA
alright, ive been there twice since my first review, the second time was just a little better than the first, the third time however was quite a bit better, i do have to express that Kim is by far the best waitress for the poker players, "i do play poker there on Wednesday nights" it took two trips on Wednesday to understand that they actually only had a few of the huge mugs for the house brew, "if you read my first review you will understand" when i ordered the house brew she told me she would be happy to refill the mug if i wanted to order another just bring it up and ask, very good problem solving skills, i know it sounds basic but its better than hearing "sorry we have to reuse your mug because we are out of them" as well my food was brought to me and im very happy with that. I tip well, usually over 20% and i expect good service, and you know what? I got it.
i know people read these reviews as well as the owners, i would like to say thank you to the owner for the change in service, as well i have a recommendation, use the chip system for poker, i have missed several hands at poker trying to get my receipt, my tab is always well over the $20 minimum for poker, usually before the gave even starts, trying to get receipts for 50+ poker players really slows down the bar right before poker starts, other than that Congrats on the better service, i will be back and i can see that you are trying and succeeding. More waitresses like Kim and you will not only have happy customers but come back to being one of the biggest venues in the APC.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Place is a joke. Food blows, the owner posts inaccurate, opinionated comments on ex-employees that were some of the customers favorite bartenders. If I am going to spend my hard-earned money somewhere, I definitely would NOT support this establishment.

I started going to Famous last year back in febuary to play poker on Wed nites . In the begining it was ok but after a few months and constant changes in staff it has became a horrible place to go and I won't go there again. the last two times I went it took over an hour to get my food and when I did it was cold plus the staff was rude about it when I complained. The manager was no better and of no help. the first occasion when I sent my food back it wasn't remade but reheated in the microwave and they acted like it was an act of god to even do that. It reminds me of a restaurant called Dick's Last Resort where you paid for rude service if I wanted crappy food and rude service I could go to the checkers on memorial drive but oh wait the food is at least better at checkers. As much as I love to play poker there on Wed I will not go back. This place has really declined over the past year and the management and staff need some real attitude adjustments and they need to go back to there old menu as the new one sucks as bad as the attitudes there. I will be surprized if they are still in business at the end of the year as this place is being ran into the ground and fast. Tip to the owner you need to make some drastic changes. And again thanks for your rudeness , crappy food , and crappy service.

I'm just going to make a numbered list.
1. My boyfriend ordered a Yuengling draft, and received something much too hoppy... was likely the Sweetwater IPA. Noted this to staff, who took the beer back and delivered a new one.... much too dark for a Yuengling!!! He was then charged with the more expensive beer on the bill.
2. Beware, when you order cajun fries, they are actually curly fries. Talked to a waiter about this, and responded that "the seasoning is already baked into the fries when they're frozen and then we fry them"... so these are essentially the frozen fries I could get from from Kroger? No matter, if they're going to serve curly fries on the menu, they should be curly fries on the menu. This is misleading. Arby's does not call their fries cajun fries...
3. Despite our two mixups, no one came back to check up on the beer, or the fries, to make sure everything was ok or that we were satisfied. Just restated how they are the same.
4. The waiter came back to tell us that they didn't have the veggie burger, so we ordered one of the wraps instead... and the bill showed that we were charged the price of the veggie burger (more expensive).
5. Waiter mistakenly told me the wrong price for my well drink, so I was overcharged on the bill.
6. The place was dead slow, but it still took 20+ minutes for the check to be delivered after we asked for it...twice.
7. Don't go here if you don't like being frustrated, being overcharged, and having no one care about your customer experience (unless you're a masochist). I was there for an hour, and it was like I was paying 50 cents a minute to be on an episode of Punk'd, but Ashton Kutcher never came out...and I ended up having to pay for it.
So to reiterate about the experience... overcharged our beer, underflavored our fries, underapologized.
I live less than a mile down the street, and I will never, ever come back. Helloooo, Maggie's Pub!Comment from Anthony T. of Famous Pub/Club Famous 12/13/2011

Lack of service and food quality.
We sat down and were greeted but never given any silverware.
The appetizer was good but we werent checked on until our food came out. The food runner tried to take our food to two other tables before it made it to us. My partner ordered a medium burger and it was more than done. They also forgot the honey mustard we asked for with the meal.
I ordered a burger and steak fries. While the burger was OK at best but the fries were FAR from being anything like a steak fry.
The quality of the food was questionable. The burgers were advertised as char broiled however the burgers we received were cook on a flat top and looked like a pre-made burger you would buy at Walmart. The quality of the meat was very LOW.
When the waitress finally did come back she seemed very surprised that my partner's food wasn't good.
This is definitely a place we will not be back to. Sad since the drink prices are reasonable and the over abundance of televisions.Comment from Anthony T. of Famous Pub/Club Famous 12/12/2011

We recently moved to the area, and everytime we head to Publix, we think about checking out Famous Pub. We went there tonight, and it was exactly as we expected - a really good sports bar. Roxanne was an amazing server - very friendly and outgoing, excited that we were trying the place for the first time, and very good about getting things done. Our food was quintessential pub food - no fancy frills, just amazing wings, a great burger (bacon, provolone and grilled onions) and a Santa Fe chicken wrap for my wife. We are definitely planning to check out some football there soon, especially with the drink specials they have(!), and the Mrs. is wicked excited about the prospect of playing bingo in a bar.
We didn't order any beer, but plan to in the future. The 100 oz. specials looked interesting, and there seems to be a pretty good variety of beer there. Not crazy big like Taco Mac or Old Chicago, but enough to keep things interesting. The prices were definitely right, and if you have Sparkfly benefits through your work, they participate in that promotion.Comment from Anthony T. of Famous Pub/Club Famous 12/12/2011

Famous is an okay sports bar in the Toco Hills shopping center. I came here to watch some of the NCAA tournament basketball games. In terms of watching sports, it's a great place to catch games as there are multiple HD projection screens and several smaller flat panel TVs everywhere. Famous is a bit dated and therefore has more of a "divey" sports bar feel to it as opposed to say a Taco Mac or Hudson Grille. They also have some pool tables and arcade games which the others don't. The interior is spacious and there's plenty of seating, making it a decent option if you want to watch sports with a large group.
I've visited for both lunch and dinner and found the food to be average at best. Typical sports bar fare: salads, sandwiches, burgers, wings, pizza, nachos... you get the drift. I've tried the cheese sticks, "Santa Fe" egg rolls, chicken tenders, and BBQ pork sliders. Nothing was terrible and nothing was remarkable. It's just basic grub and had the same level of tastiness as dishes reheated from the frozen food section at Sam's Club. Despite the lackluster eats, service has always been great. I'd give Famous 2 stars for the food and 3.5 stars for the sports viewing, which averages to about 3 stars.Listed in: Atlanta Bars, Pubs, & Taverns, Sports Bars in Atlanta

Fuckin Famous. Man, I hate this place enough as it is. Even if I'm wasted. Okay, and maybe I am now (MAYBE), but whatever, this shit needs to be said.
So I came here pre-any drinking at all tonight to watch some god damn baseball and have some food. Of course, I don't fuck around with lame ass sandwiches so I ate a basket of fries and ordered a glass of water; and the waitress says, sorry, we don't serve glasses of water during football season. (BTW I'm there to watch a real sport---baseball. I don't fuck around with football.) Um, excuse me? Seriously, ridiculous. And I don't want to pull the 'Im finna be a lawyer' card, but I'm pretty sure that's fuckin illegal or some shit. So I sidle up to the bar and the bartender was a hell of a lot nicer and I'm like, yo dude can I get a glass of water? Sure, no problem. So I get fuckin hydrated.
So anyway then the waitress gets all huffy like, I was going to bring y'all some waters anyway and I'm like whatever.
My cajun fries were decent but I'll stick to any of the other 224.038,034 sports bars in town that don't have ridic NO WATER rules. Sorry, that's just fuckin nuts.

The food is not terrible but the service is nothing short of awful. I was there two days in a row the first was to grab some grub with the hubby. Our food took FOREVER...and what I mean by that is that at least four other tables that came in after us had eaten their food and gotten their check before ours made an appearance . Our waiter informed us there was a mix-up in the kitchen and he was really sorry. Well ok. I've worked as a waitress before and decided to cut the guy some slack...it wasn't his fault the kitchen goofed....however, after that he avoided us like the plague. Once our food FINALLY came I asked for another beer. Well we were already finished eating by the time it came and I didn't even want it by then. I should have sent it back but I just drank about a quarter of it then left.
The next day I went back to watch football with a friend and the waitress was just about as bad. I had to go find her anytime we wanted to order because she would be gone for 20 minutes at a time or hanging at the bar chit chatting. I also saw the waiter from the night before apologizing profusely to another customer who was obviously ticked off at him.
To top it all off, when I got home, I found that our waitress not only charged me for my food and drinks, she also put a separate charge for my friend's food on my card...and charged her as well! That was the last straw. Sorry Famous Pub, I gave you a chance to redeem yourself and you failed repeatedly. I guess they just don't really care much about a bunch of sports fans to think they enjoy good customer service as well.Comment from Anthony T. of Famous Pub/Club Famous 12/12/2011

It was a Thursday night and the bar was surprisingly packed. I guess "thirsty Thursdays" still goes on after college. I was told this is the "Emory hangout" but there seemed to be a lot of folks well beyond the typical undergrad/grad school age stationed at the bar that night.
I hate the fact that GA has not yet enforced the smoking ban for local businesses, so of course I walked out of there reeking of cigarette smoke in both my clothes and hair. Our waitress was great and she must've checked in with us at least 5 times. Apparently, on Thursdays it's karaoke night but boy, were our heads pounding the morning after from the horrific attempts of the fellow bar goers trying to sing random oldies and a song by Lady Gaga. Oy vey!
I noticed this sports bar has everything from the neon lighted liquor ad signs, dark cherry wood furniture and pool tables brightly light by the ever so harsh florescent light fixtures. All in all, it's a sports bar in a strip mall. It's the place you go to if you don't have any other options.
I think I would have a better time at Hudson Grille or Stats next time.
Still trying to figure out why it's called "famous?" Not sure what makes this bar so elite? hmmm ;)

I've been to famous pub a couple dozen times, but just now getting around to reviewing it. Famous hosts one of the larger poker games in town each Wednesday night, so its a good time to give it a shot. The two servers working the poker game do an excellent job, I've never had a problem with either of them. I can't speak for the rest of the staff though. The food is simply 'ok'. Really more hit or miss. The burgers aren't bad, but I have been less than impressed with most of the other things I've ordered.
Plus I will have to note that Famous does NOT have erotic photo hunt on either of their bartop machines, since Adam R mentioned them having it in his review.... it must have been removed since then... how lame is that for a 21+ establishment?! That alone loses a star for Famous.
Famous Pub definitely fits in with the Toco Hills theme of "culinary black hole", I would not come here if it were not for the poker game, there's simply too many better places around town.Comment from Anthony T. of Famous Pub/Club Famous 12/15/2011

One of my favorite things about Famous is that the vibe is anything *but* - that is, it's totally chillaxin' . . . a place to go when you want to be under the radar. Have a beer (or ten if it's that kinda day or night), maybe play some pool or video games, maybe just chat with the super-friendly staff. Yeah, it's one of those places.
Bar food, typical but tasty (I like the chicken fingers best, being a creature of habit prone to ordering such whenever they're on the menu). Spacious bar plus lots of seating throughout, right-o. Dim lights good for canoodling, check. My fave Blue Moon on draft, yep. Clean bathrooms, yep again. And, it's super close to home for me.

I don't know that I'd consider Famous a dive bar, it just seemed like a typical sports bar to me. On a Saturday night it was pretty empty, save for our large group out celebrating Berlin's birthday.
When I ordered a 90 minute Dogfishead, the bartender was kind enough to let me know that it was higher alcohol content than a typical brew. Dude, I know. Why else do you think I'd order it? I mean, we're headed to the Pink Pony later, I need as much booze as I can get at this point. Alas, it would certainly be good information for the uninformed.
I will comment at the low low drink prices... life in Decatur is pretty good! The food was also a good bit better than expected for a supposed dive bar. The chicken fingers were awesome and my spinach dip was mighty tasty.
While I didn't partake in any of the various games they've got set up around the bar, it looked like they had a pretty good selection. I didn't like the gangplank feel of walking to the back of the restaurant to the bathrooms.... I felt like I was on display for all of the pool players to heckle. And heckle they did. Maybe the grizzly clientele is what gives this place its dive bar status? -

Famous has a smaller room in the front of the place, and then after a walk through a somewhat narrow hallway you will find yourself in a much larger room inside this sports bar that is literally somewhat famous for Emory and Georgia State students.
I used to frequent this location when I first began my college career. Keep in mind, the times that I visited this location I did not know all there was to know about what makes a bar great. When I was younger I thought famous was one of the greatest bars in Atlanta. Now that I am older I am going to have to disagree with my younger self.
Famous has all of the typcial qualities that any sports bar should have, only they seem to have had a cheaper furnishing budget. Famous has many different television sets throughout the entire bar, but they look like they were bought at a pawn shop. They also have several pool tables to play on, but they are usually taken for most of the night by local college kids who would fight to the death before they let someone else play on "their table."
Famous is also not located in a very nice part of town. I don't think you would have to worry about getting assaulted in the parking lot, but you may worry about someone breaking into your car.
So, for all of the appeal this place may have to younger local college kids, the older less intoxicated crowd may be blind to why this place has any success at all.Listed in: Get Your Sports Bar…

Some of my best times in ATL have been at Famous. Sad, but true. I haven't been back since all of my Emory friends graduated and moved back to the northeast, but I still get a bit nostalgic when I'm driving around the area.
Famous is dim, smoky, and dirty, but it's very spacious and open, with high ceilings and plenty of seating. I'm a nightmare at pool, but I'm always suckered into a game here at one of their 5 or so tables. Surprisingly, the bathrooms are nicer than those at most pubs or bars. The photo booth doesn't always work (and you'll just have to take your chances - there won't be an "Out of Order" sign), but it's worth a shot; it's helped me piece together otherwise hazy recollections of nights at Famous and Maggie's (the bar next door - the two go hand-in-hand).
Can't speak for the food since I've never ordered anything, but the drinks are decent and the service has never been bad. Not sure how often I'd want to go there now, but I look back fondly and with a bit of jealousy toward the new Emory students whose good times are just beginning! -

Ok Yelp, you are starting to make me angry by removing my reviews... I know I reviewed Famous Pub months ago but alas my review is gone! So here we go again folks...
Famous Pub is pretty great. I have been here on several occasions. I have been here to celebrate birthdays, for co-ed bachelorette parties and just to get out of the house and grab a drink. I love the laid back atmosphere. You can sit around and chit chat, play some pool, or dance in the back if you happen to go on a Friday or Saturday. The drinks are good and reasonably priced. The staff is all super friendly - one of the guys there even gave my friend a piggy back ride (it was one of the items on her bachelorette scavenger hunt list). The food is decent - typical bar food and any other type of food wouldn't fit with the character of this place.
If you are in the neighborhood definitely stop by Famous.Listed in: 30329/30324, L-Boogie

I went here for the first time for the first leg of Berlin's birthday bash. I liked the inside a lot, it was very open, had large projector screens for sports and tv which was cool. There were pool tables, arcade machines, and most importantly photo hunt. As a bonus they had the hard to find erotic photo hunt in both male and female versions and Berlin now has the high score on the male version.
The drinks were great. I was amazed as the prices, especially for a Saturday night. My Yuengling was $3.06 and the mixed drinks were not much more. My chicken fingers were okay, but I felt that the medium sauce was pretty spicy. I am pretty sensitive to spice though. A great evening for me is drinking and playing photohunt so I was happy. The added bonus was having Berlin get wasted and open very interesting gifts.
Only downside is they allow smoke inside so I felt disgusting by the end of the night. I really wish a few of these good places with good specials would stop allowing smokers inside. -

Any bar with Tulie, Gretchen, Lauren, and fellow friends is a good time in the making!
Upon approaching this place, I was unsure what to expect from the loud music beat I could hear from the outside, and the smokers exciting. The staff was friendly, quick to service all of our beverage needs. The place has tv's throughout, including 2 very large projections, along with pool tables in the back. For a Saturday night, it seemed empty, but that might be because the place has a lot of room, even with the outside area. Being a non smoker, I appreciated the extra space, to not smell like a tobacco factory.
The price was wonderful, $3 for draft beer, along with the fun bar video games, find the subtle difference in the naked photos below, always fun.
Though, I doubt they will ever see the luxury of Gretchen attempting to pole dance again!Listed in: Atlanta Yelp Places

Ah, Famous. One of those big flashy sports bars in a strip mall. Its saving grace is that it's one of the cheapest cab rides for Emory students. Thus why I have been here a handful of times. Although there's a weird assortment of people. It's students and old men. Cranky old men. Who knows.
If you go (this review won't be encouraging), order the french fries. Not the potato wedges, the fries. They're seasoned really well. Not that people come here to eat...
One good thing about this place is there's a little something for everyone. At the entrance there are tables, sports games on TV (voila the "Sports Palace"), and the main bar. Go a little farther and you have the pool tables. Enough of them that you can entertain the idea of being able to play that night. Pool makes me happy (I am such a shark. Or not at all.), so I'm rating 2 stars instead of 1. Throw in a couple of arcade games.
Then the sort of creepy room in the back: the dance area. There's a stage, and some people dance around, but it makes me feel awkward. Back out slowly. Exit the strip mall. Go elsewhere.Comment from Anthony T. of Famous Pub/Club Famous 12/17/2011

My Husband and I called around looking for the Mountain sport channel so we could catch our Wake Forest Demon Deacons take on BYU last night. Famous was the only bar we could find that was carrying it. So, they started off on the right foot.
We walked in immediately following the Falcon's loss to Arizona in the playoffs, so despite a few drunken stragglers the place seemed like it had just cleared out. We opted to sit on the heated patio, because of all the smoke. We still smelled like smoke when we got home, and we only walked through the restaurant when arrived and when we left. Ridiculous. If cigarette smoke bothers you or worse: you're allergic to smoke; stay far away from Famous.
Overall our service was above average, food was average bar food, but it was kind of sketchy, and I just wasn't impressed. If it's the only place we can catch a particular game, then we'll be back.
I suggest you seek out your closest Taco Mac for the next game vs. giving Famous a chance.Comment from Anthony T. of Famous Pub/Club Famous 12/17/2011

The people, bartenders and waiters, here are great. But the food is just abysmal. And overpriced considering how bad it is. Come here if you want to be hit on by a 50 Cent lookalike and hit a burger that makes the Wendy's down the parking lot look good.

Famous is a good place to hang out and watch games. The highlight is the two 120-inch high def TVs in the front room. I haven't seen that anywhere else in Atlanta. They also have, like most sports bars, a multitude of smaller TVs so you can watch all the games.
The servers are friendly, drinks are good and priced reasonably and you can smoke a cigar without getting hassled. The food is typical bar food and the kitchen stays open late.
Famous has four distinct areas. There is a covered patio in front which is great when the weather is nice. Some Fridays they will have live music outside. The front room inside is the main sports bar area. The middle section is where the pool tables are. The back in a strange mix of dance club and sports bar. It's a big place and you can be amazed how many people are there and you didn't even see them come in.
All in all, it's a good place with a relaxed atmosphere. -

Famous was the first bar I went to in Atlanta. A coworker of mine, who was a recent Emory grad, took me there on a Fri. night with the promise that we would order a beer tower (a roughly four foot tall tube of beer).
Unfortunately, Famous had recently enacted a new "towers only on Saturdays" policy, so we were out of luck. But we did get to see some great basketball on TV -- that was the night the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers started a brawl that spilled into the stands. I'll remember it always.
Famous is a total college bar in a less than ideal shopping center. The beer is cheap, there are lots of TVs, but word to the wise: occasionally, somebody gets stabbed in the parking lot. -

Nothing about this place invokes thoughts of famous or regal things ... not sure where the name came from, as it is clearly a misconstrued message.
Smoky. Crowded. Noisy. Greasy. Blah. -

The second you walk in your first impression is exactly what it you should go by. Its a hole. The service and.food could be awesome one day and bad the next. The only reason I rated it as high as I did is because this is a great regular bar. Once you've gone there enough for the employees and regulars to recognize you your treated like royalty. This is also a great bar if you like to see crazy things. For example I caught a middle aged couple having "fun" in the stall of the men's restroom. I suspected kids and was surprised to find the probable parents of highschoolers. I thought it was hilarious. If you did too you'll love this place. If your disgusted, well take my advice and skip this place.

I would give Famous Pub one or at most two stars if it were not the most reliable place in town to catch obscure PPV college football games. It's a lock that I can watch Tennessee play Bumblef**k Tech here even when no other sports bar in town in its right mind would bother carrying that game.
The clientele can be sketchy. Drunk men in their 40s and up a lot of the time.
Cigarette smoke doesn't usually bother me much, but I think the ventilation in there must be poor, because it seems particularly obnoxious there.
The food isn't great even by bar standards. Wings range from gross to serviceable depending on the luck of the draw. Avoid the nachos. Seriously.
Beer selection? What beer selection?
The list goes on, but I go back to avoid the PPV charges. And for that great service to the community, it gets an average three star rating despite not having much of anything else going for it. -

I never thought I would be pleasantly surprised but this place did surprise me. I didn't expect much at all from this pub, which is located in a a strip mall shopping center. The bartenders were all very nice, especially since we were a larger crowd, and quite rowdy at that, since it was Berlin's 30th Bday bash! The drinks were pretty good, and the price was wonderful. Cocktails and 5.00 and they were made to quench the thirst of alcohol.
Very roomy bar, and not as smokey as I had expected.
There is a large room in the back that is a bit darker, cooler, and roomier, which can definitely accomodate if you have a larger party for like a bachelor's party, or a meetup event. Staff were very good at what they did, everyone got their food and drinks without complaint!
I'd definitely come back!
DR on Yelp asked me why this place should be called Famous.. Well for me it should be famous for it's roominess, it's friendly and easy going staff, and it's ability to let a scary stuffed toy cat that meows, sit on the bar top, without having any problems through out the night. Just trust me on this one, you had to be there. -

Disregarding every other review point (food, drinks, etc), I am completely reviewing 'Famous Pub' based on the sketchos that frequent this bar. This would be the second time that one of my girlfriends in our group have had something stolen in this bar in the past 3 months. The first time, my friend's purse's contents were taken and her purse was thrown into the men's bathroom. This past weekend, my wallet, among other valuable possessions were taken out of my purse. I am now left canceling credit cards and applying for a new license. We will not be returning and I urge you not to go. It doesn't attract a friendly crowd.

Bad News for Drunks: a new law has emerged that will no longer allow aging -- or fledgling -- alcoholics to quietly indulge their favorite pastime alone at the bar. Yesterday at Famous I showed up a few minutes after my friend, only to discover that he'd been denied service when he ordered "a pitcher of swill." He was instantly informed that individuals could no longer order pitchers of beer all for themselves. When told this was the way things were, my friend asked, "For how long?" The waitress replied, "Forever." The conversation deteriorated at that point. We finally got our pitcher when I arrived. Just to test the new rule, I ordered "a pitcher all for myself" every time the waitress came by, and each time she politely cited the binding decree. Dark and ominous news for Atlanta's countless avatars of alcoholism...

Pretty good place to go and drink, although the beer is moderately priced, there are better values around. They do have great projectors, so for viewing sporting events its a great place. The food is really greasy and a bit overpriced, so I wouldn't recommend going with an empty stomach, but it has decent finger food and if you get really drunk you can rely on the fact that the kitchen doesn't close until 2am, so there's always something to eat there which is nice. Overall it's a nice hangout but know that its going to be loud and crowded with smoky atmosphere and greasy food. But hey, it's a pub, right?
