One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
I ditched the uber-convenient location of my former optometrist for the (slightly less convenient, but still nearby) office of Dr. Lai and found his office to be superior and more than worth hopping on the freeway. Redwood Shores people should seriously think about venturing a few exits down... It's worth it.
I was able to consult over e-mail (check out their site) and the phone before booking an appointment - and even rescheduled at the last minute, when a meeting got bumped, with no hassle whatsoever. The office staff are extremely helpful and informative and the hours are pretty good. If you've never been here, don't be scared of the parking situation (street only) - I went during a pretty busy time during the week and spots were available right out front. The front desk staff was even kind enough to make change for the meter. Since I arrived a few minutes early, one of the girls up front offered to walk me through the frame selection and set aside some choices before my exam.... I found that to be quite thoughtful and efficient..
First, I must point out that their frame selection is GREAT and very much up to date (they get new frames 2x a month). Much, much, much better than I've seen elsewhere in the area. After trying on Fendi, Gucci and a couple dozen other higher-end frames I ended up going with a Juicy Couture pair that suited my face and looked cutest of all the options. So regardless of your price range, there are tons of stylish options... They do take VSP and with my employer's version of it, my total contribution for the glasses was only about $70 including lenses and transitions coating. I got the fancier version of the eye exam (instead of dilating old-school) so that was another $30 + $10 co-pay for the exam. Not bad at all. Of course this varies according to your employer, so you should glance at the insurance print-out before reaching for those Fendi frames.
Dr. Lai himself is very personable, helpful and this is the only eye exam I've ever had that was actually fun and engaging. He was conversational and explained my prescription and eye issues to me much better than any previous optometrists have. I now know my eye prescription is rare. Ooh, la la... He was happy to answer my endless questions and is just super nice.
Anyhow, the entire appointment was smooth, informative, friendly and affordable. Whoever said they're expensive must have crappy insurance (or none at all), because I found them to be quite the opposite. Anyone who's shopped around private optometrists that take VSP will agree...
I just went back for another eye exam. Dr. Lau is really nice and friendly.
I ordered a pair of reading glasses, the guy who helped me was super nice and friendly. He was definitely trying to make things as painless as possible. He also made me aware of my benefits, which means I will be going to get another pair of glasses in January rather than waiting until next fall.
I wasn't happy about they way they pre-book appointments or require a call back to confirm appointments but when I expressed my displeasure they said they would send me a reminder without booking something for me and they wouldn't require call backs to confirm appointments. They really went out of their way to make life easier for me.
I was annoyed when I walked in for my appointment, but the staff turned it around for me.

I went to Eyeworks of San Mateo for my first eye appointment. I've been experiencing eye strain lately while on the computer, so I thought I would make an appointment to see if I needed glasses. Eyeworks of San Mateo could see me almost right away. I think I called on a Monday and had an appointment on Tuesday. I met with Dr. Lai, who was insanely warm and kind. He prescribed me some lenses, and one of the retail assistants walked me through the different type of frame options I had. The retail assistant was also very nice. I chose a pair of glasses, paid my dues (they gave me a discount because I don't have eye insurance), and had a pair of glasses five or so business days later.
I wore my glasses for three to four weeks, and found that they didn't make as profound of an improvement as I had hoped they would. I scheduled a follow-up appointment, was seen by Dr. Lai again for free, and will get a new pair of lenses (same frames) in another five business days or so, all for free.
Eyeworks of San Mateo has a very friendly, awesome staff, they're genuinely concerned for their customers and patients, and I have no intentions to ever shop for glasses anywhere else.
Lots of 4 and 5 star reviews, but unless you have lots and lots of time to spare, you're better off going somewhere else. I've never walked out of a place before -- not a restaurant, not a doctor's office, nothing -- but if I hadn't walked out today, heck, I think I'd probably still be sitting there waiting.
Eye exam scheduled today at 3:15pm. Waited patiently until 4:00pm. ("Doctors are busy, no sweat, I'll just chill and mess around on my phone for awhile.") At 4:00pm, a man enters off the street, heads straight to the reception desk, and starts to go off on the polite receptionist:
"I need to see Dr. Lai immediately! I have a headache. Don't you have any glasses I can wear? Don't you understand English?" Verbatim quote. The guy was a serious piece of work. I think this guy actually expected them to produce a brand new set of glasses out of thin air.
It was bizarre and I can't believe people expect that they can act like that and it'll actually work. Except at this office, it does.
At that moment, Dr. Lai appears. Rather than spending a few seconds to calm the guy down and then take my appointment, Dr. Lai instead decides to take this individual back to the exam room. Woah, wait, what?
That's the moment this office lost me. The individual with the appointment was made to wait even longer while the guy that comes in the front door and insults the staff gets seen right away. Well alright then.
I would have loved to have been a patient here, but never had the chance. Maybe they are getting too busy for their own good. I don't know. I let a staffer know that I was heading out and I made an appointment elsewhere. You should, too.
A little surprised by the negative reviews, this place is one of the few legit medical industry related businesses that treated me like a human being.
The Good:
- The Optometrist is super nice and he is great at doing eye exams.
- Location is perfect and they have a great selection of frames!
Less Then Good:
- Once it took a while to get my glasses back.
We are still going here.

Look, it's real simple, Dr. Lai can put anyone at ease when it comes to talking about vision. My… Read more »
Okay, so I did something SUPER moronic yesterday. I used an eye product without first reading the label- and therefore pretty much chemically burned my eyes with a peroxide-based contact lens cleansing solution. I sincerely hope that this does not happen to another human being- ever.
So the mini-chemistry lesson of the day, kids, will be a case study of the cleansing solution brand Clean Care, which takes a minimum of six hours to convert H2O2 (peroxide) to H2O (via the evaporation of oxygen bubbles). I made the mistake of using this product as I would have any other sterile saline solution and immediately put my re-wetted contact into my eye. Oh the pain, lemme tell you. It took nearly 3 hours for the stinging to completely subside. Super duper BOO. But such is the price you pay for stupidity, I guess. Please heed my warning and READ THE LABEL OF ANY NEW PRODUCT you may be unfamiliar with!!
I went in to Eyeworks to see Dr. Gary Lai about my little mishap. He graciously sat me down into the examination room and reassured me that this was by no means the first time he'd seen this happen with said product, and by no means would it be the last. I felt slightly less spastic.
He thoroughly checked (with the blue light prism thingy) the surface of my eye and concluded that surprisingly I had not annihilated any cells. He then wrote me a prescription for some pretty pricey anti-inflammatory eye drops (Lotemax) and sent me on my way, no charge.
Dr. Gary is really a top-notch doctor, and has been consistently very sincere in his practice. I agree with fellow yelper John L. in his description of Dr. Gary as "the best, both in a professional and personal manner". I felt taken care of as his client, no matter what small incidents might happen between annual exams. I appreciated the excellent bedside manner and thorough examination, which reassured me that everything would soon be fine.

I've been wearing glasses for a over a decade now so I've seen many optometrists over the years. IMO, out of all of them, Dr. Gary Lai is the best, both in a professional and personal manner.
Besides being very knowledgeable he is a nice guy and has excellent "bedside manner". He always asks how I'm doing with work, family, etc during the course of the exam. I always feel like I am just hanging out instead of getting my eyes checked. He always takes the time to answer all my questions and describe all my options.
He is also an extremely hard worker. There have been a few times where I had to call early in the morning to reschedule and he always picks up the phone. That is also true when I call late after business hours to confirm pickup or appointment for the next day, he picks up as well!!!
The staff is also great. They call my insurance, VSP, and see what is covered. They also suggest frames and bring out the manufacturer's catalog if I do not find anything I like. Then I select a frame from the catalog and they call me when it arrives.
I went here for my first eye exam ever. I figured I should be checked since I'm turning 30 and have never had my vision or eye health checked before. I have insurance through work, so why not? Also - it's awesome, you can make appointments by email. So convenient!
Dr Lai was great - seeing him was like having a casual conversation punctuated by quick exams. He was friendly, seemed genuinely curious to learn about me, and helped me through the check because I didn't know anything about having my eyes checked! If medical exams make you nervous, he will put you right at ease.
Turns out my eyes are fine and I don't need any corrective measures. Sweet!
I'm upgrading to five stars.
For the last month my right eye has been somewhat bloodshot, and for me, that is a big deal as the whites of my eyes are typically sparkling white. Doesn't that indicate health?? So I wake up Saturday morning looking as though I'd been out all night with Michael H. and JZ (but I don't drink so that couldn't have been the case!) and something had to be done.
I called just after 8:30am and to my shock Dr. Lai answered the phone, and despite being booked that day, got me in for a quick appointment. Thank you! I was able to meet his colleague, Dr. Ho, and she is so incredibly nice! Just another reason to love this place.
This world has lost some of its old fashioned customer service mentality, so I really do back flips when I see it happening in front of me.
My eyes are fine; just allergies.

I almost hate to continue the trend of 5-star reviews, but after having 2 years of Costco visits (I don't care what you say, they aren't as good as independent optometrists) I was SO HAPPY to be at Dr. Lai's office.
1) I scheduled my appointment for noon, but found out at 8am that morning that I had a mandatory meeting at noon for work -- I panicked, called the office asking about their cancellation policies, got Dr. Lai himself who told me, "Don't worry about it" and scheduled me for 4:30pm instead. Wow!
2) Office workers were great for me -- friendly, understanding, and helpful. No problems.
3) I had some issues with the eye tests but Dr. Lai kept me 30 minutes past my appointment time to make sure I had the best prescription possible for the best price with my insurance. They let me try on three different types of contacts to make sure everything worked out perfectly. Dr. Lai personally worked out the figures to make sure I saved the most money on my insurance.
I love this place! 5 enthusiastic stars, all the way.
I came here couple of times for my eye exam. Compared to many places I went to in the past (ie. Lenscrafters in the mall somewhere) The service here is top notch.
Dr Lai was great. He seemed genuinely interested in taking his time to understand and help you with the kind of eye problem you have. If you have astigmatism and have been having bad luck finding somebody who can dial in the the correct prescription, give this guy a shot. His eye exam in particular for astigmatism was very thorough.
I bought a pair of eye glasses from Eye Works a few years back and it fit great. I would highly recommend this place.
Sure Dr . Lai is nice but
the receptionist or his assistant is a b****!!!!!! She gave me this attitude when I was looking for cheap glasses (like less than 200.00)- I only needed them for reading! Jeez.
So I leave and I forgot about even picking up glasses or that I had even gone for an eye exam. That same person with the stuck up attitude calls me 3 MONTHS LATER to let me know they have my glasses..... OK???? WTF!!! Dr. Lai needs another person working the front... someone who knows how to treat his patients!
I "work from home" on Fridays and decided to get my eyes checked out on one such Friday. (I know. Who decides to go to a doctor on a day off? Apparently, me.) I called and one of the receptions conveniently fit me in on the same day.
Dr. Lai is very informative and super friendly. I had never had my eyes dilated before and although he recommended I do so, he did not pressure me. He even gave me two options (at two different price points) plus the pros and cons for both.
My only gripe with Eyeworks is that I waited over a month to get my glasses. But, I guess, it really wasn't their fault. The frames I originally picked out needed to be ordered, in turn, adding onto the wait time, which I think is only about a week to two weeks. It turned out that the frames were on back order and I'd wait til mid-March (my appointment was on Jan 16th) to get them back. After about 2 weeks or so of waiting, I took it upon myself to go in and just pick out a new pair. (I wish they had asked me if I wanted to do this, but I had to go in and inquire on my own.)
Anyways, I finally have my glasses. They fit well, they feel good, and my eyes are healthy. I guess that's all that matters.
Dr. Lai was great. He explained everything I asked about (which was a lot considering how long it's been since my last eye exam), went over my prescription options carefully, and was very nice and personable as well.
I don't know if there's been staff turnover or what, but the two assistants up front were both great. They helped me pick out a nice pair of frames and carefully checked my insurance to make sure I was using it effectively. And they were very nice and friendly to boot. No "attitude" at all.
They accept VSP, so my sticker shock was pretty minimal.
All in all, this is about as good as it gets when it comes to eyecare and eyewear.
UPDATE: I'm wearing my glasses now. Still can't say I'm thrilled I have to wear them, but I certainly can see better now!
My bay area eye doctor experiences until this year have been one misadventure after another:
- a redwood shores optometrist was going through a house remodel and marital problems and gave me a bad prescription.
- i changed to a milpitas optometrist, but they were cooking books and ripping through loopholes in the insurance system until they were audited.
In my search for a new optometrist, I was nervous that I would have another strange experience. This time, I wanted to find a place in downtown San Mateo, and I must say fellow yelpers really hooked me up with the Eyeworks recommendations.
Dr. Gary Lai rocks. Patient, smart, witty. The new prescription actually made me see better (imagine that), and he even kept the store open a few extra minutes so that I could make an appointment on a Saturday.
I think Dr Lai is a very caring, considerate and knowledgeable professional. He is up to date on new products and breakthroughs. Most importantly he demonstrated a rare quality which is his ability to actively LISTEN to his patients. I was quite pleased with his service.
His support staff's behavior leaves a little to be desired, in terms of their interactions with the patients. When many of us drop a few hundred on glasses and contacts, I think some basic courtesies (greetings, thanks yous, smiles) are in order.
However, since I have a pretty significant vision impairment, the knowledge and capabilities of the doctor are the most important issue for me and Dr Gary Lai is the only optometrist I will see from now on.
Well, I was a bit skeptical since they had soooo many reviews. I mean, really, who takes the time to review the eye doctors? It's someplace you go about once, maybe twice a year, and only because you have get your contact prescription renewed so you don't have to wear your circa 1990 glasses (since you used your insurance money for the contacts you never updated the glasses).
Anyway, everything they say is 100% correct. I brought my daughter in to get her first pair of contacts, I knew in advance it was going to be trying experience that might cause one or both of use to leave the place crying. (luckily it was her). The first day we tried she had a lot of problems following directions and they wouldn't go in. I tried to give moral support but she spent most of her time yelling at me and being a bit surley. I was worried it would never work. they were calm and told me to come back in two days. this time she asked me to sit in the lobby while she took my daughter to the back (thank god! because I don't think I could have handled a second go-round) Well, of couse, that did the trick. It took about 30 minutes but she got them in and now wears them everyday with no problems.
From start to finish they were great!
Went to see Dr Lai at Eye Works based on Yelp recommendations and thought the service was great.
Dr. Lai is a 40-something male, came across as very educated and professional, answered all my questsions, was very accomidating, and personable.
Highly recommended.
Dr. Lai is pretty awesome. He's young, smart, straight forward, and isn't a jerk like some cocky doctors can be :P.
Only con to the whole experience is the prices, pretty steep, but as to be expected in San Mateo at a nice doctors office.
Big pro: bc of the steep prices, doc gave me a print out of my prescription needed for lenses/contacts and that will allow me to shop around without having to make appts. Very helpful...
Spend a month searching for a particular pair of Prada frames that I saw at a Lens Crafters... unfortunately, they don't take VSP so i had to find them somewhere else. Finally found them here! Great sales team, educated and helpful. Received my frames in less than 2 weeks - it was great! Since then, they have streched out a little but I brought them in and they fixed em with a quickness - no hassles, no appointments.
Currently searching for a new pair of frames... I will be stopping in shortly. =)
What can I say that hasn't already been said? Dr. Lai is the nicest guy ever. You can tell he sincerely cares about his patients by the way he gives his time and attention.
For example, I have this problem (fellow Asian chicks might feel me on this) where my eyelashes grow downward and scratch my eyeballs when I blink. Dr. Lai sat with me patiently to collectively think of ways to avoid this from happening. He also spent extra time running tests to make sure the scratches aren't serious.
Plus, all his equipment is state-of-the-art, meaning no machines that blow air into your eye! YAY!
I had an appointment with Doctor Sharon. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. He has a rare quality on American doctors, which is, he is not in a rush when it comes to listening to his patients. Besides, the store has a great variety of frames and a fair price.
Dr. Lai is a personable doctor who is very knowledgable and experienced; plus, he has great sense of humor and lots of patience. It's hard to find a doctor with those characteristics these days. Nowadays, doctors just seem to rush you in and out so they can get paid faster.
From the overall reviews, I'm sure you already decided to check the the place out. But just in case, some of Dr. Lai's patience are executives and professionals (which we assume do their homework most of the time) so you can use that as a point of reference that the place is credible.
Price point is a little high, but Dr. Lai checked out my insurance and make recommendations base on my benefits so I don't get charged an arm and a leg after. I'm very happy with everything. I'm glad I found such a great eye doctor.
Dr. Gary Lai is very professional and friendly. The best eye-side manner around. I am very pleased that I was referred to this office for my eye exam, even more pleased that they take my VSP insurance -- Woo-Hoo!
This office is small and cozy. They have great lighting for when you check yourself out while trying on frames. They have a relatively small selection, but they have nicely edited the styles they carry from various designers.
My favorite part is the awesome adjustable mirrors they have dangling from the ceiling by pneumatic wires. You pull the mirror down to your exact eye level, and it stays there! No more bending over to look at yourself in a table top mirror. These mirrors are GENIUS!
If you spot a pair of awesome glasses in an ad, they will order them for you. However, you have to pay a restocking fee if you reject them...knowing how finicky I am, this would be the likely result. Thus, in preservation of my wallet, I have never ventured to do this.
The one thing that disappointed me slightly, was that I had to pay $40 for a contact fitting (which was separate from my eye exam). My insurance didn't cover it, so it came out of my wee wallet. I thought this was a lot. But, I am used to ghetto Pearle Vision where they include the fitting with your exam.
Overall, I like this place a lot. I would like it even better if they carried more frames that I didn't have to pay to restock.
Not only was Dr. Lai thorough and fun to talk to, but it was very clear that he was extremely knowlegeable. After the check up, the optician (Jim?) helped me pick out a frame. Even though I took forever, he was unbelievably patient and offered great fashion advice.
I have nothing but good things to say about my experience, and trust me, I'll be telling everyone who will listen. You will not be disappointed.
Ok, I know I'm totally jumping on the bandwagon but Dr. Lai and Jim were just awesome to deal with. I went in for a regular eye appt and Dr. Lai was very helpful in answering questions about my vision. He even pointed out something about my prescription I didn't know before.
Jim was uber patient when I perused the glasses selection of which there are a ton. I would be surprised if someone left empty-handed but having a real good vision plan helps too.
Thanks to Yelp for exposing me to Eyeworks!!
Gary is very friendly and knowledgeable Dr. --- detail exam! Two thumbs up!
the other reviews are pretty reliable. Dr lai is pretty laid back mellow nice guy. so i won't go into more detail.
+ i really like that he goes over the insurance plan (VSP) and tries to determine what i would be the best thing to do from there.
+not that many forms to fill out
+tons of candy at the front desk. thank goodness this is the eye dr. my dentist is hating me right now...
+great service, flexible, and took me in as soon as i arrived, no wait!
- not a very great selection of frames. i think i would try looking around for frames and getting them done here instead.
Made an appointment with Dr. Lai after getting frustrated with my last optometrist. Apparently, my eyes are a difficult fit, but he was patient and took the extra time to make sure my new contacts fit perfectly. When it came time to pay, the receptionists were busy with other customers but Dr. Lai played cashier so I wouldn't have to wait. Awesome in my book. Some docs are too cool for that.
Jim is the best. I had a very slight prescription from another doctor that I have to see for a special condition. He filled it and I was having issues and he suggested having my doctor retest that the prescription was correct. I did and he altered my glasses for no charge. After trying that for a while it still wasn't comfortable and we are trying something else, again no charge. Again happy to help and doesn't act like I am being picky or a pest (which I probably am). Thanks!! I highly recommend them for getting glasses.
Did I mention how helpful he was when I was picking my glasses. My first pair you see, and I had no idea what type/color frames would look good on me but he picked the perfect pairs to try.
The doctor is in! Tried Eyeworks based on YELP reviews alone and lives up to all the praise and stars and fireworks and all that - FOR DOCTOR LAI! Real cool guy. About as human and personable a professional can get.
MINUS ONE FOR SMALL SELECTION OF FRAMES!
***Update***
I still love the service that Dr. Lai provided me but there was a mix-up in my eyeglasses -- 1-2 weeks after ordering them I rec'd a call notifying me they were done. I went in to pick them up and that night, after taking off my contacts, found out that the degree of the lenses were only about 150 when I needed 300. The lenses were also very scratched up making me think they were used. I emailed Dr. Lai immediately. He responded quickly and apologized. 3 weeks later I received a new pair of lenses that were correct, but sorry for the bluntness but I expected more of an apology -- some sort of compensation. Waiving of the contact exam fee, something without me having to ask or beg. Also on my follow up visit I was scheduled to have the drops put in to complete the eye exam but that was overlooked -- unfortunately when I brought it up via email it was brushed off.
I would consider going back just b/c Dr. Lai is so nice and informative and I'm sure that any mistakes were not intentional but because I am moving my office from San Mateo to Burlingame and Hayward combined with my most recent experiences with the place, I think I may have to consider going elsewhere.
*****
My eyes had been bothering me for a couple weeks and I wanted to get a check up as soon as possible. I called into Dr. Lai's office and was told that someone had just cancelled and they had an available appointment in 1 hour. To say the least I rushed on over.
Dr. Lai was great. He was honest with what was wrong, he gave me the answers I needed and the truth I needed to hear. He worked with me to figure out how to best use my insurance to optimize its coverage and he took the extra time to make my visit more comfortable, more social, and better all in all. I have FINALLY found a doctor that I will be returning to.
I have yet to find a dentist or a doctor that I will never leave. Anyone have any suggestions? :|
I wont bore you with what everyone else has already said. Dr. Lai & Jim are without a doubt.....top shelf. I almost cant wait until I need another eye exam.
UPDATE: 01/08/2008 - A year later and time for a new exam. Dr. Lai gave me a thorough examination and even took a digital picture of my retinas, how cool! I love the up to date, modern equipment and he always takes the extra time to explain everything. He even contacted one of his frame reps to make sure the frames I wanted would arrive on time.
I've been in glasses since the tender age of four, and believe me, I've seen it all in the world of optometry, both good and bad.
Dr. Lai and Jim are good.
Despite their incredibly busy Saturday schedules, they somehow managed to squeeze me in on a Saturday, the only day I could come. I got there a little early, thinking I'd have reams of paperwork to fill out, but their paperwork is so concise and to the point I was done in like five minutes.
Dr. Lai was about 15 minutes late seeing me, since the genius before me got there late for his appointment, but no big deal since that gave me more time to look at their amazing selection of frames. They had stuff there I'd never even heard of. Hip, cool stuff you'd expect to see in the city, not in the burbs.
The exam itself was incredibly thorough. I've never had a doctor, any doctor, take so much time (especially on what seemed to be a very busy day for them) with me. Dr. Lai was incredibly patient with my weird eye horror stories. He actually LISTENED, and then gave point by point suggestions on how to make my glasses look better, instead of the normal coke-bottles I usually get.
After the exam, the optician, Jim, took over. I found out he also doubles as the receptionist (is it OK to call a guy a receptionist?), and it was him who so nicely got me booked on such short notice. Now, usually when I go to the eye doctor, I like a female optician to help me, because, let's face it, chicks give better fashion advice. But Jim was right on the bullseye with his suggestions. And that's what they were - suggestions. Not once did he try to push anything on me, or make me feel rushed, despite the fact that there were like 15 other shoppers in there.
So, to sum up:
1. Great doctor, just... great. Not much more to say there.
2. Ditto for Jim. Thanks again for working me in on short notice; you're a life-saver!
3. Not just a decent pair of glasses, but an AWESOME pair of glasses.
4. Possibly the most patient doctor and staff of any place I've ever been to, despite the sheer craziness of so many people in there shopping. You need to move to a bigger place, Dr. Lai!
5. Don't go anywhere else. Go see Dr. Lai and Jim at Eyeworks.
1/13/08: Update - apparently Jim no longer works here. Noooo! He gave me the best fashion advice and was probably the friendliest and most helpful retail dude I've ever seen. Why'd ya let him go, Dr. Lai?
Very pleasant experience. Just needed to update my prescription and order me some contacts since my insurance gives some freebies. Very professional and clean facility and equipment. Contacts came in less than a week. Parking is a bit tricky but I've always managed to park within a block from the office.
Recommended!
I have been to good places and I have been to bad places. . .THIS IS A GOOD PLACE. Dr. Lai explains things well, so you don't feel like you are being pushed off to get to the next patient.
They got updated equipment.. Where have I been? All other eye doc's I have been to have had manual equipment, but this office has a cool control panel that switches the lens between "1" and "2".
The office is up front w/charges and doesn't keep on adding all kinds of services without telling you, and they aren't pushy. I went to an office like that before so I can appreciate the up front offices.
Great customer service. . . . It's not lost afterall.
I'm been thrilled with the service I've received from Dr. Lai & Jim. I was referred by a friend who raved about them and he was right. I ordered both contacts and glasses and hope to never go back to the chain stores or Kaiser where the service is so impersonal and sometimes shoddy.
So far I've had no problem getting appointments right after work, which is helpful.
Dr. Lai is cool, but I could care less for his receptionists. They don't share the same customer service or attitude that Dr. Lai has. They were slow to even acknowledge me when I walked into the store, seemed very pushy about getting frames when I didn't need any (even though my insurance provided them), and I had to call to find out when my frames were ready.
Perhaps these receptionist don't work for Dr. Lai and just work for the store, but they definitely need better training or be replaced. They are the face of the store until you see Dr. Lai.
