As a devoted Range Rover owner born and bred in Chicago, this is truly a great Chicago business. My family and I (my wife and two young daughters) now live in California and we had the opportunity to drive to Chicago from the SF Bay area to urgently check on an elderly parent. Well the trip didn't go as well as we would have liked. About 10 (ten) hours into the drive, near Salt Lake City, our EAS (electronic air suspension) went out! Then, we had this strange fuse 15 error, which in addition to the roller coaster ride with the suspension, the rear speakers are not working and the rear latch would not open and we were loaded down. For a track that I never had any trouble with , the stress of needing to tend to an elderly parent, taking my wife and daughters on a cross country jaunt.
So I called Mike at Exotic Car Enterprises from the road.
I explained all the problems from the road and he was calm and confident. He stated "bring it in and lets take a look". He diagnosed my problems , and a few more :). He always recommended, not pushy, but gave me the straight facts. He had my truck done in two days flat, making sure I wasn't incurring any additional rent a car expenses. I was prepared for a week-week and a half. It was amazing. Now I'm sitting at my computer safely back in California with my truck in hand. If you have and Range Rover needs I recommend you call Exotic Car Enterprises.
Thanks a million Mike!! -

Exotic is a tiny little repair shop that specializes in Land Rovers, especially the kind that were actually made by Land Rover and not by Ford. Really, the only bad thing I can say about this place is that it's so small that when they're busy working on someone else's car, they may be too busy to get to yours.
Aside from that, they're great. The guy I've dealt with, Ricardo (who may or may not be the owner), knows these trucks backwards and forwards. He'll be happy to tell you about why taking your car to a dealer for service is a mistake and he'll tell you about all the ridiculous things that can go wrong with your car, using some other miserable soul's vehicle as a visual aid.
Appointments work on the time-honored "leave your car with us and we'll call you when we've had a chance to get to it" principle. Because of that, I haven't had the opportunity to have much of my car's service done at Exotic... yet. But I'm glad I found them and I plan to start using them more often, as I've found them to be knowledgeable, friendly, competent and most importantly.... honest (the magic word when you're looking for a mechanic).
EDIT 6/5/08: For the last two weeks, I haven't been able to reach Ricardo when I call, and from the excuses I've been given, I think he may not be working there anymore. I'm not really all that into the other people over there, so I went looking for a new mechanic, and I've found a great one! Check out Lakeside International Auto. http://www.yelp.com/bi... -

I moved here from CT with my 1995 Range Rover. Mike and the crew came highly recommended from my CT mechanics. When I heard a terrible knock from the engine, I thought it was over. Turns out it was the water pump - phew. Unfortunately, a drunk driver flipped a mini-van off of the rear corner of the truck while it was parked...and although they said they could fix it, it was showing its age as well. I decided to have it totalled. Because I was so happy with Mike's and Rico's knowledge, skill and courtesy, I decided to buy another Rover despite high gas prices (and heck - I walk to work). They work on Rovers, but also Porsches, BMWs, etc...
They are great guys with a passion for these cars. Highly recommended. -

I bought a used '95 Range Rover LWB 10 years ago, and have known and done business with Michael Partalis at Exotic ever since. Mike, Ricardo and the crew at Exotic have taken great care of my Rover whether for normal service, body work, air suspension conversion, or assorted parts for over 100,000 miles.
Over the years, I've had scheduled and unscheduled visits to Exotic Car and have always been treated as a friend -- and no matter whether my Rover needed major or minor attention, I always leave a very happy customer.1 Previous Review: Show all »
