Very easy to locate, quiet area, beautiful lake, decent room.. prices are a bit high for a standard room, but it does include free wifi and breakfast! The beds are uncomfortable, pretty firm.. almost like sleeping on the floor.
Check out the Jack London Square i discovered driving nearby! Its like Pier 39, but smaller.. and nicer looking.
Pretty bad, folks. I mean, the pictures make it look like a Courtyard equivalent, but it's more like a Howard Johnson's. The neighborhood is both scary and dirty, other than the water behind it. The service is generally cold and WAY understaffed.
I put up my relatives here, and after specifically asking for a wheelchair access room during the reservation, I was told when I showed up to pay an extra $25. Extortion? Nah, but lame, yes. And the rooms are REALLY LOUD because it's right across a tiny street from the ever so calm 880 freeway.
Scary, old, loud, dirty and understaffed. Here's my suggested tagline for this motel:
"Executive Inn & Suites of Oakland... better than sleeping in your car!"
Great location (easy to find), plenty of parking spaces, spacious rooms. Down the block there is a Starbucks and Quiznos-both have great service. Continental breakfast was great (6-10am). They offered DIY waffles, cereal, milk, coffee, tea, orange juice, hot cocoa, pastries, muffins, bagels + cream cheese. The dining area was also spacious though I took my food to my room.
I paid 110.76 for a City View Standard Room. Upon check in they offer an upgrade to the Bay View for 15-20 dollars. I declined, though I sort of regret it now. I walked by the water the next day and it was very pretty and did not have nasty water smell.
I took one star away for mattress quality. I had a difficult time falling asleep and I wasn't very comfortable. However, they did have the CLEANEST bed sheets I've ever seen in a hotel!!!!
This was actually a nice hotel. Probably the nicest view in Oakland if you are on the water side. The room was really clean, no complaints at all. Loved the bathroom!
Very reasonably priced if you are a AAA customer... I paid $109.00 total for a Saturday night on the bottom floor on the water side. My balcony went right to the grassy area next to the water.
I've stayed here twice. Once, facing the water, the second time facing the freeway (they call it "city view"). What a difference! The water view is absolutely beautiful, calm, serene. The city view is loud....not far at all from the freeway. It isn't bad though, if you are being price conscious. I slept fine.
The service here is great too. Nice little happy hour with appetizers, etc. Front desk staff is great. The price is good as well...especially if you get a water view room.
The only gripe I have really is that the front doors don't open automatically. This has been a problem both times I stay, as I am lugging my briefcase, my suitcase, and my purse...and having to prop open the door without dropping anything is a complete joke. Maybe one day that I'll have doorman that holds it open for me. That'd be nice.
This is a decent getaway spot, whether you're a business traveler or a local burned-out mom. The hotel features waterfront views, private balconies, and a hotel bar downstairs (only open on weeknights). They also offer free parking, high-speed cable internet, and continental breakfast (which I slept through). My room was clean and quiet, and just what I needed.
I was very impressed by this hotel! NO COMPLAINTS!
Great location - right off the 880 freeway. (Visible from the freeway...)
We were able to check in early without a problem since our flight was early. The front desk attendant that helped us was a bit flustered trying to take care of us as well as the guests checking out.
We got a suite that actually looked like the pictures online promised. The bed and pillows were comfortable. There was no weird smell in the rooms. Nice waterfront view from the balcony. The remote for the tv didn't work so we called front desk and someone was there to fix it in literally 2 minutes.
Complimentary water, robes and slippers! Perfect! There was a bath tub and adjacent shower. Very spacious. I was surprised that there was a fridge & a microwave...and a phone in the toilet room! (Better amenities than a lot of vegas hotels!)
It was nice having an extra chair, bench, and couch for our friends who came to visit.
Awesome continental breakfast! Make your own waffles (yum!), bagels & cream cheese, boiled eggs, cereal. Free juices in bottles & milk cartons.
Awesome place to stay. Good location - close to freeway. Shuttle to airport. Friendly staff. FREE WIFI & use of internet at the business center!!!
AAA rates this place as a 3-diamond motel, but I rate it 4-stars. I stayed here the night before my wedding last month and I have to say that I was pretty happy with my accommodations, especially considering the price (~$100-$120 per night for rooms, ~$125-$140 per night for suites). The motel is three stories tall with interior corridors and rooms facing either the water (the Oakland estuary) or the freeway and rail yard ("city view" as they call it). While I can't speak to the "city view" rooms because I was on the water side, I would think that they'd be a bit noisy given that they face the freeway, and they certainly don't give you much of a view. However, the water view rooms are only about $20 more and are very nice and quiet (see my photo for a look at the view from my room). The interior appointments are pretty much your standard nicer-motel stuff but they lack an enclosed closet in the regular rooms. The suites are located in the western building and are newer and according to my parents quite nice (I didn't go inside their room to see). The lobby areas in both buildings are quite nice, especially in the suites building, and they serve a free continental breakfast in the mornings (of course what motel other than Motel 6 doesn't nowadays?). The motel isn't really within walking distance of much of anything except for Quinn's Lighthouse (see my review) which is about 1/3 of a mile away, but they do offer a free shuttle to nearby Jack London Square (you can also of course drive, as my family did, because it's close by). Downtown Oakland isn't far away either. For a region that seems to be sorely lacking in nice motels, I'd say that the Executive Inn is a fairly good choice if you or someone you know needs someplace to stay in the East Bay, and you don't want them at your house.
