Stop.
Smell.
Repeat.
P.S. No pooping pups allowed. (it would probably spoil the scent)

After visiting the CaliforniaScienCenter a walk through the park, or in this case the Rose Garden. It has a little of a European feel, the roses, fountain and a Church Tower in the back ground. For a minute it felt like I was back home.
However, it came back to me that I was in LA, cause a handful of lady's were walking around with strollers filled with their merchandize, calling out their items for sale. Families in the fountain, swimming, bathing and cooling down on a July afternoon. Hey, look there a princes, wearing a white wedding dress. People were taking advantage of this little, but beautiful garden, enjoying their day.
All this did not spoil our experience, it's LA and not Europe and for the City of Angels this is an oasis in the Inner-city. A nice place to relax and stay away from the Concrete Jungle and it's 'animals'.
The preponderance of little munchkins running around here made it a little more noisy than I would have liked but the garden is just too beautiful, well laid out and well taken care of to give less than 5 stars. Even on a scorcher of an afternoon this place is worth walking through and taking the time appreciate the myriad of roses on display and see how different they all are.
Make sure to find the Rainbow Sorbet, which has a beautiful array of color on each single rose and wonderfully frilly, full petals. The nicest part of the landscaping is the surrounding trees that frame the garden and separate it from the surrounding museum complex. They are lush enough to provide shade around the garden periphery and keep it from looking too prim.
Finally, the central fountain is a perfect place to cool off, feeling the specks of mist that are cast off. There you have a spectacular background of the gorgeous LA County Historical and Art Museum and should feel refreshed enough to brave the many nearby child infested attractions.

I came here to see the California Science Center & had no idea- none- that this almost unbelievable rose garden was directly adjacent to the CSC & is also free. I'm not really into roses, or even gardens all that much, but when I saw thousands & thousands of roses all in bloom- well, it kinda took my breath away. I guess the place has been there since the early 20th century. When I went walking around the endless paths in the garden, the old TV show "Fantasy Island" popped into my mind. It is literally that cool.
It hits you the moment you cross into the garden - almost a change in weather. There's a humid feeling, the air is a little heavier.
Your eyes take in the beauty - to the left, to the right, roses of all different colors and sizes are blooming like crazy. The fountain in the center of the garden is sparkling and you can even feel a bit of spray hit you (if the wind is right) as you start to descend into the garden.
Then your nose is assaulted. Surprisingly not with an overwhelming sweet rose smell, somehow all of these flowers have mingled together and created an intoxicating scent.
As you walk among the wide pathways you notice how many varieties of one flower there can be - here is one growing like a low bush, tinged in red called "Cherry Parfait"; here is one that almost climbs like a vine with a gaudy pink color, it could only be called "Fame".
If your feet become tired or you want to rest there are many places to sit and just breathe, gazebos and villas filled with statuary as well as large oak tress lining the garden to shade yourself under. Stop and smell the flowers, look at them, take in the beauty of a rose.
You find yourself smiling, even becoming a bit romantic in your thoughts - oh look, there's a couple that has thought to bring a blanket and lay in the sun among the roses (smart ones) - and as you exit the garden it's as if you are leaving your very own romance novel, and
*poof*
just like that
- you are back in loud, crazy LA.

This place is just beautiful!
I visited on a Sunday morning right at opening time, 8:30AM. It truly was an oasis of peacefulness in the middle of the urban landscape. I had fun noting the names of the various species of roses and smiled when I noticed that one was named Julia Child. Also, I'd never seen a bird chase a squirrel before but it was quite comical! I had such a pleasant time that I was back again the next morning.
This place is really, really freeway close to just about anywhere in the city. The official parking lot is six bucks but I recommend that you just arrive early and you'll find plenty of street parking. The most convenient place to park is right near the entrance on Exposition Blvd. Please note that the park is closed January 1st to March 15th.

Just south of Downtown LA in Exposition Park and in the midst of continually growing urban crawl, you can step back into a magical era of LA history and take time to smell the roses. Founded as a Rose Garden in 1926, it is known to many as an "urban oasis." A great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of LA traffic and life, the Exposition Rose Garden is a real gem of the city. You'll often find couples, families, and school children in the garden, on especially beautiful and sunny summer days.
After many years, I have rediscovered this refuge and retreat within the heart of the city. Often, I find myself walking barefoot on the grass along the garden paths, soaking in the sunshine, or watching the gulls wade in the water fountain.

the museums and rose garden are beautiful
What can I say: I have a soft spot for public spaces and this is another LA classic. Exquisite rose gardens in South Central bloom every Spring and they're just around the corner.
I love walking through the garden after a particularly intense day of grad. school-naval gazing-theory-centric yah yahs. Construction of gender or smell the roses, what a hard choice that is!!!!
a beautiful bride in a garden full of roses. my friend was married in the rose garden and it was one of the most beautiful ceremonies i have ever attended. (i think it's tied with a ceremony at the pool deck at shutters in santa monica).
the surroundings are perfect, fragrant, and the only other adornments necessary was a simple canopy with silk and roses to cover the couple. they thought of everything and provided parasols and fans to provide relief from the sun. (which i would highly recommend if you ever plan an event here). they also had refreshments set up in a nearby gazebo--horchata, agua frescas, and sweets.
it was such a beautiful wedding, on such a beautiful day.
my only rec for guests: DO NOT wear your 4 inch heels. wear cute flip flops and change into the heels for reception time. not only did i aerate the lawn of the garden, but i got stuck a couple of times. lol.
