Executive Boxing is a premier gym at a very affordable price.  I've enjoyed working out here for the last couple of years and Sammy puts you through some great workouts for any fitness level.  It's a great change of pace that really challenges you.

This is not a boxing gym. You will not learn how to box.You will not learn proper form or footwork. You will not learn how to fight.

If you take the classes and think you are a boxer, you will be unpleasantly surprised should you ever test out your new label.

It is a reasonable place if you work or live downtown, and if you are in poor shape and require someone to yell at you while you skip rope and do crunches. It is part of the growing industry of sports crossover workouts.

Do not, however, consider this boxing.

I'm only giving it 3 stars due to customer service.  Otherwise, the workout was a 4.  I bought 4 classes for $40 on Buywithme.   I called to schedule the class an instructed on their website.  I called on a Monday and wanted to take the Thursday class.  I was advised that I could come, but the guy had informed me that next time I should call the day before or the day of to schedule a class.  Seriously? It's 2011. They couldn't invest in that online scheduling thing everything other small gym has? He also gave me guff about using my certificate (set to expire next week) as he made a comment about how everyone else is doing that too.  You're a business, if you're going to sell of bunch of certificates expect people to use them when they want, even if it will expire NEXT week.

The gym was straight out of a movie (think The Town).   The workout itself was very challenging.  We jumped rope, did jumping jacks, puch-ups, burpees and ran up and down 7 flights of stairs.  Then I boxed for the seond half of the class with real boxing gloves (yay).  The instructor was very accommodating since I had never box before. He gave me good pointers to improve my stance.  We ran 3 laps around the gym and ended with abs.  I was sore for the next 2 days.  I plan on using my last 3 classes, but I don't know if I'd want to come back after that.  The customer service or lack there-of was off-putting and I'm not sure I could box for awhile, I mean I don't expect to be the next Ali, Ijust want a good workout.

I was advised to wear long pants and a long sleeved shirt.  Good luck. I was really hot.  The "air conditioner" does not work.

I thought of trying boxing as a form of exercise to try to find something enjoyable. Let me preface by saying I am in my mid 50's and overweight. I had contacted Executive Boxing with many other boxing establishments to find the place that best offered what worked best for me. From all sounds Executive Boxing seemed to have that need fulfillment.

I started off with a private lesson at $75 and was exhausted beyond belief. It was definitely a workout, much more than I expected. I had talked with the trainer about signing up for the bulk package which included another private lesson and 10 group classes. Prior to making the investment I wanted to observe a group class which I would assume it had people at different levels of knowledge. I called to ask if I could observe a class just to see how the interaction was between the trainer and the members who were attending, I was spoke to in a tone that did not exude any customer service skills wanting to encourage business (except for a large investment). I was told, I was so out of shape (like I didn't already know this, thus the reason for taking up the training), I would never be able to keep up with the group classes because I would get too winded during the workout because all I wanted to do was rest between exercises. This then tells me group classes do not welcome or have time for beginners. Do they expect all new members to be 18 year old high school jocks? I was then told I should make an investment in my future and health and just bite the bullet and sign up for a package deal of 10 private lessons at $75 each. Interesting there is no discount when buying into this bulk package. The one reason I wanted to observe was to see if I could even keep up. I already know I am out of shape. The communication could have been so much more diplomatic with signs of customer service. Maybe, "sure, you can observe a class, and then we can speak afterword to talk about your needs and what we can offer." I think every new potential member needs to be treated for who they are, not that 18 year old jock with established boxing knowledge, but a middle aged, overweight person trying to better himself without a $750 investment.

It is ABSURD this place has any good reviews at all.  They should pay me money for the time I wasted there today!

I bought a groupon-like deal for four sessions.  Upon arriving,  I had to keep approaching the only guy there, I guess the 'instructor' to find out how to sign up, where I could change, etc... he just ignored me as I walked in!  This was a preview of what was to come, go to executive boxing if you want to:

-Be in a 'class' where the instructor ignores you the whole time... none of us had any idea what we were supposed to do!
    -Run in a filthy stairwell
-Wear long sleeves in a non-airconditioned, 7th floor room
-Not do boxing, do more like a boot camp
    -Pay a lot
-And to reiterate, BE SOMEWHERE WHERE THEY IGNORE THE CLASS.  It was absurd, I talked to another classmate who'd been before and she said they never know what to do!

I've already requested my money back.  Avoid!

Executive Boxing (EB) is the place that got me hooked on boxing.  Ever since I first hit that heavy bag, I was hooked.  The location is convenient and the work out is intense.  It is a classical boxer's workout, with jumping rope, stairs, pushups, crunches, planks, hitting the heavy bag and more.  You get pushed hard.  It is a very good conditioning/cardio workout.

The only thing I didn't like is that after a while, I wanted to get more technical and expand from just the conditioning class.  I wanted to figure out how to better improve the mechanics of my punches and how to properly execute them, how to better block , and how use the speed bag among other things.  I was told that to do this, I would have to purchase 1 on 1 classes, but at a rate of $75 per hours, I thought it was a bit too much.  I also didn't like the fact that instructor once came over to me once during a workout and told me in so many words, that I was one of the worst technical boxers he has ever seen.  I replied that that is part of the reason I was there (to better improve), to which he responded that I needed some 1 on 1 sessions.  I didn't know if he was being honest, or just trying to get me to buy some 1 on 1 sessions, but his approach just completely turned me off to this gym and I started to look around at other gyms.

I did my homework and looked into 4 other boxing gyms as well as 2 martial arts gyms.  I finally settled on a place that offers different levels of boxing classes: boxing fundamentals (to work on the basics mechanics of how to throw punches), boxing basics (to work on basics, like ducking, slipping, blocking, and footwork), regular boxing (to work on conditioning and help you to lose weight if that is your goal), advance boxing (I can only imagine what they offer here since I am not ready for that class) and boxing sparing.  All this, and they also offer MMA, Muay Thai, American style kickboxing, Jiu-Jitsu, yoga and kettle bells.  The place wasn't cheap, but I paid for a year membership in cash with my tax refund, which dramatically lowered the price.  Also, I realized that it would actually come out to be less than EB would cost me.  I now do boxing 2 times a week, MMA 2 times a week, Jiu-Jitsu once a week and plan on dropping a boxing class to take up Muay Thai soon.  No way I could get all this at EB.

Don't get me wrong, I liked EB.  There were no contracts to sign and you get a great working.   This place got me hooked on boxing.  However, the fact that the only way for me to expand my skill set after I got a little bored with the conditioning class was to purchase bocks of $75 sessions and their unique sales strategy was a huge turn off.

I believe that the other reviews here are honest.  Hell, I once loved this place too, but after a while I got disappointed with EB.  I would suggest that you give it a try at least once and see how you like it.  Hell, I did that with EB and with 3 other boxing gyms and 2 martial arts gyms.  Just about all of them let you take one free class.  Why settle for the first one you try out without checking out the other?  Especially if they are free to try out.

I tried out a few workouts here and it was a lot of fun. I had never boxed before, but it was a great workout and I would definitely go back if I was still in Chicago. The workout is a good mix of cardio and boxing techniques. Plus it is also fun!

Awesome place. When you walk in you will be wowed at how beautiful the hardwood floors are and how the mirrors show off the place. The owner Sammy is a real good guy and makes you feel like his gym is your home. Full size ring, 8 plus punching bags, speed bags, double end bags, weight sets, treadmill, bicycles, 6 showers in mens, 2 in womens, towel service and amenities. Very convenient location and multiple pricing options and no contracts. Really kick ass workout. Classes or 1 on 1
