This may be the best grouping of Yelp reviews I've ever seen for one company. 99% 5-star! AND rightly so!! Eyetailor rocks!

Sung is amazing! So nice. So on it. His personally designed frames are so great, as well as the collections he chooses to showcase in Eyetailor. Collections including l.a. Eyeworks, FACEaFACE and JFREY.

My boyfriend got some JFREY frames last week. They are his BEST frames ever!
    http://www.popularglas...

We were made to feel so comfortable. Not rushed, and not forgotten. We were made to feel VERY special. One-on-one care. Perfect balance.

Eyetailor is unique in that they make frames in-house. They also make lenses in-house. Sung does amazing work!

Sung helped my boyfriend choose his frames. Sung did the initial fitting. When we picked the frames up, it was Scott (I think that was his name!) who helped with final fitting. Scott was so awesome... he offered to clean up my boyfriend's old frames. They are now sparkling.... and Michael has two pairs of frames to wear depending on his mood!

    Overall, amazing experience! Thanks, Eyetailor.

Bought my first pair of spectacles from Sung. He has a great eye (no pun intended) and nice selection. Highly recommended.

*Consider sandblasting your chosen pair--makes them unique and Sung will hook it up for about 50 smackers.

Amazing selection of frames. Very cool stuff; even some crazy options.

Sung is amazing at selecting frames that work with your face. ( Asian face friendly here!) His customer service is top notch.

It's pretty pricey, but very high quality.

Plus you can grab some fancy bras over at Janette's and pick up a few scoops of delicious ice cream at Scoops nearby.

I use to live around the corner from this shop and walking by it frequently to go to scoops.  Sung is like my local dealer in the sense he know exactly the frames to show me and to get me hooked.  Even when it's not even time to get my eyes some new frames. It's just that addictive!   You can casually browse and just check out their selection. It's refreshing to have great customer service in LA without the hard sale. I urge everyone to get their frames/lenses from here, it's simply the best shop in town.

If something goes wrong, you are stuck because they are completely inflexible on quality issues.  They do not stand behind their work.  Buyer beware.

Carries some interesting lines, but look and then go elsewhere.  I paid well over 500.00 for a pair of glasses, and less than a month later, the scratch coating rippled.  (When this happens, you can't see anything...it's as if there is vaseline on the lenses.)  I look them back and the owner said it was because I had exposed them to heat (as in left in the car) or another hot spot.
My glasses have the polarized lenses and function as my sunglasses, so I never left them in the car.  They were always on my face, or in the case at night.  I've also had the scratch coating since it was available, with no problems.
The owner wouldn't replace them.  He offered me a 15% discount, in spite of the fact that he makes his own lenses.  Every bona fide eyewear store I called said they would have replaced them at no cost
(from a great designer shop in the Palisades to Costco Optical.)

Sidebar issue: the glasses didn't fit in the first case he gave me.  I was glad that I tried the second one, because it didn't fit them either.  I don't understand the good reviews.  I would have thought that a not-so-great-employee was working the day I was there...but it was the same guy all four times.

I was greeted by a Korean dude with some big ass glasses - his name:  Sung.

After giving him a very high level description of the type of glasses I was looking for, "ummm, plastic ones would be cool,"  Sung immediately handed me a few glasses to try on, and surprisingly, I liked all of them.  Overall, he was very helpful.  Unfortunately, I didn't buy glasses but will return in the near future.

This is, hands-down, the number one place to go to to get your eyeglasses, sunglasses, rx lenses filled, or whatever you need to accessorize your eyes.

Sung has the natural skill to see you walk into the store and instantly know which frames will work and won't work for your face. He's a genius! It also probably comes from the fact that he's had more than 2 decades of experience as an optician! Like others have already said, Sung gives an honest opinion and truly values client satisfaction... (the review below mine must be in the wrong place as Eyetailor provides possibly the best optical service around town!) But yes, this place is definitely worth checking out for their great collection of frames and service!

I will definitely be back for that other pair of Bevel frames!!

    Fabulous.

    Things worth noting:
    1. Street parking and neighborhood parking available.

    2. Conveniently located near Pure Luck and Scoops.  Treat yourself to some tacos and marscapone oreo gelato after you're done.

    3. The guy there was very professional and cool.  I needed to replace the nose pads on my glasses, which he did for $5.  He noticed that they were a lil bent out of shape from years of dropping, stepping, and sitting.  He reshaped them for me for free.

    4. Takes all forms of credit cards.  No service fee, no minimum purchase required.

    5. I couldn't help but notice the current selection.  The place has everything from modernized vintage to sleek and professional.  Each pair of frames looked one of a kind, so much better than your local lenscrafters.  I found myself lusting for several pairs while waiting. I was a tad sad when I got my glasses back good as new and in less than 15 minutes.

Now that I can see again, I can't help but write a 5 star review just over nose pad repair.  It was a great service at a reasonable rate.  Plus, I think I found the perfect spot to for some unique frames once I put these old ones to rest.

"The owner is like the ninja of eye glass repair!!!"

I've never met a real life ninja before...and one that specializes in eye glass repair!?!? Sounded like a once in a lifetime opportunity to me! So we couldn't help but check out this "ninja" when an employee of their sister store across the street referred us there to get my bf's glasses repaired.

Eyetailor is a cute little shop with the most unique variety of sunglasses and eyeglasses I've ever seen. (Sorry Costco :-p) The owner was super welcoming and friendly. And in true ninja fashion, he fixed my boyfriend's glasses in the blink of an eye (free of charge!) As we continued to peruse the shop, he made some very helpful suggestions which made me believe  he was not only the ninja of eyeglass repair (as the first sales associate so kindly pointed out) but of eye wear as well. Definitely definitely definitely returning here for my next pair of glasses. It's a bit pricey, but I'm sure I will leave satisfied.

I had a problem(but one I can't really complain about)....the diamonds on my ladies Rolex scatched my brand new Burberry folding sunglasses...poor me, right??? :/  anyways, had to get em fixed so I took em here and homeboy installed new (polarized, and they wern't before...way better) lenses in em for sixty five bucks. The inventory of frames they had on the shelves were off the hook. All cool, old school styles. He was good to me and did a good job. It was a small thing but I appreciate good small business. Lotta people f*** up easy s***. I dont know what else to say. Five stars. Thank you.

I would not consider myself the typical eye wear customer.  I buy about every two years and the gear for my face is always high end.  You would too if you had bottle caps for lenses.  So my lenses actually take precedence over the frames I chose to purchase.  So it goes without saying that I'm pretty finicky about who I chose to take care of my eye gear.

So when I found Sung via the web on a recent trip to LA, I was pleasantly surprised.  I've been getting bored with the same old haunts in NYC and LA. So the name alone intrigued me.

Wow, am I glad I made the trip over to his shop from Santa Monica.

Sung as an incredible collection of eye wear.  Some might consider his merchandise pricey, but anyone who has done their research on popular designers from France and Italy would quickly squelch that line of reasoning.

I commissioned Sung's services of four different pieces of eye wear.  Three were from his shop and one of the frames was from LA Eyeworks.  I waited to write my review because some of the lenses have special coatings and treatments so I wanted to make sure they stood up before writing about my experience.  Basically, everything worked out fantastic.  He connected with my eye doctor out of state, got my prescription and went to work.  I made the order left and he sent them to me via Fed Ex a few weeks later.

Incredible service, great attention to detail.

Sung's services are not for everyone.  You may have to do some self analysis on your real need before commissioning him.  But it will be money well spent.

When my friend started shopping for her perfect, funky, cute glasses she could not find back here in San Diego, especially that fit her face perfectly. When she found it, it was in LA, and I made sure to visit the place she raved so much about, because, well, I'm Asian just like her and I realized I also need glasses that don't slide down 24/7.

And she was right! Eyetailor is one of a kind shop. Not only do they have awesome selection of unique glasses but they also have nice brands that I've never seen in chain shops like Classical Eye.

Sung also installed nosepads for my friend although she didn't buy the glasses there, and assisted me in finding my pair of glasses. He also fixed my boyfriend's sunglasses (that he accidentally sat on) without charging him a dime. :) Great service with competitive pricing. He is an honest optician and I could tell why he has so many rave reviews.

I've read a couple negative reviews below about sung's customer service so I wanted to share my experience.

I was looking for a great set of frames and started my search at gogosha in silver lake.  it's a good shop, but a little over the top for me.  my fiancé recommended the eye tailor, she's a stylist and had found some very rare frames from sung in the past and had a great experience.  my buddy and I cruised over and were pleasantly surprised by sung's selection of frames for both of us.  he's got a great eye for individual character and tastes.  my friend and I both eventually bought our frames there.  I've gone back several times to get the fit adjusted as frames tend to naturally loosen over time. sung is super gracious about it every time.  I had a screw fall out on one occasion and he replaced both screws with longer screws with extra threading so they wouldn't fall out. he also noticed the anti-glare coating was peeling off of my glasses. unsolicited, he reached out to his glass vendor and they agreed to replace my lenses.  sung cut the glass and had them ready for me to come in the next day to switch them out.  I've since bought another pair of frames from sung and have been extremely happy with all of my experiences with his shop.

    5 stars.

If you are looking for eyeglass or sunglasses lenses to fit into your new empty frames, this is the place to go!!! I used to pay at least $100 for a pair of custom lenses (standard price at most L.A. opticians), and I would have to wait up to 1 week to pick up my glasses.

Mr Kim can do the job FAST and he charges half the price of what other places charge. I am getting lenses custom-cut and fitted in two pairs of vintage frames right now and the total cost is a mere $50. My friend paid about $70 for prescription lenses and they were ready the next day.

I will be back with more glasses frames....!

Tip: Drop into SCOOPS on Heliotrope across the street for some ice-cream while you're there.

I highly recommend Sung Kim's services. I dropped three pairs of vintage frames off to be filled with lenses--he cuts his own lenses there, so the quality is really good and fit the frames perfectly. I got two pair of regular glasses and a pair for sunglasses. He was very helpful in assisting me with choosing a tint for my sunglasses since this was my first pair ever! He recommends polarized lenses, which cost about $70 more than just a regular tint ($90), but its totally worth it since I'll be wearing them on the road quite a bit and it cuts down on the glare from other cars, the sun, and weather considerably.

The frames I brought in were vintage from the 60s (read: nerdy-looking), not really a shape thats super contemporary and Mr Kim was very honest in pointing that out to me, even though I didn't really ask. Normally a comment like that might offend, but he made me feel like he was looking out for my best interest and look instead of sounding like an insult. A good quality in an optician.

I really like the array of frames that he has in stock too. Even though I didn't buy my frames here, he never made me feel pressured to try on any of his frames or give me the hard sell that many other opticians do. I've seen some of the frames he has at other eyeglass shops and Mr Kim's prices were very competitive, if not cheaper than other shops in LA, i.e., Gogosha or LA Eyeworks.

I will definitely be making my next purchase of frames and lenses from Mr Kim and Eyetailor.

Oh...and good call on checking out Scoops on Heliotrope across the street. YUMMY!

I'd had my eye on this shop for a while, given the positive reviews, and I finally decided it was time to get myself some new glasses.  I stopped in and browsed a bit to get an idea of the selection and pricing.  Sung was friendly and helpful without being at all pushy.  He made some good suggestions for frames that would be flattering, and also was very knowledgeable about the frames and lenses.  There was a good selection of frames (Bevel, Mykita, l. a. Eyeworks, Starck, Paul Smith, etc.).

I also dropped by a shop near my office that was said to have a good selection of frames and did some comparison shopping.  Sure enough, as other reviewers have noted, Sung has very competitive pricing.  That's not to say his frames are inexpensive, but he has high quality designer frames for much better prices than this other shop I checked, and his price on lenses was much better too despite the fact that the other shop actually accepts my vision insurance and so gives me a discount from their regular prices.

I took pictures of myself in different frames at Eyetailor so that I could ask my family their opinion, and we agreed on a pair of frames.  I dropped off my order and picked it up a week later (they only took a few days to make the lenses).  This was the first time that frames were completely comfortable and well-fitting without any adjustments, although I asked him to make a minor adjustment around the ear.   Maybe buying a Japanese frame gave me a better initial fit--the optician usually has a heck of a time adjusting the nosepads enough to make them comfortable for my Asian nose.

Great selection of designer frames, great pricing, great service, and even open extended hours 7 days/week!  Highly recommended.

Metered parking along Melrose, some free parking along side streets.

    Amazing. Incredible. Hip.

I've never had "nice" glasses even though I've worn glasses since I was six years old. I finally decided I was sick of my ugly-ass frames and went in here. All I had to do was stand there while people selected frames for me and I tried them on. As I specified what I didn't like about each frame, the choices narrowed until suddenly ... the glasses that belonged on my face appeared. They were perfect. And they were ready to pick up in THREE DAYS.

I cannot recommend this place enough. If you are looking for a deal, or looking for basic, boring glasses then please move on because you will not like it here. It's expensive and unique.

Sung Rocks! After combing through all the Yelp reviews for nearby Opticians, I decided on Eyetailor. Even though I had my own frames, I loved the fact that he makes his own!
Brought in my own frames I snapped up at the Rose Bowl flea market, discussed lense options, he took my measurements and voila! Done.
Picked up my new glasses a week later... great work, groovy people, all around good vibes. I feel good giving my money to Sung.

Besides great relaxing customer service, he's also got loads of experience (he was at LA Eyeworks for years!) and a nice selection of hip frames from major brands and obscure designers.

If you ever break your frames and need them repaired, come here! With Sung, you know your glasses will be in good hands. After my vintage plastic frames broke, I took them to a bunch of different repair shops and everyone told me they weren't fixable at all.

So I shipped off my glasses to Sung (since I don't live in LA), and a week later, received a box in the mail with my frames, as good as new! They even fit better than they ever did, and it only cost $25 + shipping.

I've been meaning to give Eyetailor a positive review for a while now. I bought my first pair of glasses here after touring the department stores and one hour places and finding all of the same overpriced junk. At eyetailor I found the exact set of retro frames I had been looking for (the Ronsir Revelation frames) and 24 hours later I had expertly fitted glasses with coated and scratch resistant lenses made on the premises (and a stylish carrying case with ample lens cleaning supplies on the house), for $199.

Low markups on unique frames, courteous staff, and high quality lenses with a quick turnaround. I will always come here first from now on.

Also, if you need to get lenses or do any other modifications to your frames, he's the person to go to.  He's definitely the person that the other optical stores send their jobs to!

    Ladies and Gentlemen:
I am a serious frame collector for the last 25 years.
London and Zurich usually have the best frames on planet Earth.
Berlin & NYC have some decent shops as well, but by far the best one in LA is Eyetailor. Don't even think about going somewhere else.
Lenses are even more reasonable priced than LensCrafters.

My beloved other half needed a new pair of glasses and I found Eye Tailor on Yelp... and boy am I glad we found Sung (the owner and operator). Reasons why a visit here is a MUST if you're in the market for new glasses:
    1) The selection of glasses are phenomenal. Funky, trendy and classy... If you're looking to make your glasses a fashion accessory, you will be pleased with his selection.
    2) Sung has over 25 years of experience in the industry. He knows everything there is to know about frames and how they fit your face and how the prescription of your lenses might affect the way your glasses will look.
    3) His has excellent prices and he works fast!
    4) You just get that one-on-one attention and service here. Sung was not trying to sell us a frame, he wanted to offer the best possible solution to our need. I got the impression that this was an art for him and that he cared greatly that his customers walked out of his establishment happy.

So next time you make your way to Scoops, drop by his place and check out what he's got...

I always take my time to find the perfect pair of eyeglasses. My aunt was an optician and she always made sure to take her time to help me pick the perfect lenses, so even when I had my prescription I visited several optical shops before I finally found Eyetailor, and my experience was great. One of the first pairs of eyeglasses he put on my face was already perfect, and after debating, and putting several lenses on and off, I finally decided on a brown and beige cat eyes one. Perfect for giving me that sexy librarian look. I would really love to come back here to start collecting prescription eyeglass frames. It's not bad that it's so close to scoops either.

Mr. Kim's shop and business is truly a  wonderful experience.
He spent more than an hour with me whilst I tried on numerous glasses from his extensive selection. He actually gave me opinions on which glasses suited my face and style.  In my experience most people working at eyeglasses shops try to remain neutral in their opinions at all costs.  Sung Kim has a warm personality and is an excellent craftsmen. He does ALL of the work himself and is more than happy to customize lens shapes or reposition nose piece mounts to suit your face.
His selection is large and you will find all kinds of glasses from hip and cool to classic. I settled on a pair of handmade buffalo horn glasses that are absolutely beautiful. They are one of a kind and tailored to my face.
I have worn glasses since I was in second grade, and in 20 odd years I have never received such attentive service and custom made glasses.
Great Shop, excellent service, and amazing glasses!

I live in Atlanta and was having a difficult time finding a pair of frames I really liked.  After many years of buying frames and trusting my "own" judgement and making BIG mistakes I decided to find someone who would help me with the choice.  On a business trip to LA I done a google search and found the EyeTailor. I decided to drive over to visit.  I can tell you that I was greeted by the owner Sung, he spent so much time with me and gave me an honest opinion of what looked good on me and what didn't.  I appreciate his professionalism so much.  I bought a pair of frames that I absolutely LOVE and feel so good about how they look on me.  He is absolutely fantastic and has the greatest selection of frames I have ever seen in one store.  I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great pair of frames and a true professional that wont guide you wrong!

Most of the reviewers before me have said all that needs to be said. Sung is very helpful and offers a great service! One of my nosepads recently popped off my frame. It was Sunday after 5pm, so I thought I'd have to wait until Monday. I checked the website; they're open until 7 on Sundays! I drove over, and got a new set of nosepads right away -- no charge!
