Alright so guess who has two thumbs and somehow managed to knock her glasses (which she'd had since high school) into the trash can LAST YEAR??? Yeah, this girl. Annnnd guess who has two eyes, one of which is wanky and the other 20/20, and realized something needed to be done when she took out her 3-day-old contact lens and it RIPPED and then the next day she took out her NEW contact lens and IT ripped? Yup, same girl.
So, being a college student and all, I decided to call around and get a decent guesstimate on how much I'd be looking at paying for, say, $200 frames, plus one prescription lens, plus anti-glare, minus student discount (hint hint hint). Eye Q's Stephen Pereira said they'd be able to find a deal for me given my needs and estimated something in the $280-$350 range.
Dr Laurie is wonderful if you don't need a lot of help. He will not give an opinion even if you beg, because he knows you need to decide based on what you want, not what he wants to sell you. I, however, am an agonizer of the HIGHEST degree, so Stephen was my lifesaver. By the time he and I were done discussing, I had 3 possible frames, his business card with the exact info about each frame, AND a definite price for each prospective pair of glasses, which included a very kind discount from Dr. Laurie, and which stayed exactly within the range Stephen gave me over the phone a week before!

Might I also add that because I needed their help, everyone stuck around and kept helping and never got bored or annoyed or irritated or clockwatching even though I didn't leave till 6:15???

OH and ALSO, they have a 30-day perfect cheerfulness exchange guarantee, so that I can pick out the edgy, Art-deco, apathetic-French-artist frames and see if I love 'em - and if I don't, I can come back and they promise to happily, cheerfully, smilingly switch 'em out for the slightly more boring-but-I'm-used-to-that-style frames that *they will have saved for me when I buy the first pair*.

I feel like you should have to pay extra for this kind of service, but you guys? I'm gonna be paying prob $200 less than at PearleVision! Um, hello? Support local businesses, one-of-a-kind four-eyes, unbelievably nice people, AND it's cheaper than the supergiantchain? Where do I sign? Oh, on the credit card slip? Awesome.

Such love for Eye Q!

Saw Dr. Luria at the Eye Q in Harvard Square and couldn't be happier with the results. Here's how it broke down:

Exam - I have astigmatism, and consequently have been wearing the same type of toric contact lenses since I was about 13. They're annual wear so they're high maintence (clean and disinfect every night) and expensive. Additionally, I could only get 20/40 vision from them and they were becoming increasingly hard to find.

My old eye doctor tried to fit me with disposables time and time again, but none of them fit well. I was convinced I was doomed to these annuals for the rest of my life or until I decided to have Lasik. Dr. Luria took one look at them and was aghast (they were old and so uncomfortable). He said they'd come a long way with toric disposables and he had ones for me to try. I was skeptical but willing.

After doing a complete exam that was very thorough and unrushed, the first pair of disposables he put me in fit perfectly. Additionally, I now had 20/20 vision for the first time in I don't know how long - and they were so comfortable! It honestly it felt like a miracle. Next best thing to Lasik.

I also got new glasses from them. They have the most unique selection of frames I've ever seen, and they guide you through what looks good. Not cheap, but  totally worth it.

These guys are my new eye care providers. Highly recommended!

If I would give ZERO stars I would!!!

I am from California and visiting my boyfriend one weekend, I ran out of contacts. I read on yelp that this guy was decent, so I make an appointment and told him I ONLY needed a prescription for contacts and glasses. Months later, I get a BILL in the mail for 150 dollars for the "medical exam" that he provided, when in fact, he only saw me for 15 minutes max, and provided me with the prescription. What I am most upset about is that the day of the visit, I paid 80 dollars OUT OF POCKET, and was promised that insurance would pay the rest. If you do the math, how can a 15 min checkup be $230? This is NOT the price that he quoted me. It is now a huge mess and a total chore to sort this out. I have been dealing with their billing office trying to sort this out for 2 hours. The funny thing is that the billing office also said that what he billed me for was a MEDICAL exam, something a MD had to refer me to!! uhhhh I DONT think so. Also, Dr. Luria wrote me a contact prescription for a certain type of contact that he "thought" fit my eyes well. Well, let me tell you, I could not purchase any other type of contacts, I wanted Acuvue and I could only purchase the kind he prescibed for me. These contacts have been itching my eyes, they get dirty ALLLLL the time, my eyes produce more water and gunk, it's soooo annoying I wanna scream. Except I bought 1.5 yrs supply. I am so upset, I think he prescribed this type of contact because he HAD them in the office that day and wanted to sell them to me.

DO NOT GO HERE, he only cares for the well being of himself obviously.

Love love love my new prescription sunglasses! They are designed by the people at Eye Q so I have a unique style that few other people have! These guys have really found the perfect balance btwn eye care professionalism and fashion. I got them in plenty of time for my trip to the Caribbean too. I'm going to feel like a movie star lying out on the beach. When picking them out there were two guys helping me at one point, but I never felt pressured, I felt like I was shopping with my friends. They made my glasses way faster than I expected and even offered to adjust the tinting if I didn't like it. Can't really ask for more than that!

Nuh-uh.

The eye exam was fine, even pleasant. I was told my vision was okay, but that maybe I should consider reading glasses. Then the doc morphed into showroom salesman and brought out stacks of frames for me to try on, all costing something like $250. No, thanks.

But he saw through my  "I think I'll come back later with a friend" excuse and raised it with a "You don't need a friend's opinion. Can't you make your own decisions?"  I grabbed my "prescription" and got out of there. It's so low, I can't get CVS reading glasses weak enough. Bah.

This place looks like it will cost a bundle but the prices end up the same as they do at ForEyes or Pearl Vision AND you get personalized quality service.  Its owned and operated by the same people who help you when you go in.  So of course, they care about your satisfaction.
They are a solidly great business.

So I ordered contacts on-line from my usual supplier about 3 weeks ago, and still a no show.  I go across the country tomorrow for a week and the last pair of contacts I have are already about 2 weeks old...and yes...these are 2 week contacts.

I call around today to at least 10 places in the area and some further out (natick/framingham) to see if they carry my specific brand.  Every place I called gave me some run around about how there was nothing they could do and blah blah blah.

I call Eye Q, and within 5 minutes, the lady I spoke to - Tracy I believe (I'm horrible with names sometimes) told me to come in and that they would be able to help me out...and they did.

She provided me with a spare pair of contacts to last me throughout the week, until I can figure something else out when I get back...

I basically spent 2 hours calling around to every place I could find on google, until I hit Eye Q - and within 5 minutes she solved my problem.

I went in the store, and the transaction, including our chatting, took all of 7-10 minutes.

It is great to know that people in retail positions still feel human enough to treat others like human beings and not robots.  It is even better to know that there are still retail folks out there who will extend themselves, and go beyond what they are required in order to help another person.

Thank you Eye Q.  I will be going there for my future eye exams.

Love Eye Q.  Use to go to the South End location and just visited the Harvard Square location.  They have great glasses - all styles and while not cheap, they are willing to bargain.  They knock off a percentage if you get two pairs and will knock off even more if you pay in cash.

So I've worn glasses since I was 8 and until I went to Eye Q, every optometrist I'd gone to inevitably said something to the effect of "whoa, your eyes are really bad for someone your age". Ummm.... thanks! I hadn't realized this. Thanks for making me feel even more insecure about my -8 myopia + astigmatism.

Eye Q is different. They treat me like a rock star who is somehow more special than the teeming masses who have eagle eyes. Eye exam? Quick, minimal guesstimating at what my nemesis the eye chart says. Dr. Luria explains what's happening with my eyes, which I find endlessly fascinating. The whole, time, though, he's thinking about the fun part--picking out new frames!

The last time I went was two weeks ago. I needed new glasses badly (it had been four years and my plastic frames were becoming brittle and the lenses were scratched) and thanks to my workplace's flexible spending account, I could finally afford them. (Eye Q isn't cheap, but glasses are the accessory you wear on your face! for me, every day! so ponying up a bit more is worth it).

Anyway, Dr. Luria had frames in mind: purple and green, rectangular. I was ready to make the break from my much-loved cateyes and trust Dr. Luria. However, if you're as blind as me, trying on frames is iffy at best--my vision was blurry and blurred further by the eyedrops for the glaucoma test. And purple and green, really?  Ummmm...

Luckily,  I brought my friend K. She and the other two Eye Q employees working that day helped me narrow down my search to three pairs including the one Dr. Luria had picked out. I also benefited from the opinion of a customer who popped in. In the end, the five people helping me choose the new hunk of plastic that I would wear on my face every day picked...the green and purple ones.

So Eye Q came through again.

Efficient, friendly, amazing customer service, frames you won'[t find anywhere else.

I am a bad person. I wear my contact lenses like a pair of old shoes -- hey, sometimes, they even feel about as chewed up. I finally decided to get my eyes examined since I was running out of lenses.

The experience was great. I confessed my eye related sins, got forgiven without having to buy an indulgence, and got a very thorough exam which showed the my eyes had actually improved a bit (could read the 20/15 line with less powerful lenses).

They also have this neat machine which basically takes a picture of the inside of your eye. I was all ewww then COOL! The inside of my eyes look like some odd deep sea creature come to life (Sadly there was no descriptive commentary by David Attenborough).

After my exam, I chose a pair of glasses and the sales person was nice and aware enough to know that I am the "leave her alone" kind of customer.

I also got NO grief when I mentioned I wanted to order my lenses online. All things considered, I was very pleased.

OMG, I can't believe someone blames the doctor for not noticing they had not taken off their contact lenses.  Who would go through an eye exam and not take off their contact lenses, or not make mention of it?  Sorry, but there is something very wrong with that.  Very odd.

I love this place.  Not only has everyone I've dealt with here throughout the years been extremely helpful and professional, they also have the best eyeglass selection.   This is a place where one definitely gets what they pay for.  I have never been treated this well by any other eye place, and I've been to a lot.  Eye Q Optical actually makes an otherwise dreary experience, fun.

For 4 years I hopped between optometrist, looking for the one who is a perfect fit (ha) for my windows to my soul. EyeQ got two visits out of me. I saw Dr. David Luria during both trips.

Back in 2004 I was an contact-lens-only wearer. Things went well - appointment, exam, payment. If you wear contacts, you know that in order to purchase lenses with other vendors, you have to submit numbers like lens power, base curve, etc. As I paid, I noticed that the numbers were different on two separate documents they handed me - both written by Dr. Luria. I pointed this out, and one of them said:

"Oh, don't worry about it -- here I'll just fix that,"

and randomly grabbed one form to change the numbers to match. To this day I don't know if he picked the right one. No one called for Dr. Luria; didn't seem like they cared, either.

In 2007, I returned, after trying a couple of other doctors in the area and not feeling the right vibe. Despite the above, I remembered that the EyeQ guys were extremely nice, so I decided to give them another try. I had also finally decided to get a pair of glasses, and these folks were notorious for having interesting frames that didn't make you look like a Level 56 Nerd. So I walked in on the day of my appointment:

Counter folks: ".... hug everyone!"
Me: "Mm? You guys giving out free hugs?"
Counter folk: "Um. SURE!"
*HUGS*

So by now I was thinking, aw, I'm home. I then said, "I'm looking for glasses that, how do I say this, uh, NOT make me look even more Asian."

And they totally got it. So some pairs were tried and I found my glasses, which I like (don't love - but like enough to wear, which is quite an accomplishment) to this day.

Going well so far! Next: appointment w/ Dr. Luria. He performed a few tests, and said he would like a follow-up test in a couple of weeks, that he was concerned about one of the test results. We scheduled that.

Two weeks later, we did the test again.

"Looks great! Results are much better. There is one more thing," and he went to put some eye drops in my eyes for reasons I can't recall. At which point he stopped short and said, looking a bit startled,

"Oh. Did you have contact lenses in during that whole test?" (The test two weeks ago was sans lenses. I considered bringing this up, but decided he was going to be staring at my eyeballs all through that test, therefore would see them, and deduced he wanted them to stay in.)

"Um, yes."

"Oh. Well, we should have taken them out for the test."

No mention of re-testing. I was given the eye drops, sent home. I never went back.

So, here's an OPTOMETRIST who FAILED TO SEE THAT I'M WEARING CONTACT LENSES THROUGH AN EYE EXAM. I don't even have a good metaphor for this to try and be funny about it. (Mechanic not seeing the car cover? Designer wondering why clothing fits funny when the model is already dressed?)

EyeQ, you're hip and cool, your glasses are stylish, but you know, stylish glasses do jack sh-t if your eye exams FAIL. For those of you who took the time to read this mess of a post, I recommend using these guys as a frames shop only, for the sake of your vision.

5 Stars for friendliness/great products, minus 3 for er.. failed optometricising.

2:30pm on Dec 30th and I want to have an eye exam and get new glasses, today, so that I can use my new job's vision benefit for 2008.  I yelp, read through, call Eye Q.  They can see me at 5pm.

The exam is thorough, good, Dr. Luria was real good at answering my questions and talking through when I might need bifocals and such.  Figured out my contact lenses and put in an order.  The test pair have been one of the most comfortable pair of contact lenses I have worn.

Both Dr. Luria and Tricia were great with me and other customers on looking at frames.  Very helpful - try this, try that - and honest - no, that doesn't look good on you.  I chatted with other customers; it was more friendly than your neighborhood coffee shop.  I ended up with a pair I expect to be very happy with.

I live in the South End, and no problem to get the glasses and contacts delivered there.

I was thinking of downgrading to 4 stars - they are a bit on the expensive side - but the service, the help, the variety, all of it was so good that I couldn't notch it down.

I've been wearing glasses for about 20 years.. and contacts for about 10.. yet I NEVER remember to "back" things up. Always always have 2 pairs of glasses and always always have a box of contacts. Especially if you're a clutzy mcCluzterston like me and your contacts like to jump out of your eye. Like I've said before.. the 5 second rule doesn't apply when you drop your contact on the Boston city sidewalks. There's like.. colonial diseases on there. And you scare the hell out of your optometrist when you say shiz like that. Not like I've done that...

Anyway one Saturday.. I woke up and realized I was on my very last pair of contacts.. that I'd been wearing for at least 2 weeks.. and I had broken my extra pair of glasses. Trish for the win! After calling several places in Cambridge and Somerville, Eye Q was the ONLY place that stated their prices up front (and without the large sighing over the phone.. seriously?). Everyone else kind of tip toed around giving me ridiculous ranges but never really coming out about how much just an eye exam and contact exam would cost. OR..the weekend people had NO idea what was happening. Really? There's no huge sign in the window stating your exam prices? Or one by the phone? Whatever. The person on the phone at Eye Q was friendly and upfront and the end.

The optometrist, Dr. Dave, was awesome. He explained everything that was happening and why he was doing it. He also chatted with me about how it's not that bad that I wear my contacts for longer than 2 weeks because the new contact solutions are much better at cleaning contacts than the solutions of old (when the rule of 2 weeks per pair was initially set). And to top it off.. he gave me some awesome news.. my eyes have gotten better! WAHHOOOOOOO. I have the highest level of astigmatism in both eyes and can barely see without contacts/glasses.. but I guess since college I haven't been reading as much (lmao) and my eyes have de-stressed themselves or something.. and improved. NICE.

So an eye glass exam + contact exam + contacts for a year (yeah year!).. were CHEAPER than Costco. Believe it or not. I didn't however get glasses because I think that's probably the more expensive part of the store.. but they had some really nice frames. Sad I used up my emergency fund for the exams/contacts.. so I might be back to try on some more frames when I have the money. Best part.. the contacts came in on a Wednesday/Thursday of that week. Speediest I've seen!

This is an eye doctor that is a notch above the rest.

Dr. Luria is very knowledgable and helped me get te perfect contacts for my eyes and perfectly explained the latest technology of eye contaxcts and his personal feedback. I felt really informed after I left and he did it all with a smile.

At first  I thought the Yelpers just got free goodies and thats why they lovedt his office. But the guy is on to something .

He is knowledgable ,  friendly ( entire staff) , ad a great sales person ! lol.. I ended up buying the contacts at the office ( instead of my usual 1-800-Contacts) because I felt a true doctor-patient alliance there.

Anyway.... he was pushing the glasses hard ! ( I guess thats thier money makers ) but I only use contacts so ...meh.... but overall ...an ABOVE AVERAGE experience.

Whole lotta love for you Eye Q.  I'd give you a six if I could.

Need a new eyeglasses personality/makeover...done.  Don't love it in 30 days just come back and try on a new persona...no charge!

Elvis Costello Doofus Frames break cause your Lab head-butts you...no problem.  Hand them to Paul, he pops the lenses into a new frame in the back room...turnaround time - 3 minutes.

Fun...Friendly...Helpful...Expensive but always willing to work with you...I will not buy glasses anywhere else!

Oh yeah - Summer's on the way so they hooked up a free pair of prescription shades when I got new specs...don't need to hassle with contacts when it's sunny outside (just need to remember to bring regular glasses to work when you leave the house...don't want to be That Guy)!

My husband and I had to visit this place five times-.  Twice for to make sure our initial presciptions were correct (they weren't ), and three times to pick up our frames.  They ordered the wrong frames twice.  When I finaly received my correct frames with my (still incorrect but let's get it over with), lenses, the gentelman said 'oh, these frames will take a lot of adjusting'....  and then proceeded to explain how busy he was and how in the world would I expect my glasses to be adjusted with someone who is so  busy helping everyone else!

I waltzed into Eye Q Optical this afternoon with the intention of ordering a set of frames to match my newly acquired perscription

I'm an experienced eye glasses purchaser as I've worn glasses most of my life and I have to say that this was the most pleasant of my experiences choosing out frames. Granted I mostly shopped at Lens Crafters with my mother as a child.

I was helped by a lovely lady, Rita. She was an enormous help in choosing just the right frame to go with my face. It was nice to have her there to ask if I looked good in this or that, or if I should choose another color or lens shape. She would pull many frames and try them all on me!

At last I came upon the perfect pair. A simple black framed frame with the perfect shaped lenses. I was sold instantly!

When it came time to pay, I chatted up some other friendly customers while she rang up my ever so cheap bill. The frames were designed personally by someone at Eye Q (It's their own line!) The frames were only $259 and after the non-glare finish and the prescription I only paid $329. Way cheaper than Lens Crafters even with the AAA discount!

Tell all your friends that Eye Q is the best in town!

This place is the real deal. Dave the opto was truly top shelf - I've been near blind for about 20 years and he's the best I've been to so far.

The glasses selection was a bit more homogenous than I expected. I admittedly freak out a bit when choosing specs (oh, so this is how my face will love for the next 2+ years...) so having a more complete range would be better.

Initially I had a good experience here - the selection is great and the salespeople are very helpful (although also very high-pressure) - prices are extremely high though, and unlike most other eyewear stores they really don't stand behind their products (all house-brand)

Today I went in with a two-year-old pair of their frames that had broken with only very light use. They would not repair them, they would not offer any sort of warrantee, all they would do is sell me a replacement pair for full price.

I've worn glasses for about twenty years, and this was both the most expensive pair of glasses I've ever owned and also the only pair that ever broke (even though I babied this pair and not the others) - I told the Eye Q guys that if they won't stand behind their products I won't be shopping there again.

Ever since I wrote this, the owner of Eye-Q has been harassing me by phone and email.

I went to the Boston Eye Q in the South End.  I just moved to the neighborhood and was a bit hesitant about going there.  It was a small store and I was not sure it would have a lot of choices plus I thought it might be expensive like many of the other stores in the area.

I was instantly greeted by Richard who was so nice and personable that I felt like we had been friends in a previous life.  It did not take me anytime to find the right frames.  These frames fit my face perfectly and comfortably.  I instantly fell in love with the color and look.

Usually I shop around esp now that I am a grad student and have no money.  I was having such a hard time finding the right glasses that I thought I would just replace the lens on my old frames.  That was how frustrated I was at that point.  When I walked into Eye Q, the whole experience was smooth.  Richard even helped me with a price that fit my budget.  I bought the eye glasses on the spot and have not regretted my purchase.

Eye Q is a great place with people who care about their product and want the customers to be happy with the purchase.  I had such a great time there that the next time I walked by the store and saw that Richard was working, I popped in for a small chat.  That is how nice he is!

I had so much fun here. First of all Paul is hilarious and it's true, he will bring pair after pair for you to try on, but actually I tired HIM out! I am the type who could try on clothes/glasses for hours on end. He was like "girl you don't even NEED my help, want a job here?" I think he is the founder, so he is very enthusiastic and really loves helping you get a good frame for your face. They do order nice ones too, the brands are not your typical ones.
He was also playing a great Replacements record. There were a few other customers there ages ranging from 60s to 20s and we were all having a nice time chatting with one another and commenting on our try-ons.
The doctor is nice too, he sent me home with pictures of the insides of my eyeballs which I thought was pretty cool.

I must say that my experience here was disappointing--though the staff was generally friendly and sociable.  I called around to a number of places to inquire about prices.  services, etc.  The person who answered the phone said that they would do a complimentary refraction (since I only wanted a new refraction and not a complete eye exam) if I bought frames. He then checked with someone else and revised the price--the refraction would be $50.  I still scheduled an appointment.  When I got there, I was told it would actually be $79--"we don't do a part of an exam."  The exam itself was thorough, and the optometrist did an excellent job of explaining what he was doing.

Quite a few times in fine stores, I've been tempted to buy items beyond my budget.  I did not have that experience here.  There honestly were not any frames that were quite what I was hoping to find.  For the prices they charge, I would have expected a bit better.  It also bothered me that frames are not marked with prices--the prices only appear on a teeny-tiny piece of paper in the back of certain shelves.  Trying to figure out the actual price was not very easy as they talked about how they would "massage the price" to make it work.  After my experience with the refraction pricing, I was not going to risk learning about changes after-the-fact.

Since I needed glasses rather quickly, I almost bought a pair here--until the owner commented on the amount of competition in Harvard Square.  A newcomer to town, I did not realize that there were so many choices.  Once I learned that there were a variety of options, I (somewhat unhappily) paid my $79  for the refraction and left.

I do agree with others that some services can be cool--the photo they take of your eye and the photos they give you of yourself in various frames.  Those gimmicks are not enough to get me to come back when there are many stores with better selection, more stylish frames, and more reasonable prices...

I can see? I can SEE!

Yeah, I'm not blind, just a little nearsighted and I only really need glasses to drive at night, watch movies, tv, etc...  In any case, I needed new glasses and when I dropped in well before I intended to buy anything, Paul found me a great pair of frames, didn't push me to buy them that day, took a picture of me with them on, gave me the picture and wrote down the model for when I decided to get them. Not pushy, just cool.

So now I've been in for my eye exam and I'm getting my glasses and it's been a good experience all around thanks to the staff here. Highly recommended.

I love Eye Q Optical!  They have such beautiful frames, great staff who leave you alone if you like, give you input if you like, and will take polaroids of you in the frames so you can take the pics home and think about/get input on the big decision.

It's not always easy to find really awesome frames that you want sitting on your face full-time.  But after finding my last two pairs of glasses there, you can bet Eye Q will be first on my list when the need arises again.

I currently live in Los Angeles, but was born and raised in the Greater Boston area.  When I was home for Christmas, I was walking through Harvard Square with a friend of mine.  He pointed at Eye Q and said, "This is where I get all of my glasses."  I studied his amazingly fun pair for a second and said, "Well, I do need new glasses."

5 minutes later, I had Paul, Locke (I think), and even Dr. Luria all handing me frame after frame to try on.  Every frame was fun, different than anything else I had ever tried, and surprisingly affordable.  The staff, especially Paul, was very helpful and accommodating.  After consulting with my friend, calling another friend who worked in the square for her opinion, and even asking a stranger, I settled on a frame.  (I wear exclusively glasses every day, no contacts, so it's important that my frames be perfect.)  I mentioned that I would need an eye exam, as it had been close to 3 years since my  last one.  Dr. Luria checked his schedule and said, "I can take you in about 20 minutes."  Great!  He used new machines that I had not seen at my previous optometrists to take pictures of my eyeballs (way cool).  I paid for my glasses and arranged to have them shipped to my apartment.

Even when I needed to have something adjusted with my glasses, they were accommodating--from 3000 miles away.  I would strongly recommend this store to anyone who is passionate about their specs.

I love Eye Q.  Dr. Luria provides a thorough, comprehenensive exam (and also seems to know when someone should consult an opthamologist), and the staff gives excellent advice on finding frames (and, by the way, their frames are adoreable).  They are patient, extremely enthusiastic and warm and so customer-service oriented. For example, my fiancee got  a pair of glasses there about two years ago. When his prescription changed, he asked Eye Q to replace the lenses with new ones - shortly thereafter, the frames just sort of gave way.  Eye Q gave him new glasses for free - no hassle.   Even better, they are so helpful with adjusting glasses over the years.  Definitely recommended.

I did not experienced the sales pressure that other people talk about. I've had my style of frames from EyeQ for about 3 years now. I had a really hard time breaking away from the same silver boring frames I had been wearing for about 12 years. They were really good at finding a pair that suited me. They kept me from going towards a thick black frame, which they assured me, wasn't me. They were right.  I've sent numerous friends in for frames and they have always been happy with their results.

My most recent experience was replacing a frame of mine that was broken. I had replaced my frames last March. That replacement pair kept ending up crooked. I had been back in to adjust them several times over the last couple months. This time, they just replaced the frames. It is just an example of the good customer service extending beyond the initial purchase.

P.S. Everyone loves the giant calculator. We just do.

I had a really great experience at Eye-Q.  During the check-up I felt that I was being treated with respect and dignity.  My questions were always being answered in a thorough and respectful way.

The glasses selection process made me feel OK.  But, then again, I tend to perseverate over the choice of glasses and frames!  They probably got impatient with me.

Overall, a good experience and decent prices.

Although it's been a few years since I lived in the Boston area, I still love this place!  Buying glasses at Eye Q was a blast, and they definitely helped to "ease" me into some frames I would have never considered on my own.  I've gone through a couple of pairs of frames from Eye Q now.  Even though my most recent pair is several years old, I still get regular compliments from people who clearly shop at the trendiest of New York boutiques.  Love it!

I have been on the hunt for a new pair of eyeglasses for months, and I've been to five optical shops in Harvard Square already looking for the perfect pair. Before I went into Eye Q, every place had something wrong with it: dismissive employees, limited eye wear selections, and I even got this distinct feeling from one that I was being ripped off (shady deals with rocket-high prices). So when I stepped into doors of Eye Q and entered its clean, simple setup, I wasn't expecting much. However when, Tricia - super-friendly, non-pushy, giving her honest opinion Tricia - greeted me warmly, I had a good feeling that this might be the day when I find my coveted pair of perfect new specs.
True enough, I spent nearly an hour inside the store (but never felt rushed or pressured to buy anything), and ended up falling in love with not one but two pairs of eyeglasses! Of course, as it was the day after Christmas and my bank account was severely depleted from all the holiday shopping, I could only afford one. But oh what a gorgeous, face-framing, budget-friendly one it was! I am so happy with the service and the selections here, and I cannot wait to wear my new eyeglasses! Tricia predicted that I might just love them so much that I might start wearing my contacts less, and my glasses more. We'll see. But now I know that if I do need another new pair, I'll go straight to Eye Q and skip all the optical shops in the area.

You may not buy glasses from these guys, but visit them before you buy somewhere else. I went to numerous other stores in the area and couldn't find people or frames that even came close.

It was an easy decision to get my frames from them. Every employee I interacted with was generally awesome and the selection of frames is unparalleled.

Though I didn't end up buying my glasses here, I really wished I had. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The store's selection is the best I have seen in a long time. They have a lot of great funky frames. They also do this really cool thing were you can try n frames, they take your photo in them and so you can take it home and mull it over, get your friends opinions etc.
The customer service and quality product is fantastic.
I HIGHLY recommend this place if you are in need of new specs!

I've been buying my glasses from Eye Q for almost ten years, and  recently I had a moment of doubt. David and Paul the owners provide amazing service (not only do they remember your name, they also remember the name of all your kids), but I never know if I'm paying a reasonable price. Also, there are so many options for lenses that it's very hard to compare products.

A couple of weeks ago I walked in to fill a new prescription for progressives and chose a pair of regular glasses and a pair of sunglasses. Tricia, one of the opticians who works there, calculated a price. I took a look and had no idea whether this was a deal or a steal. So, I told them that I wanted to call my optometrist and get his opinion. First, they wrote out all the information so that it would be easy to present. Second, David, the optometrist sat down and explained all the new developments in lens technology. I then got an email from Paul with several pricing options and their best offer. I took all this information to my optometrist who confirmed pretty much everything David had told me about lenses. Because my optometrist didn't know the pricing, he checked with an optician friend of his. This is where it gets tricky, I discovered that I could get the lenses for less at another shop, but only by a small amount. I took this information back to the team at Eye Q, and this is where they impressed me. They didn't match the price, but they did get damn close. Throughout this process, Tricia, who is amazing, stayed in touch every couple of days.

This might seem like a ridiculous amount of effort to go through for a pair of glasses, but I really like these guys and I wanted to know they were being fair and above board with me. They get high marks for being completely transparent, bending over backwards to provide information, and being nice the whole time. Plus, they have the coolest selection of frames in Cambridge. If you want an honest, authentic experience and a great pair of glasses at what will be a fair price, visit Eye Q. There are a handful of businesses that raise service and integrity to an art level, and these guys are among the elite.

Great customer service.  The selection is also good, but they don't carry some popular labels.  The prices are a little on the high end, but not obscenely so.

Eye Q is a really great eye glass shop.  Frames are cool and the sales staff is really helpful in finding frames that look good on you.  They are friendly, pull a lot of frames, suggest things that may be outside of your typical style and give you real feedback on what looks good and what doesn't. That process may feel pushy to some people or if the wrong salesperson is working with you, but for me it has been more helpful than at any other store where I've bought frames.

Styles are cool, but mostly in the funky, arty, North East style. That worked for me, but if you are looking for something else you may be disapointed.  I got free sunglasses with my regular frames and their optometrist was fast, friendly and professional.

Can you say high pressure sales tactics? These guys must be paid only on commission because they are extremely aggressive. My first experience here wasn't that bad...they were helpful but still trying to close the sale asap. When I came back for a second look another sales guy was busy with another customer for over 10 minutes so I decided to leave. The salesman snapped at me as I was leaving, sorry but this is not cool. Fancy and stylish frames are not worth brutal service.

No pressure sales when I went.  I had been searching for a new pair everywhere, then someone recommended this place (off yelp nonetheless)  I finally picked a much more trendy frame than I normally get, but it was perfect, given my misshapen head.  Evidently they design some of the frames themselves, and the staff (Jeremy in my case) was extremely helpful.  There were a couple other people in there and we all found frames that just looked great.  They got my biz.

I'm horrible at choosing glass's, for one I cant see a damn thing without mine on so its pretty hard to judge how well they look, I wore coke bottle glass's till freshman year in high school for christ sakes.  I went in cause I saw an ad for a free pair of prescription sun glass's with a pair of frames and len's, I was sold right away since I hated those dwayne wayne flip ups one.  The guys were super cool and let me know there thoughts on what I was trying on, it was sort of like an episode of queer eye for the straight guy for me and I was glad since I could essentially try on cheetah prints and not even know it.
