Not bad for one of the cheaper places in SB. About 10 mins from downtown / 'mainstream' SB - so not too bad. I've stayed at a few Extended Stays across the country and honestly this one is probably the most outdated one I've been to (I've been to ones in Cleveland, Nashville, etc that were in PRISTINE condition). This one wasn't terrible or dirty - it just wasn't the best one I've been to.

It's cheap and across the street from an IN-N-Out =D I'd stay here again.

I booked thru Priceline's Name Your Own Price service and it was a fine hotel. A no frills place that needs updating but it appeared clean and had kitchen facilities. There was a water stain on the ceiling, a hole in the comforter, and the TV didn't get many channels. It's about 10 minutes from downtown Santa Barbara so pretty convenient. There's an In-N-Out across the street and a couple of gas stations nearby but that's about it. The entrance isn't well marked and the desk is not staffed 24/7 (though apparently you can call if you need assistance). They did bill me twice (via Priceline and the hotel) but were quick remedy when I notified them.

I was completely gambling when I booked this hotel. The reviews were mixed. Why the heck is Santa Barbara so expensive!?

I had come to SB for a wedding in June and just needed a spot to change and place my head down to nap before taking the long drive back up North the next day.

It is confusing finding the front desk. It's not apparent. They need a sign that says "office" or something because when I arrived I went to the door that was for hotel guests with keys. I had to go to the way other side to find the entrance. Check in was easy... and we were sent up to our room quickly.

The walls were pretty thin. I heard the next door neighbors tv all night. Checking out was pretty simple as well. I had found a $10 coupon online and was told at checkout it would be applied. However at checkout, the lady didn't apply it. Remember to check your receipt to make sure all charges are accurate. I was lucky I noticed it early and got it refunded.

If I was in the area.. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here for a quick night. It's nothing fancy.. but it's not the dumps either.

Lindsey, the manager at the time I was there, was extremely helpful.  Other people were not as helpful.

The fridge, stove and sink were nice.  If we were staying more than one night, I would have appreciated them more.

We walked to our room and there was a bucket for the dripping AC.  When we walked into the room, there was a rag over the smoke detector and the room reeked of pot.  Perhaps they could have opened the window before we got there.

The bed was the absolute worse thing I've ever slept in.

Stay if you really really need to.

I'm only giving them a three star because the staff was helpful.  We actually didn't wind up staying there, although we had a reservation for two nights.

We were looking for a hotel that allowed dogs, so we booked a room, only to find out that we could only stay in a SMOKING ROOM.   I mean, this is California, where no one smokes, and they could have at least posted it on their website if that is their rule.

So we had to find another hotel for the two nights we were there.  :-(

They did give us a refund, which was nice.

Extended Stay Hotels are not really a full-service hotel, but I wasn't planning for an extended stay anyway, but just for one night only.

I got a job to do the following day at Santa Ynez Peak, and before I left from our Burbank office in the evening, I got to reserved a room in the nearest hotel beforehand.

There were only two choices available that night, either Extended Stay America @ $155, or at Bacara Resort @ $550 for a night.

Since I was using a Corporate Card, I could have gone for the $550 room, but I guess the company would fire me later for profligate spending and financial indiscretion.

Therefore, I took the $155 room at Extended Stay America in Santa Barbara.

When I got there late that night, I found that the place wasn't bad at all, which is only a quarter mile from the Turnpike Road exit on Fwy-101. The room was clean, spacious and the bed was just fine.

It was over a hundred miles drive from Burbank and I was tired, so I just turned on my laptop, brushed my teeth, turned on the TV, shaved, did stretching exercise, checked my e-mail and surfed tv channels, but not necessarily in that order.

The TV was still on when I awaken and realized that I've missed going out for dinner, which was completely forgotten.

Anyway, everything was quite okay with my non-extended stay at Extended Stay America in Santa Barbara...

After reading other reviews its clear to me that there is a big difference in which staff members you interact with.

I got a phone call at 1106a asking me in a rude tone if I needed to stay an extra night, "because checkout was at 11am". The tone of this call could have been delivered in a much more friendly method. I am aware of checkout time, and was leaving momentarily, but this customer was checking out for the last time here.

If you are familiar with Courtyards and Hampton Inns, imagine this hotel a few notches below that. I travel frequently and have had various levels of elite status at many of the major chains, and this hotel is merely a place to stay. Not much more. Sounds like I have high expectations, but I was fairly happy in a $5/night hotel in Thailand.

In Santa Barbara, you have a few options: high end luxury resorts, smaller local boutique hotels, and a few roadside chains. This falls into the later category.

The pros are the kitchen area, with the full size fridge, that can be handy. The location is good if you need to be in Goleta, but its a long ways to downtown SB. Well, relatively long ways...nothing is more than 12 minutes away in SB. :) Price, if booked in advance, hovers around the 100-110 mark, but that's the same as the Motel 6 and Super 8 sometimes. This place is nicer than that.

The signature suite rooms, after having stayed in a basic room, are definitely a step up. But not a big step. Its different flooring, slightly different bed coverings, and newer carpet (you shouldn't have to pay extra to avoid crappy carpeting). Would I pay the extra few bucks to stay in one of these again? Yes. But only because it helps me feel less like I am in a dorm room.

The cons are definitely the staff interaction and the smells around the property. Oh yeah, and the fact that they still use key cards, I have not seen a hotel in the US use one of these in a long time.

I stayed here last May for the weekend of bimmerfest. My fiancé and I stayed in one room with two of our now ex-friends. Might I say i was amazed when we walked in. We couldn't believe there was a full kitchen, stove, fridge, cabinets with cooking utensils and pots. Which really helped out on money, there was a Vons down the street and ended up going grocery shopping for the weekend. I was surprised how clean and nice it was. There were no maids but we didn't mind since we were just there for the weekend.
We had to ask for extra towels as they only gave enough for 2 people. I will def come here again, especially for a short stay. Before we left we did end up making a small hole in the wall from the bathroom door..which they should've had a door stopper for it, but oh well.

This place was pretty disappointing. I booked the "signature suite" thinking it would be a nicer than the standard suit. If it is, I am afraid to see the standard rooms.

First of all, there was a hypodermic needle left on a chair in the room. I am NOT making this up. It was sealed in the medical wrapping and it was probably left by someone with diabetes (I hope), but come on! You might as well leave broken glass in the tub at that point.

Second, the place stunk. I mean smelled very bad. The lobby, the halls, and the room...each getting progressively worse. I was there for 3 nights, and I left the windows open for my stay, so the room smelled ok by the end. I should have charged the hotel a "smell better" fee.

The place looks like a slightly upgraded Motel 6. There was a desk, small eating table and a kitchen, which is really why I booked the room to begin with. The kitchen and the bathroom had foe-wood flooring and the carpet was new (though pretty standard cheap carpet) which is why it is called their "signature suites."

It was conveniently located, just off of 101, and a short drive to downtown. I was working in Goleto, so I needed to be within ear-shot. Otherwise, something downtown would be much better.

Note: You do not get shampoo or any other grooming items other than soap. Housekeeping only comes once a every seven days of stay (or you can pay extra for a cleaning). You can get new towels any time, however.

Bottom line: if you are only staying a short time, stay somewhere else (closer to downtown if posible) and pay for the fridge/microwave. If you are doing an "extended stay" and really want a kitchen so you are not eating out all the time and have to toss the leftovers, you might want to stay here...but bring some Lysol and expect to do some cleaning.

I booked this hotel about a week before Thanksgiving, having had some problems with my reservations at another hotel in the area. We drove down to Santa Barbara for a long weekend getaway and to do a ton of sightseeing. This place, for the price and location really can't be beat. Sure you can stay somewhere fancier but this place is no frills and does the job.
I found the front desk staff to be friendly and helpful. They pointed out routes for jogging and walking that were safe and well maintained near the hotel. We were able to get to a variety of locations in SB very quickly and easily-State Street, Botanical Gardens, the Pier and Mission without any problems.
It wasn't super new or have fancy rooms-but for the cost it was perfect. We weren't there to sit around in a swanky hotel-it was a comfortable, clean place to rest our heads at night and run around sightseeing during the day.
Would stay here again. Warning though-if you DON'T like pets, you may want to avoid this place since it allows cats and dogs. I didn't mind it but there was some barking and some messes on the grounds you have to try and not step on.

Have to say I disagree with the other reviews posted here. Yes, the Extended Stay America in Goleta is a big, anonymous chain. What else did you expect for $80/night? The rooms are pretty standard, although having a big fridge and a two-burner electric stove top (cabinets too) helped us save money on food. There's a Von's right down the street with a huge wine selection, so be sure to bring your own bottle opener. In-room internet is available for a 1-time fee of $5 (make sure you pick the weekly, rather than monthly, option when you sign in the first time). The only other major con I can cite is the propensity for cigarette smoke to work its way through the vents of the building, even in the nonsmoking rooms. Oh, and housekeeping doesn't come every day, which is a shame.
Now the plusses: I have NEVER stayed in a hotel with staff members who were so completely accomodating and friendly (and we've stayed in a LOT of hotels). My husband and I were in town for 9 days - with our cats - and no matter what I requested, I got it. Recommendations for food, pedicures, hiking, sightseeing - printed out and annotated. A free upgrade to a better room when our first one smelled like cigarettes and the second wasn't clean enough. I've even gotten them to give me a 3-hour delay in checkout so my cats don't have to spend 3 extra hours in their carriers on the way home.
When I come back to Santa Barbara (without the cats), will I stay here? Probably not, since I'd prefer a place with a bit more character. But considering our needs, I'm completely satisfied with our experience here.
