Family RV is my destination for choice for my RV maintenance and needs.  They have done work on my rig twice.  Their prices are great and they are accurate up front as to what it is going to cost.  I like that they have a "to not exceed" amount on the forms you fill out.

Go see Matt there!  He is great.

Horrible business practices. Health Safety Concerns. Do not rent from this company.

We recently used this company to rent an RV for Burning Man.  To put it bluntly, this company is running quite the racketeering service.

Unprepared RV and Failing Life Necessities.
When we arrived at our destination, our refrigerator and water did NOT work. The fridge never cooled, and the water dripped enough to wash a few dishes. As a result, all of our food spoiled and when you're in the desert, with no cellular service,  the nearest grocery store and trash cans hours away,  we had no recourse but to place spoiled food in trash bags underneath the vehicle.
-When we returned the vehicle, they blamed us for not calling them (knowing we were at Burning Man with no cell service) and blamed us for having too much food in the RV.....

As if this wasn't enough, after only two days of barely being able to wash dishes, our grey water tank overflowed into our shower leaving two inches of sewage water.
**This company paid absolutely NO attention to properly preparing this RV for use, exposing us to disease, which is exactly what happened. TWO of us got feverishly sick.**

No attempt at refunding for broken fridge/water and ill-prepped vehicle
When our driver returned the vehicle, there was no mention of any refund for their ill-preparedness. I , being one of those sick, took a week to recover.

    Horrendous and unexplained cleaning fees
In fact instead of a refund we were hit with an even larger fee. An unscrupulous amount of $600. Bare in mind, they charge $50/hr for cleaning. When demanded to show an itemized list of what caused 12 hrs of cleaning, which we were never given.

Before returning the RV, we spent 3 hrs cleaning out our RV, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming. A team of 6 of us. Please explain to me what, on earth could take 12 hrs to clean??

As Rick has reminded me to add below. I was not actually the contracted driver of the vehicle. I was a passenger on the trip. When I called to talk about these discrepancies I was VERY curtly told " I had no authorization to speak about the RV situation and was immediately told good day and hung up on."

Its unfortunate that only through the use of YELP can I actually get this companies consideration.

If anyone has any doubt about actually using this service, they can contact me directly. I have used RV companies in the past with fantastic results and customer service, El Monte being on of my favorites for Burning Man.

In fact I will be contacting officials of Burning Man to make sure they realize what kind of company this is and to warn all Burners, beware of using this company.

thank you, and I hope I can help others not have to go through the horrific experience that we had.

Their prices were crazy high, even for burning man week. We brought it back spotless, but got a couple dings at the very end of the ride back :( We bought their insurance, but the deductible was insanely high ($1,000) so it didn't really help. Granted, they could've screwed us much more on the final bill (but thankfully we only got slightly screwed).

All told, we could have built a small air conditioned mansion in the desert for the price we paid, but I guess that's what we get for renting an RV for burning man. I would probably recommend them for a non-burning man week if you have full coverage, but getting insurance from them isn't really worth it.

I had reserved a class "C" motorhome from Family RV for a 4 day 3 night trip in a week or so. In the meantime we purchased a brand new class "B" for ourselves and wanted to cancel the reservation.

Even though we could have forfeited our entire $500 plus deposit the folks at Family RV were happy for our purchase (we did not buy from them) and refunded our deposit.

Every person I came in contact with at this business was friendly and helpful not to mention pleasant. Great place to shop, we'll be back.

I am updating my review, and settling on 2 stars instead of the 3 I originally gave based on 3 things:

1-The manager sent me a message to discuss my review...41 MONTHS LATER!!! Yeah...timely, eh? This is the FIRST TIME since my rental that I was contacted. Richard...I appreciate the message, but come on now...that was a sales pitch, not a customer care message.

2-I have referred additional people to this location, each has rented and each has experienced the same things I did. They were glad I set expectations and they were satisfied with the rentals. Too bad they don't Yelp. :-\

3-I have rented from other places, both commercial and private-party, since Family RV and have been much happier with overall service. Cleaning and damage is a big issue with everyone and I am VERY glad I took photos and video of before/after to counter the claims from one company.

I do not expect to rent from them again.

After seeing the comment by Family RV, I re-read my review to see if I was being unfair or acting out. However, after reading it, I stand by the review.  IMPORTANT: It is possible that they have improved since I wrote this. Afterall it was a year ago. However, I have not seen them address a single criticism in my review. Rather, they just keep asking me to take it down. I think I made some good points and frankly not sure why they don't address them or defend themselves.... on the specifics.

And, if they are providing good service and value to their customers, other people will fill this page with great reviews, and I will be reduced to an whining anomaly.

BOTTOM LINE: My primary beef is that they charge a huge premium for BM and then add significant penalties for cleaning (and fixing wear and tear items), but provide NO PENALTY on themselves for failed systems.

Do not rent from this place. I used Family RV a few years ago to go to Burning Man. We spent 3 hours cleaning the RV and then they charged us for another 3 hours of cleaning at $50 an hour. Also, we were given several hours of generator use and we are certain that we didn't use it all but we still got charged. I've heard other people complain about them as well. I've used other RV companies to go to Burning Man and no other place charged the exorbitant cleaning fees that this place did. (They charged us for cleaning the under carriage of the RV, ridiculous!)

I rented a 23' RV because we had family coming in town and I needed more bedrooms. I used Family RV because they had a cheaper rate, but it wasn't worth the hassle. They aren't real big on customer service. The checkout and check-in process was pretty slow.

I could overlook that, but when I returned the RV the guy checking it in found a minuscule hole (the size of a pencil point) in the awning. We never used the awning, so it must have been there before. The guy told me how it had been inspected by two people before I rented it and neither of them saw it, so it must not have been there. But, the hole was so small I'm sure it was easily missed. So, they said they would be charging me $900 to replace the awning.

I asked why they wouldn't just put a patch over it, but they said it was a new RV and a patch would decrease it's value. I filled out a form to repudiate the charge. They said they would let me know in a couple of days. Fortunately, they decided it wasn't worth charging me. Was that because they actually decide to be reasonable or because they realized I wasn't going to pay without a fuss? Who knows.

So, a word of warning. If you rent from them, inspect everything very carefully on checkout and make sure they put any damage on the checkout form. Otherwise, if they find damage, regardless if you caused it,  they'll try to charge you. I kind of wonder if this is a scam they have going on...rent an RV with a small defect, find it on check-in, then charge the customer, don't do the repair and keep the money. I have no proof that they are doing that, but I'm a bit suspicious, especially after reading the other reviews on here.

    Renter beware!

I had a similar experienc as Rikk C. and Amy W.  The sales staff was very friendly and nice but when I returned the vehicle you deal with a different group.   I was charged over $500 for some strips of wood that were not glued on properly so they vibrated off during our week long trip.  I also spent several hours cleaning the RV and they still charged us for cleaning both the inside and outside.

I have been doing business with family rv for many years.  I bought a 23ft. toybox there about two years ago.  Before that I rented several times from them so i could get an idea of what to buy.  The customer service has always been great, rick-gus-matt and all of the other people there have always been very polite, they offer all sorts of services and tons of great product to choose from.  RV's can be expensive and they take maintenance so having these guys to help is a god sent.  When I first bought my trailer my family and I went on vacation.  During this time I had problems handling my unit, this was my lack of understanding, but it created panic as we had no heat or cooking.  Not only did they help over the phone a whole bunch, they even found someone where we were staying to come and help us!  I can not tell you how great this was-it literally saved our vacation.  Once again thanks to everyone there-they have my business for a lifetime!
    Dale

P.S. I've read the negative reviews-and let me share this with all of you-people who "rent" to go to Burning Man are NOT family type people.  We are talking about "Burning Man"!  not a nice family vacation!  Of course these clowns are bitching about a cleaning deposit-they are party animals-trashing the RV that some poor family is going to rent later on.  Get a grip you fools-you know damn well that you are not taking good care of those units!  Thats why you are renting-so you don't trash your own stuff!-Renters are Renters-whether it's a house or an R.V.
