I've lived in NYC for 16 years now and moved 17 times. Might seem like I love to move but quite the contrary. Every time before this last one was STRESSFUL!!
This time around, I researched and found these guys(EQM).  On top of being nice, careful & efficient, they were easy on the eyes. This was by far my cheapest & most stress free move ever!
    Note*
Another reason why my move was easy and stress free was also due to me using Juggle boxes(http://juggleboxmovers...).  LOOOOVE them!!
    I'll be reviewing that next!

They showed up three hours late. Refused to use any of our boxes. Took much longer to show up at our destination than we did (also driving)- which ended up costing us more. And the kicker- they damaged our handmade bed (the whole reason we hired movers was for the bed). I would never, ever recommend them. Ever.

Oh, and I hate to say this, but they smelled terrible- I couldn't be in the same room with any of the movers because their body odor was so terrible. Even after they left a room, the smell lingered. We had to open all the windows in our new apartment to air it out after they unloaded.

    Great Job!

My family owns a moving company out west and therefore I'm very skeptical of what "good service" means to people.  I expect the best and since being treated like family by my family is expected, being treated like family by movers who never met me before is above and beyond what I call service.

The team showed up 15 minutes early to walk me through the contract and get the paper work rolling (no charge).  We walked through my apt, reviewed all my boxes, and agreed on all that needed special handling or wrapping (expect this to cost more the more you want done... but that's a given - right?!).

When the clock started at 9am, they wrapped, and moved me out.  Total time to get out - 1 hour. Total time for entire move 2.5 hours. Total stress ZERO!

Thanks and I would recommend them to anyone!

I've been joking with my wife since we moved that we should move again, even before we're ready to leave the new place, just to use these movers. They were incredibly efficient, careful, and quick without hurrying.

We used these movers twice in a period of about a month: first to move from an apartment into storage, then from the storage center to a new apartment. On both occasions, the movers arrived early and went right at it.

Without putting too fine a point on it, let me say this about EQ Movers: I'm not sure there's any NYC business--restaurant, locksmith, museum, you name it--that I'd recommend with less equivocation.

I loved these guys!  We booked a three-man crew to move us from two apartments (one in Harlem, one in Astoria) to one (also in Astoria), and they were quick, professional, and CHEAP.  Based on the Yelp reviews and the ridiculously low price quote, I was excited to hire them (but a little nervous, as with all moving companies, about how timely and careful they would be with my stuff).

The guys were great: very fast, very friendly, and not a rip or a dent in any of our stuff.  Their price, even with some extra packing materials and tolls, was still better than the basic quote given to me by at least three other companies.  And they moved both of our places into the new one in under three hours.  It was amazing.  I'll definitely be calling them again for my next move.

    I love them!  Here's why:

    1) They were able to fit me in 3 days before my move (i moved on the last day of the month, Friday 9/30)

    2) 4 guys moved me out of my 5th floor elevator into my 5th floor walk-up; There was no complaining; to the contrary, they were funny, polite & genuinely caring.  Alex came in and assessed everything before they went to it and packed up the truck faster than i've ever witnessed.

    3) Last minute move, so i wasn't well packed -- they were incredibly careful w/my things.  Mirrors & framed pieces were boxed and wrapped, wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes, all furniture well wrapped; mattress wrapped.

    4) Not one single thing was damaged.

    5) Pricing was extremely reasonable.   i purchased boxes & wrapped for special/fragile items also.  You pay an hourly flat rate.

    6) Oh, and they did all of this w/in the 3 hour minimum window!  Yes, they moved me from a 1 bedroom in an elevator building, to a 1 bedroom 5th floor walkup in 3 HOURS!

I've used several movers in the past, but will use these guys again for my next move, as they are truly professionals!  Incredibly quick and very careful of your belongings.

The communication from start to finish was excellent -- no hidden costs and they are very thorough at letting you know if anything will cost extra (boxes/wrapping/etc).

No extra charge for credit card payment.  Tip them in cash.

These guys were great fast and reliable didnt lounge around and just do it whenever. we booked it for 6 hours they did it 4.5 including moving from Brooklyn to Queens.  They did show up on time and was very efficient wrapping my TV and the mattress and boxspring.  THe price was great too so much more less than what other companies were charging based on what my wife and I were calling.  Otherwise I would def have them move my stuff again cause it was def an awesome move I cant say more about the quickness and efficiency.
The only reasons I didint give them full stars is yes when you give them tips ($40/pp) they seemed kinda pissed and such.  Also I opened up a box full of mugs some wer broken so I dont know if they were packed right by us or they didnt follow the fragile label on the box.

I used EQ Movers this past weekend and they were simply amazing!  Alex and his team of 3 were SUPER efficient, professional, extremely polite, and helpful in every respect.  They were just excellent.  As an example, upon arrival to the new apartment, we found workers still waxing the floors and didn't want us in.  Alex and team could have simply dumped the furniture and left, but instead we worked out a plan where they came later in the day to unpack and refurnish.  They were flexible and really went out of their way to make me happy.  Even the unpacking process was efficient and pleasant for me.  They stayed within their estimated time of completion.

At the end of the day I was impressed with their work and I'll recommend them to anyone who needs moving service going forward.  I'm sure I'll use the team again!

Thanks for making my move headache-free, and efficient!

The best experience with movers I have had. The team that helped me move was fast, efficient, professional, polite. I was really impressed and I would use them again. I highly recommend their services.

Their prices are competitive. I was worried with paying them by the hour but they didn't slow down in any way. I was late getting to the destination and when I got there, they had emptied the truck and were ready to move everything in.

They definitely took away the stress of moving through their communication, attention to details and speed.

    great experience!

I had about a billion questions and I was really nervous because I've never hired movers before.  I was always the girl that tricked everyone into helping her lift up a bunch of heavy stuff up 3 flights of stairs.  But Sergei was awesome!  He was really easy to work with over phone/email.  The quote they gave me was also waaay below everyone else I contacted.

Then... moving day.  I've never seen anyone work so fast.  Never again will I move using friends.  No offense to my friends... but these guys knew their shit.  Everything was wrapped professionally and moved very quickly.  I was worried about the timing as I was paying them hourly, but they completed the entire job within 3 hours.  Since they charge a minimum of 3 hours, this was PERFECT!

One gripe:  when I handed over the tip, the mover just took it and walked out the door, no word.  No thanks/have a good day/etc.  Nothing.  I'm all for holding back emotion, but jeeeeez it was a good tip!

One partial gripe:  they lost a huge canvas picture I got from Ikea.  They left it in the elevator of my old building.  It was really cute!  I contacted Sergei and without a moment's hesitation he agreed to cut me a check to replace it.

And that's all it took, the next time I move (hopefully never) i'm using Excellent Quality!

I found Excellent Quality Movers through City Move and chose them for their competitive bid and from other movers' high past ratings, and they lived up to the 5/5 stars.

From the pre-move communications through the end of the move, we couldn't have been more impressed. Excellent Quality Movers lives up to its name -- professional, efficient, honest. And the crew seemed to really enjoy working with each other to boot! They took extra care with our expensive items, and had expertise in assembling and dissembling pieces -- noting when we were missing pieces ahead of time.

We moved from a (very tight) 4th floor walk up in the West Village to Brooklyn Heights.  They brought a 4-man crew and a 24' truck, which made the move very efficient!

They had the insurance required from my coop building, and took care of the paperwork needed in naming the building as additional insured, faxing to management co, etc.  (Charge was about $40.)

We paid cash as indicated was required, and tipped 20% in cash as well.

I would HIGHLY recommend Excellent Quality Movers.

    Absolutely spectacular.

I moved May 15th from a 4th floor to a 3rd floor, and they weren't concerned about the number of flights, number of boxes, etc.

I am in Real Estate, and have an extensive list of people in our database to call for moving services, but looked up "cheap movers nyc" on Google and found these guys.

The prices were scary because they were quoting me 50-70% off what I was hearing from FlatRate Movers and a lot of other "cheap" movers.

The low price made me nervous, but I went ahead with it because all of these reviews were so good.

I packed everything up 100% on my own, and had it all ready to go for them. They took my bed frame apart, and had everything out of my apt in under 30 minutes.

The speed they were going was nerve-wrecking because I was sure they would be breaking/scratching things. This was not true.

They got to my new place, placed everything where I asked, put my bed back together (the wrench I had didn't work last-minute, so I was glad they brought one) and never complained or asked for anything. I offered water/soda twice and they didn't want it. Very gracious, very nice guys. They moved me in under the time I was quoted, and was HAPPY to pay the 2-hour minimum and have them be done early.

    Notes:

-They make you nervous when they tell you you are liable for the payment of any parking ticket they may incur, but they were so fast I can't imagine them getting ticketed. They did not get ticketed during my move.

-Pack everything yourself, and have it ready. They were on-time within 2 minutes of the "earliest time" in my move window. This is where people waste time and money.

-TIP THEM WELL, and pay CASH. Remember, you are saving about 50-70% off the next cheapest movers, and these guys were fast - plus there is an up-charge for paying with Credit Card, and you have to give them notice that you are paying credit.

No scratches, no tickets, nothing broken. I have nothing but good things to say and I have already recommended them to 2 people I found apartments for that are moving June 1.

I'd never hired movers before, and was a bit nervous, but these guys were so nice and efficient I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to everyone I know and will definitely use them again.

When they showed up they were extra friendly, all smiling and greeting me.  As they moved our stuff, they joked and smiled and were generally all a pleasure to be around.  It made such a difference and made our move stress free to have such friendly professionals helping us out.  They got everything done super quickly and we couldn't have done it without them.

Their prices are super affordable (for our move, $75/hour for three guys and a truck, min. 3.5 hours) and they did everything in record time.  It was definitely the cheapest option I found.  Another quote was over twice as much!

Highly, highly recommended.  Thanks to Sergei for making our move pain-free!

Let's start with why they lost 2 stars.

    1. Asking for a tip, and not even very nicely.  Asking for tips is incredibly unprofessional and rude. Especially when it's done with a bit of an attitude. I almost didn't want to give them anything after that! (I still did though, but not $50/each!).

    2. They were friendly for the first half hour but seemed kind of pissed off the rest of the time. To the point where I had some stuff in the kitchen for them to put in the truck but I actually felt like I was bothering them and carried it myself (I had to make 3 more trips back to my apartment to get everything). And the guy gave me crap about my debit card b/c it didn't have raised numbers on it (to make a carbon copy) like I was trying to give him a fake card or something (it was clearly a TD bank card). Maybe it was because it was the last job of the day and they were tired, but I didn't have a ridiculous move. And then you have the nerve to ASK for $50 each for 3 of you?!

Plus they were over 2 hours late and didn't let me know they were taking the stuff to the new place so I was standing around like an idiot for a bit, cleaning before I realized they were no where to be found.

    The good parts:

They were the only ones I could find with an affordable price a week before the end of the month. They were very efficient in wrapping the things I couldn't pack (pillows, lamps, other loose items as well as the couch and mattress). Nothing was broken either, which surprised me considering how they were tossing things around (I don't mean that in a bad way necessarily, they were like machines getting the stuff packed and out). I moved a 1 bedroom from a 6th floor elevator building just 10 blocks down the street to a 2nd floor house (1 flight of stairs). I have a lot of stuff, but I can't imagine it's much more than other 1 bedrooms, nor do I have any crazy heavy furniture. It wasn't raining, just a bit warm b/c it was the end of June, but like I said, they didn't seem very happy.

I've had some horrible moving experiences and was terrified about my move yesterday (2/24/11). I chose EQM because they were recommended to me by a close friend who had just used them to move from Jersey City to Brooklyn. I contacted Sergei via email got a response immediately. Prices were extremely competitive, and they were able to accommodate the date and time I wanted to move.

Movers showed up a few minutes early, they were courteous and quick. They were real professionals because they managed to work around some really tight corners without damaging anything.

The foreman was great, he explained everything to me and was really helpful throughout the move. I absolutely recommend EQM if you're looking for an easy-peasy move with not worries and a great price.

    Thank you EQM!

I used EQ Movers for my move on March 1 after a friend referred me to them. She said they were "cheap and good" and since I received the lowest quote from them -- I figured I'd give them a shot.

I lived in a garden-level apartment in Prospect Heights and asked for a quote for moving into a 4th floor walk-up in Cobble Hill.

For a medium-sized load, John sent me an email quoting "$85/HR from the 2nd -28th of every month, and $105/hr from the 29th - 01st" with a 3-hour minimum and 1/2 hour for a flat travel fee. This would include 3 men and a truck.

While I was confirming my move date, I asked John if he'd honor the $85 rate if I moved on the 1st and paid with cash. Without any hesitation, he said yes and that using a credit card would be fine.

I asked for a 9am move time and a few days later, it was on the books.

On my moving day, the guys were 30 mins. late. I had told my landlord that I was gonna be out by noon, so I was nervous when they weren't on time... but I called John and he confirmed they'd be there soon.

They showed and within 45 minutes, we had my entire apartment packed in the truck. The 3 young men were friendly and even wrapped a mirror for me free of charge. They did charge me for wrapping my box springs in plastic wrap -- $15 I think, (I'd already covered my bed) -- but I was prepared for that cost since I'd asked John about that in advance. I had some black garbage bags full of blankets/sweaters and duffel bags of clothes. The lead guy said that since I was on the 4th floor, it would be faster for them to pack them in two large wardrobe boxes so they could make less trips up/down. It made sense, so I paid $20 for each. Considering we finished the move an hour early, I'm disappointed that  I paid for these, but nevertheless -- the guy doing the paperwork was very upfront about the costs.

One snafu: When I told the guy that I was using a credit card, he told me there'd be a small service fee. I told him that John hadn't mentioned that and he invited me to call John to confirm. I did, and John said it was no problem and waived the fee.

Once the truck was loaded, the guys headed over to the apartment and I followed about 15 mins. later. The guys were waiting out front and we quickly got to work. (I say "we" because I helped. I needed the exercise and felt weird not helping. The guys were really funny about it and I could tell were a little bothered by my helping. Not bothered in a bad way -- but they said most people don't help, and they made sure I didn't overexert myself. Sounds silly writing it out... but it was sweet.)

1.5 hours later and multiple trips up and down to/from my 4th floor apartment, we were done. Although I had 3 hours scheduled (3 hours was the minimum) from start to finish -- it took us only 2 hours.)

I gave the guys a $90 tip ($30/each) and they seemed grateful.
Off they went and all was well. I spent the next few days unpacking and am happy to report that not a single thing was broken or damaged.

    TOTAL COSTS
    85/hr (3 hr min)
43 flat transport fee (1/2 hour)
    40 for boxes/mattress wrap
    90 tip
    ----------------------
    $428

Not bad for my first NYC move. I'll definitely use EQ movers for my next move and will recommend them to my friends.

I chose excellent quality movers because their price was $60-$100 cheaper than anyone else I called. I scheduled the move about three weeks in advance with someone in the office who was polite and friendly.

On moving day, I was very happy with the service! They were punctual to the minute, the two young men were extremely efficient and fast, but also careful with my stuff and nothing was damaged at all. They wrapped my mattress for me (and told me no mattresses are ever allowed in their trucks without wrapping!) and the entire job was done in less than two hours.

There is a 3 hour minimum, but that seems to be standard with all local moving companies.

We moved on 5/26/11, and got a special discounted rate for moving before the "end of the month," which saved s $10 per hour. The guys were half an hour early (they called to make sure that was okay, and we were thrilled to get started!), and were very professional. They did an efficient job. My only complaint is that we paid them to wrap our mattress, and the siran wrap they used tore. Rust from the truck stained one corner of the mattress. It wouldn't be a big deal, except that it voided our warranty on it, so that kind of sucks. We should have gotten a bag for it ahead of time. Oh well. I don't hold it against them. They were by far the cheapest licensed and insured movers I found in extensive searching. They also offered no complaints whatsoever when the elevator broke down on the last trip from the van to the apartment, and shlepped heavy book boxes up 2 flights of stairs.

I would definitely recommend them, and will use them again in the future.

Holy hell are these guys affordable. Found an ad on Craigslist advertising $70/hr for a 3 man crew, as long as you moved off cycle (i.e. in the middle of the month). At that price, I was worried that all my stuff was going to get a) broken or b) stolen, but I was really satisfied with how the move went. Also saving some money was that they only charge 1/2 hour for travel time, most places charge a full hour.

As promised, a 3 man crew showed up right on time for an 8am move, within an hour and a half everything was in the truck and on its way to a new home. Concerning the actual move, a few things to take note of before these guys show up:

-Mattresses must be in a mattress bag/similar plastic covering or they will charge you a fee to wrap them. This is good practice, but my roommate wasn't aware of this so it cost him a few extra bucks

-They won't move anything glass/breakable if it's not packed properly. We had a ratty old glass coffee table I wanted them to move without padding and they refused. I told them I didn't care if it broke but they wouldn't do it. Just covering their own asses in case I tried to pull a 180 on them if it broke, but again, wish I had known that in advance

-Anything small-ish (such as desk chairs, under the bed containers full of clothes, backpacks, vacuums, lamps, ANYTHING - you get the picture) they won't put into the truck individually and insist on packing into "wardrobe boxes" - i.e. big cardboard boxes that cost like $15-18 each. This is part of the reason they lost a star from me. This easily added $100 to my move and I wish they could have let me know their small item policy beforehand - I would've packed everything better to avoid this $100

The other reason they lose a star is that their quote at the end came with a "suggested tip" of $50 per mover. I think this was fair, and I already had $40/person prepared so the extra $10 was not a big deal. The whole "suggested tip" thing in general just annoys me and I don't like to be told how I should pay people.

But overall, these guys were really good. The price aboslutely can't be beat - I had several other moving companies just say "wow, we can't match that" when they called with quotes of $125+/hour. And even though the price was bargain basement, the movers were relatively quick (3.5 hours for a 2 BR apt move), geniunely courteous and a pleasure to work with. Would recommend to others with the advice given above.

Used these guys yesterday to move from Astoria to Glendale.  They showed up 20 mins. early (which I expected from the reviews).  Moved from a 1 bedroom first floor to a 3 bedroom 3rd floor.  They were very quick and took the time to wrap everything in blankets.  Charged $40 to put the TV in bubble wrap and boxes. (I did think that was steep) but it got there safe and sound.  They went over the 3 hour min. by 30 mins, but they moved all the stuff up the three flights of stairs super fast!  Nothin broke or scratched, was very happy with the movers.  $320 plus tip isn't bad for the move.  Would really say use these guys if you are moving!

I completely recommend EQM for your next move. From my initial inquiry to unpacking the last box, I was consistently surprised at how smooth the move went. When I first submitted a request, Sergei was very quick to get back to me. He also answered any questions I had almost immediately.

My move was scheduled for 9:30. The showed up at five minutes after 9:00, which is my only complaint. Early is usually better, but we were trying to pack up a few last things (i.e bathroom stuff, bedding). Based on previous reviews, I was worried about the few small things that still needed to be boxed, but the movers didn't complain.

George & the crew went to work right away and it seemed liked they never stopped moving until it was finished completely. They were done in approximately the time Sergei estimated. The guys were also very courteous and polite.

Some people complained about the extra charges, but I have no complaints. Sergei sent me a price list and explained that there might be extra charges. They charged me $30 each for my TV stand, flat screen TV and large mirror. Personally, I appreciate the extra care and don't mind the cost.

The total move cost me $490. It included 4 1/2 hours of moving, travel time, the packing they provided for special items and $25 for the certificate of insurance required  by my building.

The only thing I didn't really like was that suggested a tip of $50 a piece. I really don't like when people suggest tips. I was going to tip them $35 a piece until they suggested $50. I felt cheap so I gave them what they recommended. If you don't feel pressured by this sort of thing, then don't worry. They probably deserved the higher tip anyway! I also suggest providing water for them, they seemed to appreciate it .

After another moving company crapped out on us the day before our move, we called EQ Movers and were able to get them for a mere two days later.

They showed up early and had our entire apartment emptied in what seemed like no time at all - I have never seen a group of people so efficient at what they do. And even though all our furniture is just cheap second hand stuff, they made sure to wrap everything up in furniture blankets and treat it like it wasn't already covered in scratches and dents.

We barely beat them to our new apartment, and as soon as they arrived they resumed their machine-like hustle to get all our stuff unloaded into the new place and all our furniture unwrapped. They also made sure to ask where we wanted each box and each piece of furniture to go, so we wouldn't have to do any heavy lifting after they left.

They were incredibly efficient and professional, the price they quoted us on the phone was the price we paid, and from when they showed up to our NYC apartment to when they finished unloading us in Philly was just under five hours. AWESOME!

Despite their extremely competitive prices--the best ones I found for the weekend before Sept. 1--this moving company is extremely professional, efficient and helpful. They wrap all furniture and will specially wrap mattresses, mirrors and TVs for a little bit of extra money--charges they will tell you about up-front.

They also run a company that sells moving supplies at very low rates, and offer a 20% discount for people using Excellent Quality Movers. They offer next-day delivery on the supplies so if you don't buy enough in one round, you can quickly get more for the next round.

The only reason I didn't give the company five stars is that the job took two hours longer than was estimated. Granted, I have no doubt I underestimated the amount of "stuff" to be moved by 25-35%, but I still think their time estimates are a little low.

(Oh, and while you can pay by credit card for the move, it's best to have cash for the tips.)

Moving sucks. Everyone knows it - doesn't matter if you're moving to a brighter future or a better adventure, the process blows. For a while, you can bribe an army of friends with beer and pizza, but, at some point, you're going to need professional movers. And in the city, those movers should definitely be EQ.

EQ rocks. From terrific prices to efficient hustle, these guys made our move hassle-free.

We'd gotten quotes from several companies - all well over a grand and out of our budget. EQ offered a flat rate and an hourly rate, and, based on the list of possessions we provided, tried to estimate how long it would take to complete job. John (at the office) advised that time began from the moment the guys arrived, so timing would depend on how well packed and organized we were. (Note: Two chicks with OCD and access to unlimited boxes meant we'd have everything load-ready on move day.) While the flat rate was completely reasonable, we opted for the hourly rate (under $100), gambling on them finishing the job within six hours.

The team - George, Alex, Peter and Roman - showed up a half hour early to snag parking, setup operations and assess the situation. Then the hustle began. And didn't stop until 4 and  1/2 hours later when the job was done. These guys were all business. No smoke breaks. No stretching the job out. We had to insist that they take a small lunch break!

They moved us from a second floor walkup to a fourth floor walkup, from a two bedroom to a three bedroom apt - both in Brooklyn. That included lugging a couch, a china hutch, a dining room table, four chairs, six bookshelves, a bed, a dresser, 2 AC units, a filing cabinet, and about 100 boxes (most of them books) up the most narrow and twisting stairwells in the borough. Everything arrived in perfect condition, and the guys even put furniture and boxes in the rooms we requested.

When George went over the final numbers with us, tallying the hourly rate and travel time, the whole move was right at $450. He non-aggressively advised on the tip amount, and was surprised that we had already budgeted for it. (C'mon, people, if there was ever anyone who deserved a hefty tip, it's a haul-your-shit-across-town-so-you-don't-have-to dude.)

I heart EQ, highly recommend their services, and would definitely use them again!

They did move us again last month and as usual they did a quick job. The entire move from lower manhattan to midtown took about 3 hours. I'm only knocking down a star for 2 reasons:

    1. We had a plastic floor mat that they...left in the truck. I didn't wanna bother trying to call them to drive all the way back so I had to go to staples and buy another one for $40 sigh.

    2. I knew I would be paying extra for a matress bag, because the one I had bought was just a stupid cover rather than a bag. I was NOT however aware that their "matress bag" was just wrapping the matress with plastic wrap. In my eyes, that's not a "bag". Needless to say it came apart in some places when they brought the matress in. No I did not get bed bugs but maybe I just got lucky. If you're gonna charge extra money for a matress bag, fine, but have it be an actual BAG not just plastic wrap. This isn't a plate or a mug :-/

Otherwise they are great movers, and do a quick job for a great price. Next time I'll just try to get my own matress bag and maybe do a check of the truck before I send them on their merry way!

EQ moved us from 2 locations (my work studio and our apartment) to one (apts were 3rd story walkups). They arrived promptly and worked quickly and efficiently. We have a *lot* of stuff and they were totally professional and agreeable about it (plus it was raining!).

They quoted me 90/hr for 4 men and a truck, which is a great price. We bought a few boxes for larger items (tv, etc) and rented a bin, and the entire shebang took about 7 hours. We tipped $80 per man, which given the amount of work these guy did seems totally fair to me (think about moving all your crap yourself and see if an extra 80 bucks doesn't seem like a fair tip). Super pros - they even declined an offer of donuts, but maybe Russians hate donuts. I'll have to research that one.

I would use them again in a heartbeat (but I love our apartment so I hope I don't have to!) and recommend them unreservedly.

Just had my move last night- my boyfriend and I remained impressed with their efficiency. Quick and courteous.  I did remind them a few times re: fragile items but as long as you point it out to them they are fine.

I was VERY happy and will totally use again and refer to friends. Great job, good price!  Thanks guys!

    Dreadful....dreadful....dreadful!

I have been so stressed out since I was moving and wasn't sure who I should hire and yada yada.

I used Yelp and out of all the movers....these movers received the highest rating even though there were only 5 reviews in total but I thought I give them a try.

I packed my stuff neatly in boxes, but I ran out of time since I didn't realize I had so many stuff for one person.

I put the rest of the things in shopping bags, since I had to get everything ready and didn't have time to get more boxes.

I spoke to Demetri and he gave me a quote after I told him I had x amount of boxes and some shopping bags.

He never mentioned anything to me that there would be a problem.

I got three men to help me and they arrived early in the morning.  When they got inside, they advised I have to have things in boxes.

    WDF.

Demetri never told me this and I had over 50 shopping bags worth of stuff.

EEKS!  If I would have known this, I definitely have got the first mover to move all of my NON boxes.

I said F it, I will call someone else to come and pick up the shopping bags.

This dude, saw I had TWO empty boxes and took the liberty to stuff my random things into them.

UMMMM, does he not know I might have things in there that I don't want it to be crushed?

He crushed my Toki Doki Limited Edition Hello Kitty - ughhhhhhhhhhh!

Yes, you heard me HELLO KITTY - me loves her!

Anyways moving on....the guys went downstairs and I am still trying to see what else I have that need to be taken away.  I didn't see any of the guys at all, so I am thinking did they want me to come down or something.

    WDF...
they were over there chilaxing with cigarettes!  Meanwhile, I still got crap loads of stuff!  I am sorry but I am not trying to pay them for them to chill around in their van.

I know I am only one person, but I seriously own a lot of things.

Four hours later, they advised they will meet me at my destination....
I managed to hail a cab and I got there 15 minutes earlier than them.
Dude, did they get lost?  It's not that far of a move, so I don't get why they took so long.

After everything was all done and finished, they asked me to look in their truck to see...but meanwhile it's not like I went inside their truck to do the inspection and it's pointless because HELLO I didn't ride the truck with me to and from.  They could have made a drop off somewhere when I wasn't with them.  To me, it just doesn't make any sense unless I rode in the truck with them and I was able to go inside the truck.

    *sigh*
Perhaps my shelves are still in there!

    BLEH!

They managed to rebuild my wardrobe....which is great since they didn't even need a instruction manual even though they did scuff it up.

I just hate it when my stuff gets ruined!

I called Demetri and he supposedly was going to call me back ASAP regarding the missing shelve...but I have yet to hear from him.

    BLEH!

    Moving sucks!

P.S The owner contacted me and asked me how to resolve the issue.  I told him to replace the stuff that was damaged (Which I later found out there was a lot more than what I discovered that day!) and missing.

Guess what...now this guy Michael is just like Demetri - LOST OF COMMUNICATION!  It's like why contact me to see how to resolve the issue and then don't respond.

BLEH....ONE STAR for LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Sticker shock! They didn't tell me they'll use & charge us for wardrobe boxes to move smaller items. Dimitri gave me an attitude when I asked him why we were charged for boxes if all of our stuff were packed.... At the least, they could have asked in advance (other moving companies supply their own used wardrobe boxes to move smaller items for free).
Also, before the move, they said mattress cover will be provided without charge -- but once they arrive, they changed their tunes -- they would wrap the mattress in cellophane, but covers cost.

Moving is stressful, tiring and expensive. It's worst when you have to deal with rude people. We lived in an elevator building and we were moving to a storage unit... so it's not like they had to hull our stuff up any stairs. So when it came time to pay a tip, he said 15% is mandatory. Why should tipping not be proportionate to effort?  I wonder?

p.s. Once we moved our stuff out of storage... with a different moving company... we were told that EQM did a great job packing our things into a 10x10 storage unit. While I won't take back my previous comments, EQM did a good job... Though not all of the pieces of furniture are wrapped, so a number of pieces are nicked and scratched. So they still get 2 stars.

Wow, am I glad I called these guys! I thought I could do it myself, with my wife and one or two friends, but at the last minute I realized it was going to be more trouble than it was worth. Not least because there were so many screw-ups with the truck rental place I had been working with before.

I got lucky: Excellent Quality was available last minute. I called late Thursday afternoon, and they had three guys and a huge truck at my apartment on Friday morning. They ran a bit late (the appointment was for 9:30, and they arrived around 10:30 or so), but that's to be expected.

The hourly rate was reasonable (I don't recall exactly how much). These guys worked hard and moved fast. Their professional mover's dollies are so much faster to work with than the upright variety you could rent for a DIY move. And the truck is more efficient too, since the door is in the middle of the side and not a roll-up in the back. One guy stayed with the truck, positioning things inside, while the other two loaded dollies and rolled them out to the truck.

I was pretty much all packed and ready to go before they arrived. I had a few odd boxes of dishes left to pack while they moved most of the rest of my things into the truck. They wrapped the odd items that I wasn't able to pack well myself: a table lamp, my microwave, my window A/C, and so on, and they did a good job. Nothing at all broke in the whole move, and there was no damage to anything that I could detect!

The move took forever, something like six or seven hours, but that included unloading everything at my new place too. (See why I'm glad I decided not to do it myself?) They never stopped for lunch. When they first arrived they asked for some bottled water and Red Bull, which I was happy to provide throughout the day.

When it came time to pay, everything was in order and there were no undisclosed charges or other weirdness. The few boxes that they provided me cost less than what I had paid at other places (including buying used boxes online and new boxes at the UPS Store). The crew chief informed me when we were going over the final bill that $150 in tips ($50 each) would be appropriate after nearly a full day of hard work. Seemed appropriate to me. These guys had saved the day for my wife and me.

It was an expensive day. What I thought would cost, oh, $150 to do myself or maybe $400 for professionals, ended up more like $800. But believe me: IT WAS WORTH IT!!

Tip: Don't wait 'til the last minute to make a reservation the way I did. I got lucky. Just call and book it now, and sleep a little easier in the days leading up to your move.

Another tip: Home Depot has much lower prices than anyone else around for medium and large moving boxes.

John V headed over to my place with little advanced notice - walked around my place and in under 20 minutes told me exactly how long the move would take, the complexity, the amount of suppliers and gave me a great price.  2 weeks later, exactly as he anticipated the move took the scheduled amount of time.  The guys were great, clean, professional, friendly and strong.  Not once did we have anything break (ok - 2 light bulbs), no scratches on the walls or furnitures.  They really made this a great experience (they actually did all the packing and moving) and would love to use them in the near future.

    Fully recommended without any reservation!

    Best of Luck,

I thought I had a moving company I believed in here in NY.... but I was WRONG!

Excellent Quality Movers moved me 12 blocks to a 5-floor walk up for $300 after tip -- I'll never use another company in NY again (if I move again in NY).

    The good:
    * They are LICENSED
    * Hourly rate is cheaper if you can move before the end of the month
    * Were early & communicated all day with us before they got to the house
    * WAY CHEAPER than anyone else I got quotes from
    * They hustle... nothing's worse than watching your $$ slip away with lazy movers - these dudes worked hard & fast
    * Disassembling & reassembling does not cost extra, it just takes a little more time & time is $$

Things they don't tell you that you should know:
    * Mattress bag/cover will cost $15
    * Wardrobe boxes cost extra
    * If they get a parking ticket you have to pay it
    * Mandatory 1/2 hour travel fee tacked on to service

Here it is... if you have a handle on your move & you have no problem directing people (because you will have to) then these movers are AMAZING.

I moved a 1bdrm to a 5th floor walk up & it only took them 2 hours... after the 1/2 hour travel time & the shrink wrap it came out to $190, so I tipped each dude $40 (well over 20%) and called it a day.

Honestly, it doesn't get cheaper than that... believe me, an unlicensed company quoted me $500 before tip.

    THANK YOU EXCELLENT QUALITY MOVERS!!!

Great experience with this company.  The lead guy arrived early surveyed the apartment and went over the contract.  Once the rest of the guys arrived they went right to work.  I tried to have everything ready after reading Ro N's review and I pretty much did.

The guys were  professional and the lead guy Vessel(not sure of the spelling) was very pleasant.  I was concerned about moving a stove and fridge, but they knew what to do.  They were the best part of my move yesterday making a stressful day less so.

These movers were fantastic.  Jack was a delight to deal with, he responded to emails very quickly.  He also called the day before to confirm with me that everything was set. They came 40 minutes earlier than the scheduled time. And the day they came it was almost 100 degrees out, but they were still super quick loading and unloading all the boxes and large furniture we had. We paid exactly what was quoted, which was extremely cheap, other companies I've spoken to, prior to finding EQ movers, quoted me at triple the price. This is definitely the company to go with to ensure a smooth moving day.

I could not be happier with how my move went.

The guys turned up on time and managed to get everything out of my house without an issue and fast too, despite the difficult stairs at my apartment.

The rest of the move went without issue as well. The second pick up went quickly and so did the drop off to my new home. The guys were polite and respectful of all our stuff.

Best price too, ended up paying literally HALF of what flatrate had quoted me.

Will definitely be recommending to friends.

Sergei's 3 guys were awesome. They called when they found out that they'd be a little late (due to traffic) and worked so fast it was like they didn't know they were being paid by the hour. They retaped all the boxes and had dollies and had huge bins that made transferring a breeze. And their prices were lowest of all the places I called. Their expertise, attitude, and equipment was well worth the money.

The price was really good, much less than I expected and that included a generous tip. They moved us in 6 hours...it took double that to move us into our old place! Overall, they lived up their name!!

Just hired these guys to do my move.  I was worried that paying by the hour, the price could easily run up on me, and that I might regret not going with a flat rate mover.  However, these guys worked fast, were very nice, and finished right at the minimum 3 hour hire for the whole move.   In the end, it came to substantially less than the quotes I was getting from others, including flatrate.

Based on this experience, I have realized that many moving companies go by the amount of stuff you move, so if you add a desk, it will add up your charge, even if that only adds another 2 minutes to the whole move.  I think hourly is the way to go.  Of course, it helps to make it easy on them by having everything well-packed and ready to go.

    Hey,
To bring you up-to-date, I used EQM back in February to move my stuff a couple miles up the road to a new apartment (my previous Yelp review: 5 stars). Well, I ended-up moving-in to a less-than-desirable living situation. So I found a new apartment and called EQM once again to move my belongings. And I'm happy to report that they came through for me again. As a repeat customer, they also didn't charge me the $10 to wrap my mattress (yes, a VERY SMALL discount, but better than nothing). It took them about an hour to move my stuff. There were no problems. If/When I have to move again, I'm going to call EQM.

    Good luck with your move.

    -John

We had to move 3 bedrooms down the street from one elevator building to another. We booked the elevators from 9am to noon at both buildings. Had these guys not been super efficient, we would have never made it. Definitely strong, fast movers; they picked up our boxes like they were marshmallows. We moved all of our fragile items by ourselves beforehand, like the TV, dishes, and other breakables. Our furniture did gain a few nicks, but if you have really nice furniture you should wrap it all around beforehand. They will charge you extra for wrapping a mattress or TV, but before we could tell them to wrap the mattresses they were already on the truck haha. For the smaller boxes / items they have these giant boxes on dollys that they put everything in. I did have a lamp break in the process of being put in one of these boxes with a dozen other furniture pieces, but it was probably because it was cheap and about time anyway.

    Pros:
    Arrived 40 mins EARLY
    Fast and efficient

    Cons:
Need to supervise for fragile items / need to wrap fragile items yourself
Some wrapping / pads / large containers will run you extra

Also don't forget to tip! We were so flustered by the end that we totally forgot... SORRY GUYS! We owe you one. I'll def remember these guys for our next move.
