For our 10 day outing to PDX, we stayed here with the benefits of the kitchenette, and well, we weren't all that impressed.

The first room we went to had a non-working bathtub; luckily, my gal wanted to shower after a day of traveling, so we didn't discover this after a full nights' sleep.  We were changed to another room with a working tub that had a horrible cigarette stench, but we dealt.  The stench never went away during our vacation, but we just kinda sucked it up.  The beds are pretty uncomfortable, but hey - for an Extended Stay, it wasn't all that bad.

Staying for a month or more in a hotel was NOT how we wanted to get to know the metro Portland area, but we had no choice. The Extended Stay Deluxe was a great bargain and made us feel as at home as a hotel can. As we have a dog, we needed a dog-friendly place, and the manager put us in a room especially for people with disabilities, so we'd have a bit more room than a standard room. Dishwasher, big fridge, microwave, and plenty of dishes and cookware. Our VCR was missing a wire, and when we let them know, it was fixed *immediately*. No coffee machine -- the front desk staff got us one *immediately*. In short, the staff was so ready to help with anything. Walking around the huge block was perfect for our dog, and there were plenty of shopping and food options within walking distance. What would I do to improve our stay? (1) We paid a small fee to have fresh linens and refills of the hotel freebies (soap, coffee, etc.) every week; we'd been happy to pay a bit more to have the bathroom cleaned as well every week! (2) If the breakfast bar had had milk and cereal, it would have been an almost perfect experience. (3) Faster Internet and we would have stayed there TWO months!

I ended up staying at the Extended Stay Deluxe for a few days while I helped open the new Whole Foods Market (that is rather conveniently located across the street).

It was fine for this style hotel room, kitchenette with fridge, range, and microwave; dining room; and a decent sized sleeping area, bathroom, and closet.

My experience was hopefully out of the norm though, there were zero pots and pans in my room, something I'd expect the housekeepers to check. When I inquired at the front desk, I got an excuse and I felt like it was too much of a bother for them to get any. I also didn't receive any housekeeping services on my last two days. For the first few days I had a "do not disturb" sign up, but for the last I took it out and wanted housekeeping. In hindsight, I think they have some policy where you have to request housekeeping, so it may have been my fault.

Overall though, my stay was good. They have fixed price wi-fi (but make sure you get a room close to the lobby). They are located close to many, many shops, a Starbucks, Chipotle, and Whole Foods.

I'd stay again on my company's dime, but probably not on my own.
