Extended Stay America is THE hotel to stay in if you are in downtown Austin...it's best for locals who need a staycation and want to stay in downtown Austin for the weekend. While it may not be the Sheraton or the Hilton, why waste your money on these expensive room rates when you know most of your time will be out at the bars and clubs...you'll be so tipsy or drunk, all you care about at the end of the night is a bed to sleep on!
PLUSES:
* Location, location, location
* FREE parking (vs. twenty-something dollars a day valet or self parking at other hotels!)
* They have mini kitchens to include microwave, stove, and fridge/freezer
* They use these hole punched hotel room keys rather than magnetic strip...since they never get demagnetized, you can place them in your wallets and know you will get in your room without the risk of having it demagnetized and going all the way to the front desk for another key
CONS:
* No room service on the weekends
* No fitness center or pool
Other than those CONS, the PLUSES make up for it. I don't mind pampering myself and getting a room at the Sheraton or Hilton or Intercontinental now and then but if you're in a party mood and not going to spend much time in your hotel room anyways and need a place to just change, shower, and sleep, this place is the way to go! And from the looks of it, reserve way ahead of time cause ESA fills up quickly esp during the weekends!
Thanks ESA! -

Of all the hotels I've stayed in, it's one if them.. Not a lot of charm or panache but it has a bed.. Tv.. Fridge and a bathroom. And it is clean.
The walls are thin, but, the price is right, I still had a great nights sleep. It has a great location.
The front desk staff has been freindlly, though somewhat confused
It's all that and has an site laundry room

The location is awesome! Best value in town.
I stayed here a few days back in '06 and upon checking in the guys at the front desk asked if I'd been to Austin before. I said no and they loaded me up with helpful maps and their personal recs. They said I would have a blast. Well, it turns out they were right. I walked to town lake in the morning and did 6th st. at night. I ended up moving to Austin a month later. -

If you're bringing everything from home: towels, hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, soap, pillows, blankets--this might be the place for you! Because its an "extended stay" place where they expect you're a business professional planning on staying for a week or more they save money by cutting back on housekeeping and avoid supplying customers with things like towels, hair dryers, etc. You would think that this would make the place a little cheaper to stay at than others, but it doesn't. Prices are comparable to other hotels that actually supply you the aforementioned amenities and then some. Don't worry, you can have access to a dryer if you like, but for a small fee.
The rooms themselves aren't that bad. They're very clean, well kept, and the decor isn't unappealing. Each room has a kitchen as well, so if you really want you can cook yourself some dinner, even bake cookies! Even so, I don't know if the amount of money you would save cooking food in your room actually offsets the extra cost you are paying for the room itself. It may actually be cheaper to stay at a regular hotel and just eat out!
Either way, its not a bad place to stay, but certainly would not be my first choice. -

We've stayed a couple of times, and we also installed our daughter here for 3 weeks while she did some research at UT in January of her senior year. The best thing this place has going for it is the location.
On west 6th, walking distance to some cool places on 4th (The Ginger Man!). It's also next door to Bess Bistro (meh!), for people who like that place.
They DO take pets, which is a big plus. My Golden loved going for 2 hour walks in the morning down 6th to wherever we ended up.
Rooms are OK, geared toward people who'll be staying for a while. They have a very basic kitchen, with utensils.
The down side: twice while staying there we've been awakened by drunken idiots in the hallways at 3 am. The staff are quick to shut them up when we complained, but the rooms are far from sound proof.
I'll say this: the staff are very friendly and helpful, and TWICE they haven't charged us the $75.00 pet fee, which is pretty cool. AND they let me stash my mountain bike in the storeroom. -

We got a room on priceline. We got there Sat night. Requested a queen bed and wanted to upgrade to a double bed non-smoking. We got a bed and a tabacco smoke filled room. Smeeled like a bar. We had to stay in that room for the night because they had no other rooms. The next morning we a a new room non-smoking from a new front desk lady. when we came back from the event we were there for the lady who had checked us in the first night had saved us a double bed non-smoking. We had to switch rooms three times in 3 days, but you know what they say third times a charm. the window faced 6th st and guadaluoe St. We could hear all the partying , but it's Austin you can't ccomplain. The room had a small kitchnet. two burners, sink, sink towels, two pans with lids, 3-4 plates and bowels, coffe maker, and toaster. i wish it had an oven, but again you get what you pay for. Olga and Lesley are very nice front desk people. always smiled when we came in. The hotel overall is in a very good location. it is also right next door to Sandra Bullocks resturant Bess Bistro. Didn't geta chance to go eat there though.
