My sister and I came here after she picked me up from the airport. It was past nine, so the food was 50% off. We decided to share the pork shoulder flatbread appetizer. Afterward, we each got an appetizer and shared the truffle fries in lieu of ordering entrees.
My sister had the heirloom tomato salad and I got the scallops. The tomato salad had house-made mozarella and was dressed with balsamic vinegar. It was good but pretty standard. The scallops were perfectly seared on the outside and tender. The sauce was very fragrant, and I think it was also served with a cauliflower puree. Very nice. The truffle fries were some of the best I've had because they were so crispy.
As for drinks - I had the Crestmoor and my sister had... I forget what it's called, but it was essentially vodka and lime juice. Both were pretty good. Mine was a touch too sweet. We got dessert cocktails, too. I had the... Grand Chocolate? I think that's the name. It was three chocolate liquers combined. It was tasty, but definitely a sipper.
Service was a bit strange - the server brought over a small plate for our shared flat bread. i was looking at the wine list, so I pointed to an empty spot on the table for him to set the plate. He did not want to set it there, though, so he physically removed the wine list from my hands, moved the plate that was originally on the table, and placed the new plate in front of me then set the wine list back on top of it. Really strange. Also, my sister initially ordered the Electric Frog, and he told her he didn't like it so she should order something else. She explained that she was a fan of Chartruese, so she thought she might like it, but he shook his head and suggested she order soemthing else. If the restaurant was out of an ingredient of the cocktail, he should have just said that. And if he really disliked it, he should not have been so insistent after she stated she liked all the listed ingredients of the drink.
However, the truffle fries and scallop appetizer were so good that I'll still give the restaurant 4 stars. The 1/2 price after 9 is also a big draw.
Great food service and live jazz.
This is where I would take my best dates. It is a little formal, but worth the attire. Sometimes, I like to feel like I'm eating at a high class joint in Atlanta or Chicago. F. Scotts fits the bill. i have read the few bad reviews and can only say that there are some customers who cannot be satisfied. I suspect it is the very tiny minority. If you feel dressy and have a high class date to impress, then go here. Make sure your wallet is thick.
Nice romantic restaurant. The food was delicious but pricey for the portion size. My date and I left hungry. After dinner, we went to the bar and enjoyed some good live jazz in a nice cozy atmosphere.
I had heard amazing things about F Scotts. I experienced none of them.
The food was mediocre at best. Everyone at my table was disappointed in the food.
The wine list and service were great, but the food put such a damper on the meal that it was hard to enjoy the experience.
What a night....
We showed up at 10 pm on a Saturday night to grab a glass of wine and some dessert. We luckily got a small table in the uber-intimate jazz bar and were warmly welcomed by our waitress. She offered suggestions for white wines and brought out her favorite for us to taste. When we didn't ooh and ahh, she went in the back and tasted it herself. She quickly returned to tell us it was about to go bad and brought out another bottle. Classy.
I ordered the truffled deviled eggs as an appetizer. Couldn't resist. Seriously, you could put truffles on shit and I would probably like it. This is where the night got interesting. My date knows one of the owners, Wendy; and they invited us to their table. Alright, Rahel, get it together and try to be cool...
We sat in the private room; I believe will be named Zelda soon. I devoured my deviled eggs that were NOT the way mom used to make - in a good way. We then got a tasting of their desserts. Coconut cake - moist and creamy. Rice pudding - for those with not such a sweet tooth. But my favorite was the Elvis chocolate dessert; peanut butter crisps with chocolate sauce and banana ice cream. Made me want to curl my lip and say thank-ya-vury-much....
But the highlight of the night was the conversation. Picking the brains of a restaurant owner and chef is a foodie's dream. F. Scott's has the essence of what a restaurant is all about...food & friends with a passion. Although I am sure this is the first and only time I will have such an experience, I highly recommend F. Scott's for your next culinary journey in Nashville.
Get there early so you can sit in the bar and experience the music. Jazz at it finest.
if you arrive later, you can sit in the restaurant for a quiet meal, but seeing it all happen is way more fun.
best pairing of wine and meal in the Nashville area. highly recommended.
Great place. Totally classy, too. This was my second time here and it was just as good as I remembered. I started with the "Crispy Polenta, Bonnie Blue Farm Chevre, Fig Jam, Roasted Tomatoes" app, then the "Baby Arugula, Fresh Herbs, Blue Cheese Vinaigrette, Granny Smith Apples salad." Both were outstanding. The jam and chevre on the polenta was wonderfully creamy, and a great contrast to the polenta.
For the main course I had the "Duck Breast, Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Braised Swiss Chard, Rhubarb Chutney, Pepper Jelly, Caramelized Onion Biscuit." I am a sucker for duck at a fancy dinner. The rhubarb chutney went really well with the sweet potatoes and the duck. The Chard was a bit out of place on the dish, but the wonderful biscuit made up for it.
I chose the Coconut Cake for dessert and it was amazing.
For drinks I started with something called a Leap Year, which was vodka, chambord, and something I can't remember. It was good, but a bit too sweet. With dessert I had a Glenfiddich 18 yr. Very enjoyable.
I'm sure I will go back some time.
What a fun and classy place to dine and enjoy good wine!!! The whole experience was just awesome. I've heard good things about F Scott's prior to my dining experience and I must say, it lived up to the expectations.
I was dumb to not make a reservation, but that was a blessing in disguise per we were able to hang out at the bar drinking some delicious spanish wine that i've never had while enjoying live jazz. That could have been the end of the night and i would have been satisfied. =] But it only got better as the night went on.
I don't really remember what I had per this experience was several months back, but all I can remember is that I had a great time. All the appetizers and main dishes were great. I'm sorry that I can't name anything on the menu, but the meal consisted of 3 bottles of wine for the three of us. =P There are several things that I would like to note from my experience.
1) Great Ambiance
2) Great Live Jazz
3) Great Food
4) Great Service
5) Great Wine List
6) Great Dessert
I definitely LOVED the experience and I would recommend this place as the best restaurant experience in Nashville. That might be a bold statement, but the whole experience was fantastic. I just wish there were more gems like this in Nashville; It would be even better if it didn't hurt my pocketbook so much. =] However, it is a great spot to splurge once in a while.
I had heard that after 9 pm the restaurant serves all food 50% off, which to my girl friend and I meant we could actually afford to try it. I had the duck, and she had the prawns. Neither of us thought our food was that great. I still felt like I paid too much even after receiving 50% off the original price. However, I must say the waiter, and service was top notch. I was very impressed with that aspect. The music was one of the reasons why I came, and I was extremely disappointed in that aspect as it seems that only certain nights have the whole jazz band playing. I might go back for appetizers, and a drink to listen to the whole jazz band, but never before 9 pm.
F. Scott's is one of the only games in town if you're looking to go see some Jazz. Nashville us somehow almost completely deprived of good Jazz, and F Scott's is working hard to fix that with a classy, upscale Bar and Restaurant vibe similar to 1930's post-depression New York City vibe.
Unfortunately for those of us who are usually broke, the prices are a bit higher than they were fresh off the Depression, but that's not to say the food isn't more than deserving. The menu is filled with rich, hearty, creamy dishes, from the entree to desert. Duck and Chicken is marinated in a rich sauce, large hunks of gourmet cake topped with huge amounts of creamy homemade icing, but lots of great green options to even things out in the appetizer stage.
Great place to take a date.
This review just relates to the jazz bar, not the dinning area. Nashville's greatest jazz pianist, Beegie Adair, plays here every Thursday night for no cover charge. Sometimes, she'll have a guest sit in on hron or guitar, but it's typically Beegie in a trio setting. Her group plays everything from old standards to Thelonious Monk. The bar is small and fills up fast - the best way to grab a seat is to either come early (around 530pm) or later (around 9pm) in the evening. Also, the attire in the bar is a little more casual than in the dinning area.
I was pretty disappointed by my experience here. I got all dressed up, brought my Mom out for a night of dining and music. The menu has great options, but my fish was totally overcooked and just didn't have much in the way of flavor. I'd skip it, unless someone else is paying so you don't mind so much when your hopes are dashed.
I love this restaurant. It's so fancy! Have been there a few times. The dcor and atmosphere are fantastic. The foods are awesome and have a large selection of wines. I love their Duck Breast stuffed with Kumquat and Marcona Almonds wrapped in Serrano Ham with Rosasted Carrot Polenta, Spinach, Fresh Cranberry Emulsion. The staffs are very professional and knowledgeable. This is a great place for a date! It's so romantic! Calling for all Jazz lovers, you must go there. It has live Jazz entertainment. Be prepared to spend $$$, but it's well worth the experience. I believe this is one of the few best restaurants in Nashville.
My husband took me here for my birthday this past weekend. We adore F. Scott's and look forward to always going...they always have amazing jazz music which provides such a wonderful atmosphere. The martinis are great (well the sakeatini my brother-in-law got wasn't great he said...tasted like a watered down drink). I had the French Raspberry martini and it was amazing! We got there an hour early to sit in the lounge to take in the live band, but it was full, so they opened up their "overflow" room which was actually really nice that way our party was able to sit and chat and enjoy our martinis. We had a wonderful server who really knew her stuff! They had the table decorated with confetti for my birthday. I had a salad with the lemon vinaigrette and it is by far my favorite...others at my table had the Caesar salad and said it was exceptional. Most of us had the New York strip and it was bursting with flavor. It was on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes that were wonderful! We also had their delicious vanilla bean creme brulee'. It was such a fantastic dinning experience! We can not wait to go back!

This is the ultimate place to eat in Nashville! I love the old charm this restaurant gives! The food… Read more »
This place combines three of some of my favorite things: 1) Jazz and 2) A kick A$$ wine list and 3) Good Eats. I even think that Rachel Ray featured this restaurant in her $40/day, Nashville, TN edition. The menu is seasonal, just as a good restaurant's menu should be, and features the most creative flavors with the most classic. I would classify the cuisine as Modern American. There is a bit of Italian, a bit of French and a bit of Southern thrown into the mix. One of the most memorable dishes that I had was actually a delectable beef tenderloin paired with a California Cabernet. For dessert I partook of a modern spin-off of a creme brulee...absolutely worthy of an award of some sort. Just as a warning, get there early for dinner because you want to be well through your meal before the jazz starts (promptly at 7PM). Also, don't expect to hear jazz past 10PM, this ain't no late night establishment :).
Live jazz from the small bar area faintly winds its way through the larger restaurant as you dine on amazing creations. The desserts are to die for, but they usually run out of their specials before the middle of the dinner crowd.
