I wish we lived closer because if we did, I'd literally bring my daughter everyday and let her play for hours and hours. It's inexpensive, clean and lets kids use their imagination while working up a sweat.

So to describe the place it's a theme-park that kids (and parents) can walk through and play in. The whole facility is made up of all of our favorite fairytale stories. There's Kind Arthur's Castle that you can walk through and play in.. Captain Hook's Pirate ship that you can go aboard and steer.. there's the Shoe-house that old woman lived in, etc.

There are tons of slides and things that the kids can climb on. My daughter had such a blast that she literally ran from building to building and then back because she didn't know what she wanted to play with first. We spent hours there until my daughter was red in the face and exhausted. We literally had to trick her to leave otherwise she would have stayed there all day if we let her.

We purchased the combo ticket when visiting the Sacramento Zoo. Hands down, my daughter enjoyed her time at the park much more than at the Zoo. There are tons of shaded spots around the park that parents can sit and watch their kids from.

We luckily went to visit on a cool June day. It wasn't quite warm but I could imagine that in the summer it gets pretty warm out. Afterall, it is Sacramento! Feel free to bring drinks and snacks. They don't care to check it at the gate :) If you forget to pack a snack they have a food area that you can stop at in the park. I didn't see what they had because we had just finished up lunch before stopping by.

If you have kids under 10 yrs old, I guess it's worth it to check out Fairytale Town if you're going to the Sacramento Zoo anyways.  It's across the street from the Zoo.

Since it was FREE for Sacramento Museum Day (2/7/09) we went.  It's just a small park for kids to slide down on, run around.  Could be a good area to take pics of the kids & family.

I liked the Humpty Dumpty Bridge
King Arthur's Castle - nice to walk through.
Pirate Ship - looked neat
Japanese Garden  - not much of it.
Jack & the Beanstalk - kid climbing thing
Mother Goose
Crooked Mile - looked fun, didn't look like a mile to me.  Lots of zig zags to run around.
Old Woman's Shoe Slide - slide looked fun
Owl's House - slide looked fun

Some live animals:
Three Little Pigs - saw 2.
Three Billy Goats Gruff - saw 2.
Mary's Little Lambs - saw one

We didn't stay long, but it's kinda cute and for the kiddies.

Reg. admission
Weekdays $3.75
Weekends & Holidays $4.5
FREE: Children 2 & under
If you do a Zoo & Fairytale Town they have combo deal: $10.25-13.75

I am not a big fan of kids, so it was a little surprising when I decided to have one.  Needless to say, she has been the best addition to my life ever.  With that said, still not a big fan of kids.  But, I decided that she needs to get out and socialize with them and took her to Fairy Tale Town.  It was the best $4.50 I ever spent.
I took her early in the morning to avoid the kids, I mean crowds, and it was really nice.  There are so many different little spots for the children to play and even a toddler play area.  She was entranced the whole morning.  And I was able to meet some mommies and daddies who like me could also care less about other kids than their own.
I really recommend this place to any parent.  It's so much fun and safe.  Its also perfect to build creativity.
I have not one bad thing to say about it.....that rarely happens.

Have you seen my childhood???

OH WAIT!! THERE IT IS! AT FAIRYTALE TOWN!!!!

Thank goodness I found it! But seriously this place is a magical, local venue for any child of any age, and adults can even escape back to their favorite fairy tales by sitting on mother goose's story book for a photo op, jumping in the little engine that could and pretending to be a conductor for a few seconds, climbing up to the tip top of the shoe that the little old lady lived in during that favorite story of so many childhoods.....it is all so great!!

I will always remember running along the crooked mile and trying to ditch my brother on the turns since I was the older one--it is surrounded by trees and bushes and all of the big kids used to jump down off of the crooked mile and take short cuts! I think I would still do that now!

Honestly this place will forever hold a spot in my heart and I cannot count the number of times I went here with my family because we went that often. We had a frequent visitors card and one of the best things about this place are the little plastic keys the kids get that when used on special machines they tell you the stories that correspond with all of the classic fairytales that are depicted in the attractions. Oh and they have a great safe trick or treating night at halloween too for the kids my favorite spot was turning the pirate ship into a ghost ship!

And one last thing, and then I will stop telling you why this place is so incredibly amazing for kids, but they have a castle in the center and you can rent it out for little kid birthday parties! I can still remember the outfit I wore for my party here when I was little because it was simply that memorable. Go here and say hello to humpty dumpty who sits on the cobblestone like welcome archway!!

great place for the kids and it sure brings back so many memories.

i still have to say that oakland fairyland takes the prize here as far as the fairyland concept goes. the one in oakland has also been around much longer so we know where this place got the idea. this place does however take the prize when it comes to cute animals living in crappy conditions.

One of Land Park's Trifecta of Fun destinations, Fairytale Town is perfect for kids three to six/seven years old. The grounds are filled with activities and play structures that challenge the minds and muscles of the miniature set.

We've been to FT Town at least three-dozen times in the past three years. Reviewers' complaints about dilapidated attractions were addressed this past year with the addition of new paint park-wide, a new fence around the park perimeter, new woodchips in the play structures, and several other enhancements. My daughter spends much of her time sliding on the park's half-dozen slides, and also enjoys the Crooked Mile. We recommend: The Old Lady that Lived in a Shoe slide; Owl's Tree House; the Crooked Mile; Sherwood Forest; The Giant Foot (not the real name); and the sheep (yes, there are live sheep, goats, a cow, a donkey, and pigs at FT Town).

Admission is less than $5, and you're just steps away from the Zoo, Funderland, and pony rides (summer only). Parking is more difficult after noon, but not impossible; try the overflow parking lot between FT Town and the duck/goose hangout, and fishing lake.

The kids had a blast  even if it was kind of cold that day. There was a ton of fairy tale stuff for them to climb on that was kid friendly. piraites ship, big shoe, castle and slides. What a great way to burn off all the sugar they have been eating since halloween.
I remember a lot of it from when I was a kid. Its neat that its still around after all these years. The park there is really large with a fenced in area with animals you could hand feed.
Overall Fairytale Town is still wonderful.

Fairytale Town is a great place but I would say that it is best for kids 5 years or younger.  My nephew loved it when he was 3, but by the time he was 5 he was getting a bit bored with it.  It's basically an over-sized playground.

I had not been to Fairytale town since I was a little girl, up until earlier this week when I decided it was time to take my daughter.  We went during the middle of the week so parking was good and the park itself was not crowded, however it wasn't empty either.  I was surprised at how inexpensive it was to get in, only $3.75 per person on weekdays and $4.75 on weekends with children under 2 free.  We went ahead and purchased a story/song thing that you could stick in various boxes throughout the park and hear different stories and songs, it was $3 and will be good on return trips (as long as we can find it).

The park was relatively well maintained, the man made river/stream was pretty much empty though.  I loved the fact that it was pretty much the same as from what I remembered as a child.  The animals were all out and about and they even had the goats out on the grass grazing and the children could go and pet them and their handler was telling the children about them.

The slides were a big hit with my daughter who had to go on everyone at least 3 different times, which was great since at most there was one other child going on the slide so no lines.  The crocked mile was by far the favorite of the day (it was my favorite as a kid too) and she could handle going on it by herself, but made me walk it twice.

We had a nice morning at the park and I was able to visit with other mother's who had brought their children there for the day.  We only stayed a few hours but it was worth the price in admission for the short time we were there.  I look forward to bringing her back again.

A truly toddler-friendly venue. Built in 1959 yet well-maintained with continued improvements. If you had to pick just one place to go with the five-and-under crowd, this is a good choice. It has all the elements of a park, a zoo, a botanical garden, and a playground. Often there are special activities such as art, face painting, puppet shows and/or special events.

Make sure you check hours of operation before you head out; they keep different hours depending on the season. Winter hours are 10 AM to  4 PM Thursday through Sunday. Conveniently open on Monday holidays too. Longer hours March through October: open daily from 9 AM to 4 PM. Closed during inclement weather -- if it's overcast outside you may want to call first to make sure they are going to be open. If you come early in the morning, the equipment may still be wet, so you may want to bring a small towel.

Fairytale Town is home to lots of friendly farm animals, some of them pygmy/miniature. Lots of physical activities here; multiple slides, figurative storybook characters to climb on/in/around. Fun places to use your imagination and pretend. Nice little gardens (including one that features plants with names beginning from A to Z).

Many features, such as the drinking fountains and the potties at the Gingerbread House are scaled-down for toddlers. Unfortunately, you just don't see that in many places, even ones that are supposed to be kid-friendly.

Eat somewhere else; snack bar food here is atrocious. If you live nearby, get a membership and you'll save $. If you're just passing through, admission as of this writing is $4.25 on weekends and $3.75 on weekdays per person. Kids 2 and under are free.

Another plus to Fairytale Town is that it is located in William Land Park and close to other amenities such as the Zoo, Funderland, the pony rides, the ponds, the rock garden, the wading pool and fenced in playground, picnic areas, baseball, softball and soccer areas, and an almost 2 mile jogging path.

A fun and easy place to have a birthday party. Recommend the area by Sherwood Forest if it's a nice day -- play equipment close by.

Please note: even though this is located in a nice neighborhood, don't be foolish. Hide your valuables and lock your car. We recently visited and heard the sound of a window smashing. A quick-thinking man with a stacked SLR camera jumped up on some play equipment and got a picture of someone breaking into an SUV with a hammer on the other side of the fence. Don't know who ultimately got the last laugh.

For kids only: they won't let you in if you aren't accompanied by one. As a parent, I appreciate that.

The topper on the trio of kiddie-amusements at William Land Park.  It's especially fantastic because after you've spent all afternoon running around after a couple of rug-rats, there are plenty of lazy-adult benches to sit on while the little darlings run around some more and completely wear themselves out.
Fairytale Town is still wonderful in all it's faded glory.  It's so cute it's sickening.  And toddler-friendly so you can rest assured that your little one probably won't impale himself on anything.

My scary smart ten year old -the kid who disdained toys, who learned HTML at age five, and who loves nothing better than Algebra - recently informed me that he wasn't quite sure that the crooked mile was an actual mile.

That is the power of the fantasy that is Fairytale Town.  Even the most logical of kids become entranced as soon as they walk under the tiny arch, into the park designed just for them.

I won't say my age *cough 49* but when I was a kid, I loved climbing down the rabbit hole, playing on Cinderella's coach, having my 6th birthday in the castle,  and of course, running the crooked mile.

Sharing that with your own children is the quintessential Sacramento experience.  My oldest is 20, and we both have fond memories of hot afternoons spent there, wishing the moat was full of splashable water.  Throughout the years, I have brought all the young children in my family to this quaint storybook land.

It's sad that my kids and nephews no longer believe the crooked mile is actually a mile, but I look forward to the day when, cane and all, I can bring the next generation of my family to Fairytale Town.

Visited on the 4th of July with 2-year old son & husband.  Had a great time, and the price is so cheap, we were expecting to pay more.
Son loved Sherwood Forest and the Owl slide, as well as all the animals like the cute donkey.

Kids love it to pieces.  As a teacher, I got my exercise running after kids who could barely contain themselves all day.  I like the new Sherwood forest addition to the park the best.  I wish actually all the "areas" were a bit more separated off into their own little sections like that so we could watch children coming and going to the equipment a little easier.  All children with special needs and their parents get in free... and that is pretty radical.
I could have done without the 'river', as telling children not to go in the water is simply ineffective as a prevention tool.  Overall, it is an amazing place for children if you just have one or two to watch over.

When I was a kid...Fairytale Town was the next best thing to Disney Land.
No wait...maybe it was better than Disney Land.
Walking through the gates into the park felt like I was stepping into an imaginary world. I would run with my friends through the different tales and create stories that only build on your traditional fairy tales.
To me this imaginative play for young kids is crucial. You don't need powered rides or a man dressed in a mouse suit to create magic.
Fairytale land has it all. Tall trees, stories, squirrels, and fun. Seriously a great creation that should serve as an example of magic for everyone.

I have such fond memories of this place, it almost brings me to tears! Endless times of running (though you're not supposed to run) on the crooked mile, climbing in/on/through the big piece of cheese, trying to make the loudest echo in King Arthur's Castle, being afraid of the giant Old Lady in the Shoe slide.

I had the pleasure of taking my 4 year old nephew here and to see all of that experienced through a little person was amazing. He loved it!

It's always clean but it does need a little TLC.

This place is cute and a thousand million times better than fairyland or whatever it is called in Oakland.  I am a little sad about the animals I must say, I wish they were better taken care of, and that they did not look so sad, or angry the last time we were there they goats started battling eachother! but my daughter loves it there. and always has a blast when we go, she has been going since she was a little under 2 and she is about to turn 3, and the locations is freakin amazing! You have the zoo on ones side, pony rides right outside and Funderland (which is also a little sad but fun) next to the ponys you can literally be there all day, and the kids will have oodles of fun. I am not a huge fan of the food, but you can always take some with you. Have fun!

Fairy Tale Town.  It's lovely.  I remember running the crooked mile as a little girl ("can't stop for lunch, I'm on number 10!  Have to beat the boys!") and going down the slides, petting the old tortoise (since dead), staring at the cow and the donkey, and racing around looking at everything made of colorful fiberglass and recognizing everything from some children's story.  It's a magical place and I'm glad it's survived because now that I have a daughter, I can't wait to take her to enjoy everything Land Park has to offer.

You can buy an annual family membership for both Zoo and FTT.

Watch your head at the front gate, it's humpty's wall.  Ahem.

I haven't actually been inside Fairytale town since I was little.  Long time.  But I loved it, absolutely great memories there.  I have a picture of me when I was little crawling through the swiss cheese sculpture.  The Crooked Mile was my favorite part of the park. Gotta take your kids here at least once!  I don't have any so I'll have to take some one else's in order to go back.

I have wonderful memories of running the crooked mile and sliding down the corkscrew slide... 30 or so years ago. I am back for my nieces and nephews birthday party and am amazed how small or right sized the park is for kids. Walking up to the park I never had to duck to get into the park but the rocky portal to enter the park is truly kid sized and opens into a wonderland for the young and young at heart.
The park is immaculately taken care of, not the Disneyland level, but still very clean and well kept. All the old attractions i remember were still there, the old women in the shoe slide, the castle with the throne and my favorite, the crooked mile and barn slide.
This is really a kids wonderland and now they even have a Sherwood forest with a wobbly log to challenge your friends on... a little girl was monopolizing it at the time and I couldn't try it out.
If ya got kids, not yet for me, this is the place to take them!

Isn't anyone going to pipe up and express their dismay at the shape of this place?  It needs to be updated in a bad way: paint chipping off, things broken, things not working...I took my nieces there once and while they had fun (they're 3 and 5, what do you expect), for the price you pay to get in, I honestly think at the LEAST, a coat of paint would work wonders.

This is a great place to hang out with the little ones while you're in Sacramento.  Even though it's outdoors, it's cool in the shade during summertime.  They have a bunch of fairy tale-themed structures for kids to climb in, on, and around, and some tame (fenced) animals that can be hand-fed with grain from dispensers.  There is a moderately priced snack bar, but it's stocked with kiddie junk food.  Bonus:  It's right across the street from a zoo and a park with picnic tables.

A true make believers dream! An inspiration for the young imagination to run wild. My toddler will easily be able to go from 2 to 10, climbing, playing, pretending, in this magical little world. It could benefit from a little Extreme Playground Makeover, but again, it's only the HGTV addicted mom that notices a little chipped paint. It's a very cheery, easy place to take a seat and let your little one run around to exhaustion.
