18 reviews for Faccia Luna Pizzeria
After spending an entire morning helping a friend move boxes and furniture into his new apartment, we stopped here for lunch. I haven't had all the pizzerias in State College, but this one has got to be one of the better ones (with a decent beer selection to boot).
The wait is usually pretty long, but since school hadn't started yet, there wasn't a wait at all. Ordered the original Faccia Luna pizza, as well as another with a ton of sausage. Both were delicious. Everything is reasonably priced, but beers can add up on the bill.
Sure, there's a Pizza Hut just two blocks up. But Faccia Luna isn't that much more expensive, and the pizzas are a lot better.
Really at 3.5 rating.
In town for a conference my wife and I walked over to Faccia Luna. We sat in the back deck, which was outside and shaded on a beautiful summer day. As I've found in my trips to state college the service was warm and pleasant from start to finish.
We split the 16" large pesto, tomato, potato pie. We definitely were pleased with the freshness of the ingredients and the crust was a good combination of crusty and chewy. My one critique was the pizza was oily, not greasy, but oily. By no means enough to make the pizza bad though. I would just simply get a different pizza if we go back or try out the pastas other yelpers have noted.
She says: Great brick-oven pizzas -- that's all we ever order. We've liked every single pizza we've ordered; the crust is baked just right, and the toppings are fresh. The atmosphere is very cozy, and you can get a reasonably priced dinner for two by splitting a large (if you are hungry / want leftovers) or medium pizza.
He says: The best pizza I've had in PA, I would say. I've tried a bunch of places in Philly, including some pretty popular coal fired places and this is still considerably better. I have particularly fond memories of the Margherita and Faccia Luna (sausage, red pepper, & mushroom) pizzas.
I had high expectation for this place after reading reviews. I guess my expectation was too high- The food was really A-OK. We had baked mozzarella fingers, margherita pizza and some kind of pasta with white wine. The mozzarella sticks were just like the ones from grocery stores...and I would expect wood oven pizza to be less oily. Maybe what we ordered were not their most strong menus. Also, I went to Faccia Luna on thursday night and had to wait 20min(which wouldn't have bothered me at all if the food and service met my expectation). When we finally got our seat, it was super hard to get attention of the server and the empty plates were just sitting on my table for-ever! Would I go back? Meh...not likely, at least I can get better service in Olive garden and it's closer to my place.
One of these days, I swear I'll try the pasta. Yet another consistently good meal, and, like before, leftovers from a pizza piled with sweet ricotta, sausage, and roma tomatoes. I think we're starting to over-order on purpose--and why not, when the upgrade is only a couple of dollars?

My favorite pizza place in state college and a very good restaurant in a culinary anemic area. I have been here multiple times and have always had a great experience. The pizza is wood fired and the crust is very crispy. The sauce is chunky and there are plenty of toppings. All the makings of a very delicious pizza. The portions are very big so usually if I order a pasta or an entree, I will bring half of it home for another meal. Beer selection is very good and extensive.
Really good non-greasy pizza with delicious toppings. Probably the best pizza in State College... and there are a lot of pizza places in this college town. The pastas are pretty good too... homemade. They seem to cook their pasta al dente so if you are like me, you may want to ask them to cook the pasta for an extra minute or so.. sorry al dente pasta eaters out there.
Friendly efficient service. This place doesn't have much curb appeal located next to a motel, but the inside has a nice ambiance.
Recommend: gianetto pizza (on the salty side, maybe because of the double meat topping but ooh soo good), linguine with clam sauce, angel hair with marinara sauce,...
This is a brick oven pizzeria. The parking lot is pathetic, the waits are long, but it's worth every second of hassle. The pies are great. We had the Faccia Luna pie. It's thin crust with sweet italian sausage, and tomato. We paired that with a few ice cold yuenglings and experienced culinary heaven. I also asked them to bring bread out. It's fantastic stuff that smacks of middle eastern sesame bread. Unfortunately the oil at the table was bitter. It's no matter, though. It'd be like complaining abut the unpopped kernels in a great bag of popcorn. Service is fast and attentive. Ambience is low, but not terrible. This and the creamery make any stop to State College worthwhile.
Great toppings, amazing crust. Also has a very good beer selection.
We've eaten at Faccia Luna at least once a week for many years. The pizza and pasta are consistently wonderful! The vodka sauce is our favorite. The homemade pasta is perfectly cooked al dente every time. The thin crust brick oven pizza is always tasty - piled with fresh ingredients.
The only bad food we've eaten here is salad - sometimes it is great, other times it doesn't seem very fresh. One time there was so much brown lettuce in the salad we actually asked for new ones. The server said "There's always some brown lettuce" and walked away.
Service is hit or miss. Sometimes the staff is friendly, sometimes they act like we're interrupting their day.
My favorite restaurant in State College! Their pizza is to die for, pasta is delicious (raviolis and pasta with vodka sauce are my favorites) and I enjoy their Italian wedding soup, too. It's also very reasonably priced.
Tried the Giannetto pizza pie over the summer and it's everything that I expected. Extremely well made with none left over at the end. The actual meals are above average compared to what you'd expect downtown. For a few extra bucks and a slightly longer hike, you can get yourself a pretty good meal. Despite the slightly higher price, it's worth every cent.
I'm really picky about Italian food since I come from an Italian family, but Faccia Luna has some of the best Italian food I've ever had, and that includes the real thing from Italy. Being a State College native, I've been coming here for many years, but I always have a hard time deciding what to order because everything is really THAT good. By FAR the best restaurant in State College, period.
Appetizers: The tomato bruschetta is perfection although the mozzarella is NOT fresh so if you are picky about your cheeses (like i am) opt for it without the cheese. I would also recommend the portabella mushroom, it's massive and delicious. And of course you can't go wrong with Italian wedding soup, and their salads are always very fresh.
Pizza: First of all I have to say that while this pizza does not compare to what you get in southern Italy, it's still reasonably authentic. I would give it a 7/10. Compared to your usual American pizza though, (especially in State College) it's a 10. I always come here when I have a craving for REAL pizza, because this is as close as it gets around here. The crust is the perfect texture and seasoned well, and I really like that they used a homemade crushed tomato sauce, it's just flavorful enough without being too heavy.
Pasta: In my opinion, this is where Faccia Luna really shines. The homemade linguini is incredible, some of the best pasta I've ever had in my life (and I lived/studied in Italy for 4 months). The ravioli are also amazing although the portion size is small so I usually don't order them (I need to have leftovers to make the experience complete!). To be honest, I've only ever ordered the pesto/tomato sauce and the vodka sauce, but they are both up to standards every time. They don't drown the pasta in sauce like most other restaurants do.
I really could talk about my love for FL all day, but I'll leave it at that. The only negative point is that they don't take reservations and the place is always PACKED on Friday and Saturday nights. It's always worth the wait though!
While they have a pretty limited menu, Faccia Luna seems to pride itself on delivering quality food with fresh ingredients. Their brick oven pizzas are excellent, pastas delicious, and salads great -- always fresh and crisp. They also have very good special entrees on weekends.
This is a true neighborhood restaurant -- smallish and cozy with excellent friendly service. They are also quite kid-friendly -- this is one of our favorite places to take our two young children.
They also have a nice little bar area with a couple of flat screen tvs to watch the game.
Finally, I absolutely love that there is no smoking inside the restaurant!
I love smoked salmon and they have a great appetizer with large slices of smoked salmon draped over toasted baguette slices (is that a crostini?) topped with a small piece of mozarella and capers. Yum!
The pizzas have been good and I was happy with my linguine with clams dish (garlicky, which I love).
The service is good and it's got a great atmosphere, probably due to the pizza oven (Is it wood burning? Can't remember.) and dim lighting. There is a covered patio with heat lamps. This would be a good place to go for dates. Overall, an above average Italian restaurant. A nice alternative to the chain restaurants in town.
The only thing that really sucks about this place is the dreaded parking! It shares a small parking lot with the motel. You can also try to get one of the few spaces in the lot on the corner in front of the office supply store. Not sure if it's totally legal but a good business neighbor wouldn't complain about that, would they??
I have only been to this establishment twice, and I wish this last trip was for a more cheerful occasion, but the food, nonetheless was amazing. This place has great pizzas, wonderful pastas, and delicious desserts. My aunt and uncle frequent this place, and I was very grateful to have been introduced to it on the last two trips made to State College.
If for some reason you find yourself in State College, PA, stop by. You won't regret it.
I had two pies of pizza with two of my awesome study buddies before our final in immuno and WOW this totally hit the spot!! We got it for take out and bought it back to campus and I really loved the fact that obviously it's not chain restaurant pizza but actual pizza that has fresh, non-greasy ingredients! definitely order a pizza if you get the chance!
I've had a lot of pizza in many cities, and Faccia Luna has to be one of the best I've ever had, hands down. Their dinner salads, pizza, pastas and mixed drinks are top notch.
