12 reviews for Fallen Leaf Lake
Fallen Leaf Lake is definitely a beautiful place. It would have 5 stars if it wasn't such a pain to get to on that bumpy, one lane road. Then again, if it was easy to get to then it would be too touristy like most spots around Lake Tahoe.
Great place to relax on the beach and sip a beer on the deck overlooking the lake at the general store.
We braved the 1 lane road to Fallen Leaf Lake...to go to the beach there. It was great for our beach baby!!
Plenty of shade...a raft to swim to...great spot for families!
The fees for the boats were outrageous...oh my!!
The general store has ice cream cones...which was a nice finish to another great picnic made by DD!!
Stay away... Nothing to see here, people - nope, nothing at all... You really won't like this place - I *promise*. Stick to the big lake down the road. All of these other 5-star reviews? Must be some kind of "insider" voting, because this lake is absolutely, most certainly NOT the most gorgeous freaking place you've ever seen in your life, complete with amazingly clear water, beautiful mountains all around, and a waterfall that buries Niagara Falls in terms of quality (not quantity)... Nope - none of those things. Might as well just stay at your casino and play the slots.
;) (wink-wink)
Very tongue-in-cheek here, people... Relax!
The end of the lake closest to Tahoe is a wonderful place to camp, swim and walk. Don't bother to drive to the other end. It's single lane and a pain, and I'm from the mountains. It does not have much to offer except a lot of lake houses and a small bearutiful chapel. Too many residences and building for us. The best view is from the other end of the lake anyway.
I suspect the previous reviewer is not a nature enthusiast (maybe it was the "stay at your casino") comment. I imgaine this is why he disliked it.
Fallen Leaf is not action packed, touristy, or bustling. It's just the opposite. Relaxing, quiet, family friendly, with stunning views. There's just good old fashioned fun here. Swimming, boating, hiking, skipping rocks, walking down to the general store, getting an ice cream cone. It's a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of South Shore, with stunning views to add to the pleasure.
One of the best kept secrets in Tahoe. I always try to make it here on every trip to Tahoe, even if just to hang out at the general store and sip a pop. Couldn't imagine a more relaxing spot, that is very tourist free. The drive is long from hwy 89, it's almost all single line. No wonder it's all closed during winter. Stanford even has a private club here, beaucoup $$$ for land. Can't wait for Summer!
Awesome lake! I found it in a hiking book that labeled it "best" for scenic view. It exceeded all expectations.
Fallen Leaf Lake is about 1/2 a mile from the parking area with a few different hiking/walking trails around it.
BONUS: Dogs are allowed off leash.
Oh, such a beautiful spot for a swim in the lake or a picnic alongside it. Just watch out for the wildlife - I had a swarm of snakes around me at sunset once when I was enjoying a summer swim.
Just a bit up the road from the campground is a wonderful trail to access Fallen Leaf Lake. The area itself is simply breathtaking and a perfect place to spend the day...so pack a picnic! There are ducks and beautiful clear water to enjoy.
Wow, I actually like it better than the BIG lake. This lake seems to be an escape for those 'in the know'. and has stunning views along with challenging bike rides and fun swimming/boating. This location works best, tho', if you have a friend with a home on the water :)
Such a pretty, pretty spot with amazing views of the mountains. Between the ocean on one side, and the mountains on the other, Californians are really blessed with more then our fair share of scenic beauty.
Lake Tahoe has so many beautiful and breath-taking places to visit, hike, camp, wander around, etc. and Fallen Leaf Lake is definitely one of them. It's free to visit and park too and it is an easy hike from the parking area to the lake. The lake is very tranquil and serene and for those who want a more secluded place than Lake Tahoe this is a perfect spot. It is very easy to relax here and get away from the every day world. I just visited to see the lake, wander around, and dip my feet in the cold refreshingly clear waters, but I could easily come back again with a picnic and book in hand to spend the day.
