3 reviews for Fairfield Inn by Marriott
This place likes to surprise a person.
It's just full of those surprises and I don't know if I really want to share them with you........... Ah why not. You're obviously reading this for a reason.
The first thing you should expect - A VERY friendly, polite and fun staff. When I originally called to make the reservation, this was while I was knee deep in a messy situation at another local hotel (don't worry - they're getting Yelped), I spoke with a very friendly and helpful employee at the Fairfield Inn.
She provided me with a detailed room description and even shared a very valuable tip. It's called the Family Emergency Discount, which is offered by the Intermountain Medical Center. Apparently, Marriott partnered with Intermountain Medical Center and provides families of sick individuals with a very sizable discount. An extremely helpful tip when you have to stay for 6 or more days.
In addition to that tid bit of information, she also saw to it that I would have a refrigerator in my room for all my gluten-free food! Our room wasn't even supposed to come with a fridge, but she saw to it that I got one. She also surprised me with a microwave - a very helpful tool when you have to heat up all your own food. The microwave arrived on day two, but that wasn't a problem since they offered 24 hour access to a very nicely equipped kitchen. The only thing the kitchen did not have was a stove. I actually didn't even miss having a stove, something I was even surprised with.
Secondly, they have an indoor pool and spa. My mom and I dipped our feet in the spa one night when we were feeling the stress of our journey. It was so nice and relaxing. Make sure to leave your towels in the hotel room, the pool area is already stocked with its own set of towels. Bring a pillow though.. especially if you plan on sitting on the side of the spa.. Actually scratch that - I don't think the hotel would appreciate their pillows being used for that purpose.
Possibly one of the most important things for a long term stay - are the beds. Let me tell you, these were nice and comfortable beds. Even if I did have to share a bed... with my mom... yeah, yeah - shove it! We had to conserve funds! Okay, anyway - the beds also came with an ample amount of pillows. I have a strong feeling that they probably had more hidden away in their magical linen closet.
I would definitely give Fairfield Inn 5 stars:
1 star for staff friendliness
1 star for staff efficiency
1 star for comfort and feeling of home
1 star for hotel cleanliness
1 star for good price and deal for your money
*1 star for going that extra mile for customers.
Okay, so 6 stars!
Thank you to the staff of the Fairfield Inn. My mom still misses the beds, apparently it was more comfortable than her own.

Really nice hotel for the very low price we spent on it. There were cookies and beverages at the front desk, and the staff was very friendly. The complimentary breakfast was very well-stocked, and even had an attendant microwave your breakfast sandwich or make your waffle for you. Beds and bathroom were nice. Nice showerhead. Only complaint was that it was a little off the beaten path. If you have a car there would be no problem, but having to walk from the TRAX station was quite inconvenient. They do not have a shuttle service from the airport either.
I'm starting to wonder if my judgmental attitude, further assisted by Yelp, is the root cause of all the bad karma I've had lately. So although I debated between 2 and 3 stars, I'll upgrade in the hopes of having something good come my way.
So me and some peeps that I work with walk in and check in. They tell me my room number, out loud. This is a big hotel no-no, because you know that some mean person is going to follow you and hurt you when that happens. My room just happened to be on the first floor, which is not something I'm comfortable with. So I ask for a room on a different floor, and all they have is a handicap "assessable." Not "accessible". Whatever, I'll take it.
After that little snafu (the front desk "manager" was NOT managerial worthy, the rest of my short stay wasn't bad.
The pros:
Good breakfast selection in the morning
Makeup remover wipes in the bathroom (great touch)
The cons:
The sink is TINY in that bathroom. No place to put my stuff on- like my hair styling tools. I guess electrocution is fun.
The "business center" is a computer in the middle of the tiny lobby that is the slowest piece of equipment ever. Ugh.
I won't stay here again.
Actually, it's highly unlikely that I will have to go back to SLC for business again, so it's a moot issue.
