The food is predictably good from this chain - pretty darned good BBQ for a corporate entity. The service here on a recent lazy Sunday afternoon was annoyingly pokey given the few people dining at the same time.
Stay away from the catfish - breading is way too dense.
Brisket is the bomb!
Corn muffins almost make me like carbs again! -

Why is Dave famous? Not for his Beef Brisket!!!
My good friend Paul recently took me here for my birthday and we had a fun time hanging out and talking. (we didn't need food to have a good time...thanks for my bday lunch Paul)
The interior was perfect...I would call it modern rustic BBQ style. Our waitress was also really nice too but she was wearing someone else's name tag...I only know her as Shane!!!
I've had some really great BBQ in my travels and Dave's will not be added to my list. Really what makes this place famous? I'm still trying to figure it out.
We started with there 'New' Not'cho ordinary Nachos and I would call it interesting. I am not sure the flavors worked. It was kind of like a bad taco salad sitting on top of chips. It also came with tongs too...so it is more salad less nacho platter. I had to use a fork to eat it off my plate.
They also have a nice combo special on the back of the menu. It is kind of hidden and it is better then paying full price for a combo platter. It is available every day 11 to 4pm. Look for it to save money!!!
The two meat combo platter is 8.59. I chose the beef brisket and chicken wings. I asked the waitress about the chopped pork and her face didn't sell me on it.
The beef brisket was probably the worse cut of meat ever. It just didn't even feel like beef in my mouth. It was so overly processed. The only thing that saved it was there sauces on the table. The Devil's Sauce was nice and spicy...not too hot but a nice zing.
The buffalo wings were a little oily and tiny too. In fact, the buffalo sauce would not even stick to the wings because of all of the oil on them. We call that science...stuff slides off of oil including sauce.
The sides...I had the Mac and cheese...it was good but not great. It had some potential...they added corn and jalapeño to it. The spice was nice but it was a little dry...I would have liked some more cheese oozing in there. It also came with corn on the Cobb but I didn't eat it because it looked dry...my kernels resembled raisins and that's not good.
The best thing on my plate was the corn muffin. It was warm, moist on the inside and crunchy on top. It was the first thing I ate. I wish I would have had a basket of these.
Also something happen to our order too. There was some commotion going on. I saw a look in my buddies face (he is in the food industry) but I left it alone because it was my birthday. Then two minutes later the real Shane..."the guy not wearing a badge because our waitress was wearing it"... told us that there was a problem and our food would be coming out. He also said he was sorry!!! Then 5 minutes later our Waitress "Not Really Shane" told us the same thing.
I found it funny that they never offered anything for there screw up. Most places do something to make it right!!! My buddy made a few jokes about it and then they offered us desert. Not right away...it was after we got our check. In fact, I know my buddy he really didn't want anything for free...he wanted to just see the jester. In fact, he told the waitress to put the ice cream on the bill but she didn't.
Famous? I still do not know why!!! If I was to compare Dave's to other BBQ I've had, then I would put Dave right at the bottom. It was not good food and I would probably never eat her again. For me...I figured it out...Dave is famous for being bad BBQ!!! -
Review from Dave S.
I tried to go in here with an open mind. I love me some BBQ, but I am not big on chains so I was not sure what to expect from this place. We were coming back from a long drive from northern Wisconsin and we were just looking for a familiar place to grab some dinner. We were tired from the drive and we were just just not looking to get too adventurous in our dinner selection.
Our waitress was really friendly but I think she may have been preoccupied with other things as she disappeared for long spells at a time and forgot or corn muffins. I thought the place was clean and well kept and made me feel comfortable.
We ordered the meal for two and the "for two" part was an understatement. This was plenty of food for about 3-4 but I was happy because we got two meals out of it. They must have had most of the food ready as she brought it out very quickly. I was immediately thinking that this was going to be some old staged food being brought out to us, but I was happily mistaken. Everything was delicious.
I have had better BBQ before but this was still very good and I most likely won't be returning to this location but I would definitely try to stop by into a closer location. -

Overall this is a pretty good place for BBQ. Waitress was nice, food came quick, place was clean, food was great. I'm a huge fan of the mac and cheese (corn and jalapenos? who would've thought!). I can't give this a 5 because I've had better BBQ and the potatoe chips they make homemade are always soggy but for a chain restaurant, this place is great!

I'm embarrassed to admit that I chose a BBQ chain over a local Kenosha family joint...and I'm even MORE embarrassed to admit that I enjoyed every bite of the carnage. Yes, the interior looks like a mix between Apple Bees, TGIF Fridays and LoneStar with the "antiques" decor but if you can get past that fact then you're good to go. Personally I was able to achieve this by chuckling at the worker wearing an all-black shirt reading "A rib a day keeps the vegans away."
I was set on having the Dave's Famous Feast-For-Two (heck it should be called Feast-For-Three or -Four). Three of us dug into the upside-down garbage can lid piled with countless beans 'n slaw, corns-on-the-cobs, corn muffins, potatoey french fries, St. Louisian spare ribs, roasted chicken (a bit bland and dry if you ask me) and my favorite thing here, beef brisket. To make it even better, you can sample and personalize the flavors to your own tastebuds with the 8 Famous Daves BBQ Sauces on your table. I'm not a fan of spice so I LOOOVED the Sweet & Zesty Sauce (sounds like I'm describing myself...). Oh and feel free to get messy because your table comes prepared with a roll of paper towels and tons of wet wipes. I can't forget to mention how nasty the Bloody Marys are. Wayyy spicy and too much Worcester sauce--EW!
This place is great for eating in with a big group on Sunday when places like the Barbeque Factory are closed.Listed in: Gimme That MEAT! Smoked BBQ…

Best BBQ around, PERIOD! This place rocks. I love the food and friendly, casual atmosphere. You get LARGE portions, so come hungry and pig out (pun intended.) i recommend the brisket and pulled pork, but I have also had their St. Louis ribs and they're great two. The menu is loaded with choices and there is something for the whole family to enjoy. Also, if you have a large group, try their family platers -- great variety, GREAT BIG portions! Enjoy!

We were looking for some good BBQ and there isn't alot in K-Town. Our waitress was quick to bring beverages and average in speed of taking our order. One of the waitresses (not ours) was kind enough to dim the lights because the bulb above our table was blinding! Our food came quickly but after that we rarely saw our waitress. My husband had to go to the bar to get me a glass of water! The BBQ brisket sandwich was very tender and flavorful. The fries were ok as well as the garden salad. I did like they had hard boiled eggs on the salad. We may go back again but may eat at the bar!

Kenosha, WI
I'm not originally from the US and if I ever move back to my homeland there are a couple of things I will miss about Wisconsin. One is Culvers and the other is Famous Daves. Their food is the tastiest I've had anywhere in the area and fortunately they also have opened other locations across the country, so you're not limited to just the Kenosha one. Try their "Feast for Two". It's served to you on an upside down lid and comes with a wide selection of some classic BBQ food staples. And, if you're a dessert fan, their bread pudding is absolutely the best you'll have anywhere, guaranteed.
