Nice little place in Hollywood.  Cute & cozy backyard or patio area with nice waiters and a good choice of menu items.  The portions are pretty hearty, the olive tapenade is yum yum, the wine list pretty good.

Parking is easy with valet parking.  Definitely good for a small group and it's not too noisy.  I'd go back for sure!

The Fabulous cafe!
Situated among the boisterous Bowery and Magnolia restaurants, Fabiolus lets their food speak for itself.  The covered (heated) patio is both cozy and romantic.  The staff is very accomdating to picky eaters such as my freinds and allergy sufferers such as myself.
My favorite dish, the Veneta salad (add chicken, has tons of mozzarella, corn and avocado with super yummy lemony dressing.

M I C R O W A V E!

Is there a worse word to hear your waitress say when you've just told her your food is cold?

We were heading to the Arclight to watch Bruno and consulted Yelp on what decent restaurants are nearby. The Fabiolus Cafe popped up as a fairly good choice so we thought we'd give it a try.

We didn't order appetizers and went straight for main courses. I ordered the Lasagne and my wife order the Penne Vodka. After a few minutes the waitress brought us some bread to nibble on, about 5 mins later the food arrived. I thought this was unusually quick and instantly thought the food could have been microwaved. I started eating the Lasagna and sure enough it was scorching on the outside and stone cold in the center. I called the waitress over, told her the food was cold and she said 'Oh, they must not have left it in the microwave long enough'.

I had half expected it as there's no way it was oven baked. It wouldve been cooked all the way through if it had been freshly made and baked like a restaurant Lasagne should be.

After they took it away and nuked it again I carried on eating it as it wouldve been too late to get something to eat later after the film had finished.

Quite sad to see such a lax kitchen, especially when you're paying $15 for the priviledge.  If I want a microwave Lasagne I'll just hit to Albertsons and pay $10 less for it!

When we left the Fabiolus Cafe we went to Boho for a quick drink, the food there looked fabulous, we'll be steering clear of the Fabiolus Cafe and trying there the next time we're at the Arclight.

Good, hearty Italian. Always have the penne with radicchio and gorgonzola parmesan cream sauce. Heart stopping, but rich, creamy and how it should be! Have a good menu, and prices are reasonable too.

One of my favorite restaurants in town, and certainly my favorite Italian restaurant. Great food that is pretty authentic...particularly when compared to places like Micelli's. Nice atmosphere...very cozy, the inside feels like a little house, and the patio out back is very intimate. I've had a couple of birthday celebrations here with small groups of friends. parking lot is in back. Very friendly staff, and extremely great prices!

EW. You know what sounds delicious to me? A vat full of chicken bits soaking in radioactive orange goo. If you're into this too, I would definitely recommend Fabiolus cafe. Also, Pasta shmasta. Their Alfredo sauce was barely recognizable to my digestive system and could certainly not have been FDA approved.

Maybe Fabiolus should have gone with its original name: Nasty-Assiolus.

I've been to Fabiolus twice already and had a wonderful meal both times. My friends and I would park in the lot by the Pantages Theater and then walk down the street to this restaurant.

The first time I was there, I wasn't in the mood for anything heavy, so I ordered a salad. I was expecting a little garden salad and was blown away with this huge bowl that was brought to the table. Suffice to say, ti was delicious and I would have finished the whole thing if I'd only had the room.

The second time I was there I ordered one of the specials. I can't remember the name of it now, but it was a pasta dish with vegetables and prosciutto. Yum. This time, we had wine with our meal. At first, we didn't quite know what to order, but the owner came to our table. He asked us some questions and steered us to a red wine (which my friend loved) and a Moscato (which I have loved ever since).

Great place, fantastic food, and wonderful service. I look forward to going to Fabiolus again really soon.

I think the best part of this restaurant is that they have free parking in the back.  I went there recently upon reading the reviews below, and I have to say, I was truely disappointed.  The calamari appetizer we ordered looked anemic and undercooked, the main dish was very blah and the dessert (tiramisu) wasn't good at all.  I dipped my spoon in for the first bite and I found some watery stuff  in between the layers of my tiramisu!!

I have to say that service was good, and prices are reasonable, but there's a lot left to be desired when it comes to the quality of the food.

We were looking for a place near the Pantages before attending a show and found Fabiolus.  Catchy name, eh?  And it's Italian food--I love Italian food.
Here's the skinny on Fabiolus.  We made a reservation--turns out there was no need.  We got there at about 5:00pm on a Tuesday and there were two other parties there.  They left and we, literally, had the place to ourselves as we munched on bruschetta followed my pasta and chicken and veggies.  I had the Pollo con Rosmarino, my wife had Gnocchi and her sister chose Ravioli. It was all great and we all shared and were very satisfied.  Our server was friendly and attentive (it was easy--she had no other guests) and she encouraged us to take as much time as we needed.  We did... and killed a lot of time before the show in a quaint and decorative little place right off Sunset.  Parking's probably tough on a busy night but there's a valet in the back (be careful--it's a skinny alley) and the patio seemed nice, too.  We'll be back!  Only four out of five because it was a little pricey for pasta... but still very good!

I came here with a new friend last night as I haven't been here in over 8 years. Anyhow my friend and I had a very nice dinner and dining experience with a small earthquake at the end!
We were quickly attended to throughout our meal and sometimes a bit too much to make us feel a bit rushed so hense the -1 star.
The food was EXCELLENT.. We started off with the Caprese salad which is not that hard to  mess up anyhow but the salad was very fresh and delicious
I had the linguini and pesto which was just as delicious as the Caprese salad. My friend had the  ravoili and bacon dish (I can't think of the name)
and too was very delicious.

You have to valet as there parking is nil.. just the driveway to the valet is very tight as you almost hit a building pulling in so be careful!.

I will for sure be back!

What ultimately sold me on this place (aside from them delivering to our office) is their avocado generosity. You know when you're at Subway and you order avocado on your 6 inch and they only put like a quarter of a 'cado on it? And you're like, WTF I just paid $1.60 for that? At Fabiolous, I ordered the Chicken Rustico sandwich and asked them to add avocado to it and when it arrived, my box was significantly heavier than my coworker's. I peeked under the bread and it was an avocado orgy! It looked like as if they put an entire avocado in my sandwich! Also, being slightly OCD, I really appreciated the wonderful presentation and how well put together my panini came.

Aside from that, the chicken was tender and juicy, the bread was this thick, porous panini bread and it tasted amazing. Very clean and not greasy as I've often had paninis served to me. Their salad was also tasty with a balsamic dressing that was very good as well. I'm looking forward to trying other things from this place.

As I've never been there in person, I can only comment on how nice their delivery guy was. The food arrived promptly and by a smiling face who took the time to ask me my name and even run down to his car to get me a paper menu for our office menu book.

Went to Fabiolus before a Paley Center (Big Bang Theory) evening at Cinerama Dome at Arclight last night. Visited based on some posts I saw on chowhound and here on Yelp.

The bread and tapenade were very good. The bread is always a good test for a Italian place. I'd say it was ciabatta style bread and the tapenade was really, really good.

We had the Polenta & Funghi as an appetizer. The polenta was good. Firm and tasty and high quality that I'd expect. Proscuitto was very god. The mushrooms and the cheese sauce were bleh. Cheese sauce was very aromatic. Table next to us said it smelled great. I thought it was a little overpowering and there was way too much cheese sauce on the plate. Overall the app was good but far from great.

I don't remember the name of my entree but it was fusilli pasta with ricotta, walnuts, eggplant, radicchio and white wine sauce. It was EXCELLENT. Loved it. Fusilli was perfectly cooked and fusilli was a great choice to hold the ricotta to the pasta. Lots of ricotta in this dish. Also fairly good amount of eggplant. Not as much radicchio and walnuts but thatwas OK with me as they're my least favorite ingredients in the dish. I liked this so much I'd consider going back tonight and ordering the same thing.

Wife had Chicken Parmesan which was very good. High quality chicken breast, light breading, nicely fried to be light not oily and the cheese and sauce were both very good.

I definitely recommend this place. We were worried when we showed up at 5:30 for early dinner before the Paley Fest event because the place was pretty empty but by 6:45 when we left, it was packed and I can understand why. Great food served quickly in a location that is very convenient to the theatres.

I had dinner here before catching a show at the Pantages recently.  I had driven by it 100 times and have enjoyed a good meal or two at the Bowery, but had never been it.

It's a nice restaurant -- good decor and nice warm feeling.  The service was very friendly, if not a little slow -- but hey, I wasn't in a hurry.  The food, though, was very disappointing.

I started with the carpaccio which had ZERO flavor.  I'm a big fan of carpaccio and can usually put up with most anything, but this was like eating cold mush.  It had no flavor ... olive oil and cheese could not help.

I then had the four cheese gnocchi, but again, was disappointed when it didn't taste like anything.  Bland and boring.  It was fine, I ate every bit, but for the price and expectations, I wanted better.  My friend had another gnocchi dish that was also, "alright."

I have never been to Magnolia, but if you're in the area, I'm sure Magnolia and certainly the Bowery are better options.

I'd been meaning to try this place for a long time, it just looked so inviting. When I finally went, it was just that, inviting. The decor is very warm and the noise level feels like you're visiting your Italian family. I especially liked the outdoor seating.
I was a bit disappointed with the food though. My Gnocchi alla Valdostana  which consisted of chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, peas, white wine and parmigiano was pretty bland and the chicken was dry. It definitely sounded good though.

This is a cute place with decent Italian food.  My date and I were doing the old fashion dinner and a movie date night, and decided pasta was in order for the evening.  It was pretty empty, so we got a table right away.  The service was good -- friendly hostess, funny waiter.  The penne pasta had a fantastic vodka sauce.  Prices are decent.  There's parking in the back lot, but you have to know some trick moves to get in and out since it's such a tight little driveway.

[This review will be as small as the dining room and parking lot.]

Pros:

Romantic date spot.
Bread & Pesto dipping sauce.
Delicious, authentic Italian food. (Can't go wrong, here. I recommend the lasagna or ravioli).
Friendly, accommodating staff.

Cons:
Small dining area.
Even smaller parking lot in back, not much parking on street. (Don't come when busy.)

Price is about average for LA.

I used to love you, fabiolus.  My latest experience put you down for good though.  I tried to order delivery for my team today (spending over $100), and the lady responded to my receptionist with some comment like "oh we don't deliver steak to THAT address."  Apparently there was a previous incident where a steak was returned by one of our employees a long time ago, and perhaps they still hold a grudge.  I called again under a different name and number after my meal, and they were willing to deliver me a steak.

Anyway, the two steaks that were ordered medium came out completely rare.  Another chicken parmigiana was overcooked and totally dry.  Something was wrong with all six of the dishes we ordered and none of our stomachs feel very good right now.

If you must eat Fabiolus, i would suggest dining in.  Makes it easier to send food back if you're not happy.

Boasting the title of "The Official Restaurant of Wicked," Fabiolus seemed like the perfect place for my mom, my three aunts, and me to dine before seeing a performance of said musical. We had dinner reservations at 5:30 (to ensure plenty of time to get to the theater and find our seats), and we were seated right away on the back patio, which was lovely but provided absolutely no shade (no umbrellas, awnings--nothing!) so we were bathed in too-bright, too-hot sun. (I actually had to put sunscreen on my nose as I felt like it was becoming a beacon of red light!) If I hadn't brought my sunglasses my eyes probably would have exploded.

The server promptly brought four glasses of wine, but the fifth person had to wait an eternity for her diet soda. I also had to ask for bread because we went about 20 minutes without any (and I saw it on every other table). But the bread was worth the wait as it came with a delicious pesto sauce (it tastes more like crushed olives, herbs, and olive oil than pesto, but it's still good). We ordered bruschetta for an appetizer, but it was really nothing to write home about. (The mozarella on top looked and tasted like flabby tofu.)

When the meals came, I found my fettucini with chicken, tomatoes, olive oil, and fresh vegetables to be drier than the Mohave. I asked for some marinara sauce to help it out, but the sauce wasn't brought to me until I was almost done eating so I decided to try putting the pesto dipping sauce on it instead. That concoction ended up being pretty tasty, but I don't think one should have to scrounge up a sauce from the table to make their meal palatable. Everyone else at the table seemed happy enough with their meals, though, so maybe I just made a bad choice.

All in all, this place has a nice atmosphere but could use some sun-blockers on the back patio and a fettucini dish that doesn't make you think of eating sand.

The location:  Plenty of parking in back.  Wonderful outdoor seating -- quiet, covered, sheltered from the elements.  I went on a Thursday evening at 8:00pm -- some empty tables, mostly couples on dates.  Everyone mostly kept their voices down -- a welcome change in LA.

Appetizers: when you arrive, they bring you fantastic bread with pesto sauce.  The prosciutto is also excellent.

Dinners: Excellent spinach ravioli.  Great pasta.  Decent lasagna.

Desserts: After dinner, skip the desserts -- they're terrible.  The coffee and cappuccino are decent.

Verdict: A comfortable, quiet restaurant... fitting for a date or a calm dinner with family / friends.

Came here with a friend of mine after a we got screwed over by the Los Angeles traffic while trying to watch a movie out in Hollywood.  I've always driven past this restuarant on my way to school and it always caught my eyes as drove past it.

The place looks like somewhere you would take a date out the first couple of times. The food is primarily Italian though... so don't get the spagetti unless you want marinara sauce drizzling all over yo mouth like killer rabbits.  Well... even though it looks like a date place.... I didn't attempt to re-enact Lady and the Tramp with my friend. (although I was VERY tempted)  I got something called a risotto?

I don't remember the names of dishes too well, but it was primarily a rice dish with sausage and other meats on top.  It was pretty tasty and I would have loved to have seconds of it... if only the prices weren't so much on the $$ side.

Maybe when I meet the love of my life.. I'll bring them here... and smother mariana all over myself and create a spicy meatball of a time.

Another place that is very good with a group or a more intimate setting. Everything I have ordered here has been good. Once in a while I order something outstanding, like the homemade pasta with the duck ragu something or other... that is one of their occasional specials. The pasta bolognese is really yummy. Good wine list. I have only been here for dinner, not lunch. Great place for dinner before the Arclight.

Great Little Find, A hidden gem. I found it when I was living in Orange County. It's close to Sunset and Ivar, we found street parking luckily. (I hate the valet tax!)

There was abundant seating, we were able to sit outside, which is great when LA feels like giving us good weather.  The wait staff were very very friendly, very prompt, and checked in on us often. That's all I ask. I don't need a song and dance, get me food when I need it, get me check when I need it. And keep my drinks full. I'll tip ya well!

I was in a party of three and we all had pasta dishes, all around $10-15 a plate, food was great, and quick.

I'd definitely recommend it, it's a find. There is some constuctrion next door now, but the restaraunt is still worth finding.

I apologize I didn't check the decor of the inside, but I don't usually care about decor, as long as it doesn't have a splattered plate from a disgruntled toddler on the wall. I am good!

So - I've been to this spot twice now (really should have only gone once) - and both times had a pretty lame experience (I'm sorry! I wanted it to be good SO bad!). This is one of those places, like many in Hollywood that suffer from, "I'm in Hollywood, so I don't have to make good food because people who don't know any better will stumble into my restaurant regardless!"

After both experiences the man and I both agreed that their fresh bread and mystery-pesto-like dipping sauce is their saving grace. The first time I had a proscuitto and buffalo mozzarella sandwich - and it sounded good in theory - but it was dry as a bone (no sauciness!) and the proscuitto tasted...well, sour. But I ordered it so I wanted to make good on it - so I removed nasty proscuitto and slathered the bread with mystery sauce! Shazam - saved the sandwich (if only I didn't have that lingering memory of the slightly-turned prosuitto...).

Second time I had: chicken Parmesan. Why did I go back you ask? And why did you order the chicken parm? Well, I figured that it is damn hard to do a chicken parm badly - it is really just fried chicken and cheese! I was SO wrong! I got a HUGE flank of chicken, flopped in soggy breading, barely heated and doused in tomato sauce (I say tomato sauce instead of marinara because that is what it tasted like - like it was straight out of a stewed tomato can). It was wet and cold and the "mozzarella" on top was barely melted. Yuck. Double ick yuck.

Yeah. So I asked for more bread and mystery sauce to fill the void.

Additionally, we have decided that the staff has never tasted the food because they give crazy vague recommendations and when my man asked the waiter, "Do you guys make this pesto in the kitchen?" He just nodded, and said, "Why? Does it taste good?"

Yum! i love REAL Italian food served in an old school atmosphere. Fabiolus delivered. i finally tried this place when a friend recommended we meet there for lunch the other day. i had always wondered about it.

Inside is a lot bigger than it seems from the street. You have an option to sit indoors or out, one area which is covered with heat lamps, and otherwise out on the back patio. our server was fast and friendly and the food was delicious! i had a salad with arugula, endive, radicchio and parmesan. my friend had the mozzarella panini. we are both vegetarians and had no problem finding several options to decide between. many which are not your 'typical' Italian dishes which was exciting.

prices are reasonable. great place for lunch if you're working at a nearby studio, or before/after heading to the ArcLight.

We went here before a show at the Palladium a few weeks ago.  I wasn't expecting much since we just needed to eat anything.  What I got was the best meal I've had in probably months.  I could not believe how excellent the food was.

The only down side is, since this place is so good there are tons of people here so your service might be a little slower than normal.  I'm fine with that when the food is this good.

I don't really know what else I can say other than, I am definitely going to be eating here again!

I've been here twice and that was one time too many. Sorry folks, I read the earlier reviews and can't disagree more! And anyone giving 5-stars to this spot is....i=n=s=a=n=e!

Is the food really that good? Is the decor really cosy? May be I missed something by ordering off of the specials menu (I would've thought this was a safe bet) or by not sitting in the patio area...

Anyway, our server was ok, but when I said that the pappardelle was stuck together and couldn't be eaten I meant it. When I said I didn't want a replacement dish (why have more of the same too thick ribbon noodle stuck together) I didn't mean "please charge me the full price for a sub-standard dish"!

Even after mentioning to the manager the same he simply said, "ah, wholewheat noodles are a bit thicker and are harder to cook". So what can I say. This place obviously hasn't got the cooking thing down if it's going to serve and charge for extra thick pasta with a sausage sauce that was salty enough for a cardiac arrest.

There were some highlights: the bread and pesto dip and the coffee! For real.

Ah, I used to be able to come here for lunch all the time- what a life I had.  They make the best salad anybody ever handed me: Spinach, buffalo mozzarella and corn, with a lemon cream dressing that keeps your teeth from going chalky from the spinach.  I swear, it's perfect.  Flavor balance, tactile pleasure, and the dressing is just tacky enough to keep the corn attached to the rest.

There was a rumor that the place was owned by Fabio.  It's owned by [itacics] a Fabio, just not the improbable, heroic, model Fabio.  And That's Okay.  The owner is really friendly, like a classic proprietor.

Someone here must have used the word "oasis"- that's like a review word- so do a FIND seach for that if you wanna hear about their patio and location.  It's like some sort of oasis or something.

The homemade ciabatta bread is out of this world.  Great little place.  Very quaint and romantic.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because we were there on a 90+ degree day and they don't have air conditioning.  It was stifling inside.

Very good food and attentive, courteous service.

*clears throat*  I'm not sick.
*sniff sniff*  My sinuses are clear and my tastebuds are
*sticks tongue out* awake.

So why the fuck is the food here SO bland?  I tasted NOTHING.

Came here last night after a desperate search for food before the partying, with the help of yelp, read great things about this place, even took up a recommendaton of the Fettucine alla Lombarda (pasta, diced up chicken breast, tomato) in a WATERY sauce.  It wasn't full-on alfredo, nor was it marinara sauce.  But I know that I could've bought a $2.99 bottle of ragu and made this shit taste better than their $12-$13 of run down pasta.

My friend ordered their seafood (shrimp, scallop, clams, and mussels) spaghetti.  Guess what?  This dish was just as run down as mines.  Do they not believe in FLAVOR?!  What happen to the art of spices?!  It was so bad that we both suggested mixing his pasta with the olive oil and minced olives sauce that was for the bread.  Guess what?  It boosted the dish one level.  He resorted to putting salt and pepper on his meal to make it decent.  Even the cheese didn't help!

We had the fried calamari for appetizer and wasn't impressed either.  Lightly battered with a home-made watered down red sauce on the side that differed from MOST sauces that accompanies (?) calamari.

I know, was it that bad that I had to give it 1 star when Dennys is worth as much?

Well, Denny's is worth minus 1 but there no such option on yelp so we'd have to stick to one star for all the crappy places, no matter how crappy it is compared to one another.

Only good thing about it was my friend's red wine.  It wasn't strong on the nose and went down my throat smoothly ... and I don't like red wine.

In conclusion, if you like bland, watered down food ... come here!!!  This place is definitely not my forte.  I should've listened to Mike L. about going to Cat and Fiddle Pub to order Stephy's recommendation of the Louisiana Crab fingers.  DAMNIT!!

***UPDATE 11/2/06***
I forgot the mention that my friend and I had SAND in our mouths because it was all over the seafood pasta.  WTF?  No one likes to chomp into a big clump of fucken sand that should've been washed off.  C'mon, if you like to wash down pasta to the very end of no flavor, as least wash down the fucken seafood too.

Sad face. I wanted to like this place more. Came here with a good group of girl friends last time I was in L.A. It's really cute--I like the ambiance a lot--and there's a good wine selection. We ordered some bruschetta to start and that gave me high expectations: it was nothing short of spectacular. All three stars are for that alone. Sooo good.

The rest of the dishes, however, were mediocre. The Risotto Con Salsiccia E Pomodoro and Penne Alla Vodka were the only ones cooked to proper done-ness, but the penne was over salted. The Gnocchi Con Pomodori Al Forno was cooked improperly--not baked in the oven with cheese on top as it is supposed to, and the Linguine Ai Gamberi was overcooked pasta with meh shrimp. The tagliatelle was underseasoned and was supposed to be homemade pasta but didn't seem like it was.

Best thing about this place - they aren't fixed to the menu. They will add whatever you wish.

I went in recently and told the manager I missed this amazing panino I used to get in Florence, parma prosciutto, fontina, and porcini, and he made it for me. Took me right back.

We stopped in with friends after an evening at PaleyFest at the Arclight. Although we enjoyed ourselves, I debated whether or not to recommend Fabiolus. The restaurant is charming and the service was exceptional. The food, however, was "meh".  Not bad ... just not as good as I'd have expected for the vibe that the place was giving off so effortlessly.

The interior (and patio) is dark, homey, and cozy ... well-suited for lingering conversation. The location is great ... within walking distance of the Arclight.

The menu is extensive, if uninspired, but you will surely find something you can enjoy.

This is one of my favorite italian places in LA. It's a brisk walk from my office and summer time dining on the covered patio is superb.

The waiters/waitresses and managers are extremely nice and sometimes cute too.

My usual is the Fettucine Lombardo, it used to be the spaghetti lombardo but I guess it changed. It comes with seasonal veggies and chicken breast. Delish.

I've also had a chicken salad for lunch once, it was also very tasty. They have a good selection of alcoholic beverages as well. The parking in the back is a little tight...mmmkay its really tight, but it works. Just dont take the Hummer, you can take the SLK instead.

This place is delicious- every single time.  I would recommend the Greek salad or the rigatoni with capers and mushrooms.  The prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere is fun.  Servers are generally great.  We had one bad experience, but I won't harp on that this time.  Great wine selection.  Open patio in the back.  Last night one of our friends' food came with meat even though he said no chicken and the manager had the chef fix another in less than 4 minutes.  Not to mention he took care of the table with extra attention for the trouble.  That is very much appreciated and RARE!  Highly recommend.

Great place to stop in for a bite before having your mind BLOWN by There Will Be Blood. Which you should all go see immediately. But I digress.

Fabiolus is a very cozy place, although I could have used the heater near me turned on since they seated us on the patio (I am ashamed to admit that my blood has thinned in my years since leaving the mid-west). The service was very friendly, but not necessarily helpful. I asked our server simply to tell me if he liked the ravioli con spinacci and ricotta or the home made lasagna better. He said "they're both good". Now, as a former server, I know that when a customer asks a question like that it's because they have narrowed it down and now want you to make the call. He did not.

He also cleared my man's wine glass before he was through drinking it. So he loses a little more credit there.

Overall, the place is fine. There's not a lot else within a 1-block radius of the Arclight that is priced as reasonably (read: not cheap, but normal for pasta in LA.) Next time I'm headed to the movies though, I'll probably just spring for the burger at Hungry Cat.
