I think the clothes here have definitely gone downhill in quality and style over the years. I have stuff from a couple of years ago and they hold up really well. Now, they've definitely been cutting corners. The suits aren't done in a flattering cut. The stuff is great if you have those random coupons, but seriously. 25 dollars off of your next 50 dollar purchase if you buy more than 75 dollars today? That's not much of a discount! For business wear... you're better off going down to United Colors of Benetton. At least the suits there are made in Italy.

I love Express! The have the BEST pants for work. They fit perfect and are a classic style (the normal Editor style)! I have had a couple of pairs for at least 5 years. I do like to go at the change of each season to get a new pair in a fun print! I just got a pair last week that are a charcoal grey with a aqua pin stripe. I also love their sweaters each winter and usually buy multiples in many colors - again...great for work. Some of their other clothes are was too trendy and a bit trashy. I usually can find a coupon online so I never pay full price.

I've been shopping at Express stores for at least 10 years since I was in high school whether it be in Riverside, Orange or SD county. The work clothes such as dress shirts or blouses, pants, jeans seem to fit quite well & despite the years of washing them, most of them are in good shape! However, I've noticed lately some of their work clothes nowadays the quality isn't as good as it used to be years ago. This is why I'm starting to buy more dress shirts, work tops from JCrew instead. However, for more casual clothes, this place is pretty good.

When I think of clothes that have alittle more color or edge for work clothes or just for going out clothes I come here. When they have a sale it's a really good deal.  They some how know how to advertise & keep customers coming back with such as 25% or $25 off 100 next purchase, etc. I also own an Express card for years so that I know ahead of time when sales or new fashion items are coming out. The only thing is that the Express store in UTC mall is hard to find my size since it's a college town area, so I would have more luck in La Jolla location perhaps is what one sales person told me.

Last Monday... on a VERY rainy San Diego day while the rest of the city hid inside from the torrential downpour I braved the raindrops and headed to the Fashion Valley Mall in search of a cute new shirt for a job interview I had on Tuesday.  Store after store, ducking in and out of the rain... I finally found myself wet and frustrated - and at my last resort - Express.  (**Disclaimer... I usually love Express, it's not normally my last resort but that day, it was the last stop on my route.)

After spending a few minutes wandering around the store aimlessly wandering because I had convinced myself I was not going to find what I was looking for... I headed in to the dressing room in hopes of finding something passable.  Dina, the sweet girl handling the  dressing rooms engaged me in conversation... asking me if there was something specific she could help me find.  After describing what I was looking for... she disappeared for a few minutes.  Discouraged, I began to give up on the options I already had, and was contemplating putting my own clothes back on when she re-appeared.... with THE PERFECT solution to my clothing conflict.  Not only was she was patient, sweet, encouraging and the most helpful person I have come across in a clothing store in a long time... but she listened to what I was looking for, and made an even better version of my idea materialize!

End result - I got the job!   (Thanks Dina!)
