The falafel may be only average, but the man behind the counter called me his friend... repeatedly... in virtually every sentence...
"Spicy sauce, my friend?"
"Israeli salad, my friend?"
There you have it. If you DON'T go to Falafel Fusion, you'll be letting down a close personal friend of mine.

Boo.... No more falafels in the hood.
My boyfriend and I were walking around the neighborhood, and we decided to try something besides the usual thai, mexican, and pizza variety. I mentioned to him that there was a new falafel place open and I never tried it before, so we headed straight there. The guy that works there was extremely friendly with helping me through my first falafel experience. He told me about the different salads and he let me try a sample falafel, which is a tiny fried chickpea ball. My boyfriend got the falafel with the Israeli salad, and I got a plain pita with hummus and babagonosh. The pita tasted very fresh and it was surrounded with flour. My boyfriend's Israeli salad was also fresh because the cucumber and the tomato had a firm bite to it. I really enjoyed my sandwich which was only $4.50, and I will definitely go back because I haven't yet fulfilled my falafel craving.

3 weeks ago, I woke up and took a peak out the window to check the weather. I was blasted in the face by a huge bright orange sign, "Falafel Fusion" WHAT!?! Where in the world did this come from? I was very very excited. This neighborhood has a shortage of non-pizza or Chinese food restaurants.
Every morning since then, the first thing I did was to look out the window to see the status of FF and everyday I had been disappointed.
Until ...
Today!!!! Colored flags flying in the wind, cut out florescent poster boards advertising appetizers, a salad bar, etc. etc. "OPENING" in big letters!
"Ahhhh!!!!" I got my roommate. (it's a long story, but we made a trade and my end of the trade was that he buys me falafel fusion the day it opens.) We walked across the street to find a few people eating and a few people in line checking things out. They have a glass window with the salad bar behind. Lots and lots of options. We asked for 2 falafel sandwiches. He fries 'em up fresh and asks, "what you like?" and nods to the salad bar. I got mine with Jerusalem salad, hummus, chili sauce, and tahini. I could have gotten a larger variety of things but kept it simple.
"Oh, you live across the street? Sit down, enjoy yourself, pay when you're ready!"
We did. Washing it down with a Snapple and DC for me.
We were not disappointed. (Believe me, I was worried since week 2 that it wasn't going to turn out the way I dreamed. VERY worried.) The pita was fresh and fluffy and the salads were great. The place was clean and roomy. They have a variety of breakfast items and sandwiches. I didn't catch the soup of the day. My dream had come true. Total damage for the both of us: $9 and we left full.
This is MY day.

Oh Falafel....I.. I love you.
For some weird reason, although I've lived in the city all my life, I had my first falafel 2 weeks ago. It was prompted by the opening of Falafel Fusion (who incidentally was not open for a couple days around the weekend when i was craving). I went somewhere else and had a subpar falafel experience. I knew that I couldn't judge fully until i tried it here in my own nice neighborhood.
SO GOOD! I never tasted a fresher/fluffier pita. The falafel itself was flavorful (i tad salty-- but it all worked out), not dehydrated by the frying process-- just really fresh-tasting goodness. I was offered the addition of hummus and Israeli salad-- so I took it. Along with the white sauce which he said the name of but it got by me. This is the only issue I have here-- they need some signs. I didn't want to say it on the first visit-- but I will be back, and I will win them over (Although friendly, they were kinda giving me the look like "does this black chick know what falafel is" -- but sometimes I misconstrue the look of "Will she love me or leave me....and my falafel" for the aforementioned look) I would like each salad type and sauce to have a tiny label-- nothing fancy.
Overall its yummy-- Try it out. I would like to see this place hang around the neighb to break up the chinese/thai/pizza monopoly.
AMMENDMENT!!!
WOW! I got around to this place again tonight and had the $7 Falafel Platter. 5 balls/5 salads. The Babaganoush-- OH! SOOOOOOOO GOOD! the Tebouli.... YUMMY. There was a spicy tomato salad-- Great...etc, so forth-- this place remains fresh and delicious-- really come out and try it. The pita-- STILL THE FLUFFIEST!

Fantastic falafel. We weren't too psyched about the knishes, which were heavier than most, but the awesomeness of the falafel, the friendliness of the staff, the super-fast delivery time, and the unbelievably hot spicy sauce made up for them. We order from there at least once a week.
It is a veggie place, though, so be aware of that -- the first time we ordered, we had no menu, and tried to order kabobs. I was so worried I'd insulted them, but the guy was really nice, and said, "Oh, I am so sorry, we do not serve meat," instead of giving me a 'tude, which is rare round these parts.

Yummy falafel, accompanied with a tempting spread of toppings and accoutrements. I suggest the combo platter. For 7 bucks, you get a big fluffy pita bread, freshly fried falafel, and generous servings of hummus, baba ganoush, and whatever fresh salad items strike your fancy. The sandwiches are also good for a quick on-the-go meal.
