Review from B S.

We just returned from a fantastic Thanksgiving kayak paddle on the Colorado river with our guide, Marie. The trip was well organized and Marie knows her stuff. The kayaking was all flat water - no rapids. The campsites were primitive but well located for our small group. I'll be going on another Family Kayak Adventure.

If you've never tried kayaking before, this is a great introduction! I had been to a concert at Humphrey's before and noticed a group of small boats and kayaks "parked" in the marina enjoying the music.
So when the Gipsy Kings were performing I thought I would give kayaking a try and went with a group led by Family Kayak Adventure Center. You don't have to be an experienced kayaker. They bring the kayaks, life jackets, etc. and show you the "back door" to get to Humphrey's. You just bring yourself, some snacks, and a blanket if you want to wrap up at the concert. I didn't know a thing about kayaking but after a short lesson by the owner I felt like a pro.
What a unique way to experience a concert! The downside is that you only have a partial view of the stage, but you can hear the music just fine.
The weather happened to be gorgeous too. We paddled over to Humphrey's on a warm, sunny late afternoon, enjoyed the Gipsy Kings under a pink & purple sunset, then paddled back under a starry Summer night sky! The water was not even very cold as I had feared.
If you want to do something unique for a date or have visitors from out of town, this is a great choice! I highly recommend. -

I had heard about kayaking to see the Humphrey's concerts by the bay and found online that Family Kayak takes tours to go see the concerts. It was an amazing experience and the most fun I've had in a while! Everything was well organized and we got a great group discount! Will definitely use again. Thanks for the wonderful memories!!!

History
Established in 2002
Family Kayak was the inspiration of Marie Humphrey, owner and founder. Marie grew up in San Diego County and was always exploring outdoors at the beach, mountains or desert. When she was introduced to kayaking, she loved it instantly. What better way to explore San Diego County than on our local bays, lakes and rivers.
She decided she wanted to introduce families to kayaking because it is a great way to explore the outdoors even if you have children of different ages.
"We often partner up a younger child with an older child so they can learn to work together as a team" says Humphrey. "The older child takes pride in teaching and the younger child learns confidence and trust in the older child. This is what mentoring within the family is all about."
Family Kayak has a wide range of life vests and paddles to fit those from 2-years of age all the way up to super large adult.
They specialize in beginning paddlers and no prior swimming or kayaking experience is required.
Meet the Business Owner: Marie H.
An active kayaker, Marie Humphrey has been a trip planner and lead kayaker since 1995. As a Certified Kayak Instructor through the American Canoe Association, Marie's knowledge of the San Diego kayaking area is second to none. With a Wilderness First Responder (Advanced First Aid) certification through Wilderness Medical Associates, her abilities and training give her the skills to put safety first for everyone.
"We don't go out in the open ocean. It is too unpredictable", says Humphrey. "Instead, we paddle the protected waters of San Diego Bay, Mission Bay, the local City and County lakes and the Lower Colorado River."
